Planetaryjwill: well I am collecting info to use on it later, it is not at this location. also what do I do after compiz purge? sudo halt  then boot back up?00:00
DaughainOK, so I move fast......00:00
jedixyou in KDE?00:00
DaughainMe?? No. never got a KDE option.00:00
jwillPlanetary: Oh, I guess.00:00
jwillDaughain: What were the options?00:00
Planetaryjwill: thanks for your help!00:01
DaughainMy acct and the 'other' default.00:01
jedixokay, hold on00:01
jwillDaughain: http://www.gnome.org/~chrisime/random/pix/gdm-Screenshot.png00:01
jwillDaughain: See the "Session" menu?  You need to click that.  There should be entries like "Gnome," "KDE," "Failsafe...," etc00:02
jwillDaughain: Gnome will be selected.  You need to select KDE, then login.00:02
jedixDaughain: run "dpkg-reconfigre kdm" and chose kdm as your default display manager00:02
jwilljedix:  You don't need KDM00:02
jwilljedix: He just didn't find the session menu00:02
DaughainI dont get any options like that.00:03
DaughainLemme log out again and see spomrthing.00:03

jwillHmm, I don't see a session menu: http://i37.tinypic.com/wraxxl.jpg00:04
jedixman, changing to kdm will fix this00:04
jwillYeah00:04

jedixif not, he's going to be pissed00:05

jedixhaha00:11
DaughainOk, found kde......And not hapy with it so far...00:12
jwillDaughain: If there's something you don't like, chances are you can change it so you do.00:13
jwillDaughain: KDE is awesome like that.00:13
jwilljedix: He's back.00:13
DaughainI sure as hell hope so, since it doesnt wanna log into my wireless network.00:13
DaughainI had to plug this brat back in to log on.00:13
jwillWell, you would have to set it up again, since it doesn't share settings with the GNOME network manager00:14
DaughainAsks for the damn password three times.00:14
DaughainNow, how do I get it to dosplay my temp settings?00:15
jwillDaughain: There's a plasmoid for that00:15
Daughain.........A     WHAT?!!?!?00:15
jwillDaughain: Trust me, thay're made of awesome.00:15
* Daughain chuckles...00:15
jwillDaughain: Right click on desktop, unlock00:16
DaughainA plasmoid is something made up of plasma........That concept on my computer just worries me, considering the temps involved in plasma.00:16
jwillDaughain: select "add widget"00:16
DaughainOk, there.00:16
jwillDaughain: They're just KDE4 applets, like on your panel in gnome00:16
jwillDaughain: Except they can be on your desktop as well00:16
jwillDaughain: Type "temp" or something in the search, or scroll down to find it00:17
jwillDaughain: There's one included in the kubuntu-desktop packages, or you can get a different one from kde-look.org00:18
jwillDaughain: ...which you can access from the "add widget" window00:18
DaughainOK, so how do I get these installed and finctioning??00:18
DaughainI highlight the thing, and click on add...Nothing happens.00:19
jwillDaughain: Just drag it onto the desktop00:19
DaughainAh...Tooo simple for me,. I see. =)00:19
Daughainbrb00:19
jwillDaughain: This is my desktop: http://imagebin.ca/view/dq1CCQq2.html00:19
jwillDaughain: Lot of cool plasmoids and stuff around00:19
jedixmy thinkpad circe 2002 isn't up to running many plasmoids00:21
DaughainOk, I dont want this crap all over my desktop....One of thre things I liked about gnome was al this was on a toolbar.....Can these things be relocaTED TO ATOOLBAR?00:21
Daughain Sorry for the caps.00:21

DaughainThanks Fanfare....Think I need to tinker some more here... =)00:22
ed___can anybody help me with a compiling-related issue?00:22
jwillDaughain: Yeah, if you want a traditional desktop, right click on desktop, select "Desktop settings"00:23
Fanfareed___: ask!00:23
jwillDaughain:  and change "desktop activity type" from "desktop" to "folder view"00:23
Daughainjwill......Dunno about traditional.....I just find some things about the gnome environ useful...00:23
jwillDaughain: I mean icons from your desktop folder on your desktop, rather than plasmoids00:24
DaughainUmmmm........I'll get back to you on that, jwill, I neeed to gfet oriented first I think. =)00:24
DaughainAnd, since this laptop has an overheat issue, I need to get my temp setings working first.=)00:24
Daughainbrb00:24
DaughainTrying to find a temp widget that shows digital, not analog.00:28
Daughainjwill  which weather widget is that you use?00:30
DaughainSay that ten times fast.....00:30
jwillDaughain: Weather Forecast, included in kubuntu00:31
DaughainHow do you get the clock to display 24 hr format?00:32
chalcedonyjwill, how do you set that up?00:34
FanfareDaughain: in systemsettings its part of your localisation...00:36

=== jon is now known as Guest36447
=== Guest36447 is now known as jonftle
jonftleevening all, can anybody help me out with some PulseAudio issues under Kubuntu 9.10? My audio doesn't work reliably. I installed PulseAudio Manager, and found out that it doesn't see any of my hardware devices. Any ideas?00:40
=== Tabmow is now known as evilTabmow
jwilljonftle: Doesn't KDE use phonon in place of pulseaudio?00:44
DaughainNow to find where system settings went....00:45
jwilljonftle: I was under the impression that having pulseaudio installed in KDE was a very bad thing00:45
jonftlejwill: I really don't know one way or the other, but under my System Settings > Multimedia, I show a PulseAudio device that doesn't work00:46
jonftlejwill: I also show an HDA Intel device that doesn't work either00:46
jonftlejwill: Funny thing is, I get system startup shutdown noises, gStreamer often works, and I can usually get audio out of VLC and FLash video, but they aren't reliable00:47
jwilljonftle: I had a problem with sound in kubuntu.  I only got system sounds, and kde app sounds (eg amarok).  Nothing else worked.00:48
jwilljonftle: Turned out PCM is muted by default in Kubuntu, just to screw with you.00:48
jwilljonftle: Run alsamixer, see if PCM is muted (up key to turn volume up, make sure it says eg '99', not 'MM'00:49
jonftlejwill: Already found that one out and fixed it. I have sound, just not all the time, as if my sound devices aren't properly detected at startup. And as far as the system is concerned, none of my audio devices work at all. I get errors when i test them00:49
teezettcan someone tell me how to activate the broadcom wlan driver in kubuntu netbook remix00:49
jwilljonftle: Nope, I'm wrong.  Pulseaudio is normal and good.00:50
jwilljonftle: I have no idea.00:50
jonftlejwill: I ran AlsaMixer - had no idea that this was even here, and everything seems to be just fine00:51
jonftlejwill: But it still doesn't work, and like i said, the system actually thinks that my devices aren't working, even though they are. so i dont think that its a volume issue, you know what i mean?00:52
jwilljonftle: A safe assumption, probably.00:54
Daugha|nThis working now?>00:54
jwillDaughain: Presumably?00:54
jonftlejwill: well thanks for your help00:54
jwilljonftle: Sorry, don't know anything about your problem.00:55
Daugha|nApparently.... =) Ok got my wireless back. =)00:55
Daugha|nOK, so why is it the time in systems settings shows a 24 hr, but it wqont set it as 24 hr on the desktop?00:57
brunobotooi00:59
devilsadvocatejonftle, i assume you've already tried changing the priority of your audio devices?01:00
devilsadvocatejonftle, in case pulseaudio is being a bitch you can try moving it down and making alsa or hda or whatever get the higher priority01:02
devilsadvocatethat worked for me before01:02
Daugha|nOk, slowly getting used to this.....01:02
jonftledevilsadvocate: I have tried doing so from the Multimedia section of System Settings. Problem is, the system seems to think that neither of my devices work. However, they clearly do, most of the time. So when I hit the Test button for either device, I get a message in knotify that  they don't work01:02
Daugha|njwill;   Once I get my bearings, this is kinda fun to tinker with. =)01:02
jwillDaughain: You need to logout/in to update localization stuff.01:02
jwillYeah01:02
jonftledevilsadvocate: and when I go into the PulseAudio manager, under Devices, the only thing that it recognizes are Dummy Output devices01:02
devilsadvocatejonftle, hm01:02
Daugha|njwill;  I couldnt find a way to edit the time to 24 hr.01:02
Daugha|n=(01:02
devilsadvocatejonftle, you havent tried doing anything with jack, have you?01:02
jonftledevilsadvocate: I have not01:02
Daugha|nThough, smething seems to have gone right with the last install.....My audio s working better. =)01:03
jonftledevilsadvocate: Just a little more info - when I go into the pavucontrol GUI, under Configuration, PulseAudio tells me that there are no cards available for configuration01:03

jwill_Daughain: Pretty pretty: http://kde-look.org/content/show.php/Daisy?content=10207702:22
Daughainjwill_,   I didnt see a dock stle one yet.....dl'd a couple of tohers to try t =)hough. Still looking.02:22
jwill_Daughain: Found one ^02:22
* Daughain chuckles.02:22
DaughainNo too sure about this konqueror yet.....02:22
DaughainWhats that dasiy thing?02:23
jwill_Daughain: A dock.02:24
DaughainOK, thT is pretty......02:24
jwill_Daughain: I use Chrome.  Firefox has a pretty good kde theme, as well.02:24
DaughainI use firefox, but currently knoqueror is defailt......Havent gotten aorund to editing that yet.02:25
DaughainNeed to try chrome one of these days.02:26
jwill_It has extensions now.  I like it.02:26
phoenix_chrome is very good02:26
phoenix_my fav is the adblock extension02:27
DaughainI just javent gotten around to it. Chrme came out for linux, and i had to do a couple of reinstals.....Only had this install running for a few days now. =)02:27
jwill_I avoid adblock, because it kills the internet dead.02:27
phoenix_sometimes02:28
jwill_I mean that all internet services and websites are supported by advertising.  If everyone used adblock, the internet would suck.02:28
DaughainAnd, occasionaly there is something interesting on those ads.02:29
phoenix_but the heavy swf takes time, sometimes spywares too02:29
jwill_Can't say that's ever happened to me ever.02:29
jwill_phoenix_: Linux.02:29
phoenix_in windows02:30
phoenix_i dont know if linux is virus free02:30
phoenix_i am new to linux02:31
jwill_Well, there aren't very many viruses for linux, and it's generally more secure than windows.02:31
DaughainNothing is truly virus free,, buit, linux is about as close as ya can get. =)02:31
DaughainEach distro effectively needs a different vrus, which definitely helps.02:32
jwill_Yeah.  Linux is just as vulnerable to hackers, etc if not secured properly.  The difference is, most linux distros are secure by default.02:32
jwill_Put this way, every OS is equally vulnerable to stupidity.02:33
* Daughain chuckes...02:33
DaughainToo true.02:33
phoenix_ya02:33
Daughainkonquerer definitely sucks.02:34
phoenix_i dont get thumbnail preview for video files in dolphin. why02:35
phoenix_the two reasons i dont like konquerer are the new tab button, that is far from easy access and the drop down list bug02:36
phoenix_anyone using kubuntu02:37
jwill_phoenix_: Konqueror is endlessly configurable.  You can adjust the new tab button02:37
jwill_phoenix_: I'm using kubuntu.02:37
jwill_I'll use konqueror if a version using webkit comes out.  I love the KDE integration, but it just fails at so many sites...02:38
phoenix_are you using dolphin or konqueror as your file browser02:38
jwill_Dolphin, but they're pretty much the same.02:38
phoenix_do you get the thumbnail preview for video files02:39
jwill_They use the same kpart.  The only difference is in the reduced config options in dolphin, and the lack of webbrowsing.02:39
jwill_phoenix_: Nope.  Funny, though I saw something about the util it used to render previews.02:40

DaughainThats what I want.02:41
DaughainIf I can figger out where the hell it dl'd to....02:42
jwill_How about this: http://www.kde-look.org/content/show.php/yasp+Yet+Another+Systemmonitor+Plasmoid+?content=94144 ?02:43
jwill_Daughain: The one you were looking at is for a KDE3 technology02:43
jwill_Daughain: Which you could use, but would probably integrate poorly with plasma.  And would suck.02:43
DaughainWell, we shall see. Its also the only one I have found that loads as a docking bar.02:44
jwill_You're going to rue this day.02:45
DaughainWhy?02:45
DaughainI'm a mechanic, if I had any clue how to make these things myself, I would.02:46
jwill_RUE!02:48
DaughainIs KDE 4 also known as superkaramba?02:48
jwill_I think it's a third party KDE3 dock of sorts.02:48
jwill_I never tried it back in the KDE3 days.02:49
DaughainOK...brb, need to go see if I can fix girls issue....02:50

IzinucsI have the Facebook widgit loaded and managed to click the "full screen" link at the bottom.. How do I get it back in the "mini" mode?03:15
jwill_Daughain: Say "jwill_;", not "jwill;", as it doesn't get detected by my IRC client03:16

clicker4721Question: How do I add contacts using the Facebook plugin for Kopete?03:30
DaughainI'm thiking the problem is due to most of the widgets I need are karamba based, and not working right in KDE4.03:31

clicker4721Daughain Facebook plugin for Kopete. I can add contacts, but I can't talk to them. Oh! So do I add their email or their name?03:36

=== irfan is now known as Guest60940

DaughainNo, very confusing. =)05:12
jwill_Indeed.05:13
danielqso what do i need to do to make it work?05:13
jwill_How about we call it a feature?05:13
Daughainlol05:13
jwill_You were using too many DVDs anyways.  This is the eco-green-plastic-use-reduction feature.05:13
Daughainjwill_,   I may need to remember that one....05:14
jwill_danielq: I really don't know.  This is probably one for the kernel hackers.05:14
geniiI'd recommend something like: echo "/dev/scd0       /media/cdrom0   udf,iso9660 user,noauto,exec,utf8 0       0" | sudo tee -a /etc/fstab05:15
jwill_Maybe if we say "If only a developer were here" really loudly, one will show up?05:15
jwill_genii: Just adding an entry?  Is that healthy?05:15
Daughainjwill_,   genii is right, I was trying to remember the syntax. =)05:15
geniiThen with dvd in there:  sudo mount -t udf /media/cdrom005:15
geniiThen see if it's file contents are in that dir with ls or file browser05:16
jwill_danielq: Do what the genii man says.05:16

jwill_danielq: Was it doing that before?05:21
geniidanielq: Did you do the:  sudo mount -t udf /media/cdrom005:21
genii?05:21
DaughainYa...I have it ounted and running....Just need to figure out what sensor package I should be using for cpu temps.05:21
danielqyes, i did two commands05:22
jwill_Daughain: http://www.techthrob.com/2009/03/02/enabling-hardware-sensors-in-linux/05:22
geniidanielq: Hm. does: ls /media/cd*                show cdrom0 or just cdrom?05:22
danielqfor the second command, it is udf??05:22
Daughainjwill_,   I have lmsensors installed and was running that fine in gnome.....05:23
jwill_Daughain: But aptitude is better than apt-get05:23
geniidanielq: For DVD, filesystem is udf, for CD, filesystem is iso966005:23
jwill_Daughain: Ah.  Well, I said you'd rue this day.05:23
Daughainjwill_,   It may just be an issue with the scripting on the theme....05:23
danielqls /media/cd* gets:05:23
danielq/media/cdrom05:23
Daughainjwill_,    I didnt think 9.10 supported apttude.05:23
danielq/media/cdrom105:23
danielq/media/cdrom005:24
jwill_Daughain: Huh?  I've been using it for a few weeks.05:24
Daughainjwill_,   OK, I said I wasnt sure. :P  I been using at-get for just as long. Anyway, already have those sensor packages installed.05:25
geniidanielq: OK, so when you issued the mount command, the right drive spun? (You have more than one drive)05:25
danielqyes, the right drive spun. It looked like that way05:26
jwill_Daughain: This is a pretty fresh install.  Was using OpenSuSE before now.  Stupid RPM packages...05:26
Daughainjwill_,   I been using windows. Finally got pissed off at it, so, linux it is. =)  Looked around and ubuntu appeared to be aboutt he easiest for a newb. =)05:26
geniidanielq: OK. Recommend then to comment out  the line we added, you can open it with: kdesudo kate /etc/fstab                 and put a # at front of last line in there05:28
jwill_Daughain: Yeah, I really can't stand anything that doesn't use debian (.deb) packages.05:28
danielqgennii: ok, it is commented out now05:29
Daughainjwill_,   Why?05:29
geniidanielq: To see what drive is what, we can manually pop it out from software like: sudo eject -t /dev/scd005:29
Daughainjwill_,   And why were you using opensuse then?? =)05:30
jwill_Daughain: Probably just because I'm used to it.  Ubuntu was the first distro I used, and I used only it for about a year.05:30
* Daughain nods.05:30
geniidanielq: Then we know if tray of correct drive slides out we have right /dev/name05:30
jwill_Daughain: I was trying distros that were supposed to be better for KDE (Kubuntu is terrible in that was, though less so now than historically).05:30
Daughainjwill_,   Why not try mint, then?05:31
amstanjwill_: i had positive experience with opensuse05:31
danielqnothing happened after sudo eject -t /dev/scd005:31
jwill_Daughain: It's not really a real distro05:31

Daughainamstan,   I thought it was....Guess I was wrong.05:32
jwill_Daughain: Although I haven't tried KDE on Mint.  I tried GNOME, but it felt very unprofessional.  All the stuff installed, and weird little utils...05:32
geniidanielq: First see if it is somehow mounted by the system. Just put: mount                            and see if it shows a line with scd0 or scd1  or /media/cdrom /media/cdrom0 /media/cdrom105:32
danielqgenii: no, no scd0, scd1 or any cdroms05:33
Daughainjwill_,   I started with 9.04, al of two weks before Karmic was released. =) So, I tried upgrading, that failed miserably, so, went with a clean install and been quite happy since. =)05:34
jwill_Daughain: I've never had upgrade work as intended.  I think they should strongly discourage it, at least to warn first time users.05:35
jwill_Daughain: OpenSuSE does that, saying upgrading isn't supported.  Do it at mortal risk to your computer's well-being.05:36
Daughainjwill_,   Yea, that would prolly be a good idea. Re-installs dont bother me, so, it wasnt a big deal, but I can see your average windows user trying it and getting seriously upset.05:37

phoenixzOnce having KDE4.4 installed, is there a way to revert to KDE4.3 without install? I have a test machine and I don't want to have to reinstall it, if possible..14:48
phoenixzKDE4.4 was installed from PPA repo..14:49
petsoundsphoenixz, to my knowledge. you can't.14:50
theseusHi, I have a problem with my update from today. I made a dist-upgrade and removed kdepim. Now if I try to reinstall kdepim I get an error for many packages that depends on old packages (kmail, kontact,...) (How can I chose another output language than I coult post my output)14:55
theseushttp://paste.ubuntu.com/351812/ here is my sources.list ans the error that I get (in german)14:59
llutztheseus: sudo apt-get -f install14:59
Koliaphoenixz: why would you revert? in case of problem?15:00
theseusllutz: same error :-(15:00
phoenixzKolia: KDE4.4 vs KDE4.3 is about 400% slower on that machine, dunno why... Typing text sometimes is like.. typing 10 characters without seeing any change.. and 3 seconds later, those 10 characters appear.. I now want to start using the machine a bit more and as it is now, its practically useless..15:01
theseusAre there any other comands I could try, or other things I could do?15:03
Koliaphoenixz: wow! have you update your graphic driver in the same time?15:03
phoenixzKolia: Nope.. Machine is a laptop, Dell D620 with Intel 945 graphics set.. Anything I'd need to do to fix that?15:04
theseusIf I try to install kontact (for example) I get: libkdepim4 (= 4:4.3.2-0ubuntu6) aber 4:4.3.4-0ubuntu1~karmic1 soll installiert werden15:05
theseus perhaps this is helpful15:05
phoenixzKolia: Thinking about it.. I recall KDE4.2 having something similar with intel chipsets.. or better, I think it was Kubuntu 8.10.. I had to update the kernel to 2.6.31 to fix that problem back then.. dunno if its related..15:05
phoenixzKolia: Anything I could do to speed up 4.4, or to revert it to 4.3?15:09
Koliaphoenixz: have you tried booting with an older kernel?15:09
Koliaphoenixz: i had a lots of problem recently with the last kernels15:10
phoenixzKolia: mmmm, could always be kernel, ofcourse, but the problem showed up once I installed new KDE4.4, I don't recall it also had a new kernel installed with that update15:12
Koliawell if you have older kernels still installed and visible at startup in grub, just try older ones in case.15:12

Koliacram1: you can also try #kde.  also try to precise your questions because nobody will answer you if you ask for general help15:16
cram1i was able to config a network printer and print a test page but after that it stopped working and i can not find any advanced options for my printer15:17

pinkisntwellkubuntu messed up my system real good.15:26
pinkisntwellI had windows vista on it, i then installed kubuntu along with it. it worked first, then it updated itself and broke plasma-desktop. now i see that it messed up the windows installation too and i can't login into windows15:27
pinkisntwellthat's great15:27
pinkisntwellis anyone round to help?15:27
devilsadvocatepinkisntwell, it _cant_ mess up your windows15:28
devilsadvocatepinkisntwell, do you mean you cant boot into windows or log in to it?15:28
pinkisntwellwell it did though, it was probably the resize during the installation15:28
pinkisntwellif i try to boot into windows it looks like it loads but then it cuts off and the computer restarts15:28
pinkisntwellit does that a few times then it gives you the option to try to fix the problem, it tries but it says it can't15:29
pinkisntwellthat's just great15:29

devilsadvocatepinkisntwell, typically, it shouldnt. but then, i havent tried resizing ntfs from linux in a long time, so i cant say for sure15:33
pinkisntwelldevilsadvocate: so let me tell you then that it __can__ mess up your windows15:33

PilumHello. I recently installed kubuntu 9.10 on my Dell Vostro 1510 with a GeForce 8600GT and I'm having trouble configuring a dual screen setup. Firstly, if I boot the PC with the external screen connected, the laptop's screen is completely disabled, that is to say I'm not able to enable it in the display settings. Nor am I able to configure multiple monitors there (it claims that "you do not appear to have this configuration"). I've been messing ab15:44
Pilumout a bit with xrandr trying to do it manually and I've tried with different nvidia drivers (and now without any of them) without success. I've been altering Xorg.conf so it has a Virtual setting of 2560 1024 but this doesn't seem to have any effect. When I call xrandr I get "xrandr: screen cannot be larger than 1280x1280 (desired size 2560x1024)" - would anyone be able to point me in the right direction for how to solve this? TIA.15:44

jwillshappie: For blurring, you probably need something like the gimp.  I'd just erase it. Or draw a black square over it.18:11

DaughainBut, whats the fun in that? I have a new toy, I wanna play withit. =)20:04
mediaprodigyIs Kubuntu better than Ubuntu? Why?20:04
BluesKajwobbly windows doesn't require compiz20:04
genii!better20:04
ubottuUsually, there is no single "best" application to perform a given task. It's up to you to choose, depending on your preferences, features you require, and other factors. Do NOT take polls in the channel. If you insist on getting people's opinions, ask BestBot in #ubuntu-bots.20:04
Daughainmediaprodigy,   Better question is, what are the differences, other then KDE being pre-installed. =)20:04

sven_oostenbrinkchj: well, convert doesnt work either! after the convert, I end up with an equal looking image! Im going nuts here, how frigging dificult can it be to modify image brightness or contrast!??!22:10

NoviceDoes anyone know how to get a Belkin N1 Wireless USB TO WORK ON KARMIC?22:39
Novicesry for caps22:39
WilliamBuellI am an Ubuntu newbie, but I got the belkin working,... I blogged everything I did step by step at wordpress. Can't remember the details now22:40
jwillNovice: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HardwareSupportComponentsWirelessNetworkCardsBelkin#USB22:41
jwillNovice: Not sure which one is N122:42
BluesKajtoo bad you didn't boomark the site, I've been trying to get my usb belkin to work22:42
WilliamBuelli just looked at my tag cloud for wifi http://williambuell.wordpress.com/tag/wifi/22:42
WilliamBuellso, whatever i did is somewhere in there22:42
WilliamBuelli had to struggle and then suddenly, mystically, it worked22:43
Novicejwill: yeah I found that site too but I have never used ndiswrapper before22:43
jwillNovice: Oh, you have to use ndiswrapper?  I've heard terrible things about that.22:43
Novicejwill: mine is the F5D8051 it says something about ndis+netmw245 any clues as to what that is22:44
jwillNovice: I think ndiswrapper allows you to run windows drivers.  So presumably you get that driver and run it under ndiswrapper22:45
maurii've a problem updating kdepim-runtime-data22:45
Novicejwill: pretty sure ndiswrapper is standard issue on ubuntu theese days22:45
Novicejwill: do you think it would be safe to download that driver from say mediafire?22:46
jwillCan't you get it from the manufacturer site?22:46
WilliamBuelltry putting the belkin in different usb slots.... also try rebooting ubuntu with the usb in different slots22:47
WilliamBuelli didnt need to use ndiswrapper22:47
Novicejwill: no clue22:47
WilliamBuellbut, i do know that in the synaptic manager there are different things to install that have to do with wifi22:47
sfearsi wasn't able to get ndiswrapper working with 9.04.. took a while but my wirless card just started working.. i used to have to use ndiswrapper in 8.1022:47
NoviceWilliamBuell: how is that there are no linux drivers for belkin22:47
WilliamBuelli mean you can keep trying it out22:47
WilliamBuelli have a feakin belkin working right now.... dont know how i did it, but it started working22:48
jwillNovice: It's Belkin's call as to wether they want to support 1% of their customers22:48
jwillSometimes they just don't support linux users.22:49
WilliamBuellevery step i did during 20 install and reinstall attempts is documented at my wordpress22:49
Novicejwill: yeah I am fine with that understanably was just wondering how WilliamBuellw got his to work22:49
WilliamBuelli reinstalled wubi ubuntu about 20 times on windows, playing around22:49
jwillWilliamBuell: Are you sure ndiswrapper isn't installed?22:49
WilliamBuelland i did a full ubuntu from cd about 4 times22:49
WilliamBuelli cant really be sure about anything.... it took me 100 man hours to get the thing working22:50
WilliamBuelli tried everything under the sun, and finally the install worked22:50
WilliamBuellif you search youtube, you will find tutorials about usb wireless and ndiswrapper22:51
WilliamBuelli mean, search UBUNTU WI-FI or something like that22:51
NoviceAnyone know where to get the netmw245.inf driver?22:52
jwillwilliam, maybe type cat /etc/modules | grep "ndiswrapper"22:52
WilliamBuelli dont know that much about linux, and i got my install working, so i dont feel like messing with it any more22:53
jwillDoesn't change anything.  It just prints out a line from a config file22:53
WilliamBuellno offense, but one fellow in irc tried to tell me to do malicious destructive things22:53
WilliamBuellyeah yeah, thats what the bad guy said22:53
jwillNo sudo, and it's outside your home dir22:53
jwillAlso, I'm not a dick.22:54
jwillWilliamBuell: Okay, just navigate there in the filemanager, open that file with kate, and look for ndiswrapper22:54
WilliamBuellif you ask satan if he is satan, he will swear up and down he is not satan..... you know how that goes.... i am done messing with ubuntu until it crashes and i need to do another 7 hour install22:54
jwillThat's what the command does, just faster22:54
