=== Hellow_ is now known as Hellow === Hellow_ is now known as Hellow [01:31] quit [01:31] bye === astechgeek is now known as techgeek [02:43] dogatemycomputer: you can join this now: https://edge.launchpad.net/~bugsquad [02:44] micahg: reading.. [02:46] micahg: I followed all the steps. I guess in order to join I just need to contact my mentor? [02:47] dogatemycomputer: that team, there are no restrictions [02:48] micahg: so just email the mailing list and request to join? [02:48] dogatemycomputer: that's for bug control [02:49] dogatemycomputer: the link I gave you was for bugsquad [02:49] which basically is you're helping out with bugs [02:49] no strings attached [02:49] there's another group for mentoring [02:49] and another group for bugcontrol [02:50] micahg: okay.. joined.. [02:50] micahg: "You have successfully joined Ubuntu BugSquad." [02:51] dogatemycomputer: great, that flags you as bugsquad for people with the greasemonkey extension [02:51] micahg: now I can officially screw up bug reports :-) [02:52] micahg: hehehehe.. thank you for your help! sorry for screwing up that bug report and thanks for getting it fixed. [02:52] dogatemycomputer: no, now we know that you're trying to triage and we know you want help :) [02:53] micahg: I did have one question that I cannot find anywhere in the documentation... How do you tell the difference between a bug and a support request? [02:53] dogatemycomputer: no easy way [02:54] dogatemycomputer: bug is program is doing something it shouldn't/needs to do something (wishlist) [02:54] dogatemycomputer: support request is how to use this feature in a program [02:54] micahg: I was hoping that particular topic was covered somewhere. I was trying to help someone in a bug report a while back (can't remember where) and someone came along and said something not-so-nice about clogging up his mailing list with a support question but it was not clear to me that it was actually a support question or trying to isolate a possible bug. [02:55] micahg: well.. I guess that is something I will learn as I go.. [02:56] micahg: okay.. the wife is screaming about the cat got out.. i have to go. thank you for all your help! [02:56] dogatemycomputer: np, come back with any questions any time [03:59] hi all. i'm working on some cleanups for , and i have a question about the package for sound bugs. does anyone know what the right procedure is? the wiki is confusing about whether it should be linux or alsa-base [04:00] cyan-spam: hmm [04:01] cyan-spam: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingSoundProblems [04:02] micahg: yeah, skimmed that too. at the top it says linux but later it says alsa-base! [04:02] maybe just follow "In other words, if in doubt, the bug should be filed against linux and have the ubuntu-audio team subscribed to the bug report." as a default case? [04:02] cyan-spam: alsa-base collects the proper info about the sound system, but the bug should be assigned to linux [04:03] micahg: hmm. so what does that mean :) [04:04] cyan-spam: top of that page says where to assign [04:04] maybe we need an audio symptom like storage [04:04] micahg: if info is needed to collect, apport-collect -p alsa-base BUGNUMBER [04:04] cyan-spam: maybe [04:06] micahg: so you think alsa-base? i think i agree, though that goes against the words in bold italic [04:06] cyan-spam: no, linux [04:06] micahg: oh, ok [04:07] cyan-spam: if info is needed, use alsa-base for collect [04:07] but the package is linux unless the conditions at the top of the wiki page are met [04:07] micahg: ah. so a reporter should use ubuntu-bug alsa-base, but then manually assign to linux? [04:09] cyan-spam: a reporter shouldn't move it, the triager should based on the top of the wiki pafe [04:09] *page [04:10] micahg: oh this is confusing. :) the wiki page is used both for reporting and triaging so i'm trying to bias it a bit towards reporters (since probably triagers will need less hand-holding) [04:10] and don't worry, i'll send a draft on the mailing list before i submit the changes [04:12] cyan-spam: that's probably why there's no header for Notes for triagers [04:12] micahg: sorry? [04:12] the user should just use ubuntu-bug alsa-base and wait for someone to handle it [04:13] micahg: ok, i'm down with that. thank you! [04:14] cyan-spam: np [05:01] ok. i have sent my draft out on the mailing list. if any of you can check it out, i would really appreciate it. :) [05:05] hmm [05:05] reminds me [05:05] I should edit the Firefox section :) [05:05] hehe [05:06] fixed [05:11] alright i'm out for the night. see ya'll. Since upgrating to 9.04 AND then later 9.10 ubuntu grub and ubuntu do not seem to "see" my windows hard disk (it shows as empty) [10:04] I was able to tweak a bit with the 9.04 grub and make it load at least (but it was still not visible once ubuntu was loaded) 9.10 seems to run on a different grub setup and...
