yu210148Hi All, quick question, running mythbuntu 9.10 and want to open up port 6546 in the firewall on the front-end box so that I can use a network remote app on an ipod touch but I don't know iptables enough to do it at the command line.  How can I open this port?01:13
rhpot1991yu210148: I don't think it should be blocked by default (I'm not positive though)01:31
yu210148humm.  Curious, the remote won't connect but I'm not convinced it's a firewall issue either01:33
yu210148I've got a back-end/front-end combo running on an open suse machine and used yast to open that port01:33
yu210148and the damn ipod touch app still won't connect01:33
yu210148I'm thinking I should've got an antroid.01:34
yu210148*android01:34
yu210148where's that setting to enable network remote controls?01:35
yu210148I'm pretty sure I set it to do so but I'd like to double check and can't find the thing.01:35
yu210148:)01:35
yu210148nevermind, front-end setup01:35
yu210148and the port's set to 654601:36
yu210148huh01:36
yu210148this other app just says that the remote connection to the front end has received an error01:37
yu210148but helpfully doesn't tell me what the error is. :\01:38
yu210148Although I guess that tells me that the port is open.  It errors out quickly rather than timing out.01:38
yu210148at least as far as the firewall goes01:38
yu210148okay, got it.  not sure what was up. but this second app 'MyMote' was able to connect after a bit of mucking around.01:42
yu210148I think the suse backend was screwing it up initially01:43
yu210148the 'front-end' is a slave back-end/frontend box running mythbuntu and the master backend is the suse box01:44
yu210148so the remote app wouldn't connect to the suse-backend but would to the mythbuntu backend on the 'front-end'01:44
yu210148I may not be making much sense. But I think that's what worked. :)01:45
superm1well as long as it's all working now01:47
superm1suse should have some little applet in yast to go and muck with firewall settings if my memory serves you right01:47
cjtinantHey guys, I'm a college student about to start the next semester and would like to get my Mythbuntu setup functioning ASAP....01:49
cjtinantFresh v9.10 installation -->  issues with VIDEO (TV only) and SOUND (TV and Movies).01:50
superm1too bad, both of the important things! :)01:51
superm1what's the particulars on the issues?01:51
cjtinantNO Sound; ALSA and TV crashes when change channel....01:51
superm1okay lets start with the TV crashes, define crash, segfault, freeze, black picture, what?01:52
cjtinantI prepared this earlier...01:52
cjtinantAh, freezes, then exits to the Main screen...01:52
cjtinantCompiled this log file earlier today:   http://mythbuntu.pastebin.com/m40aed98201:53
superm1cjtinant, looks like your tuner isn't properly configured01:56
superm1what type of tuner is this supposed to be?01:56
cjtinantMythbuntu v9.10 64 bit -->   GeForce 9600 GT 1GB 256-bit GDDR3 01:57
cjtinant2 pcHDTV HD-550001:57
superm1i'd start out and configure the digital side of those01:58
superm1they should be DVB devices01:58
cjtinantsuperm1: great...  think I found this on a wiki site for the card...  the V4L option01:59
superm1cjtinant, well maybe i should ask first, were you intending to use the analog or digital side of that tuner?02:00
cjtinantsuperm1:  Have them connected to straight Cable (Basic) under 100 channels....  Digital I believe.02:01
cjtinantKnology Basic Pkg02:02
superm1cjtinant, usually those basic packages are actually analog02:02
superm1most providers havent switched over yet02:02
cjtinantah, think I remember reading that somewhere.02:03
cjtinantSo will these cards work then?02:03
superm1they should02:03
cjtinantSo keep them at VL402:04
superm1for the analog side yeah02:04
superm1so since it says unknown codec, lets see what dmesg looks like02:04
superm1maybe the cards aren't being properly recognized by the kernel02:04
cjtinantI do get TYV, just real crappy......02:04
superm1yeah its a software encoder, dont expect miracles...02:05
superm1if you can get any digital channels, those are far more ideal02:05
cjtinantuh, STB then?02:06
superm1well add the digital side of the card and scan for channels with it02:06
superm1if you pick anything up, you'll be able to use that part of the card to tune instead02:06
cjtinantk...   Will delete the V4L and set at DVB....  you will be on when I get done I hope02:07
superm1you can leave the V4L there02:09
superm1both can remain02:09
superm1http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/PcHDTV_HD-550002:09
superm1talks about it02:09
cjtinantThere are several scan options;  Broadcast, QAM Hig, etc....   which option?  the 2 I have chosen are not getting a signal02:13
cjtinantsuperm1:  Tried Cable - no signal02:15
cjtinantsuperm1:  Tried QAM 64 and 256...  No signal02:17
cjtinantsuperm1: Dont think it will work as Digital....   Keeps getting no signal...  Tried 64s and 256s  Cable, High, even Broadcast.02:21
cjtinantAnd BTW, had 2 PVR500s running and they DID get signal and worked prior to installing this new OS02:21
cjtinantI live in RC, SD 57701;  middle of no-where,....  Last place to get Digital I recon...   We still have Horse n' Buggy02:22
mazzomazhi there02:34
mazzomaz/dev/input/eventX change at every restart ... the device is not listed in /dev/input/by-path02:35
mazzomazwhat can I do to get my Remote Controller working after every restart ?02:35
cjtinantsuperm1:  I followed the instructions, but could not get the driver installed as I dont know the root password03:14
jac1dGood evening all.  Fresh install of 9.10 32 bit and I have enabled the prop codecs.  I can not play a DVD from disc with vlc or anything else.  I also can not seem to install mplayer from the repo, it says it is missing but referred to by somethin gelse.  Is this normal?03:15
jac1dsuperm1: There is no default root password, using sudo you use your regular login password03:15
cjtinantDont work with Linux much; would this be the correct installation?03:16
cjtinanthttp://www.linuxforums.org/forum/linux-newbie/10369-how-do-i-install-tar-gz-src-rpm-files.html03:16
rhpot1991jac1d: did you enable dvd playback?03:17
rhpot1991jac1d: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats03:17
jac1drhpot1991: Ah that is news to me, I'll take a look.03:17
jac1drhpot1991: Installing now.  Is Mplayer part of this?03:19
jac1dwth... why isn't mplayer in the repos...03:22
jac1dah, nvidia ppa has it listed but it isn't present... nice03:25
cjtinantsuperm1: performed the steps for the pcHDTV HD-5500 and now get "Failed to Open" in the Capture Card Setup.....03:26
rhpot1991jac1d: it should be around03:26
cjtinantInstalled drivers, set the card for digital and analog.03:27
rhpot1991jac1d: sudo apt-get install mplayer03:27
jac1drhpot1991: There was a conflict with the ubuntu ppa for the newer nvidia drivers.  I commented out the PPA and got mplayer03:33
jac1drhpot1991: Does the new SG issue mean you can't rip a DVD right now and play it back?03:33
rhpot1991!iso | jac1d03:35
Zinnjac1d: Storage Groups are a streaming method of transmitting material to a frontend, meaning they don't provide block-level access to the file in question. An ISO is a disk image, and requires block-level access. Upstream has a plan to simulate a block device across the network using NBD for 0.23. Until then you can use the following workaround: http://www.baablogic.net/drupal/node/703:35
rhpot1991follow that03:35
rhpot1991and all will work flawless03:35
jac1dthanks03:36
jac1drhpot1991: Created the dir, set the perms and set it in the front end but rips still not working... anything I might have missed?03:44
rhpot1991jac1d: well do they start?03:45
rhpot1991drm will cause rips to not work03:45
jac1drhpot1991: Yes, solved that part already.  JUst tried it again and this time it did say it would try and start but is failing waiting for media access, which is abit odd, nothing else is running on the box.03:46
rhpot1991check your settings make sure you have the right dvd location defined03:47
rhpot1991 /dev/dvd or /dev/sr0 most likely03:47
jac1dok, will check that (although player works?)  Will check perms as well, saw that as a problem in distant past03:48
jac1d/dev/dvd is linked to /dev/sr003:48

cmoman4I have the aforementioned DVB-S satellite card working with Mythbuntu but am struggling to get the IR remote going05:27
cmoman4I've tried all the Hauppauge IR remote options in the set up but none appears to work05:28
cmoman4the irw command does not create any output when the IR remote buttons are pushed05:38
cmoman4I've also used the configuration file presented on the mythty.org/wiki link05:38
mazzomazzore05:48
mazzomazzonow everything works fine - but there's a new problem05:49
mazzomazzoI always geht the error message "Error opening jump program file". What does this error mean?05:50
EssobiMmm..05:57

Essobiouch06:07
mazzomazEssobi, do you have fixed this error?06:08
ReidHey, silly question. With C++ how do you propose   while (x does not = y) { }09:19
ReidI know it's not relavent to mythtv directly, but I figured someone here would know a little bit of C.09:19
MistStlkrReid: http://www.intap.net/~drw/cpp/cpp04_03.htm09:21
ReidMistStlkr: Thanks09:45

Zinnt0mas: Hi $nick, how are you?  Something we can help you with today?19:11
t0masnot yet, I was just reading the webpage and preparing to install mythtv in ubuntu (for which mythbuntu seems the easiest way)19:12
Crewsr3I do have a few questions.......Would it be best to install Mythbuntu straight from the cd if my computer is going to be a dedicated HTPC?  I'm not that good with XFCE19:25
Crewsr3or should I install ubuntu and then install mythtv on top of that19:25
rhpot1991Crewsr3: if its only gonna run myth then it really doesn't matter if you have gnome or xfce behind it19:28
rhpot1991at that point I'd install from the mythbuntu cd, lighterweight19:29
Crewsr3ok19:32
Crewsr3thanks19:32
superm1configures more for you too automagically19:36
mmarreHi all! I have an issue with the latest Mythbuntu release. Everything is working fine, except EIT (EPG). I am using Technisat Skymaster HD2 (DBV) and configured the card to use the EPG stream (no XMLTV). But there are no entrys in the program list shown. How can I check if a EPG stream is arriving?21:09
cjtinantneed to know what I should set my "Video Mode Settings" to - PVR500....22:59
