[00:03] * nigel_nb realizes he's watching the wrong movie when hungry === starcraft is now known as starcraftman [00:20] * nigel_nb is off foraging for food [00:21] hello cprofitt [00:23] cprofitt: yes I would be interested in doing that [00:24] duanedesign: do you have an account on the Moodle site yet? [00:24] cprofitt: i dont think so. I remembered looking at it a long time ago. i can check [00:25] check... let me know [00:25] if not make an account with openID and I will give you course creator rights [00:29] cprofitt: ok i got it [00:31] all set for course creator duanedesign [00:31] cprofitt: great [00:32] feel free to ask me questions... [00:32] cprofitt: i have all the materials compiled to do courses on all the Launchpad topics. I am working through it all and condensing it [00:33] cprofitt: thanks, i might take you up on that :) [00:33] np [01:08] later everyone [01:33] cprofitt: when you have some time, on https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Learning/CourseLayout do you think you can add some kind of "Moodle Example" to each which explains where in moodle each section would go? or what it would be called? [02:07] Is anyone here tonight? [02:07] evening [02:07] how are you [02:07] ? [02:08] can I ask a question? [02:08] chitchatcurtis: we're a course development project, if it's a support channel you'd be better off trying #ubuntu :) [02:09] you just answered my question [02:10] if you'd like more information about our project the project wiki page in the /topic can tell you more [02:11] ok thanks Im new to linux I guess I will look on this site on the 11th and see what this is all about [02:12] we're working on writing courses about ubuntu that teams can teach [02:13] Im very interested in learning. [02:13] if you're interested, we're also having a "User Day" on Saturday in a couple weeks: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UserDays [02:15] ok I also have a few friends here that are also interested. Im doing my best in south east oklahoma to spread the word about Ubuntu [02:16] cool :) [02:16] I don't know how active it is, but there is an Ubuntu team in OK: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/OklahomaTeam [02:16] I just joined a few days ago. [02:16] oh great [02:18] Im going to try to get something going closer to home. I have friends that use fedora and arch. but we are going to get something together here. [02:18] * pleia2 nods [02:20] pleia2, ah, your back :) [02:21] don't know when yet but we are working on it. I have run into several business that run a linux os here but they don't know much about it. nor do I. But Im wanting to learn more. I just love the fact that I have more control of my computer [02:21] nigel_nb: yep! [02:22] chitchatcurtis: interesting, are they using it on servers or desktops? [02:22] I find it's kinda rare for companies to use it on desktops just yet, but there are a few popping up lately [02:24] desktop. mostly for oklahoma wild life. for hunting and fishing licenses. but it is good to see it go to that point [02:24] yeah, that's great :) [02:28] I have a boss that uses a laptop with fedora with a windows xp v machine so he can work on allen bradly plc's [02:31] I want to do the same with my laptop. Im the mill wright/ electrian, and I need to be able to trouble shoot the plcs from home [02:31] ah, is that an application that only runs on windows? [02:32] yes it is [02:32] xp pro [02:32] I've found that to be the biggest hurdle in getting businesses to adopt linux [02:32] one or two key apps that only run in windows and are vital [02:34] and I really don't understand that. If I had a company I would want to be more open to the world. It isn't just a windows and mac world anymore [02:35] I am hopeful that some companies are coming to that realization [02:36] Me too. I was never a real big fan of windows. But I was looking into getting a Mac till I was introduced to Ubuntu [02:37] Thank goodness [02:38] So what are your thoughts of Ubuntu vrs fedora? [02:39] don't have any really, I have very little experience with fedora [02:40] fedora (and redhat, centos) use the "rpm" package infrastructure, I've always preferred "deb" which debian and ubuntu use [02:41] me too but boss is pushing it. Im more into Ubuntu. From what I have learned ubuntu is a little more user friendly [02:42] I know a lot of fedora folks who would say the same about fedora, it might just come down to a personal preference [02:43] I bet your right. But the foundation is still linux:-D [02:43] yep :) [02:48] thank you for chatting with me. I guess that I need to go offline and get some sleep. 3 am comes early [02:48] sure thing, you too [02:48] take care [02:48] you too I will try to be here Monday === swoody_ is now known as swoody [10:34] hello to All, when i recompile a kernel, how do i use them on hardware identic other physikal Systems ? just copy them over and create Bootloader Menu ? [10:36] Hi Steel_ maybe it is an idea to ask your question here: #ubuntu-beginners, or #ubuntu? [10:37] /join #ubuntu-beginners [10:44] Thanks leoquant === doctormo__ is now known as doctormo === starcraft is now known as starcraftman [22:21] re: User Days, who was looking into using Lernid? nhandler mentioned it since it'll be ready for UDW just a couple days after UUD so we might actually be able to use it [22:22] pleia2, I did [22:22] pleia2, we need to create a server side config file and give jono [22:23] nigel_nb: are there instructions for that somewhere? [22:24] pleia2, getting that for ya [22:26] pleia2, do know how to generate an ical file? [22:26] nigel_nb: no, but I can learn [22:26] I dont know, I thought u knew [22:26] hehe [22:26] nigel_nb and pleia2: Google Calendar (and most calendar apps) can export an ical [22:27] Want me to make one? [22:27] nhandler: that'd be great :) [22:27] nhandler, oh, thanks [22:27] pleia2, https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lernid/LernidEvent [22:27] nigel_nb: thanks! [22:27] but the problem is, we can't we partial to lernid [22:27] the features are mind blowing [22:27] but only users there would be the sort of testers for lernid [22:28] yeah, I think we'd have to plan around it ahead of time, which there isn't time for now [22:28] Not really. They will be using it for UDW a few days later, so I see no problem with using some of its features for the User Day [22:28] nhandler, but slides option is too tempting [22:29] nigel_nb: Slides should simply supplement, they shouldn't be the full presentation [22:30] I'll try to work around Lernid, but using the features in lernid too [22:30] nhandler, where you there for Jono's test class? [22:30] nigel_nb: No. I couldn't make it [22:30] nhandler, it was mindblowing TBH [22:32] I missed his class... [22:32] would have liked to attend [22:32] Lernid crashed a few times for me [22:33] but once stable and working, I think we have a very good tool [22:33] cool [22:34] bbl -- wife is practicing her presentation... [22:45] Here is a basic ics version of the Ubuntu User Days calendar. http://paste.ubuntu.com/355225/ [22:49] Actually, just use this URL: http://www.google.com/calendar/ical/ht0cie6r0pao14j6c2ndv8d8d8%40group.calendar.google.com/public/basic.ics [22:49] nhandler, yeah, only the url is needed [22:50] If anyone prepares some slides for their presentation or if the schedule changes, poke me and I can update the calendar [22:51] thanks nhandler! [22:51] :) [22:51] nhandler, great :) [22:51] <_marx_> hum slides for command line basics... :) [22:52] <_marx_> actually one for midnight commander might be useful [22:53] I can also host the PDF files if people need some hosting [22:58] great [23:19] pleia2: did you ever talk to magicfab? [23:21] nhandler, I finally learned how to get the ical link ;) [23:28] cjohnston, did you do anything about lernid ? [23:28] about it? [23:29] cjohnston, I'm creating the config file.. okay with ya? [23:29] ya [23:30] k [23:35] nhandler, ping [23:39] nigel_nb: pong [23:39] nhandler, where do we put the .lernid server-side configuration file? any idea [23:40] jono is not clear on the wiki [23:40] nigel_nb: I believe you need to give it to Jono right now [23:40] nhandler, ah [23:40] cjohnston, are the start times and end times of the user day definite? [23:40] cjohnston, in that case, I can give jono the config file [23:41] nigel_nb: i dont know.. hellow may be backing out... but we now have magicfab who is offering, but seems his courses are already covered.. [23:43] cjohnston, hm, cutting 1 hour? [23:43] possible [23:43] dont know [23:44] trying to get more info from magicfab [23:44] see if he has something to cover that isnt already [23:44] let me know in a few [23:45] if u decide to shuffle its okay, just let nhandler know [23:45] if u cut hours, I have to know
