DrunkMonkhey guys, thinking of setting up a mythbuntu box.. can you reccomend a good capture card, preferably one that can do HD?01:30
superm1DrunkMonk, have you already reviewed http://mythbuntu.org/requirements?01:31
Zinn[mythbuntu.org] System Requirements | Mythbuntu01:31
superm1a lot of us personally own silicon dust HD Home runs (which are mentioned on there)01:31
DrunkMonksuper01:42
DrunkMonkyes, i read the requirements01:42
DrunkMonkand I kind of stumbled from there onto a freesat walkthrough in which they mentioned WinTV Nova-HD-S201:43
DrunkMonkhowever, when I looked for that card on newegg.. or really.. anywhere.. i didnt get very far.. which is what lead me to you guys so that i could find out if there was a better alternative.01:45
superm1so the kicker with a lot of those cards is that you can only capture OTA or unencrypted QAM content01:47
superm1so if you want to capture say premium channels or anything else that your cable company is encrypting, you'll need an HDPVR which captures from your STB01:48
cal_how do i get mythbuntu to be controlled by the volume keys on my remote, rather than the OS controlling it directly? (ie, when i change volume, it works, but i dont see the volume indicator pop up on the mythtv screen)01:49
DrunkMonkgaaaahhhh.. man, well that pretty much kills it.. i was going to do dish network with this thing.. mainly some dish network HD..01:54
DrunkMonkit doesnt work if I hooked the output off my dish box to the card?01:54
superm1DrunkMonk, well so you can hook up your dish network STB  to the HDPVR01:56
superm1DrunkMonk, and things would work just dandy.  it grabs off the component output of the STB and encodes it into h264 files to spit back at the machine01:56
DrunkMonkok, so I can plug the component out of the dish network box into the capture card?02:00
superm1yeah, go google the device and it will make a lot more sense02:05
DrunkMonkso this thing isnt really a capture card as much as it is a capture device..02:13
mrandDrunkMonk: you referring to the HDPVR?  Yes, you are correct... it isn't a card that goes within the PC.02:20
DrunkMonkmaybe im looking at a different product then what was mentioned.. but I googled silicondust hdhomerun and it comes up with a physical box.. but definetley having issues finding info about going out from the box..02:25
mrandDrunkMonk: HDHomeRun from Silicondust sits on Ethernet02:28
mrandLots of people rave about that box.   As was mentioned above, it is for clear-channel (non-encrypted).02:28
DrunkMonkjust so im understanding.. from the satellite.. into the dish network receiver.. and from the dish network receiver into the back of the homerun HD? and it will record?02:33
mrandDrunkMonk: If you want to keep using your dish receiver, you want the HDPVR that superm mentioned above (not the HDhomerun)02:36

rhpot1991DrunkMonk: HDHR can only do clear qam and astc, so cable and antenna03:46
rhpot1991wont help you at all with a dish03:46
DrunkMonkreally.. i mean, im not coming directly from wall, to hdhr.. i would go from wall to dish network box, and out of the dish network box into the hdhr..04:07
DrunkMonkmaybe I dont quite understand yet, thanks for your guys` help tho04:07
mrandDrunkMonk: What we are saying is that the output of the dish network box is not "compatible" with the HDHR.   You need the HDPVR instead.04:13
DrunkMonkok, thanks for simplifying it for me04:29
DrunkMonki feel like a real dumbass..  ha, i thought you guys were saying I had to sign up for the HDPVR service or get a different dish network box, I understand now.04:39
DrunkMonkwould an HDMI capture card do the same thing?04:43
mrandDrunkMonk: there are only one or two HDMI capture devices, and they product very high bandwidth streams... and they are quite expensive.  And I've not seen anyone talking about getting one to work with mythtv.  no-one would advise you to go that route.04:46
DrunkMonkahhh.. very cool.. ok, so the down and dirty of this is the HDPVR is the way to go04:47
mrandDrunkMonk: assuming that your dish network box has component video outputs (which most do), yes, absolutely.04:57
=== ddunn is now known as dunnydann
DrunkMonkyea.. it has component out05:22
DrunkMonkits too bad the HDPVR doesnt do HDMI05:22
mrandDrunkMonk: Indeed.  There is all sorts of licensing that would go along with HDMI decoding (HDCP) that I would not be surprised if they had wanted to avoid.  While HDMI is probably slightly better, everyone appears to be very, very happy with the quality of component video.05:25
DrunkMonkyea, you knoe mrand.. i guess i kind of bought into the hype a bit..05:25
DrunkMonkim reading component can do 1080p..05:25
mrandyep05:25
DrunkMonkpretty rad.. i thought it was 720 only05:26
mrandOf course, much of the content out there is only 1080i rather than 1080p.05:26
mrandBut still better than standard def05:26
DrunkMonkright right05:26
DrunkMonkoh yea, definetley..05:26
DrunkMonki just got my first hdtv.. and im hooked.. i want everything in 108005:26
DrunkMonki currently pay for tivo.. so im trying to find a way to circumvent having a monthly fee to record what I already pay for05:27
mrandOuch - yeah, paying twice isn't much fun.05:28
mrand2 week scheduling for MythTV can be had for only $20 a year.05:28
mrand(in the US with schedules direct)05:28
DrunkMonkoh, see.. i thought it was all free as far as scheduling05:28
DrunkMonki thought it just downloaded the dish network schedule05:29
mrandDrunkMonk: that almost certainly be done, and I wouldn't be surprised if people have done it... but that type of thing is typically done using a web scraper (unless they have an xml or some other standardized scheduling feed that they provide).  Web scrapers tend to be unreliable.05:30
DrunkMonkahhh05:34
DrunkMonki see, man, i just setup an XBMC box..05:34
DrunkMonkim digging it.. I have a nvidia card.. so I can do the VDPAU05:35
DrunkMonkpretty rad too.. id love to join it with some dish network recording05:35
DrunkMonkdamn, that hdpvr is $200..05:35
ZinnDrunkMonk: Please watch your language.05:35
DrunkMonk?05:36
DrunkMonkwhat05:36
mrandI've not used it, but I've heard it has a very nice UI.  They have preliminary support for mythtv actually.05:36
mrandDrunkMonk: ignore Zinn... he's a bot.05:36
DrunkMonkoh, alright05:36
DrunkMonki was gonna say05:36
dunnydannDamn bots05:36
Zinndunnydann: Please watch your language.05:36
DrunkMonki hear worse on channel 7 news05:36
DrunkMonkha, oh05:36
dunnydann:)05:36
DrunkMonkit was between mediaportal and xbmc.. anyways.. im thinking pair the xbmc with some mythbuntu in a different room.. could be pretty cool05:38
dunnydannMythbuntu and boxee seem to run nice together05:41
dunnydannUse myth for cable/dvr and boxee for everything else05:42
lieuwehi, i mannaged to fubar the instalation somehow, the after-install wizzard hasn't run and now the system wont work...10:12

rhpot1991balachmar: so repair the broken table?21:41
rhpot1991you can do so in phpmyadmin, or in mythweb if its still accessible21:41
balachmarmythweb is accessible however it is unable to connect to the master backend at 127.0.0.1:654321:42
balachmarWill running the optimize script also work?21:43

senderhi all, i am looking for a plugin to convert recordings to a lighter format, e.g. DivX? Something like Export, but not targeted at mobile. Any ideas?23:56
foxbuntusender, export can be configured to anything you want23:57
foxbuntusender, the defaults are just setup for mobile devices23:57
senderfoxbuntu: thanx: would that be selecting a type of encoding?23:58
senderfoxbuntu: isn't mythtranscode the way? it seemed somewhat limited23:59
