ubuntusomone know of any graphical ubuntu application to write Floppy images?17:47
=== ubuntu is now known as bittin
charlie-tcabittin: once you mount them, you can use thunar just like with any other drive, AFAIR17:57
bittin:o and that unpacks the image etc etc?17:58
charlie-tcaunpack? a floppy should be just another disk formatted in fat16 or fat32, isn't it?17:59
charlie-tcaor any other fs you format it too17:59
bittinyea but i downloaded an image of DOS 7.117:59
bittinhow do i write it to a floppydisk?17:59
charlie-tcaimage as in iso image?17:59
bittinthe readme says winimage are it something like that out for Linux18:00
bittincharlie-tca, yes18:00
charlie-tcaburn it to a cd, then copy it to the floppy, I would guess18:00
charlie-tcaor try burn to floppy, if it is available when you right click the image18:00
bittin*facepalm*18:01
charlie-tcaWhen I click an iso, I can "open with brasero", then I should be able to tell brasero which device to use18:02
bittincharlie-tca, Brasero can't use Floppy drives :(18:02
charlie-tcaOh! well, burn it to the cd, then?18:03
* charlie-tca knows lucid can't burn at all18:03
bittinbut the computer dosen't want to boot cds18:03
charlie-tcaburn to cd, copy to floppy?18:03
charlie-tcaor use k3b, maybe18:04
charlie-tcaNot sure what will burn to floppy, now. They tell me lucid is trying to find floppy image on every boot now.18:04
charlie-tcaeven when there is no floppy controller present18:05
bittini tried dd now will see if it works if it does i will write floppy #2 :)18:06

vinnlRight-click it, Add new item, Launcher :)19:24

vinnlxfce4-terminal, also launched by /usr/bin/Terminal19:26
tvaughn/usr/bin/tty?19:27
tvaughnthere is no terminal19:27
tvaughntheres an xterm19:27
vinnlHmm, odd, but /usr/share/xfce4-terminal should be there I suppose19:27

vinnlOh sorry I mean /usr/bin/xfce4-terminal19:29
tvaughngot it19:29
tvaughn:)19:29
blip-hi, I just upgraded to xubuntu 9.10.   When I have xfce4-power-manager running, it makes the laptop brightness go up and down in steps of 2..... such that I only have 3 brightness settings.     If I kill the xfce power manager then the brightness controls are back to normal (but of course no OSD).   any ideas why this happens ?    gnome-power-manager doesn't have this problem19:30
`mOOse`guys, how do I pin an app to the status bar?19:48
`mOOse`or menu bar - whatever you call it19:48
vinnl`mOOse`, you mean to just have its icon on the panel?19:48
`mOOse`yea19:49
`mOOse`you know, like firefox and19:49
vinnlRight-click an empty part of the panel, select Add new item, then Launcher19:49
`mOOse`"places" do out of the box19:49
`mOOse`ok19:49
vinnl(This will be easier in the next version of the panel)19:49
`mOOse`I'm wanting to put terminal up there - do I have to add a command to the Command line? Or do I just want to click the Run In Terminal box?19:51
vinnlNo, you want to enter "xfce4-terminal"19:51
`mOOse`sorry - I know this is pretty elementary19:51
`mOOse`oh...ok19:51
vinnlNo, it's more complicated than it should be19:52
tvaughnvinnl: i thought it was too complicated19:52
vinnlI understand, it is :) Nick Schermer, the developer, has already written the functionality to be able to drag items from e.g. the menu onto the panel, so when the next version of Xfce is released it'll be easier :)19:53
`mOOse`ok, that puts it on the right side of the bar - any way to coax it over to the left where the other apps are?19:53
vinnl`mOOse`, right click it, select Move19:53
`mOOse`I did - it stubbornly ignores me19:53
tvaughnvinnl: i have another suggestion19:54
tvaughnadd the ability to right click the icons in the application menu and add to panel19:55
tvaughngnome does that19:55
`mOOse`yes19:55
`mOOse`yes!!19:55
vinnl`mOOse`, hmm, that's odd... Can you click Move or is it greyed out?19:55
tvaughngnomes a piece of crap tho19:55
vinnltvaughn, I'm not a developer so I can't make that into reality :) But you could file that against xfce4-panel in Xfce's bug tracker19:55
vinnlUnfortunately the panel's developer just announced he's taking a break from Xfce development, IIRC19:56
Psilocybin_ElfYucky Gnome!19:56
* Psilocybin_Elf agrees that would be a good feature though...19:56
`mOOse`no, I can click move alright - it greys out the whole bar though19:56
tvaughn`mOOse`: its supposed to do that19:57
vinnlYeah I believe you should be able to drag it after that19:57
tvaughnbrb19:57
`mOOse`I just clicked the "freely moveable" box in the panel properties and that just made it go crazy - all my apps windows got larger and ocluded the panel somewhat...then when I re-clicked the box it put the panel on the bottom of the screen bar19:58
`mOOse`now that panel's on the bottom of my screen mixed with my apps icons19:58
`mOOse`hehe19:58
vinnlOh haha19:59
`mOOse`ack - I can't move it back20:00
=== Sememmon_ is now known as Sememmon
vinnlYou have to do that in the panel properties, I suppose20:00
`mOOse`haha - no - I was trying to move it by using the move function - all I had to do was left-click on it and move it20:01
vinnlThe panel?20:01
`mOOse`yea20:01
vinnlAh cool20:01
`mOOse`yes, thank gof20:02
`mOOse`d20:02
`mOOse`that would have driven me spastic20:02
vinnlBut to make it sit in a fixed position again you'll need the properties, IIRC20:02
`mOOse`k20:02
`mOOse`ooohh kaaay...I think I understand now20:03
`mOOse`there's a panel 1 and panel 220:03
`mOOse`they refer to top and bottom?20:03
`mOOse`yes?20:03
vinnlWell, there's just two panels named 1 and 2, and one happens to be situated at the top and one at the bottom20:05
vinnlYou could, if you wanted (which you probably don't :P) add some more panels and have multiple panels at the top, for example ;-)20:05
`mOOse`ok, and they each have different settings choices20:05
vinnlYes20:05
`mOOse`which is confusing me :-)20:05
`mOOse`now I can't seem to get the top one to stretch across the whole desktop20:05
vinnlYeah it's a bit of a power user feature but nice to have, and mostly isn't in the way unless you click it accidentally20:06
`mOOse`it's just slightly bigger than the icons that are in it20:06
`mOOse`I don't mind panels! I'd just like to understand their behavior first though :-)20:06
`mOOse`man I'm really really liking this DE20:07
vinnlI'm trying to find out what the setting was named to restore that behaviour :)20:07
`mOOse`after gnome and kde this is such a pleasure20:07
vinnlAh, here, you need the drop-down menu next to the selection of the position20:07
`mOOse`well thanks for it if/when you remember20:07
vinnlSee this screenshot: http://www.23hq.com/Vincentt/photo/287276420:07
`mOOse`ok20:07
vinnlIt's the "Full Width" part :)20:07
`mOOse`whoa... somehow I managed to get the top panel BEHIND the bottom panel!20:10
vinnlxD20:10
`mOOse`if I make panel 1 freely moveable I can get it up to the top and stay there, but as soon as I click the fixed position to get to the normal width/full width button, it pops back down to the bottom of the screen again20:14
vinnlYeah then you have to select its positions with the button to the left of that drop-down menu, I presume20:15
`mOOse`sorry - had a drive-by conversation here - yes that worked lol20:20
`mOOse`thanks20:20
`mOOse`that never occurred to me20:20
`mOOse`and that's probably why I can't move that terminal icon because the panel's stretched across the whole top of the screen and it snaps to the left or right depending...20:21
`mOOse`makes sense, sorta20:22
vinnlIt might also be that the terminal icons is locked :)20:22
vinnlRight click it to unlock it :)20:22
`mOOse`hmm20:22
`mOOse`when I click on it, it just gives me the panel menu20:23
`mOOse`ok, now I got the launcher20:24
`mOOse`no choices in there to lock/unlock20:24
vinnlI believe "Locked" was just an entry in the right-click menu of a launcher20:24
`mOOse`when I right click on the icon the menu comes up for the panel and the launcher entry is at the top of that menu, but it's greyed out20:25
`mOOse`I think I'm nuking my xp/win7 dual boot and installing xubuntu and win7 on here20:28
vinnlOh OK, then perhaps I'm wrong about any lock functionality20:29
`mOOse`I can't seem to figure it out (no surprise there)20:29
homebrewciderHi there, I have a fresh installation of Xubuntu 9.10. Auto login fails every time and I get taken to a manual login screen. It takes usually between 4 and 8 attempts to login using my user name and password. How can I check the cause of the problem. I'm assuming there's a log somewhere but don't know what to look for.22:04
