mnkytry it with out the drive and see if works07:46
mnkyit should. really you should have no issue. the only boot issues i have had was trying to install from alternate image07:47
n0lanwill it not overwrite me movie files07:47
n0lani'm gonna try the check disc for error option at the startup screen07:47

iKernelman this shizz is snappy as a croc09:00
iKernelOn Xubuntu, how do I add directories to the Places thing in the top menu?09:11
Sysiadd they to list in file manager09:11
iKernelah ha thanks Sysi09:13
iKernelI was trying to add the wingood directory, I call it wingood because it's windows 7 :)09:13
iKernelonce windows has native EXT4 support I will call the linux mount point linuxbetter :D09:14
Sysi7 may not suck anymore that much, but still viruses09:14
Sysiit has ext4 support? O.o09:14
Sysiby default?09:15
iKernelno09:15
iKerneli said "once"09:15
iKernelimplying that it has not happened yet but will09:15
Sysioh rihgt09:15
iKernelbut it probably won't :P09:15
Sysimy english isn't that good09:15
iKernelsprechen Sie Deutsch?09:15
Sysino, finnish, english, some swedish and little french :P09:16
iKernelyou should learn german09:16
TheSheepI've seen a clever hack that runs a small linux distro in a virtual environment, uses it to mount the partition and communicates with it as a network drive09:17
iKernelTheSheep, could you please rephrase that? you lost me after "it"09:17
iKernelsounds interesting though09:17
iKerneloh!09:18
iKernelI see09:18
TheSheepruns a virtual machine on windows, which runs linux, mounts the ext4 drive and makes it available to the windows through samba09:18
iKernelbut then it has to be run through the crap windows IP stack :P09:18
iKernelI didn't think virtual machines could access physical partitions on the host's drive09:18
TheSheepwindows ip stack i stolen from bsd anyways09:18
TheSheepas ip stacks of virtually all systems out there09:18
iKerneloh well in that case it isn't crap :P09:18
TheSheeplinux's is too09:19
iKerneli would have thought that the IP stack would be included in coreutils, which implies that it's from GNU09:19
TheSheepnope, bsd09:20
iKerneldon't tell me GNU stole their IP stack from bsd09:20
iKernelah k09:20
iKernelwhat, so plain GNU has no ip stack?09:20
iKernelooooh09:20
iKernelIP stack is in kernel09:20
iKernelGNU doesn't have a kernel xD09:20
TheSheephurd is still being developed09:21
TheSheepanyways, the BSD guys implemented the ip stack first and made it available for everyone for free09:21
TheSheepso all systems use that09:21
iKerneldon't really see the point in developing hurd any further09:21
TheSheepone could say that this is why Internet works at all09:21
iKernelwho would want to use plain GNU?09:21
TheSheep(I can't imagine how would Microsoft implement their own version of ip stack, but it makes me shudder)09:22
Tesssaafter doing a upgrade from xubuntu 9.4 to 9.10 the sound no longer works.i have reinstalled 9.411:14
Tesssaany help11:14
hatake_kakashiI'd try a clean install11:15
Tesssahave problems with that11:16
hatake_kakashisuch as?11:16
Tesssawell no matter how i download 9.10 and burn it at the lowest speed it will not bring the partion manger up11:17
hatake_kakashiyou do know there is an option to check the disks integrity at boot right? and also i would look into issues as to why the partition manager won't show up11:18
Tesssawhen i click forward it jumps from 3of6 to 4of 7 bypassing the partion manager11:18
Tesssadoes exactly the same with ubuntu11:18
Tesssayes11:19
Tesssa and it tells me ok11:19
hatake_kakashiand if you ignored the setting up of partition manager? assuming that it would install in a specific way?11:19
Tesssacant get beyond 4of7 keeps telling me need to partion11:20
hatake_kakashitried running the installer through the terminal?11:21
Tesssawhat i did with ubuntu installed 8.10 then upgraded to 9.4 then to 9.1011:21
Tesssadont know enough about linux to do command line11:22
hatake_kakashiI personally never liked upgrading.. its never done cleanly11:22
Tesssaclean with ubuntu but with xubuntu the sound goes11:22
Tesssaand i do prefer xubuntu11:23
hatake_kakashieven when I changed from 8.10 to 9.04 I did clean install, never had any issues11:23
hatake_kakashiwell you can always install xubuntu-desktop on your ubuntu setup :p11:23
Tesssaoh no problems with 9.4 just 9.1011:23
hatake_kakashijust telling you my experiences, and I'm not upgrading to 9.10, seems like the new fs is plagued with issues amongst other things11:24
Tesssawell have reinstalled 9.4 so might wait until 10.4 comes along11:25
Tesssayes a lot of help questions in ubuntu channel11:25
hatake_kakashihopefully the issues outlined in the release notes with 10.4 is not as worse as 9.1011:25
Tesssashould be all sorted out by then11:26
hatake_kakashionly time will tell11:26
Tesssayep11:26
hatake_kakashibut like I said, you can install xubuntu-desktop11:26
hatake_kakashithe sound issues could be various, anything from the driver to the sound server11:27
hatake_kakashimaybe its muted in alsamixer11:27
Tesssai do have ubunto 9.10 on the other partion but ut seems to be a little clunky to me11:27
Tesssabut the sound works ok with ubuntu11:27
Tesssai do prefer xubuntu11:28
hatake_kakashiand xubuntu is no different from ubuntu, its just the usage of different de/wm11:28
Tesssawell got to go thanks for the help and chat oh merry christmas11:29
hatake_kakashimerry christmas to you too11:30

crazygir_hiya, I'm trying to setup a new wacom tablet on 9.10.. I haven't really found any config help pertaining to 9.10 as it looks like 9.10 should just figure it all out. From what I can tell, it doesn't look like hal/the system is recognizing the tablet (or doens't have support built in). I have the wacom-tools and x11-input wacom pagackes installed but don't see the fdi configurations you would expect21:44
crazygir_ubuntu seems too busy, and I haven't been able to figure this out on the forums.. except someone posting just a few hours ago with the exact same issue21:45
crazygir_I believe this bamboo is slightly newer than the rest21:45
TheSheepcrazygir_: I have an old volito2 and had no problems since a couple of versions21:48
TheSheepcrazygir_: what does 'lsusb' shows?21:48

knomeTheSheep, at least my wacom works as a mouse.22:22
TheSheepknome: yeah, I know, but this is a new model22:31
knomeoh, right:)22:31
TheSheepknome: I was wondering if it's detected at all22:31
knomeit looks like if it's shown in lsusb22:31
TheSheepknome: there are several levels at which it has to be detected22:32
TheSheepknome: it may be detected as a usb device, as a pointing dvice and finally as a wacom22:32
knomeyeah22:33
crazygir_TheSheep: nope, doens't pick up any pen input22:49
TheSheepI know it sounds silly, but did you check the cable? did you try a different socket?22:51

Balsaqyou mean the mouse23:24
knomethe one in the same style as debian and arch23:24
Balsaqwe are just drwing and figure you guys may decide the rest or ask for other work23:24
Balsaqwe just do anything and hope it spurs other ideas23:24
knomeyeah. anything is welcome :)23:25
Balsaqor you can request a specific order of any kind23:25
knomewell, i think the biggest problem with these (which is a problem we can fix) is that they are either too stuffed or have too much space23:26
knomeand some of the artwork doesn't really relate with xubuntu in any way23:26
knomei'd like to have a better look on the suse cover, the skull cover and if you want, also the mouse cover and i can convert the artwork into svg23:27
