ubuntuhi, im trying to install mythtv, but the graphical installer is not detecting my hard drives - they show up in gparted03:40
rhpot1991ubuntu: launch a terminal and run this: sudp apt-get remove dmraid03:40
rhpot1991then start the installer again03:40
rhpot1991you will need to be in the live cd environment for this, if you aren't there cancel the installation and it will throw you there03:41
ubuntuim running off a usb disk03:41
rhpot1991same applies03:41
ubuntuthanks, that worked03:42
rhpot1991np03:45
superm1rhpot1991, how'd you know it was dmraid issue?03:48
superm1and i wonder if there is a  better way for us to handle that kind of problem03:48
rhpot1991superm1: I hit it here03:49
rhpot1991its an amd64 iso issue IIRC03:49
rhpot1991effects all of ubuntu03:49
rhpot1991not just us03:49
superm1but not i386?03:49
rhpot1991I think its amd64 only, not positive03:49
rhpot1991superm1: gparted will see your drives but the partitioner doesn't03:49
rhpot1991so you remove that install and everything should be fine03:50
mrandthis should be in the "known issues" page03:50
rhpot1991mrand: I was just thinking we should doc it somewhere03:50
mrandhttp://www.mythbuntu.org/9.10/release03:50
Zinn[www.mythbuntu.org] Mythbuntu 9.10 Release Notes | Mythbuntu03:50
superm1is it on the ubuntu known issues page?03:50
rhpot1991superm1: I've seen people saying that setting AHCI (I might have the letters off) mode in the bios helps too, but it didn't help on any of my boxens03:51
mrandsuperm1: http://www.ubuntu.com/getubuntu/releasenotes/91003:51
Zinn[www.ubuntu.com] 9.10 Release Notes | Ubuntu03:51
mrandDon't know how often that is updated after the release occurs03:51
superm1not there03:51
superm1i've not heard anything about this to this point until tonight03:52
rhpot1991superm1: I also saw word indicating it may effect multiple disk systems more than singles03:52
rhpot1991I've seen it on both here though03:52
superm1BoT wins again btw03:54
rhpot1991superm1: every tuesday03:54
rhpot1991I've been disappointed in scrubs03:54
rhpot1991also I haven't watched yet03:54
superm1scrubs is just getting worse and worse every week03:54
rhpot1991superm1: do I have to revoke old pgp keys from the ubuntu key server?03:54
superm1rhpot1991, i dunno how that stuff is supposed to work03:56
superm1never had to do it03:56
rhpot1991superm1: I have one thats lost forever so I should look into it03:56
Guest40269hi, I'm now having problems getting my wireless card working in mythbuntu 0 iwconfig is not registering the card06:52
Guest40269the card is a d-link dwl-g51006:53
superm1Guest40269, best thing to start out with is checking dmesg for any errors about missing firmware07:02
superm1Guest40269, if that leads you nowhere, next figure out what driver is supposed to be supporting that card07:03
Guest40269dmesg | grep firmware returns nothing07:03
superm1it might not use the word firmware in the error07:04
superm1it might be saying "unable to find blah1243.fw" or something like that07:04
superm1so a cursory glance through for stuff like that would be a good idea still07:04
superm1https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WifiDocs/DWL-G51007:05
Zinn[help.ubuntu.com] WifiDocs/DWL-G510 - Community Ubuntu Documentation07:05
superm1so it sounds like mrv8k is the driver that is used for it07:05
superm1that's an old doc, so the driver might be decent these days07:06
Guest40269nothing obvious in dmesg, ill try that webpage07:06
john2Back after rebooting trying to get network card working - iwconfig now picks up the card - how do i connect to my network07:12

john2hey again - Im having problems getting a wireless card to connect to my network - wicd reports unable to get IP address and dmesg shows wlan0:AP denied assosciation (code=12) Tried google, only many mentions of bug, couldn't find a solution10:50

john23installing aproriate linux-backorts-modules appears to have fixed roblem11:31
jac1dGood day all.  I have a mythbuntu 9.10 install and I noticed last night that the schedulesdirect data isn't updating automatically.  I went in to the back end and couldn't find any settings in relation to it.  When I exited, it prompted me, as normal to update, which I did, but it is still not updating automatically over night.  Do I need to do something special to enable this?16:57
rhpot1991jac1d: thats in the frontend setup I believe17:11
rhpot1991setup > general > maybe 6 pages in17:11
rhpot1991see if its there otherwise I'll go poke17:12
jac1dOK thanks, I'll take a look17:16
jac1dbbiab17:16
darthanubiswhere is the startup script for the frontend where I put in the enable pulseaudio hack?17:19
darthanubiscan't believe this still has not made it into the fixes?17:20
darthanubisEXPERIMENTALLY_ALLOW_PULSE_AUDIO=117:22
darthanubiswhich file does that go in please?17:22
darthanubisnvrmind as usual thx17:26
LonEaglehow does mythbuntu 9.10 do sound?21:39
LonEaglesame as regular ubuntu 9.10? jackaudio?21:40
superm1LonEagle, alsa21:40
LonEagleso if i have no sound problems with the last release, i should have no sound problems with the new one21:42
LonEagleand as a bonus i'll end up with myth .2221:43
johnbergqvisthi guys, whenever i try to rebuild a seektable (im using mythbuntu x64 karmic with the 0.23 repository), it wont let me do it.21:43
johnbergqvistthis is what it gives me:21:43
johnbergqvist2010-01-20 21:37:09.117 Using runtime prefix = /usr21:43
johnbergqvist2010-01-20 21:37:09.117 Using configuration directory = /home/john/.mythtv21:43
johnbergqvist2010-01-20 21:37:09.117 Empty LocalHostName.21:43
johnbergqvist2010-01-20 21:37:09.122 New DB connection, total: 121:43
johnbergqvist2010-01-20 21:37:09.126 Closing DB connection named 'DBManager0'21:43
johnbergqvistmythcommflag: ERROR: Unable to find DB info for Alien: Directors Cut.mkv21:43
johnbergqvistQSqlDatabasePrivate::removeDatabase: connection 'DBManager0' is still in use, all queries will cease to work.21:43
johnbergqvistthe video must be in the database as mythvideo recognises and plays it fine21:43
rhpot1991johnbergqvist: I'm pretty sure there are only seektables for recordings21:45
johnbergqvistno, it works with videos cos ive tried it before. god knows why it doesnt work now21:46
mrandrhpot1991: I think if you run mythcommflag on anything, it'll build a seektable21:46
johnbergqvistthats the idea.21:47
rhpot1991mrand: that might be what I'm thinking of, videos don't get commflagged by default21:47
mrandrhpot1991: right.21:47
johnbergqvistwell i first tried it because the wiki said if your having problems seeking your videos, rebuild the seektable, i did it and it worked21:47
johnbergqvisti want to try it with another video and as ive said above, it doesnt work due to that error21:48
johnbergqvistalthough i did just do a mythfilldatabase and at the beginning it said 'closing DBManager0, so once thats done, it might work21:48
superm1LonEagle, correct21:50
LonEaglethough, i have not had any success with getting spdif audio out of this cheap soundcard i bought.  thought it was a no-brainer, but apparently i might need to buy a decent sound card for spdif.21:52
johnbergqvistIf i have a video with DTS audio, is it 5.1 or 7.1?21:53
johnbergqvistor whats it most likely to be?21:53
LonEaglei'm thinking 5.121:54
johnbergqvistcool21:54
johnbergqvistthanks21:54
johnbergqvistat the mo, can mythtv 0.23 downmix that to stereo?21:54
LonEaglewhat are you outputting audio to?21:55
LonEaglemy stereo downmixes everything21:55
superm1LonEagle, you dont need a decent sound card, it's just a pain in the ass to enable it on some cards21:55
Zinnsuperm1: Please watch your language.21:55
johnbergqvistmy speakers21:55
superm1LonEagle, there should be an IEC958 switch hopefully on the alsamixer settings that you can go toggle21:56
johnbergqvistthe video is in DTS, and i want to downmix it to stereo, for my speakers21:56
LonEaglesuperm1: i went to look for one and i didn't see it. this was several months ago, though.21:56
johnbergqvistand (i think) im using pulseaudio21:56
superm1LonEagle, drivers are always evolving.  there might be one now21:56
LonEagleit's true. maybe i will tell it to do the 9.10 update and look?21:57
johnbergqvistgrr its still not reseeking21:57
superm1LonEagle, you can boot off the live media and just look at the alsamixer there to tell too21:58
LonEagleah good my tv will force a 16:9 signal into pillarbox!21:58
LonEaglecomplete with chopping off the edges and not doing any other scaling!21:58
johnbergqvistah, sucess!21:59
johnbergqvisti tried --video instead of --file and it seems to be working!21:59
johnbergqvistnope, :( still isnt22:02
johnbergqvistoh well22:02
johnbergqvistthanks anyway22:02
LonEaglehmm, am i going to bring my computer to its knees doing high def deinterlacing?22:05
mrandLonEagle: depends on your CPU type & speed.  And there are different deinterlacers.  Only way to know is to try.  And then you can throw GPU offloading into the mix.22:13
LonEaglenot with my current config22:13
LonEagleonly a 7600GS.22:13
LonEaglewhich is xvmc capable, but i don't need xvmc.22:16
luckyonehello all23:26
luckyonequick question, if I wanted to switch from ubuntu to mythbuntu could I just apt-get install mythbuntu-desktop && apt-get purge ubuntu-desktop?23:28
luckyonewould it be easier to do that or just start from scratch?23:28
LonEaglei'd think the latter, but i'm no authority23:37
mrandno need to start from scratch.23:37
mrandyou don't even have to purge ubuntu-desktop23:37
mrandbut it's up to you.23:38
