Q-FUNKWRT http://bugzilla.kernel.org/show_bug.cgi?id=13941 could someone help?00:37
ubot3`bugzilla.kernel.org bug 13941 in i386 "x86 Geode issue" [Normal,Reopened] 00:37
Q-FUNKwould "apt-get --compile source linux-image-2.6.32-9-generic" be enough to achieve this?00:39
mattidhillon-v10: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XwEVzOegqzw :)01:02
dhillon-v10matti, hey there :D one suggestion, we shouldn't be talking about youtube in an official channel, do /query dhillon-v10 and then we can talk ;)01:04
mattiOh I am sorry ;]01:04
dhillon-v10matti, nah its okay, that's a funny video01:04
mattiI just had a moment of joy and fun with British sense of humour.01:04
dhillon-v10matti, :) nice01:05

Q-FUNKhttp://git.kernel.org/tip/17a2a9b57a9a7d2fd8f97df951b5e63e0bd56ef501:24
Q-FUNKcould this be applied to lucid and karmic kernels?01:24
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, it could, but I am guessing you may have to compile a custom kernel for doing so02:04
Q-FUNKdhillon-v10: why?02:04
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, don't know :D02:04
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, you don't want to break anything in the kernel that you are currently using02:04
Q-FUNKthe current kernel is already broken as it is, so...02:05
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, alright then go ahead and see what happens 02:05
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, it shouldn't be causing a lot of trouble since its only modifying gcc flags02:05
Q-FUNKprecisely why I'd like this applied and pushed02:06
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, alright so you should test it on your kernel, then test if for like 2 days and then open a bug report stating the problem, then you can ask for that patch to be applied in lucid :D02:07
Q-FUNKbug report already open02:07
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, did you test it on your kernel02:07

ubot3`Malone bug 396286 in linux "[Geode LX] [OLPC] 2.6.31-generic: kernel panic near the end of initramfs" [High,In progress] 02:08
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, seems like a bunch of people are working on it, since there are a *lot* of kernel bugs that the devs have to go through and fix, this one will soon be fixed02:09
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, its been fixed upstream so it would be easy here, it just needs a bit of time, okay02:10
Q-FUNKthere's no telling whether it's been fixed upstream, actually.  however, the suggested fix is simple enough that it would be worth trying.02:13
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, alright sorry I wasn't able to help much :)02:18
Q-FUNKand I'd trust Peter Anvin on his assumption :)02:18
dhillon-v10Q-FUNK, yah he's one of the people you can trush :)02:18
Q-FUNKcould anyone explain to me how the kernel build system works on Ubuntu?  I tried adding an upstream patch, which worked, then "dch -i" but then doing "debuild -S -sa"  seems to squash my changelog entry, which also makes debsign fail.10:16
AceLan_Q-FUNK: dch -i -c debian.master/changelog11:38
Q-FUNKAceLan_: thanks.  just tried that.  however, "debuild -S -sa" produces a *.changes file without the new version and it insists upon getting the files signed by ubuntu kernel maintainers.11:41
