=== monkeyboy_ is now known as meowbuntu [03:27] Question: I need help, Ardour says it can not start JACK.. does anyone have any insight into this? [03:29] Mediaprodigy, can you start JACK before starting Ardour? [03:29] either using qjackctl from the menu or typing jackd in a terminal? [03:30] ScottL: I will try [03:32] ScottL: typing jackd in the terminal gives me a long list of possible command [03:32] s* [03:32] have you ever gotten JACK running before? [03:34] if not try running qjackctl from the menu ubuntu studio icon -> audio/video -> audio -> jack control [03:34] and you will probably need to set it up; see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToJACKConfiguration [03:35] this is the first time that i ever use Ardour [03:35] you can also use audacity which has a lower learning curve [03:36] i am trying to get a project done.. which is time sensitive.. do you recommend starting with Audacity... vs Ardour.. i am new to UbuntuStudio as well [03:36] but i am proficient with teh computers [03:37] yeah, I would really suggest using Audacity then as Ardour is fairly complicated [03:37] unfortunately I am not very knowledgeable about Audacity [03:38] well that is great. [03:38] jk [03:38] ScottL: thank you [03:38] however, here is a tutorial for Audacity: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/tutorials.html [03:38] :) [03:38] Ok, looks like I will be doing some reading.. [03:39] from what i've seen it looks pretty straightforward (the manual, I mean) [03:39] ScottL: my first project is pretty straight forward.. taking a pre-existing song.. putting new vocals on it. [03:40] oh good, that should be fairly straight forward [03:40] import your song: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/tutorial_basics_3.html [03:40] record new vocals: http://audacity.sourceforge.net/manual-1.2/tutorial_basics_4.html [03:42] nice: this is going to be good help.. hope that i can move up to Ardour.. [03:44] Ardour is very powerful but does have a learning curve as I mentioned...really amazing piece of open source software [03:45] i do not want the vocals to not have any depth.. [03:57] adding 25 milliseconds (I think) of delay can fatten up vocals, but I'm not really a mixer or mastering type of guy === skrzat is now known as kosmos [19:23] I am trying to get Ubuntu 9.10 to use my wireless card. How do I enable the wireless interface? [19:24] network manager is not installed by default on Ubuntu Studio [19:24] that at least is my understanding [19:25] you may install it and use it though (it is even included on the Ubuntu Studio disk - just not installed) [19:25] do I install that via the Ubuntu software center? [19:25] I believe you can Guest8455 [19:25] thanks! [19:26] I found it in the software center searching for network manager...good luck! [19:26] thanks [20:46] Can someone help me, I am using Audacity and it tells me that FFmpeg was not found, going to terminal and typing FFmpeg returns the version currently installed.. what am i doing wrong? [20:50] Mediaprodigy, are you trying to import a file into Audacity? [20:51] Yes [20:51] hey ScottL: that is what I am trying to do.. [20:51] Was about to start meh project [20:52] mp3? [20:53] Mediaprodigy, I believe that Audacity might be trying to use ffmpeg to convert the file, but it might be that the version of Audacity was built against ffmpeg [20:54] again, i don't really use Audacity so I'm guessing [20:54] you might try downloading Sound Coverter using software center and perhaps convert to an .ogg file which Audacity shouldn't have any trouble with [20:54] but i'm just guessing though, but it's what I would try [20:59] .. [21:00] ScottL: I am going to try that.. does that not come with ubuntustudio standard? [21:01] sound converter? hmmm, i'm guessing not [21:20] I am converting the sound. === jussi01 is now known as Guest98536 === eviljussi01 is now known as Guest40163
