Gumbyhi all.  can anyone tell me how I can disable the popup notifications in mythbuntu? I dont want there to be anything popping up telling me about network info, availalable updates, restricted drivers etc01:09
mrguitarI've got a bad HDHR issue. Can anyone help?01:10
mrguitarMy log is getting filled 24/7 w/ this: 2010-01-03 19:10:27.673 HDHRSH(101170CE-1): RunTS(): data_length = 6580 remainder = 18801:10

mazzomazmy rc is working fine, but only when i start lirc with "lircd --driver=dev/input --device=/dev/input/event6"02:01
mazzomazhow i can configure lirc to start automaticaly with those parameters at every reboot ?02:02
mazda01how do i configure Gnome CD Master to see my DVD writers so I can copy an audio cd?02:08
DGMurdockIIIhi02:13
mazda01anyone have a suggestion for copying an audio cd?02:14
DGMurdockIIIi dont know how to word this but the way i get sound from my computer is i use a ati all in wonder HD that has a hdmi port on it and i plug hdmi cable in to that then it gose in to the lcd tv dose mythbuntu02:14
DGMurdockIIIsupport getting sound as well as video02:14
DGMurdockIIIfrom the card using hdmi02:15
mazda01ne1 use gnome cd master? what group do i need to add my user to so that I can see the devices within that program? because I can see the devices if I run it as root. gksudo gcdmaster02:27
rhpot1991mazda01: check out k3b02:29
mazda01rhpot1991, don't want all those KDE libs, thanks though. That's not a solution to my question. I'll keep googling02:30
rhpot1991mazda01: brasero is the default gnome burning app anymore, you can look at that as well02:32
mazda01rhpot1991, don't use brasero enough. didn't even realize that it had a copy audio cd feature in it. thanks02:32
mazda01ok, brasero always errors out on me. why can't gnome just include a burning program that works.03:06
mazda01wheather trying a dvd movie or copying an audio cd. it fails03:08
ddempsey3I just want to give an update on re-creating the diskless tab for control-centre, incase others are working on it. I ran into a bug filed against dbus that upgrades fail if you are running in a chroot.04:33
ddempsey3https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/dbus/+bug/44110004:33
mrandddempsey3: glad to hear you're working on it.  I've not heard lately that anyone else is. superm1 can hopefully confirm that he hasn't heard of anyone else either.04:44
ddempsey3I have creation/deletion of the diskless image working. But because of the bug, when the mcc launches from the chroot, nothing happens.05:00
MononaWhat should I set the address to for my primary backend?  I will have an Ubuntu laptop & desktop and a Macbook on the network.  Can I dual boot from a regular Ubuntu desktop into Mythbuntu?05:10
MononaSorry, I mean IP address.  There's a Local Backend and Master Backend.  Right now, they're both set at 127.0.0.1.  Does it matter what I change them to?05:11
superm1ddempsey3, ooh that's fun05:27
Gumbyhi all, I am trying to figure out what I have very loud noises (I cant quite describe the noises) when using hdmi passthrough via spdif.  It only seems to happen when X is running and the audio isnt being used.05:28
superm1i've seen similar behaviors with chroots under a different context05:28
superm1ddempsey3, could you push what you've got so far into a merge request?  we can at least merge portions of it in to get more eyes on it hopefully05:29
superm1but i'm curious what particular packages are failing to upgrade?05:29
superm1most diskless chroots will be frontends, so hopefully wont need many services running05:29
MistStlkrif I may interrupt, how exactly does a diskless front end work ?  or, rather, how SHOULD it work if it were working?05:30
ddempsey3The real issue is trying to upgrade packages while in the chroot.  dbus does not work properly in the chroot env05:31
ddempsey3it communicates to the dbus out side the chroot.05:32
ddempsey3I can push what I have, but need help with that.  I have never done a merge request.05:33
superm1sure no problems05:37
superm1so i'm assuming you are working off a bzr checkout right now right?05:37
superm1if not, then grab the branch mythbuntu-common as detailed in http://mythbuntu.org/cheatsheet05:37
superm1MistStlkr, it would boot up via a combination of TFTP/NFS05:37
ddempsey3Yes I am working off of bzr checkout05:38
superm1MistStlkr, log you into gdm, and start mythfrontend05:38
superm1ddempsey3, okay then make sure that your username is set right (eg bzr whoami, also detailed on the cheatsheet)05:38
superm1ddempsey3, and then "bzr add FILE" for any files that weren't part of the tree05:38
superm1and type bzr commit05:38
ddempsey3superm1, sounds easy enough.  Is it reviewed after the commit?05:39
superm1ddempsey3, well that just commits it locally05:40
superm1ddempsey3, once you get that far, i'll walk you along the push and merge request05:40
superm1and anything that i walk you through that's missing on the cheatsheet i'll add there05:40
superm1the idea is supposed to be to have the whole process documented so someone can read that thing and go05:41
MistStlkrsuperm1, ah.. interesting idea!  I'll read up on that.  might make for a cool "network appliance" for the bedroom... I was thinking of finding an older laptop and hang it on the wall behind a flatscreen monitor to watch in bed....05:41
ddempsey3superm1, thanks again.  I will try later this week after reading the cheatsheet.05:42
superm1MistStlkr, well currently (last 2 releases or so), it's quite difficult to set up05:42
superm1the gui has been broke05:42
superm1which ddempsey3 is trying to help fix :)05:42
ddempsey3we are close :)05:42
Gumbyhi all.  I am using mythbuntu 9.10 64bit and am using spdif/hdmi passthrough. when I log into xfce I get horrible noises via the speakers until I play something that uses the sound system.  Once I stop playing something, it reverts back to the horrid noises.  Has anyone experienced this?05:43
MistStlkrsuperm1: so I gathered.  but it sounds like a great idea.  ddempsey:  get to work!  *cracks the whip*  LOL   Seriously though, that sounds like a heck of a project!  good luck, and enjoy!05:43
superm1MistStlkr, yeah when it was working a few releases ago it was quite awesome05:43
superm1i had my primary frontend set up with it05:43
superm1and it allows someone to bring a laptop over to your place, hook up to a cat5 and go with a frontend when they're staying with you, which i think is all sorts of cool05:44
MistStlkrsuperm1:  you would still need some small hard drive though, wouldn't you??  or are you setting the BIOS to boot entirely off a network drive somehow??05:44
superm1MistStlkr, nope, nothing.  you just choose network boot from the BIOS menu05:45
superm1or if they're PC doesn't support that, you can have a small flash drive that contains the kernel and initrd05:45
MistStlkrsup[erm1:  or is it diskless in that the front end is not on the local disk, essentiually equivalent to remoting in to a front end?05:45
superm1*their05:45
MistStlkrsuperm1:  sweet!05:45
superm1it's all stored on the server, but the code is executed on the client05:45
superm1via an NFS root05:45
MistStlkrnever played with an NFS root.. that sounds pretty damned cool.05:46
superm1when it's all working, it should literally be a few clicks on MCC, wait about an hour for the chroot to build, and you're able to network boot other PCs05:46
MistStlkrwithout that, what would be the min hard drive for the frontend?05:47
MistStlkrthe "wait an hour" thing is a one-time wait, right?  not per-client, surely?05:48
superm1one time wait, right05:53
superm1it's just the time to fetch the packages and build the chroot for the first time05:53
superm12gb otherwise for a frontend only system absolute minimum05:54
superm1but you're going to run into problems with theme caching possibly and updates05:54
MistStlkrright.  I remember a while back I got an ubuntu distro booting off of a USB key... maybe see if I can pick up an 8GB or a 16GB one and work on getting that running again for the front end05:56
superm1yeah that's definitely doable05:56
MistStlkrwouldn't be "diskless" but it would be awfully close LOL05:56
MistStlkrhm.. wonder if someone makes an adapter that has a USB input and outputs to a laptop hard drive connector... fool the laptop into using a thumb drive as an internal hard drive...  thanks for the chat and the view of what is to come!  I'm off to look intot hat :-P06:05
superm1np, yup, have fun06:07
MistStlkroh, one other thing before I head out.  I was thinking of trying to configure lirc to turn on the screensaver when I hit the power button my my remote.   have you heard of that being done?  can't imagine it being particularly difficult...06:08
superm1MistStlkr, sure bind it using irxevent06:16
superm1to a gnome-screensaver-command invokation06:17
bobobobwhat was that lirc program you run to see what codes are being sent by remote....codes were just echoed07:49
bobobobirw..thanks07:54
jac1dGood evneing all, is anyone here using an IR Blaster with a Motorola VIP 1200 stb or a Uverse or Aliant, Telus or MTS IP set top box?08:11
mrguitarI installed Mythbuntu 9.10 on Saturday as a frontend and I'm loving it. ....accept I'm getting TERRIBLE flash performance. Hulu desktop is almost worthless right now. Has anyone got flash working well?20:07
superm1mrguitar, you can try turning down the resolution before you launch it20:09
superm1mrguitar, but unfortunately flash doesn't use hardware acceleration, so there's not much else you can do20:10
mrguitarhmmm. My last OS was Jaunty & Fedora 8 w/ an Nvidia 620020:14
mrguitarI upgraded to a 9500 & karmic and NOW it sucks20:14
mrguitarit used to be good enough20:14
mrguitarthis could cripple my plans to launch boxee from the myth menu20:15
iamlindorodid you go from 32 to 64 bit?20:15
iamlindoroflash plugin on 64 bit is alpha-status (and quality)20:16
* tgm4883 disagrees, 64 > 32 so it must be better20:17
iamlindorotwice as good, even?20:17
tgm4883of course20:17
mrguitar32 bit the whole way20:17
iamlindoroAh well, flash sucks20:17
mrguitaralthough I'd like to run 64 on this box, I kept 32 because of boxee20:17
iamlindoroSays the guy writing the new plugin heavily dependent on flash20:18
mrguitar64 > 32 HA!20:18
mrguitarI wrote a lame script to launch hulu desktop @ 1024x768 w/ xrandr but performance did not improve. :(20:20
tgm4883mrguitar, which nvidia driver?20:26
mrguitar185 I think20:29
rhpot1991flash sucks, the end :)20:29
mrguitarI agree, but it should be usable20:30
mrguitar185.18.3620:30
rhpot1991I tried hulu desktop on my amd x2 and it was terrible20:30
tgm4883i'm still waiting for vdpau flash in linux20:38
tgm4883until then, it's 50/5020:38
tgm4883not to mention some hulu shows work better than others20:38
mrguitardid anyone else notice a depreciation moving from jaunty? (this might also be the new card or newer nvidia driver)20:39
mrguitarI guess I'll try the 10.1 beta 2 version of flash tonight - but I'm not optimistic.20:46
rhpot1991tgm4883: I think they claim to be  supporting gpu offloading in the next beta, but I read somewhere that they only support "Industry standards" and said that VDPAU wasn't a standard or some garbage like that20:47
rhpot1991translation: not enough people use that for us to care about20:47
mrguitargot to run - thanks for the thoughts everyone. I'll try somethings when I get home and report back tomorrow. cheers.20:54
tgm4883rhpot1991, well yea, VDPAU isn't an industry standard, but IIRC, there is a standard that uses that (and AMD's version as well)20:55
Molch_hi i m using mythtv the first time. i just installed it from the ubuntu 9.10 repos and i m at the channel scanning point now. i m using dvb-s and created a channels.conf with w-scan. when i try to import it i get a error msg : "failed to parse '%1'". i know the vdr confs wont work but the w-scan should...21:53
