shan3hi all00:55
shan3I have submitted a bug to change some dependencies in some packages for the Lucid release... is it too late? or is there a chance they will be fixed?00:56
shan3Link to bug: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/language-support-writing-en/+bug/50274800:57
ubot4Launchpad bug 502748 in language-support-writing-en "Dependency chain forces installation of OpenOffice" [Undecided,New]00:57
hggdhshan3: no, it shouldnot be too late01:02
hggdhI added regression-potential as a tag to the bug01:02
shan3hggdh: thank you01:02
hggdhshan3: do you still have the bug # for the old bug?01:02
hggdhit would be good to have a reference on the new one01:02
shan3i searched for it but i couldn't find it...01:02
shan3I made it using an old launchpad account which I don't use anymore...01:02
hggdhbut it was against the same package as the current bug, right?01:02
shan3well the devs who fixed it made some dependency changes to the openoffice l10n packages... if i remember correctly01:03
shan3https://bugs.launchpad.net/~librano04 but it doesn't show that bug...01:17
hggdhif the bug was closed, you have to go through an adavanced search01:21
hggdhbut no, even then it is not there01:22
shan3found it... https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/hardy/+source/openoffice.org/+bug/22081701:27
ubot4Launchpad bug 220817 in openoffice.org "OpenOffice.org language packs pull in openoffice.org binaries" [High,Fix released]01:27
shan3hggdh: ^01:27
hggdhshan3: cool, this is it. Can you add a link to this bug in the new one? This would certainly help01:29
hggdh(I was already reading the bug)01:30
shan3ok will do hggdh01:32

persiaI'm encountering an issue with using terminator and metacity with focus-follows-mouse and focus grabs.  Specifically, if something grabs my focus, and my cursor is still in the terminator window, I no longer can change focus between different regions in terminator with focus-follows-mouse until I've left and re-entered terminator.06:35
persiaShould I be filing a bug against terminator, or against metacity?  Any ideas?06:35

hggdhpedro_: thank you for setting the gnome-terminal bug to triaged, I selected the wrong drop-down15:03
LimCoreIm using ubuntu with some people15:03
LimCoreand we thinks its really really NOT for human beings, as there are many not friendly behaviours, lack of informations, missleading things and other stuff15:04
pedro_hggdh, you're welcome. happy new year btw!15:04
LimCoreI wonder does it make sense to report it, and how15:04
LimCorelike overall usability problems is most applications.. should that be reported?15:04
LimCorelike Synatpic's question about "we need to also install this packages to install the one you want" makes users think that "it does not work"15:05
hggdhpedro_: happy new year to you also (I tend to forget)15:08
hggdhLimCore: usability issues are considered bugs, also. Alternatively, you can send an email to devel-discuss expanding on your views15:09
hggdhand *then* open as many bugs as necessary15:09
LimCorefor example the logout menu even is messed up15:28
LimCorewhen I click the power icon, I see powerdown, suspend etc. I do not see LOGOUT option, it is hidden totally else. Thats super confusing, what do you think15:28
bddebianBoo15:29
hggdhLimCore: it sounds that you are not using the correct applet15:38
hggdhLimCore: on Gnome, you need to have the Indicator Applet Session applet in the panel15:41
LimCorehggdh: this is a totally clean install of 9.1015:57
LimCoreusing Gnome as default15:57
hggdhLimCore: if you do not have the Indicator Applet Session in place, after a full clean install, then this is a bug16:00
apwi have noted a lot of people asking for mentorship on the ubuntu-bugcontrol mailing list, w16:00
nahshttps://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+bug/503041 <---- does anyone have this bug? It's not getting any attention and it's..bugging me lol16:01
ubot4Launchpad bug 503041 in ubuntu "Mouse lags while copying highlighted text." [Undecided,New]16:01
LimCorewait wait, that account was the restored account, with restored setting. After all, a NEW account in 9.10 seems to not have the problem I described.. so its fixed now :)16:01
LimCore(although it would be nicer if that other application-button that shows shutdown/restart/hibern/sleep  would also show logout)16:01
apwi have noted a lot of people asking for mentorship on the ubuntu-bugcontrol mailing list, which seems to be triggered by the text here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/GettingInvolved ... but it appears there is a new process using this wiki page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/Mentors ... who owns the docs there?16:02
apwor at least can confirm which is the right way16:02
hggdhapw: let me look at the pages16:03
apwhggdh, indeed some of the emails i have recieved indicate there may be a third way the 'lp page' which i assume is a launchpad group .... much confusion reigns and i can see what appear to be 8 or 10 new requests which are seemingly ignored16:05
hggdhapw -- the request to membership (the "lp page" thingie) is the same as stated in https://wiki.ubuntu.com/BugSquad/Mentors16:06
apwok cool.  so do we need to change the 'getting involved' page to point to that one?16:07
hggdhapw -- the requests are not really being ignored -- this is -- as I stated in the page -- a WIP16:07
hggdhapw: indeed we need to change it16:07
apwi don't mean the ones in the page, i mean the ones in email which followed the broken instructions16:07
apwat least i don't see anyone replying (other than me :)16:07
apwand i am pointing them to the other page, in the hopes i was right to do so16:08
hggdhI cannot di it right now, very slow bloody wiki conneciton16:08
apwyep the wiki can suck16:08
hggdhin my case, it is the wifi I have at my customer :-(16:08
hggdhso I get a lot of timeouts16:08
apwi'll point the intructions there as an interim, feel free to correct16:09
hggdhwe are still trying to get it done -- I was doing part of it, but, unfortunately, got way too busy earning money16:09
hggdh(not that I am complaining about the earning money part, mind you)16:10
nigel_nbhello16:10
hggdhbut yes, I agree. Like now we are looking very much like the London underground, mind the gap and all of that16:11
hggdhhi nigel_nb16:11
nigel_nblong time hggdh, I keep missing you online16:11
hggdhyes, I am sorry about that16:11
nigel_nbhappy new year, hope its good so far hggdh :)16:11
apwhggdh, cool, once one of us has fixed the page, i'll reply to everyone who doesn't appear to have an answer and asking them to use the other page16:11
hggdhapw thank you very much. We were trying to automagically add them all as membership requestors, but we hit a bug on launchpad :-(16:12
nahsso yeah :/16:12
nahsguess this one will go unfixed16:12
hggdhnahs: patience, please ;-)16:13
hggdhnigel_nb: a happy one for you too16:13
nigel_nbhggdh: so far, my computer is not friendly to me, have to get it repaire16:13
hggdh:-)16:13
hggdhnahs: this sounds like a X issue16:14
nahsNothing's wrong with graphics card or anything like that, just the whole "copying to clipboard" craps out everything16:14
nahshggdh: has anything similar been reported yet?16:14
nahsI'm surprised 9.04 is way more stable than 9.10, 9.10 = too much new features16:15
hggdhnahs: not to my knowlegde, but I do not deal much with X. Try following https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/Debugging16:15
nahsit's not much of a crash or a anything, just a little lag16:15
hggdhnahs: well, it was the other way around with me, 9.10 was better than 9.04. But it does not mean much when it does not work16:15
nahshggdh: can you try doing the little thing and see if it affects you as well?16:16
hggdhnahs: no, it does not affect me, but I am running 10.04 alpha. Another thing you could do -- check if there is a runaway appl eating CPU16:16
hggdhnahs: and it did not affect me while I was on 9.1016:17
hggdhmost of the times I had lag I found one appl in loop16:17
nahsit's just when you copy smoe text16:17
nahs-while- moving the mouse16:17
nahsthere's a 0.5 second lag16:17
nahsor a 0.8 one rather16:18
hggdhnot here. If nothing is overusing CPU, then it really sounds like X somewhere, perhaps xserver-xorg-input-(evdev|mouse)16:19
\vishnahs: how is ctrl+v == copy for you? or did you mean paste or  crtl+c16:21
\vishnahs: but yeah , i can reproduce the problem16:23
\vish!test16:25
ubot4yes, I'm alive.16:25
LimCore!dance16:25
ubot4Factoid 'dance' not found16:25
nahs\vish: ctrl+c, my bad16:25
\vishnahs: what graphics card are you using? as hggdh mentioned it might be X related... FWIW , I'm using Lucid 10.04 , so it still happens in the latest too ;)16:27
nahsIt's not the graphics card, the whole operating system lags when I do that putting it this way16:27
nahsbecause I've tried it on two laptops that are completely different16:28
nahsOne's Intel one's AMD one has nVidia graphics card one has Intel so :/16:28
\vishhmm...16:28
hggdh_there is more to X than just the video cards...16:28
\vishthat too :)16:28
\vishhggdh_: did you try it while moving the mouse? i get the pointer jump but no huge lags16:29
nahsalso how can I edit a bug description, don't know what I was drinking when I wrote ctrl+v haha16:29
\vishnahs: updated it already ;)16:29
nahsso far like 3 people have the same thing, 4 if you count both of my laptops16:30
nahsI'll just wait for the ubuntu-bug-fixing angel to see it16:30
nahsGracias for everything though amigos :)16:31
\vishnahs: the bug was reported only in the last day.. how do you say already there are others?16:31
nahsI asked people yesterday16:31
\vishah.. k16:32
hggdh_so these folks should state this bug affects them also16:37
nahsoh well :/16:37
hggdh_but there are already 3 of them in, this is good.16:38
hggdh_nahs: let's assume, right now, this is X-related. Please follow the instructions on the page I provided you16:39
nahsalright16:41
hggdh_\vish, nahs: I marked it confirmed16:43

\vishhggdh_: cool , i didnt confirm it because I wasnt sure of the package.. can bugs without packages be confirmed?16:44
hggdh_\vish -- they *should* not, but in this case, I did it. The sooner we find a package to lay the blame on, the better16:46
\vishk..16:46
hggdh_asking at #ubuntu-x right now...16:47

\vishhggdh_: hehe... i'm a guy , so no need to be confused over him/her  :p [comment on the bug]17:13
pedro_bdmurray, cool! it looks awesome, thank you!17:14
\vishpedro_: hi.. could you close this bug > Bug #367626 its not valid anymore and the upstream report too .. :)17:17

ubot4Launchpad bug 500384 in ubuntu "Ubuntu started so fast" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/50038421:36
macowhat?21:36
maconull? what?21:36
bdmurraybeats me I just thought starting so fast was funny21:36
nigel_nbu must be kidding me21:36
\vishhehe21:37
nigel_nbOMG! someone has actually logged a bug because their system was fast?21:37
charlie-tcaWell, it does take all kinds...21:42
nigel_nband whats with the null? trying to sound like a programmer21:44
JFothe only good response to that is Woo!21:44
nigel_nb?21:44
JFosorry, "Woo!"21:44
nigel_nbmy response is "so yeah, its fast, you want us to slow it down?"21:44
charlie-tcayeah, nigel_nb. I saw that too, and wonder if that means the screen is blank for a couple of seconds.21:45
charlie-tcaSeems like a 10 second startup is great21:45
nigel_nbcharlie-tca: for someone who confuses terminology21:45
charlie-tcaI would take a blank screen the whole time for that21:45
nigel_nbit may as well mean that every application takes 10 seconds to load, and ubuntu hangs during that time21:46
charlie-tcatrue21:46
nigel_nband the fast is meant to be sarcasm, who knows21:46
charlie-tcaWhat ever it means, the reporter is not happy :-(21:46
nigel_nband he's not helping us help him21:47
charlie-tcaI'm sure it is clear to him, though21:48
nigel_nbcharlie-tca: whatever the case, he'll be more pissed off and more unhelpful21:50
\vishso is anyone gonna triage the bug? ;)21:59
nigel_nb\vish: I'd love to, but I dont think I can22:08
nigel_nb"You are not the bug assignee nor the maintainer of Ubuntu, and therefore cannot edit this bug's status. "22:08
nigel_nbcorrection22:08
nigel_nbI haven't logged it22:08

nigel_nbmr_pouit: ping23:04
nigel_nbthat bug about abiword, is it a workflow bug that the bug squad can skip?23:04
charlie-tcayes23:07
charlie-tcaThat is the new one to move it to universe, right?23:07
charlie-tcaIt is a packageing bug23:08
nigel_nbah23:08
charlie-tcaI tend to keep watch for all the abiword bugs, myself.23:09
nigel_nbbut should that go into a mailing list?23:09
charlie-tcaWhat?23:10
charlie-tcathat I watch them?23:10
charlie-tcaXubuntu uses Abiword instead of OpenOffice.org, so Abiword comes under the xubuntu-team bug watch23:11
nigel_nbno23:11
nigel_nbI mean the bug is about getting abiword out of main because it is not being maintained23:11
nigel_nbso shouldn't this go to some dev discussion23:11
charlie-tcano, the devs will pick up on it23:11
charlie-tcaI already discussed it with the developers and maintainers23:12
nigel_nbah okay, great23:12
nigel_nbmoving on then23:12
charlie-tcaThanks for helping23:13
