joensdoes a repository with a debug kernel of 2.6.31-16 (latest karmic) exist, or is it necessary to build it your self?00:41

kirklandnixternal: hey01:00
kirklandnixternal: yo, you bolted before i answered your question ;-)01:00
kirklandnixternal: figured it out?01:01
nixternalkirkland: yeah, I added 'gcal_agenda=1' to $HOME/.byobu/status01:02
kirklandnixternal: you're playing with the custom scripts?01:02
nixternalnow my next meeting shows up in my status :)01:02
nixternalkirkland: yes I am01:02
kirklandnixternal: building from source?01:02
nixternalno, running karmic package on this machine01:02
kirklandnixternal: hmm, oh, interesting01:03
kirklandnixternal: well, i have that feature coming in 2.40, actually01:03
kirklandnixternal: you'll be able to just put your own status scripts in ~/.byobu/bin01:03
nixternalya, I added it to /usr/lib/byobu, which I don't like with updates and what not, modified the common to add a backtick for it01:03
kirklandnixternal: name them NN_NAME01:03
nixternalooh, now that is the hotness!01:03
kirklandnixternal: where NN is the frequency in seconds to run01:03
kirklandnixternal: and NAME is whatever you want to call it01:04
kirklandnixternal: any executable script01:04
kirklandnixternal: will be there very soon ;-)01:04
nixternaldefinitely can't wait and will be following that one01:04
jmlhello01:04
nixternalI like my Google Calendar Fridge feed for all of the meetings, and then it shows up in the status...yummy :)01:05

jmlnixternal, that's about contacting the Launchpad developers01:08
jmlnixternal, I already know how to do that :)01:08

davmor2pitti: I came across a couple of issues yesterday jockey and fglrx didn't want to play and the other is in oem mode you lose the keyboard between setting up the end user and the end user gdm screen08:51

ubottuLaunchpad bug 494699 in jockey "Ati binary driver failed to install using jockey" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/49469908:53
davmor2pitti: no once I restart the keyborad was fine again08:53
superm1i dont think the driver in the archive yet supports 2.6.3208:54
davmor2pitti: I think it is because when oem end user setup runs it's on the oem users account, however the keyboard is then set backup for the end user before you get to gdm and that I think is the bit that is breaking08:55
pittiok, fglrx bug changed accordingly08:56
tjaaltonpitti: yes, evdev replaces -keyboard/mouse08:56
pittidavmor2: so you do oem-config-prepare, and then it stops working?08:56
pittitjaalton: should we just remove the package entirely perhaps?08:57
pittidavmor2: but after a reboot you get the setup screen just fine?08:57

tjaaltonand in the same boat08:58
davmor2pitti: No you run oem-config-prepare and the keyboard is working.  You setup the new user.  It then pops up a window that says configure user...keyboard...etc.  You are then presented with the new user gdm but no keyboard so you can't log in.  However after a reboot the keyboard then works fine.08:59

slangaseksmoser: have reviewed the publish-release commands now on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UEC/Images/Publishing, and proposed a slightly different syntax; I fear the syntax actually has to be different for the devel release vs. past releases, given the current directory structure used for publishing (differing from how it's laid out on cdimage)11:21

ttxcjwatson: if cdc_ether should be fixed anyway, let's go for that fix. If it looks specific, then I should shop an already-supported one14:17
pittijdstrand: I picked Russian back then because I still moderately understand it, and it uses a highly nondefault legacy encoding, and non-latin glyphs14:17
jdstrandpitti: has another failure: not ok 20 - pg_maintenance works as user postgres with appropriate directory permissions14:17
cjwatsonttx: nic-usb-modules currently includes: catc kaweth pegasus prism2_usb rt2500usb rt2570 rt73usb rtl8150 usbnet zd1201 zd1211rw. But we should just fix nic-usb-modules to include cdc_ether too.14:17
cjwatsonttx: could you file a bug on linux (or reassign, as appropriate)? it's a one-line fix14:17
jdstrandpitti: using russian is an excellent idea, I just missed the langpack :)14:17
ttxcjwatson: thanks (and agreed)14:17
jdstrandpitti: oh, that failure was on in 8.1014:18
cjwatsonttx: http://paste.ubuntu.com/338682/14:18
ttxbug filing in progress14:18
jdstrandpitti: (the pg_maintenance one)14:18
pittijdstrand: oh, hm, that code has gone entirely14:18
* jdstrand thought he typed it but realized he only thought it14:18
pittijdstrand: getting the intrepid version14:18
jdstrandpitti: well, it is 8.10-- I don't mind listing that as an expected failure. no biggie really14:19
pittijdstrand: it should give you a diff of expected vs. actual output, does it?14:19
jdstrandpitti: what this is all about is I have written a qa-regression-testing script that can be run in an automated fashion for the server team14:19
jdstrandpitti: it does, but I don't have it atm-- let me get it14:20
pittijdstrand: I remember that there was a bug that it tests "grp" vs. "own" in a particular order, but sometimes the order is reverse14:20
pittijdstrand: so it was really a test suite bug14:20
jdstrandpitti: I am pretty sure that is the issue14:20
pittiit's fixed now, since pg_maintenance went away completely14:20
* jdstrand will double check and get back to you though14:20
* jdstrand nods14:20
jdstrand9.04 and later don't have it14:21
pittijdstrand: cool, thanks for caring about this14:21
jdstrandpitti: lastly (and I have the error output), lucid has three failures14:21
* jdstrand goes to paste it14:21
jdstrandpitti: it's been long on my todo list, and I have pygresql update that I am going to toss into the qrt script anyway, so we all win :)14:22
ttxcjwatson: filed as https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/49506014:22
ubottuUbuntu bug 495060 in linux "nic-usb-modules should include cdc_ether" [Undecided,New]14:22
jdstrandpitti: http://paste.ubuntu.com/338683/14:24
cjwatsonttx: thanks, signed-off14:25
pittijdstrand: hm, it looks like you have existing clusters somewhere?14:25
pittijdstrand: hm, no14:25
pittijdstrand: let me run it here and see whether I can reproduce14:26
jdstrandpitti: this is in a schroot, and I did the following apt-get: http://paste.ubuntu.com/338685/14:26
jdstrand(I don't have postgresql running on the host, or in any other schroots)14:26
pittijdstrand: test suite running14:28
mdzttx, confirmed that when cdc_ether is loaded, the kvm device gets connected to eth1. the installer should be perfectly happy with this14:28
ttxmdz: great!14:29
mdzttx, I also pinged rtg on #-kernel and asked him to make sure the fix gets applied in lucid14:29
jdstrandpitti: lastly, and I'm not sure how important this is cause I can whitelist the failures in the qrt script, but Dapper's 8.1 has the following issues: http://paste.ubuntu.com/338688/14:30
pitticjwatson: oh, I know -- bug 473241 is private14:30
ubottuBug 473241 on http://launchpad.net/bugs/473241 is private14:30
jdstrandpitti: (the 'failed_ok.append' stuff is part of the qrt script14:30
pitticjwatson: that's why sru-report can't figure it out14:30
cjwatsonmdz: I missed the background; not that I'm arguing this should be fixed, but why is this of right-now importance? :)14:30
pitticjwatson: moving to -updates then14:30
cjwatsonpitti: ah, thank you14:30
apwcjwatson, the fix in bug #495060 which you have added a s-o-b were you the author there?14:30
ubottuLaunchpad bug 495060 in linux "nic-usb-modules should include cdc_ether" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/49506014:30
jdstrandpitti: are there any additional things I need to get dapper going?14:30
cjwatsonapw: yes14:30
apwthanks14:30
jdstrandpitti: or is Dapper known to fail some tests?14:31
pittijdstrand: 020_create_sql_remove.t just succeeded here, hm (current lucid alpha-2, install from yesterday)14:31
pittijdstrand: dapper's tests are a bit brittle14:31
pittijdstrand: but the first few should succeed14:31
pittijdstrand: that's strange, though, it should not fail that badly14:32
mdzpitti, argh, TB is getting spammed with SRU bug email now14:32
jdstrandpitti: I'll update the schroot (and add the langpack) and try lucid again14:33
jdstrandpitti: are you doing this in a chroot or vm?14:33
pittijdstrand: in my normal production system14:33
pittimdz: I disabled TB as a member (it's still the owner)14:34
mdzpitti, hopefully that will fix it14:34
pittimdz: it landed in the moderation queue?14:35
superm1slangasek, i think we're gonna have to skip it.  major issue right now with mysql not being able to be spawned in the chroot with no good solution14:36
pittijdstrand: oh, hang on14:36
slangaseksuperm1: ah; is that a blocker for alpha1 altogether for you?  It looked like the frontend install went ok?14:36
pittijdstrand: can it be that your chroot does not have a default locale set?14:36
pittijdstrand: it expects to have a default UTF-8 system locale14:37
mdzpitti, moderation queue?14:37
=== robbiew_ is now known as robbiew
pittimdz: oh, TB doesn't have the ML set as contact point? Ignore me then14:37
pittijdstrand: I ought to check that in t/001_packages.t14:37
jdstrandpitti: ah!14:38
superm1slangasek, yeah, it's a blocker14:38
jdstrandpitti: that should fix 020_create_sql_remove.t and 130_nonroot_admin.t, but would it also fix 090_multicluster.t?14:38
slangaseksuperm1: ok14:38
mdzpitti, no, it got emailed to me directly14:39
pittijdstrand: no, the 090 one is a bit of a mystery to me; it should try ports in order14:39
superm1slangasek, i'd say its okay to skip a1 for mythbuntu and we'll have something figured out by a214:39
jdstrandpitti: if you are going to update t/001_packages.t, can you also add the following: libpq-dev libpqxx-dev?14:39
pittijdstrand: btw, 050_encodings still fails in lucid, since the Russian translations were removed due to being too incomplete14:39
pittijdstrand: seems I need to use another language for the tests now :-(14:39
jdstrand:(14:40
jdstrandpitti: re libpq-dev libpqxx-dev I noticed they were needed for the pg_config tests14:40
pittijdstrand: I'll add a test for -server-dev, which implies libpq-dev14:40
pittijdstrand: but the tests don't need libpqxx14:40
pittiit's a totally separate project14:40
jdstrandpitti: hmm-- I installed libpq-dev only, and something failed until I installed libpqxx-dev14:41
pittithat'd be strange14:41
jdstrandwell, I can track it down14:41
jdstrandgive me a few minutes :)14:42
jdstrandpitti: ok, really lastly: and this is purely fyi, I noticed that 8.3 testsuite looks for /usr/lib/postgresql/8.3/bin/pg_config, but pg_config is in /usr/bin. Lucid had the some issue, but with /usr/lib/postgresql/8.4/bin/pg_config (though oddly, karmic didn't)14:44
jdstrandpitti: I just create a symlink in the qrt script to work around it, and it works fine that way14:44
jdstrands/some/same/14:44
pittibzr commit -m 't/001_packages.t: Check that the system default locale is an UTF-8 one.'14:46
pittijdstrand: ^14:46
pittijdstrand: I also added a check for -server-dev14:46
pittijdstrand: that's deliberate14:46
pittijdstrand: and which is why -server-dev is required14:46
mdzzsync is my new favourite thing14:46
pittijdstrand: client-side packages should use /usr/bin/pg_config (latest version)14:47
jdstrandpitti: the pg_config is deliberate?14:47
pittijdstrand: server-side extensions need the per-version pg_config in /usr/lib/14:47
jdstrandah, ok14:47
* jdstrand will adjust the scripts accordingly14:47

mdzion, yes, I agree it's nice to have as an option, but I'm not keen to see regressions like smoser has where the console is unusable15:38
ionIt’s a bug and it should be fixed. If one ‘fixes’ it by disabling KMS on servers, a desktop user will sooner or later have the same problem when trying to do something in a virtual console.15:39

jmarsdenJordiGH: I'm not sure there's enough interest in distro-specific app development issues, but you could try starting #ubuntu-application-development (or #ubuntu-app-dev) and see if others join it... I'd just ask in a C++ channel, where many people will be familiar with Boost, and explain anything that is truly Ubuntu-specific.16:39
JordiGHjmarsden: ##c++ is only about standard C++, not about how Boost is packaged in Ubuntu. :-/ Oh well, I guess we can start a new channel to talk about Ubuntu-specific matters more interesting than how to setup a network or video card.16:40
jmarsdenJordiGH: OK.  I've packaged software for Ubuntu that uses Boost with no issues, just Depends: on the relevant liboost package... seems to work for me, but maybe I was lucky.16:41
slangasekthe boost packaging isn't Ubuntu-specific, btw, it's inherited from Debian16:41

cwickertthanks jono17:22
jdstrandpitti: so I think I was on crack when I said libpqxx-dev was needed17:30
jdstrandpitti: the qrt script works without it in a fresh lucid schroot snapshot17:30
jdstrandpitti: so it is all working well now (though I need to double check the intrepid failure still)17:31
jdstrandpitti: big thanks for your help :)17:31
jdstrandpitti: on a totally unrelated note, I noticed that in http://piware.de/workitems/qa/lucid/report.html I am listed under soren's name for qa-lucid-automated-server-testing17:32
jdstrandoh, I see qa-lucid-automated-server-testing has '*' prepended to all the work items...17:33
pittijdstrand: right, that's misformatted17:34
jdstrandsoren: ^ that should probably be fixed so the reporting work's right17:34
james_wpitti: where's the code that dupes python tracebacks? I can't see it in lp:apport17:34
jdstrands/probably/needs to be/17:34
jdstrand:)17:35
pittijames_w: no, it's in the ubuntu branch (lp:~ubuntu-core-dev/ubuntu/lucid/apport/ubuntu)17:36
pittijames_w: hang on, I lie; bin/crash-digger is in trunk, too17:36
pittijames_w: def dupcheck_next()17:36

jdstrandsoren: I updated that one17:37
cjwatsonbdmurray: would ubuntu-patch-reviews be materially different from ubuntu-reviews?17:41
pittismoser: I have a question for you in https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-lucid-desktop-cloud, when you have a minute (see whiteboard)17:42
smoserpitti, ok17:43
smoserpitti, regarding nx server in main...17:44
smoserin karmic we pruned our -server images of non-main software17:44
persiacjwatson: I have opinions about semantic differences there, if you're looking for exposition.  If you're looking for a specific answer to a specific reference, I'll refrain.17:45
smoserbut rickspencer3 says that for -desktop, a nx server outside of main (even ppa) would be OK.17:45
rickspencer3yes17:45
pittismoser: so that would be an addon package for just this image? sounds fine17:45
rickspencer3these images are not official distros17:45
smoseri would suggest against nx server in main for lts17:45
smoserso then thats settled.17:46
bdmurraycjwatson: ubuntu-patch-reviews would be subscribed to bugs w/ patches and dholbach had concerns regarding the volume of mail and possible off-topicness of messages17:50
jdstrandpitti: fyi (last one!)-- finally got to the intrepid failure: http://paste.ubuntu.com/338813/. looks like the reverse order of "grp" and "own" like you said. I'll continue to ignore that failure17:51
pittijdstrand: right, seems fine to exfail that17:51
pittiwell, not really "exfail", it can very well succeed17:51
pitti"ignore" is a better one17:51
mjrif there're upstart people around, it seems that there's fun stuff like if /home is luks-encrypted, things stop as they should to prompt for passphrase, but at the same time some other component gets pissed that /home isn't properly mounted and prompts for root maintenance. Apparently the two compete for keypresses such that it's rather difficult to get it into a state where you can actually input the passphrase to make it happy. Whassup?17:51
jdstrandpitti: I ignore the failure. if it passes, it's still ok17:51
* jdstrand moves on to actually test pygresql now17:51

CarlFK1does "fix committed" mean there is a patch file included in the ubuntu packaging, or that the gtk devs fixed what lucid will build from?  https://bugs.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gtk+2.0/+bug/49173218:41

chrisccoulsonpecisk - please try disabling plugins and re-enabling them one-by-one20:45
chrisccoulsongnome-settings-daemon hasn't really changed yet in lucid, so it's likely to be some library it's using20:45
peciskchrisccoulson, which plugins exactly you mean?20:45
chrisccoulsonthe g-s-d plugins. it's basically based around a load of random plugins20:46

ScottKcjwatson: Is it intended that kubuntu-dev would have access to Kubuntu seeds?21:17
ScottKApparently they (he, there's only one who isn't also core-dev at the moment) doesnt.21:17
=== robbiew-afk is now known as robbiew
cjwatsonScottK: we probably ought to move them - although unfortunately that requires a Launchpad code change21:26
ScottKcjwatson: OK.  So I guess that qualifies as it's desirable, but not immediately possible.21:26
smosergeneral question... does anyone think it would be beneficial to use have ec2 root filesystems as ext4? currently they're ext3.  kees maybe you have a thought (per your adding ext4 to vmbuilder patch)21:30
cjwatsonScottK: a transition period will be desirable anyway, so we could have ~kubuntu-dev branches which somebody regularly re-pushes to ~ubuntu-core-dev21:30
cjwatsonbut yes, it's definitely intended that seed commit privileges match upload privileges, in general21:30
persiaIs a LP code change required for each separation of a team, as in a hardcoded definition per-seed?21:32
ScottKcjwatson: I'm starting to feel like there ought to be a project for archive reorg to file bugs against so things like this and package permission adjustments get tracked.21:32

persiaSo it's just a change to ${FLAVOUR}-meta/update.cfg ?21:34
cjwatsonthat and a bit of work by somebody in the ubuntu-archive team21:35
cjwatsonI'm on leave tomorrow, but if somebody in ~kubuntu-dev wants to coordinate with me on Monday, I'd be happy to sort it out21:35
keessmoser: it more closely matches all other Ubuntu installs -- I would recommend it.21:35
keessmoser: in theory, it's also faster.21:35
ScottKcjwatson: Thanks.21:35
cjwatsonScottK: I agree - I'll set that up on Monday, unless somebody wants to beat me to it21:35
RiddellScottK, cjwatson: do we know why ~kubuntu-dev can't upload kde4libs?21:36

cr3Keybuk: what I don't understand is if I run /etc/init.d/networking or ifdown eth0 even, then network-manager still seems to be able to manage the interface21:59
Keybukyes22:00
Keybukwhy do you expect otherwise?22:00
cr3Keybuk: I thought that if the interface was down, it couldn't be used anymore until it was up again22:01
Keybukno22:01
KeybukI think you're confusing yourself22:01
Keybukif NM is managing an interface, it'll bring it up and down whenever it likes22:02
Keybukif you bring it down (or up!) yourself22:02
KeybukNM will fiddle with it again later22:02
Keybukif ifup is managing an interface (ie. its listed in /etc/network/interfaces) then NM won't get involved22:02
cr3Keybuk: might there be a better way to determine who is managing an interface other than parsing /etc/network/interfaces?22:04
Keybukno22:04
cr3cool, I think I could get pretty far assuming a vanilla interfaces file generated automatically22:05
smoserrickspencer3, i started a -desktop build, the i386 vmbuilder portion finished successfully, we'll see if the amd64 and then publish do as well .  http://paste.ubuntu.com/338963/ has package list of i386-desktop "cloud edition"22:05
