ubottuUbuntu bug 516555 in checkbox "Checkbox (System Testing) bypass Audio tests sometimes" [Undecided,New]08:01
Viper1432Damascene,  when did you have problems with this?  very recently?  I did the system tests two days ago and no issues in that area.08:03
kermiacroughly how often does it bypass the audio tests?08:04
Damascenetry to chose previous after you do some tests08:05
Damascenethen try to test again it will pass the audio test I guess08:05
* kermiac has a look\\08:05
DamasceneViper1432, I'm having it now08:07
Viper1432Will check that one tomorrow.  Its almost close the bloodshot eyes time over here.  :)08:08
Damascenekermiac, did you test that?08:10
kermiacok, that's strange08:11
kermiacwhen I skipped back through the tests it was ok...08:11
kermiacbut skipping all the way back to the start & then hitting skip bypasses all sound tests08:12
kermiacdo we know if this is by design? i.e. it skips the audio tests as checkbox believes they have already been performed08:12
kermiacwhen it skipped the audio tests I was able to select previous & cycle through the sound tests again08:14
Viper1432seems an odd design if so, imho, going back should reset the actions so that each step is available again.08:14
DanaGhmm, ubuntu's plymouth theme needs some work: there's no indication of whether the system is even alive!08:15

Machtinhi guys.. i really need help with this problem: while booting i have to alt+print+k to get to a shell, because otherwise the system hangs.. no clue why, but hey - it's alpha.10:06
Machtinwhen i do startx (start kdm won't work either) i have my graphical surface.. but i have no clue how to get my hostname resolving working..10:06
Machtini can build connections via ips, but not via hostnames..10:07
Machtinand this is the question: how can i make it work again?10:08
kermiacMachtin: try removing the "quiet" option from your boot options10:12
kermiacbah, don't remember the correct terminology10:12
Machtini know what you mean10:13
Machtindidn't seem to help though, when i tried that10:13
Machtinor do you just want me to see more output?10:14
alex88good morning, i've installed lucid, but after updates, nvidia drivers, the screen shows a small black line on the top, and i can't do anything.. any clue?10:14
alex88i've tried to uninstall drivers with recovery mode but it doesn't change anything10:15
kermiacMachtin: to see where it hangs.... also other have had more luck with "acpi=off" switch10:17
kermiacother/other people (missed a word, lol)10:17
Machtincan i somehow change that from within my system?10:18
Machtinbecause i don't like the quiet option anyway.. but grub.cfg seems to be read only.. i don't know whether i'm supposed to edit it10:18
kermiacif you hold shift during boot (possibly has to be left shift) then highlight your current kernel & press "e" you can add or remove boot options/switchs10:19
Machtini have 10s timeout.. i just need e :)10:20
Machtinjust thought i could change it permanentely10:20
kermiacthen you need to press "b" to boot using the modified  boot parameters.10:20
kermiacyes, you can but I forget how :(10:20
Machtinctrl+x actually, it's grub 2 :/10:20
* kermiac is still a grub2 n00b10:21

kermiachang on, i'll try to dig up the info on how to do it permanantly - but you may want to test it first to see if it works10:22
Machtinthanks! i will.. but for now i'd rather like to know where to set my dns-server10:23
=== om26er_ is now known as om26er

coz_ZykoticK9,  absolutely not :)  I am not and will never be a big fan of openjdk13:37
coz_ZykoticK9,  the ONLY reason I started on ubuntu years ago from BeOs is that I could install sun java13:38
coz_other wise I would still be on Be :)13:38
ZykoticK9coz_, ya - i don't understand why they removed Sun's java, doesn't make sense to me...13:38
coz_ZykoticK9,   hopefully there will be a repository for it... otherwise  I guess manual install....13:39

ZykoticK9coz_, i'm just trying to compare Haiku vs Lucid and for me there is NO contest there at all13:41

arvind_khadrimetricpiano, just reopen that bug, and change the package version18:28
arvind_khadrisorry i mean ubuntu's version18:29
billybigriggerhah, since when was a wireless connection to my router faster at sending files than wired????18:30
billybigrigger2.7MB/sec with my wireless card, and 1.3MB/sec over ethernet18:30
billybigriggersending the same file18:31
metricpianoI can change the status from triaged to something else, and I don't see reopen or anywhere to change the package18:32
yofelmetricpiano: the proper channel for that would be #ubuntu-bugs, you should mark the bug as affecting you and maybe it would be a good idea to set the upstream task to 'Confirmed'18:38
yofelleave the ubuntu task as 'triaged'18:38
metricpianoyofel: thanks, i made a comment in launchpad but I'll see if #ubuntu-bugs wants me to to provide anything else.18:40
yofelmetricpiano: you didn't set the bug as affecting you18:40
yofelmetricpiano: also: the bug IS triaged in lucid as lucid has the same version as karmic. It's just not fixed yet18:41
metricpianoyofel: I guess I dont' understand what triaged means then... triaged means it won't crash/destroy system, fixed means it will actually work?18:44
yofelno, triaged means: Bug ready to be looked at by a developer18:44
yofelso all information that is needed to work on the bug is there18:45
yofelin *this* case it means the developers were informed of the bug18:45
yofelno it's their job to take care of it18:45
yofelmetricpiano: that's why it might be a good idea to set the upstream status to confirmed18:46
yofel(where it says 'New' right now)18:46
metricpianoso I changed "New" to "confirmed"... this is "changing the upstream status to confirmed"18:47
metricpiano?18:47
yofelyes, the first bug task is for the 'Simple Backup' Project while the second one is for the package in Ubuntu. When a Project task exists the status should be tracked there18:48
metricpianoOK, thanks... I want to help by reporting but I don't want to add a bunch of chaff or misinformation and I'm not really clear on the whole launchpad thing (obviously)18:52
NateWDid a recent update in lucid and now if i press enter, either the normal key or the one on the keypad, my computer will completely lock up. If i press enter on a virtual keyboard such as onboard, no issues.19:39
NateWanyone have an idea as to why [Enter] may cause ubuntu to freeze?19:44
CosmiChaosleft or right (numpad)?19:45
NateWCosmiChaos: both do the same thing, using onboard is the only way i am able to press enter19:46
CosmiChaoswhat do you mean by onboard?19:47
NateW(virtual keyboard included with ubuntu)19:48
CosmiChaosah i got an idea- on-screen-leyboard19:48
CosmiChaosNateW, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/51641219:49
ubottuUbuntu bug 516412 in plymouth "Pressing <Enter> causes X to freeze" [High,Confirmed]19:49
NateWhappened again, had to reboot.. onboard is the virtual keyboard.. and thanks for the bug forward19:50
CosmiChaoscan that be what you reffering to? (same behaviour=)19:50
NateWseems to be.. im going to try the workaround they suggest and see what happens19:51
CosmiChaosdoes anyone got plymouth showing bootlogo with nvidia-hardware on nouveau driver?19:52
NateWCosmiChaos: awesome.. that is it. thanks for your help19:52
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, it's working here19:52
CosmiChaoswell i just google enter ubuntu lucid freeze :)19:53
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, sorry no - i'm not using nouveau - sorry19:53
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, what is your exact hardware please?19:53
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, you have plymouth showing bootlogo WITHOUT nouveau? how did you do that?19:53
NateW CosmiChaos: true, should have tried that :P19:53
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, including the blue scroll bar19:54
CosmiChaosNateW, well i had to follow a bug dublicate but that was it19:54
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, see i have the kernel mode line "quiet splash" in /etc/grub/default and i run nvidia hardware19:54
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, while booting i only see console text smashing down the screen19:55
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, so i installed the nouveau stuff and once it worked after an distupgrade19:56
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, on the 2nd or 3rd i install Nvidia using the Jockey interface and I have almost no issues with Nvidia (although now i do typically have to alt+sysrq+k on first attempt of GDM)19:56
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, but now its broke again and i have no idea how to get a bootlogo back at all19:56
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, nor do i - haven't had issues with it, so haven't had to "look" at it...  best of luck19:57
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, see i refer the bootlogo splash of plymouth, not gdm login designthemes19:57
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, the Ubuntu logo19:57
CosmiChaosyes19:57
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, and that weird blue scroll just prior to GDM19:57
CosmiChaosi guess thats the new performance monitoring19:58
apo_laphi19:58
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, i'm actually going to reboot now and have a look, hopefully i'll brb ;)19:58
CosmiChaosbut for me its tri-color, dark blue, light blue and white19:58
apo_lapdo you know if it works to remove hal from a kubuntu lucid install?19:58
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, ya - same here19:58
apo_lapit has still many dependencies19:59
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, first time it took very long but after that it quickly boots19:59
CosmiChaosapo_lap, isnt hal removed in lucid by default?20:00
apo_lapdont know, i use an updated system from jaunty-karmic-lucid20:00
apo_lapso it should work to remove hal?20:00
CosmiChaoswhen you upgrade to alpha, you are definetly on a alpha no matter if you upgraded from previous version or installed from scratch apo_lap20:01
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, ok - so ONLY get the blue thing - no Ubuntu logo, sorry if i misled you at all20:02
CosmiChaosit should have removed hal during upgrade, doesnt it?20:02
apo_lapi didnt get you i think. i wonder if i might ran into problems when i remove hal. right now itsd instzalled and running20:02
apo_lapah, okay20:02
apo_lapno it didnt for me20:02
apo_lapperhaps its realted to KDE?20:03
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, lets get more company :)20:05
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, i don't get up???20:05
ZykoticK9s/up/it20:05
CosmiChaoshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeKKIifkZYk - 17 Sec - Plymouth-Splash, through KMS (nouveau). I definetly saw it working on my mashine, several times.20:08
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, at one time or another i believe i had that ubuntu logo as well20:10
CosmiChaostry that, does it work? sudo plymouth --show-splash20:10
CosmiChaosrun "sudo plymouthd" before20:11
blueyedDoes "sudo invoke-rc.d networking restart" work for you? It does not come up for me again.. bug 511753 - how can I temporarily disable networking and get it up again?20:11
ubottuLaunchpad bug 511753 in netbase "Lucid: "invoke-rc.d networking restart" fails to bring network up again" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/51175320:11
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, to stop it if it works run: "sudo killall plymouthd"20:12
crimsunblueyed: that isn't sufficient,as the new semantics involve restarting network-manager as well20:12
CosmiChaosZykoticK9, https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/plymouth/+bug/50932820:13
ubottuUbuntu bug 509328 in plymouth "Lucid Alpha2: Plymouth does not work with the current nvidia driver (dup-of: 506717)" [Medium,Confirmed]20:13
ubottuUbuntu bug 506717 in plymouth "[Lucid] plymouth does not display when using nvidia drivers" [High,Fix released]20:13
blueyedcrimsun: I have no network-manager running.. so, how is a restart possible?20:13
crimsunblueyed: oh, so you removed it completely? (or disabled)20:14
blueyedcrimsun: guess so, since I don't need it.20:14
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, so plymouthd is running but "sudo plymouth --show-splash" doesn't do anything (should i be rebooting?) http://paste.ubuntu.com/372708/20:14
crimsunblueyed: please attach your interfaces(5) to that report20:15
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, oops so perhaps plymouthd is NOT running!  duhh20:15
crimsun(sanitised as necessary, of course)20:15
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, ok NOW i can say plymouthd IS running and --show-splash does nothing20:16
CosmiChaossearch synaptic for nouveau and install related packages, ill check if the feature works on generic (because i run PREEMPT)20:18
blueyedcrimsun: I've updated the description - very basic IMHO. I could attach the output of the restart action as well, but that would require another reboot afterwards probably.20:19
ZykoticK9CosmiChaos, sorry man, i'm not touching my proprietary Nvidia right now (it's working too well) and certain vocal members of this channel scare me away from messing with Nvidia right now20:19
bjsniderwhich vocal members?20:21
ZykoticK9i'm not going to mention any name (not you bjsnider, if that's what your wondering)20:21
bjsnideri'm not wandering, i'm sitting down20:23
BluesKajZykoticK9, I'm still annoyed that kde isn't keeping up with proper plugins for linux browsers to play video content other than flash it seems ...I have all the proper plugins for the video on nasa.gov , but they don't load20:23
BluesKajwith gnome these sites work well20:24
ZykoticK9BluesKaj, i haven't used KDE in years - you've just given me another reason not to return ;)  Good luck man20:25
ZykoticK9BluesKaj, just ya - nasa.gov seems to be working ok for me - gnome/chrome20:26
ZykoticK9watching some boring clip right now...20:26
ZykoticK9the launch from the other night would be cool - gonna search for it20:27
BluesKajit's there20:28
ZykoticK9watching it :)20:28
BluesKajnasa.gov/home20:28
crimsunblueyed: will look later tonight; busy with another source ATM20:31
apo_lapuhm, re. i just removed hal. now KDE sees no battery and ac. powermanagement backend is still set to hal. where is my mistake? is there a new backend to install?20:37
bjsniderfinished building vlc with vaapi acceleration20:51
bjsniderit works but it's not as efficient as "pure" vdpau20:51
bjsniderstill, it's better to have it than to not have it20:52
phoenixzIm running Kubuntu Lucid 10.04, aplha2, out of necesity (9.04 and 9.10 DON'T work on my laptop).. all works very very great, kudos for KDE! Only problem I have is that my auto hiding taskbar, well.. For some reason it stays in hiding, I cant get it to show up anymore.. Is there a way I force the taskbar to show up again? Maybe using DCOP or something?20:55
marienzis it intentional that I can't drag windows to a different workspace (by dragging "through" the edge of the screen) in compiz?20:58
apo_lapuhm, re. i just removed hal. now KDE sees no battery and ac. powermanagement backend is still set to hal. where is my mistake? is there a new backend to install?21:07
BookmanAnyone know if there is a problem with the Wicd network manager recently, like after yesterdays updates?  I cannot connect via wired or wireless anymore.22:59
YorvikBookman: I was about to ask the same question23:02
BookmanYorvik, Oh great then there must be an issue.23:03
YorvikBookman:  Can’t believe we’re the only two though23:04
Bookmanmaybe the rest don't have an alternative computer to be able to get on the network!23:05
charlie-tcaI use static ip's without any network manager23:05
* charlie-tca and on desktops23:05
Bookmancharlie-tca, this is for a laptop.  Wireless23:06
YorvikI got round it on the desktop by using static IP23:06
BookmanI will try that on my laptop wired, then see if there are any more current updates.23:08
YorvikI only updated this machine an hour ago23:09
Volkodavanybody noticed X freeze hitting Enter after command &23:16
charlie-tcaI have avoided that bug, but it seems popular right now.23:17
Volkodavanybody?23:20
BookmanOk, setting static worked on the laptop for a wired connection.  I updated and rebooted but still no wireless connection.  Wicd gets stuck trying to obtain an IP address.  It sees the router but cannot connect to it.  I guess that laptop is out of commission until fixed sometime in the future.23:23
infectoBookman: maybe you have been added smth in /etc/network/interfaces manualy?23:24
Bookmaninfecto, it worked yesterday23:25
infectoah, so. Ok.23:25
YorvikBookman:  That’s the problem - can’t obtain IP address23:33
BookmanYorvik, seems to be.23:34
BluesKajseems to be a common problem wicd in lucid23:36
BookmanYeah, I'd file a bug in launchpad, but I've never figured out how to do one manually.23:38
BluesKajwell, karmic too for that matter23:39
YorvikBookman:  against what?23:40
BookmanYorvik, That is the whole problem!  I have no idea where/how/what to file.23:41
BookmanI'm just reading the documentation now....23:41
Yorvikdhcp3-client  was upgraded  (3.1.3-1ubuntu3, 3.1.3-2ubuntu1)23:43
charlie-tcaBookman: here is a pretty good template to use to file manually - https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Testing/Bug-Report-Layout23:44
Yorvikdhcp3-common was also upgraded (3.1.3-1ubuntu3, 3.1.3-2ubuntu1)23:44
charlie-tcaYou could report it against 'wicd' as the source package23:45
Bookmancharlie-tca, yes, I'm there now.23:49
YorvikBookman: It’s working again for me there has been another upgrade to dhcop-client and dhcp-common23:57
BluesKajYorvik, laptop or /23:58
BluesKaj?23:58
YorvikDesktop23:59
BluesKajwicd with wifi Yorvik ?23:59
