ToastI can't believe Amarok. I ask it to reorder the way it displays my albums and instead of just changing the screen, it's moving them all on my hard drive!00:04
ToxinPowethen you don't try the "kill" command, it's not safe for you... O:)00:06
ToastEven worse, it's left the album art behind. All the more strange as it recognises and displays it normally.00:08
QuintasanToast: just where did you set it?00:09
Quintasanit's even possible for Amarok to move files around instead of sorting? @_@00:09
ToastI used organise files. Really the clue is in the name I suppose, but it's late!00:09

dwidmanngimox: downgrading from 4.4beta2 to 4.3.4 won't be the most easy or sane thing to do. With your god-like connection it might be faster to re-install, then upgrade to the current karmic-updates and karmic-backports.00:20

dwidmannhttp://www.truecrypt.org/06:55
dwidmannWith it you can create an encrypted container ... this container will have a filesystem of its own, only accessible after you punch in your password of course06:58

Orion777you mean like embedded in the desktop?11:32
silas__Yeah11:32
tsimpsonyou can always run irssi in a terminal11:32
tsimpsonor add the web browser widget and load up webchat.freenode.net in it11:33

Peace-Orion777: mmm konversation is better11:35
Orion777why11:35
Peace-silas__: quassel is not good like konversation11:35
Peace-just try it11:36
Orion777peace, what do you think of xchat11:36
Peace-and then get your opinion11:36
silas__The only thing I'm interested in, is the ability to be embedded on the desktop11:36
* Sahkolihaa is using Quassel and doesn't see any issue with it since he can at least chat on it.11:36
Peace-xchat seems it has some stuff more than konversation but only if you have to manage some channel11:36
Peace-for me konversation is the best very confortable11:37
Peace-Sahkolihaa: try to ignore someone11:37
silas__OMG11:37
SahkolihaaI rarely use ignore.11:37
silas__irssi works perfect11:38

ve_hi is there a terminal command to display kde default applications. echo $USER && gnome-default-applications-properties12:03
benjamin__robinr: hm that could be a hint, I check this thanks12:04
paulsomebody__benjamin__: First, for most of the common activities there is "System Settings" thing. You need "Appearance" thing. There is a "Font" tab to be found.12:04
paulsomebody__benjamin__: There you could set DPI. And I would advise installing fonts from "ttf-droid" package for the best look.12:05

javier_Hi everybody. I've problems with sound in my kubuntu. It was changing all the time between HDA Nvidia (conexant analog) and HDA Nvidia (conexant digital), but now I managed for deleting digital one and I don't have sound most of the times. Someone's knows how can I deal with this?12:45

javier_yes, I've done such stuff. But, now it dissapeared the digital one and only have "pulseaudio" and "analog" and "analog #1"(which I believe is exactly the same as normal analog)12:47
javier_ghostcube: so, I've lost digital that is where it was switching when analog wasn't working, and now I dont have sound12:47

ghostcubewith this jackd and qjackctl and disabling the startup sound it gets detected as soundserver inside kde settings12:49

jasaHeh, just made a downport to old 8.04 ... need to start some project around, that can actually come somewhat troublesome.15:39
justwarmjason,is there another way execpt gparted?15:39
jasaActually the ideal would be to make some custom compiled things with old gcc and avoid apt-get mass of packages.15:39
jason_justwarm - well, not that Imaware of. Why would you want to use anything else? GParted is a way to manage, format, and create partitions. Its the easeist way to go, in my opinion.15:40
jasaOne main thing seems that they have already removed the old package servers completely15:40
jasaAlso no "adept" or similiar on kubuntu on 8.04, so what would you recommend to find around ?15:41
jasaSo, the main question from me would be that what graphical package managers are in the old version that would allow to make the OS even more clean to start nearly from scratch. -.-15:43
jason_sounds like a lot of work - is a fresh install not an option?15:44
jasajason_: it's a fresh install of older version and make certain that the base has been compiled with the older gcc.15:45

jason_thats wierd that youd have performance like that15:48
jason_not sure where to go with it from there man15:48

DrewdRoxjasa..,. that might be what happened. I installed window 7 about 2 months ago15:54
jasaDrewdRox: so it's only the new kubuntu and no boot screen at all ?15:54
DrewdRoxhad to use that to burn the image... that might be the main issues15:55
jasaDrewdRox: unless it made the session burn everything should be fine ...15:55
DrewdRoxjasa:  when I attempt to boot from the disk it doen't boot.  but my machine will boot form the cd drive with a different cd15:56
DrewdRoxthe disk I burned has about 8 dirs, and 6 files15:56
jasaDrewdRox: so is that now disk failure or cd failure ?15:56
jasaDrewdRox: also multi sessions might be some type of problems around ... but burning image normal way around shouldnt create those.15:57
DrewdRoxjasa: I am not sure.   it looks to me like I can't boot from the CD.  I am installing this on a new HD.  so when it doesn't boot form the CD the machine just sits there with no master boot record15:58

DrewdRoxI think I can try from USB as well?  what do you think?16:00
jasaDrewdRox: assuming it's a "sata" hard drive, what does "cfdisk /dev/sda1" show ? Does it show as it's bootable partition ... or where you have the boot things around.16:01
jasaDrewdRox: You could do it on usb too i'd assume ... but i would not recommend as too many writes and reads around renders it useless over the time.16:01
DrewdRoxjasa: just to install from... that is what I was thinking16:02
DrewdRoxcan I make a kubuntu bootable usb device that will install kubuntu?16:02
jasaDrewdRox: google could be only help on that, not sure if i read any forum guides around on that matter really.16:03
jasaWell what we know, we have a graphical package manager around after removing way too many useless programs and cleared menu list.16:10
DrewdRoxjasa  --> going to try this    https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Installation/FromUSBStick16:12
jasaDrewdRox: Good luck.16:16
jasaDrewdRox: i could even assume you just threw random link to check around, but no, i did not check it ... up to you.16:17

wind-riderhi22:56

dodgerNapoleon__B: np22:58
wind-riderit looks like xorg.conf is gone23:00
EagleScreensegz: are you using nvidia-185-kernel-source package?23:00
segzusing default restricted karmic package yes if i remember23:01

mofawind-rider: when you press a key that is not mapped, does dmesg provide any details?23:01

wind-ridermofa: i'm sorry, 191 for the mode button; 192 for the fifth hotkey and 193 for the settings key23:03
h4p0hi guys!23:04
wind-ridermofa: the first four are correctly mapped to XF86Launch1 - XF86Launch423:04
mofawind-rider: if xev recognizes it then all you have to do is assign the keycodes to a keysym23:04
wind-ridermofa: but i'd like to map the other ones so that i can use them in a qt program23:04
wind-ridermofa: that's right, but i'm wondering how to do that23:05
segzEagleScreen? :O23:05
grimreaperhi all23:05
mofawind-rider: create file ~/.Xmodmap23:05
wind-riderand if i would like to do it globally23:05
wind-rider?23:05
mofawind-rider: each line in the file should have the format "keycode TheKeyCode = TheKeySym"23:06
wind-ridermofa: i'd like to create a bug report with a patch so other kubuntu users won't have the same problem23:06
=== dodger is now known as dodger-afk
h4p0hi ! I've a problem with crypsetup23:07
EagleScreensegz: it is probably an error caused by your graphivs driver + ubuntu system configuration23:08
wind-ridermofa: but i can't find any configuration files etc, or are they hardcoded?23:08
EagleScreensegz: if ttys are important for you, try updating graphics driver or changing Linux distribution23:09
mofawind-rider: is what hardcoded?23:09
segzi wanted to update me gfx driver23:09
segzbut it insist that i dont have X running :P23:09
Napoleon__Bdodger: there is still no hardware pressent, how about removing alsa, is that an option?23:09
wind-ridermofa: i was wondering where the other key mappings are, so that i just could add the new ones there23:09
segzthats why i needed a tty23:09
wind-ridermofa: so that i could create a patch23:09
mofawind-rider: X automatically detects them23:09
mofawind-rider: but sometimes there are unusual keyboards, like you have23:10
=== grimreaper is now known as grimreaper_
wind-ridermofa: but why are the first four hotkeys correctly detected and the fifth not, and the settings and mode button23:10
=== grimreaper_ is now known as grimreaper__
grimreaper__io23:10
mofawind-rider: i dont know, that depends on the keyboard23:10
wind-ridermofa: ok, but i'd like to change that upstream23:10
wind-ridermofa: is that possible?23:12
EagleScreenor segz, the if you don't use X, you need tty's, sure23:12
mofawind-rider: you'll need to speak with the X11 developers about that23:12
wind-riderok, allright23:12
wind-ridermofa: thx for thinking along23:12
EagleScreensegz: have you at least, one tty, or any?23:12
segznothing23:13
segzonly X23:13
segzi blacklisted the nvidia module now23:13
mofawind-rider: when you have created the .Xmodmap file, logout and login again, and see if your keys work.23:13
segzdexconf'ed my X11 Xorg.conf23:13
segzstill nothing23:13
Napoleon__BI still have no hardware pressent for sound on my laptop, is reinstaling alsa an option??23:13

EagleScreensegz: is your computer a server?23:14
segzlaptop23:14
rizwani cant seem to find a way to enable the "Mobile Broadband" tab in kde network control panel23:14
mofawind-rider: im not sure exactly. if not, you'll need to call xmodmap /path/to/your/xmodmap/file each time you login23:14
EagleScreensegz: i think now i understand, you need tty's because you broken your X config23:14
segzX works fine23:14

segzEagleScreen, no the downloaded drivers from nvidia requires me to shutdown X23:15
segzthe install wont even continue otherwise23:16

dodgerwhat's it say?23:18
Napoleon__Bdodger: it can´t find "alsa"  I tried to type "alsamixer" instead but no luck..23:21
dodgerNapoleon__B: i don't think alsa itself is the problem - alsamixer finds your sound card, afterall23:21
dodgertry this23:21
dodgerNapoleon__B: in a terminal, type 'aplay' followed by the name of an audio file23:22
EagleScreensegz: that is stranger, do they still use xorg.conf23:22
segzhuh?23:23
dodgerNapoleon__B: really, any file will work, we're just trying to get *something* coming out of the speakers ;)23:23
segzi dont have a xorg.conf at the moment so23:23

mkrausyes ;)23:42
mkrausit allways worked :/23:42
e_t_mkraus: the Google translation of your error message is "the device knows no medium". I assume this means k3b doesn't know what to do with the disc. You might try reinstalling k3b, or try another burning program like Brasero.23:44

Napoleon__Bdodger should i be in a special folder perhaps?23:49
dodgerNapoleon__B: no, the ~/ means it'll look for the file in your home folder, which is where it should be23:50
Napoleon__Bdodger: allright I added a . and here is what I got back:  Skrivebord$ .cat ~/.asoundrc23:51
Napoleon__BNo command '.cat' found, but there are 18 similar ones23:51
Napoleon__B.cat: command not found23:51
dodgerNapoleon__B: not in front of the 'cat', but in front of the 'asoundrc'23:51
dodgerok, i can see you had that23:52
dodgerhow about 'cat /etc/asound.conf' ?23:53
dodgerwithout . in front this time23:53
Napoleon__Bdodger: I wrote:  cat ~/.asoundrc   and I get back:  cat: /home/z/.asoundrc: No such file or directory23:54
Napoleon__Bdodger: cat: /etc/asound.conf: No such file or directory23:56
dodgerNapoleon__B: ok, so it should just choose the first card/device it finds, which is your internal sound card's analog output23:56
dodgerNapoleon__B: i don't know what's wrong - from all i can see, the hardware should work - but as i said, i'm not necessarily an expert on alsa and audio hardware23:58
dodgerNapoleon__B: does it work when you boot from the 9.10 live cd?23:58
