dpmwe've noticed that there is a translation template for hamster-applet on the Karmic translations import queue on LP -> https://translations.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/karmic/+source/hamster-applet/+imports?field.filter_status=NEEDS_REVIEW&field.filter_extension=pot . Normally only translations for packages in main end up in the queue, but hamster-applet is in universe. Does anyone has any idea how that could have happened?12:56
matsubarahenninge, can you answer dpm's question ^?13:06

qenseI've got the feeling the last few accounts changing bug 422536 could be trolls or bots since all they do are worthless assignee/status changes, cluttering the page. Would that be enough to ban those accounts?14:22
ubottuLaunchpad bug 422536 in kerneloops "EDAC amd64: WARNING: ECC is NOT currently enabled by the BIOS. Module will NOT be loaded." [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/42253614:22
ScottKIt's also very easy to change those by accident now, so if that's the only evidence, I wouldn't think it adds up to much14:28
qenseTrue. Maybe we should get the possibility to lock bugs with many (Apport) duplicates to prevent users from accidentally changing bug info.14:30
qenseBecause this bug is now almost unreadable due to the many changes, and each time you have to look up if the changer is someone who knows what (s)he's doing or not.14:30

maxbqense: I don't think number of duplicates is a good metric. But yes, it would be great if something could be done. In particular, it would be nice to force users to read and agree to something before allowing them to change assignees15:07
qenseyeah15:07
matsubaramy experience on LP bugs is that leaving a comment after a status change or assignment is usually enough to keep people from madly changing the status/assignee again15:08
marsmatsubara, agreed.  Always put a rational.15:10
qenseyep15:10
marsI dislike it when people close or invalidate a bug you think is perfectly fine, without reason (and without them being the package maintainer, either...)15:10

AnAntHello, I have a question about translations. When a person adds a translation to a project on Launchpad, so the Last-Translator is set to the name of this person, now after this translation gets exported to bzr then imported back into Launchpad, launchpad changes the Last-Translator field to the project owner, why is that ?15:47
UrsinhaAnAnt: good question, danilos ^15:54
danilosAnAnt, it sounds like a problem somewhere, that's not what I would expect to happen15:59
danilosAnAnt, can you point me at an example of where's that happening?15:59
danilosAnAnt, i.e. project15:59
AnAntdanilos: hang on15:59
AnAntdanilos: monajat project, the translations are exported to: lp:~sabily.team/monajat/translations16:00
=== bigjools is now known as bigjools-otp
AnAntdanilos: if you look at the latest bzr log entry, there are translations which were done by cegerxwin, but in the last log entry the translator was changed to "Sabily Team"16:02
danilosAnAnt, looking16:03
AnAntdanilos: here's the translations page on LP: https://translations.launchpad.net/monajat16:03
AnAntplease note that I import those translations for the above mentioned bzr (which LP exports to), then those translations are imported again into LP16:04
danilosAnAnt, I know we had some issues when someone was using the same branch for import and export, but these are two distinct branches16:07
danilosAnAnt, however, I think this one is a pretty clear case16:08
danilosAnAnt, i.e. the way we recognize users in Last-Translator field is by email address; yet, on export, it seems we respect hide-email setting some users have16:08
danilosAnAnt, so, if we can't figure out the translator from the Last-Translator field, we use the uploader which is the branch owner in this case16:09
AnAntso that is two issues here, right ?16:09
AnAnt1. respecting hide-email setting in case of exporting a translation16:10
danilosAnAnt, this is basically bug 36284816:10
ubottuLaunchpad bug 362848 in rosetta "PO export with Last-Translator " <Unknown>" email address" [Wishlist,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/36284816:10
danilosAnAnt, only one, and that's the above16:11
AnAnt2. assuming a translator in case the translator doesn't have an account on LP ?16:11
danilosAnAnt, 2. is not a bug: a system such as this has to have someone responsible for the translation that was submitted; we can't just say "unknown person got this into system"16:11
AnAntdanilos: please imagine this case, I have an po file already submitted from someone who doesn't have an LP account (say by email), so I take this translation upstream, and it gets imported through LP. LP now will actually credit me (or the owner of bzr branch) for that translation.16:13
ScottKmatsubara-lunch: Is it possible to get http://launchpadlibrarian.net/38037380/kvirc_svn3831.tar.gz removed from the librarian.  It's a binary without source and thus a GPL violation.16:13
danilosAnAnt, it won't if you have the correct Last-Translator field, which you should16:14
danilosAnAnt, the problem is that LP exports PO files with incorrect Last-Translator because it respects "hide-my-email" setting in LP16:14
AnAntdanilos: ah, so the Last-Translator does not need to have an LP account ?16:14
AnAntdanilos: just a proper name <email> address format ?16:15
AnAntScottK: Hello16:15
danilosAnAnt, that's right16:15
ScottKHello AnAnt.16:15
AnAntdanilos: ok, thanks16:16
danilosAnAnt, you can track the above bug if you are interested about when will it get fixed, but we probably won't have time to work on it soon16:16
AnAntdanilos: ok, thanks16:16
danilosAnAnt, if you are interested in giving a hand (LP is open source :), I'd be happy to give a few pointers about where to start16:16
AnAntdanilos: what's the language ?16:17
danilosAnAnt, it's python (and Zope)16:18
AnAntdanilos: I'm interested to give it a try16:18
danilosAnAnt, I'd suggest starting at https://dev.launchpad.net/, and you can always find live help on #launchpad-dev16:19
Ursinhambarnett: do you know if what ScottK is asking is possible to do?16:19
danilosAnAnt, "Get the source code" and "Build and run Launchpad" should be good for a start, so you get a running local system to play with16:19
danilosAnAnt, I'll add specific pointers about what would need changing in the bug report16:19
AnAnterm, how much is the download ?16:21
mbarnettUrsinha: ScottK: i don't see anything there (No such resource)16:24

danilosAnAnt, I've added pointers to the bug 362848 as a comment, it could help you get started on this fix :)16:28
ubottuLaunchpad bug 362848 in rosetta "PO export with Last-Translator " <Unknown>" email address" [Wishlist,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/36284816:28
ScottKmbarnett: Is it automatically deleted when it's removed from the bug?16:30
ScottKIf so, that would explain it.  I thought such things stayed in the librarian.16:30
mbarnettScottK: i am not entirely sure, tbh16:31

johSo I've set up translations for my project in launchpad with one translation file. Is it possible to add new languages through launchpad or do I have to import empty .po files first?21:34
henningejoh: just start translating in that language21:35
henningejoh: you will only see those languages that you have configured as your preferred languages.21:35
johhenninge: Aha :-)21:36
henningejoh: once some translations exist in a language, you will see them in the template, of course21:36
henningejoh: so what I said about preferred languages is only true while there are no translations at all for a language.21:37
johhenninge: Ok, so if I'd like to add a French translation I have to set French as my preferred language?21:39
henningejoh: well, do you speak French?21:40
johhenninge: Partly :P21:40
henningejoh: I mean, do you do translations into French?21:40
johhenninge: Well, say Norwegian Nynorsk instead.21:40
johhenninge: Only Norwegian Bokmål is listed21:41
mwhudson_i don't think you have to set the language as preferred, do you?21:41
henningejoh: if you are able to translate to that language, set it as a preferred language.21:41
johhenninge: Where do I do that?21:41
henningejoh: hm, go to your own translations tab21:41
johhenninge: okay21:42
* henninge checks that21:42
johnow what? :P21:42
henningejoh: btw, I think it guesses bomal because you don't have a preferred language set.21:42
johhenninge: okay21:42
henningejoh: oh no, sorry, just go to your main homepage.21:43
henningejoh: You'll see the yellow edit icon next to languages.21:43
henningeclick on that21:43
johAha21:43
johThanks :) that was well hidden21:44
johAh awesome21:44
henningemwhudson_: yes, setting the preferred language is needed to easily start translations in that language.21:44
henningewithout hacking the URL21:44
henningejoh: why, is that yellow dot not easy to see ... ;-)21:45
henningejoh: Actually, I think we point to that in a couple of places if you don't have your languages set.21:45
johhenninge: Hehe yeah but I would assume there was a link to that page from Translations as well :)21:45
johhenninge: Would be a nice addition21:45
