dmfreyhey everyone, got a graphics issue I am trying to work out03:46
dmfreyi am running 9.1003:46
dmfreyit is on a GeForce 8400 running vdpau-normal with the 190 nvidia driver03:47
dmfreyHD looks great, except it is letterboxed, not full screen03:48
dmfreySD aspect ratio appears correct, except it has about a 2 inch pillar box on each side, instead of the normal black sidebars03:49
dmfreyi have been all over the playback settings03:50
foxbuntudmfrey, thats just a setting in the frontend, I think in the playback settings03:50
dmfreyfoxbuntu: that's what I thought, I was messing with the auto fill and zooming, but the picture then looks distorted03:51
foxbuntudmfrey, I am using a very similar video card...03:53
dmfreyfoxbuntu: are you seeing the same types of issues?03:53
foxbuntudmfrey, no, my SD content has the normal black sidebars to compensate for the 4:3 on 16:9 screen03:54
foxbuntudmfrey, is that what you are seeing or am I missing something?03:54
dmfreyfoxbuntu: no, the sidebars are not normal...very small, only about 2-3 inches on either side03:55
dmfreythe tv is a 56 toshiba dlp03:55
dmfreyso those black bars are pretty tiny on that screen03:55
dmfreyfoxbuntu: btw...this was normal in 9.0403:56
foxbuntudmfrey, it can be smaller depending on the resolution you are recording at, or your playback resolution, or the TV, or the TV signal (cable/sat/OTA)03:56
foxbuntudmfrey, well, some huge changes happened between 9.04 -> 9.1003:57
foxbuntudmfrey, there are allot of factors...03:57
dmfreyit is the same for firewire recording or qam off of pchdtv 550003:57
foxbuntudmfrey, what resolution are you running at?03:58
foxbuntudmfrey, also what type of connection are you using to the TV?03:59
dmfreyfoxbuntu: 1080i/dvi03:59
foxbuntudmfrey, no the actual resolution on the myth system03:59
dmfreyfoxbuntu: it is offset to compensate for overscan03:59
dmfreyfoxbuntu: one sec, let me bring it up04:00
foxbuntudmfrey, is it str8 through DVI? or DVI -> HDMI?04:00
dmfreydvi -> hdmi04:00
foxbuntudmfrey, does the video look distorted with the smaller bars?04:02
dmfreyfoxbuntu: it is maybe stretched a little04:03
dmfreyfoxbuntu: one more thing...the menu looks appropriate on the screen, this only affect playback04:04
dmfreyfoxbuntu: i am looking at the general playback menu now04:05
dmfreypage 204:05
dmfreyvideo aspect override is off and zoom is auto detect (default off)04:05
foxbuntudmfrey, I would set zoom off04:06
foxbuntudmfrey, but thats not the issue04:06
foxbuntudmfrey, I think rather than a 16:9 resolution like 1920x1080, your system is running a 16:10 resolution, many TVs do support 16:1004:07
foxbuntu16:10 would be like 1920x120004:07
dmfreyfoxbuntu: let me check my xorg.log04:08
foxbuntudmfrey, alright04:08
dmfreyfoxbuntu: if that is the case, i am not sure why this card is now detecting it at 16:10, never did it with 9.04 and before04:09
foxbuntudmfrey, probably the new driver04:10
dmfreyit was the same with the 185 driver, i upgraded it 190 to see if it would fix the issue04:10
foxbuntudmfrey, you likely were using the 173 driver in 9.04 though04:11
dmfreyfoxbuntu: Virtual screen size determined to be 1920 x 108004:11
foxbuntudmfrey, hmm...well that answers that04:12
dmfreyfoxbuntu: i had to use the screen adjustment wizard to adjust for overscan for the menus04:13
foxbuntudmfrey, that could be part of it04:14
dmfreyfoxbuntu: i saw that the checkbox was enabled to use the new size for video playback04:14
dmfreyfoxbuntu: disabled it, but the problem perists04:14
foxbuntudmfrey, Im not sure, I just deal with the overscan on mine, although it is not too bad04:15
dmfreyfoxbuntu: did you enable the separate video modes for gui and tv playback?04:15
foxbuntudmfrey, no04:16
foxbuntudmfrey, did you?04:16
dmfreyno04:17
foxbuntudmfrey, you might try it04:17
dmfreyfoxbuntu: what about your button font size? I notice when a popup appears, the button face font size is too tiny to read04:18
dmfreyfoxbuntu: I think this is all related somehow04:18
* foxbuntu is seriously procrastinating his work...and is way behind on completing it04:18
foxbuntudmfrey, all the text on my system is readable04:19
foxbuntudmfrey, are you using the mythbuntu theme?04:19
dmfreyfoxbuntu: yes04:19
foxbuntudmfrey, system all up-to-date?04:19
dmfreylooks like there are a few updates out there that just came down in the last day...i usually keep it up to date all the time04:20
dmfreythis is a dist-upgrade04:20
dmfreyit is recording right now, so can't do the upgrade and reboot04:21
dmfreyfoxbuntu: thanks for your help, i am gonna turn in for the night04:30
foxbuntudmfrey, np04:30
Demerzelhello folks05:20

olejl1Every time I restart my computer the MythTV database settings are displayed. How can I avoid this? If I close the database setup and start Mythfrontend from Application->Multimedia->MythTV Frontend it is OK.16:57
olejl1I managed to solve it. I had created a new wired connections which for some reason didn't come up until after mythfrontend was started. When I deleted it and enabled the Auto again, it was working.17:11
plsanderHi, I've installed mythbuntu 9.10, and I am having problems getting capture from my PVR-350 card.18:25
plsanderIn 9.10 - which is the correct specification for a PVR-350 capture card -- V4L or IVTV?19:30
foxbuntuplsander, IVTV19:46
plsanderthanks -19:46
foxbuntuplsander, this will probably help you. http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/Hauppauge_PVR-350#Installation_guides19:47
plsanderfoxbuntu, I'm more worried about getting capture working... it was working on myth .20 (knoppmyth) but since I have changed to mythbuntu and myth .22 it does not capture - neither live nor recordings.19:51
plsanderthe doc talked about tv-out on pvr-35019:51
foxbuntuplsander, well how are you trying to capture?19:51
foxbuntu(s-vid / composite / RG6(coax) )19:52
plsanders-vid -- direct connect to cable box19:52
plsanderIR blaster controlling channel change19:52
foxbuntuplsander, how are you tuning the cable box?19:52
plsanderaccording to the logs, the channel change is completing ok.19:53
foxbuntuplsander, ok, did you setup the external channel changer command on the input connection?19:53
plsanderues19:53
plsanderyes19:53
foxbuntuplsander, have you tested the channel change command to verify it is actually working as expected?19:53
plsanderIt was earlier, and the cable box generates a valid signal requardless of the channel tuned to19:54
foxbuntuplsander, well I am more concerned that it is actually changing channels19:55
foxbuntuplsander, before going too far, lets stop back and have you explain in more detail exactly what you are doing and how its failing19:57
plsanderI'm not getting anything for live tv - just black screen then kicked back to the mythfrontend menu.  If capture was working, I would see something.19:57
plsandersame behavior for recorded programs - black screen for ~5 seconds, then recording ends19:58
plsanderI am using storage groups - have plenty (200G) free in the live tv directory19:59
foxbuntuplsander, post your logs with Mythbuntu Log Grabber, try watching live tv once more then post the logs20:03
foxbuntuplsander, the logs should provide information20:03
plsanderhttp://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/f337a584b -- started livetv around 13:5020:03
foxbuntuplsander, try this: cat /dev/video0 > test.mpg20:09
plsanderI get the default cable box channel when I play that mpg.20:10
foxbuntuplsander, ctrl + c to kill it20:10
plsanderso the card is working20:10
foxbuntuplsander, ok, so its a configuration thing then20:11
foxbuntuplsander, (at least thats the likely story)20:11
plsander:-D20:11
foxbuntuplsander, when yo say default channel, is it the Menu/On-Demand channel?20:11
plsanderIt's the "how to use your cable box channel"20:13
foxbuntuplsander, ah ha20:13
foxbuntuplsander, use the normal cable remote to get the box off that channel onto something else20:13
plsanderUsed the channel change program, since the remote is long vanished into some drawer - the change worked.20:16
foxbuntuok, so now you have some sort of tv20:16
plsandernow to get myth to work with it.20:18
foxbuntuplsander, run the frontend like this: mythfrontend -v all20:19
foxbuntuplsander, then try the watchtv20:19
plsanderok - have that output in a file20:21
foxbuntuplsander, post it20:21
plsanderis there a way to post a file to pastebin?20:22
foxbuntuplsander, little hint, cat <file> | pastebinit20:22
plsanderspiffy... http://pastebin.com/f54256f7820:23
EssobiMeh20:28
EssobiI can't get this stupid BT878 to work with on-card sound20:28
foxbuntuplsander, well this seems to expose part of the issue, you said you are using storage groups, are you using the default folder locations, or did you create your own?20:30
plsanderdefault - added locations to them20:31
foxbuntuplsander, what did you add?20:31
plsanderThat's probalby it - I added /mnt/mythstg/v000/ but the path is /mnt/mythstg/v000/video/ (and v001, v002, v003)20:32
plsanderbut mythtv has write access to both v000 and v000/video20:32
foxbuntuplsander, I would chown the folders to mythtv:mythtv20:33
plsanderthey already are.20:33
foxbuntuok20:33
plsanderonly /mnt is root:root20:34
foxbuntuplsander, only thing I can seem to find is the system times out where it should be generating the recording file, so to me it seems like a permissions issue or the way the storage groups are configured20:35
plsanderI'll switch it back to the /var/lib/ paths and see if that works20:35
foxbuntuplsander, that is ok, as long as the directory has eXecute rights for everyone20:35
foxbuntuplsander, ok...I have to get going, but if it still doesnt work someone else in here will likely be able to help you out20:36
EssobiAnyone using BT878s?20:36
plsanderessobi, I have a bt878, but I do not have it on my myth box20:39
Essobiplsander: Oh.. Did you ever get the audio working without a cable?20:39
plsanderessobi, my understanding is that there is not a AtoD converter on that card - that audio capture must be done with a sound card, hence the stubby audio cable20:40
Essobiplsander: Well that sucks.20:45
plsanderessobi, that's why I ended up with a PVR-350 :-D20:46
Essobimmm20:46
EssobiYea, If I'm reading the pinouts right.20:58
Essobithey never even hooked up to the AtoD part of the chip20:58
Essobithat's retarded20:58
Essobiit's on the chip20:58
EssobiBUT HEY20:58
EssobiLETS JU*ST IGNORE THAT20:58
Essobistupid b*stards20:58
plsanderfoxbuntu, found the problem... chmod g+s for my storage group dirs...21:05
