[10:52] upgraded from 9.4 t0 9.10 now no sound [10:53] why [11:24] Hello, does anyone know who made the throbber for xubuntu's xsplash theme ? [11:26] AnAnt, MadsRH did [11:27] Mads Rosendahl [11:27] thanks ! [11:27] yup, that's him. [15:07] hey yall [15:08] welcome to the land of zoo bun two [15:08] I'm using the Lucid alpha right now [15:08] its zoo boon too lol [15:08] oh yes..forgot [15:09] but its ok to say things different i guess [15:09] i call gnome gnome, not guh-nome [15:09] sounds much better...like it came from deep in the rainforest [15:09] it does [15:10] rainforests are for the weak [15:12] oorah how do you like alpha [15:14] Balsaq, its pretty stable, no major problems [15:14] Balsaq, i like it better than karmic, it was a nightmare on my netbook lol [15:14] i didn't realize it was available yet [15:15] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupport/Machines/Netbooks just scroll down to msi u100 its nuts [15:16] cool, i put in favorites, i'll burn one later [15:16] for me they said that current alpha is almost same as karmic [15:16] the kernel is new [15:16] i burn em and put them in cd sleeves that i make [15:16] and give em away free [15:19] same theme and wallpaper yes [15:20] there's somethin weird i notice when i'm logged into pidgin or thunderbird that when i get a new email or instant message or friend comes online or offline [15:21] but nothing problematic [15:22] Balsaq, your nickname might offend some people [15:23] it is possible but i tell them the q is silent [15:23] Balsaq, oh i see funny haha [15:23] some have a vivid imagination [15:23] Balsaq, are there a lot of people that want the cd's? [15:24] well in my area most don't even know what it is, i do it to help the cause since my tech skill are still.....underway [15:24] me too haha [15:24] it is all i can do at this point to help out [15:25] i've been using Linux for years, but all i know is what i need to know. if i need to learn more i will but my knowledge so far suits everything i need it for [15:25] i don't know the full list of commands and directories and all that [15:25] so far 3 peole at work have told me their windows computers were running extremely slow, 2 were really messed up with virus, so i wiped em clean and installed buntu, they love it [15:25] they had windows [15:26] one of my favorite things about Linux and BSD distros is the updates. every app and the system at the same time instead of one app at a time [15:27] remember with windows when ya had to update stuff one app at a time? it took an evening lol [15:32] someone whacked me? [15:32] yet my name is still up there? [15:33] anyone know what just happened? [15:45] I wanted to put xubuntu on a old 533mhz machine that has CD disks not DVD. CD are 650MB but the .iso is 664MB so its too big to burn on a disc. Any ideas [15:49] phxheat: a cd has 700MB [15:49] phxheat: just allow overburning in your cd burning program [15:53] TheSheep your right 700MB, but when I read the size its less than that maybe 630, i feel cheated. Ill try other discs i think one will show up as 700. Ill try the overburn. thank you [21:40] hello, I installed xubuntu on an old celeron 600 Mhz box... and when I rebooted it says [21:41] the initrd is too big [21:41] when I try to load the kernel I mean [21:41] how much RAM? [21:42] 400 and something Mb [21:42] is too little? [21:43] i don't think it shouldn't [21:43] *should be too little [21:44] well those are 3 different modules, can this make problems? [21:45] i'm not good with hardware but that machine sound's old for xubuntu [21:46] crunchbang or lubuntu might be better [21:46] well previously was win xp on it, isn't it greedier than xubuntu? [21:58] well it runs from light CD well, so it should run even better from hdd I guess [21:58] besides, here they say it should http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=459872 [23:12] so can anybody help me? [23:15] Stylee, ? [23:17] when I try to boot the kernel it says initrd is too big [23:17] how to fix it? [23:18] from live CD it works ok [23:18] which xubuntu version? is it normal hardware? [23:18] 9.10 [23:18] normal as in? [23:18] well, not anything weird [23:18] no all normal [23:19] okay. i suppose you are trying to use the regular/default kernel? [23:19] it was a box used in administration office [23:19] yes [23:19] I use the kernel bundled in the live CD [23:19] should I change it? [23:19] no, i don't think so [23:19] configure it myself? [23:20] hmm [23:21] I would try with 9.4 but the installation take as much as gentoo installation on my regular box :) [23:21] so long :) [23:22] if possible I would like to fix this installation [23:22] Stylee, what does 'ls /boot/initrd* -l -h' say? [23:22] Stylee, (in terminal) [23:23] wait I should boot from live CD [23:23] uhm [23:24] can you log in with *any* kernel? [23:24] withtout the cd [23:24] well there is just the kernel from live CD, I did a fresh install [23:25] before was win XP on that box [23:25] so you did a fresh install but initrd is too big? [23:25] so it says [23:25] I even tried a reinstall, with same result [23:26] Stylee, have you read this: http://unintention.com/?id=68 ? [23:26] Stylee, i don't know if that would help but.. [23:26] I will try to read it now [23:28] will try this hope it helps [23:29] okay :) [23:31] xubuntu 64bit is awesome [23:32] balvonas, great to hear you like it [23:32] damn stable [23:32] ;] [23:32] even on my crapy Acer [23:32] heh [23:32] it is pretty solid [23:33] knome: it booted, thanks :) I was looking on google but with xubuntu keyword [23:33] Stylee, yeah, np. have fun and merry christmas :) [23:34] thanks, you too [23:34] will do :) [23:44] seems nice, hope my sister will get used to it quickly [23:52] Stylee, i'm sure she will. it's really easy to use. [23:56] well she is not really a tech type, and she is used to windows [23:57] though this machine is really slow [23:57] if she is open to learn a bit new and learn to some new habits, she will be allright.
