smoser_mathiaz, ping00:14
mathiazsmoser_: hey!00:14
lunaphytehi.  i have a server running 9.10.  i've installed a couple of things on it (openfire, ncidd) that i'd like to start at boot in the usual runlevels (2345).  traditional rc.d symlinks exist, but the services are not starting.  i've read a bit about upstart, which appears to perhaps be related in some way, but i'm not sure how to proceed.00:15

subi have vmware server 2.0 on 9.10, did you install the build-essential package? what's the exact error you get during compilation?03:04
mcarseI will have to run the compile again.. Something about Error 2, module failed to insert into running kernel03:06
submcarse: my first guess is that you might be missing kernel header files, but i'll wait till you confirm with the error message03:06
mcarseI have done the compile lots of other times on 9.04 without error, only have started having issues as of 9.10. I have installed build-essentials and linux-headers-server03:08

sublet's start with the error message03:09
sub:<03:09
mcarseI will have to run another upgrade to get the error again.03:10
ScottKThe reason I ask is that if you're on i386, you want -generic, not -server.03:10
mcarsewon't take long.03:10
subi typically do linux-headers-`uname -r`03:11

subno sorry, that's a revision number, hehe03:11
ScottKFor 9.10 there is no i386 server kernel03:11
mcarseI am was using 9.10 32bit03:14
mcarseI will re-upgrade the vm fromm 9.04 to 9.10 and check back.03:16
