ablomenSoul_Shadow, xmms has not been updated since 1924, so there are more and more bugs getting in there with new libs etc15:42
Soul_Shadowand it runs best with broadwave15:42
Soul_ShadowNEVER had issues with xmms15:43
eXpl0i7soul try sudo apt-get install audacious :) it's like a winamp15:43
ablomenaudacious is spawned from it15:43
ablomen"Its advanced audio playback engine is considerably more powerful than GStreamer. Audacious is a fork of Beep Media Player (BMP), which itself forked from XMMS"15:43
Soul_ShadowIf I can get this rpm open I can install winamp :P15:43
Soul_Shadowknow what the rpm extractor/converter package is named15:44

rcscompdon't think so, but fschk isn't a command in busybox anyway16:14
Soul_Shadowthen goto #busybox cus I do nto use it16:14
bazhangwinamp does not run on linux unless you mean via wine16:15
Soul_Shadowcan you boot into command prompt?16:15
Soul_ShadowBaz it has run on linux I had it before..16:15
rcscompwell, I have a command prompt, but its the initramfs/busybox prompt which is what you get when the kernel can't load the root file system (or so it appears)16:16
Soul_Shadowthen tell it to reboot16:16

`mOOse`is there a command list of some kind?16:49
`mOOse`ok16:49
`mOOse` thanks16:49
bazhangthats it :)16:49
bazhangfactoids.cgi one16:50
eXpl0i7how to open .sqlite file? mozilla cookie file...some application or something else?16:50
vinnlHmm, perhaps Openoffice.org Base can do that16:51
eXpl0i7vinnl: i tryed16:51
eXpl0i7no16:51
eXpl0i7in windows can be opened with notepad xD16:51
vinnlYou can, btw, view cookies in Firefox16:51
Soul_Shadowscrew fstab can I just automunt using the shortcut &  also put thunar /mnt/ntfs/ after the mount -a command?16:51
eXpl0i7how?16:51
vinnlOh, then I suppose mousepad can do it as well16:51
vinnlLet me see16:51
Soul_Shadowok what I miss16:52
eXpl0i7mousepad, gedit....no16:52
`mOOse`in order for your ntfs to mount at boot you need to edit your fstab16:52
vinnleXpl0i7, Edit->Preferences, Remove Individual Cookies16:52
eXpl0i7no to remove16:52
`mOOse`!fstab16:52
ubottuThe /etc/fstab file indicates how drive partitions are to be used or otherwise integrated into the file system. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Fstab and http://www.tuxfiles.org/linuxhelp/fstab.html and !Partitions16:52
`mOOse`you'd really do to read those Soul_Shadow16:53
Soul_Shadowwell can I jsut put the mount command in launcher & have it also open that dir?16:53
eXpl0i7vinnl: open cookie for reading16:53
vinnleXpl0i7, you can also view them there16:53
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: sure, write a text file with #!/bin/bash in the first line and the required commands in next lines, and give it a x (execute) permission16:53
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: then when you run it, it will execute those commands16:53
Soul_ShadowI used the fstab & editied it correctly & still did not load16:53
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: any errors in dmesg?16:54
eXpl0i7vinnl: tnx :)16:54
vinnlyw :)16:54
Soul_Shadowthats why I am asking if I can put the sudo mount -a command in the launcher shortcut & also add thunar /mnt/ntfs/ to open the dir16:54
Soul_Shadownone asked for a password on start16:54
Soul_Shadow*desktop open* aka start*16:55
`mOOse`if you sudo mount -a and it doesn't mount then you have a syntax or other error in your fstab16:55
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: 'mount -a' is ran at computer startup, it won't ask for password because it is being run as root already16:56
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: if it worked from terminal, it should work at startup too16:56
Soul_Shadowhhhmmm... you are dodging my other question... CAN I use the launcher shortcut to mount it when I want to & open the mounted dir?16:58
Soul_ShadowI know puppy linux does it but not sure of the command structure to do it16:58
TheSheepSoul_Shadow: I answered your other question already, maybe you should also read what we write :)16:59
Soul_Shadowand I quoted screw fstab :P I am trying to get it mounted via launcher..16:59
Soul_ShadowMy command is this: sudo mount -a -t /dev/sda1/ ntfs /mnt/ntfs/  Now can I use a | or do I need a ; to continue another command efter this?17:01
TheSheepit's wrong17:02
Soul_Shadowafter*17:02
TheSheepmount -a doesn't take any other argumkents17:02
TheSheeparguments17:02
TheSheepit's just 'sudo mount -a'17:02
Soul_Shadowyeah I see lol17:02
Soul_Shadowtypo sorry17:02
TheSheepit takes all the rest from /etc/fstba17:02
TheSheepfstab17:02
Soul_Shadowso sudo mount -t ntfs /dev/sda1/ /mnt/ntfs correct17:02
Soul_Shadowdoing that in launcher mounts it but how do I put extra command to open the /mnt/ntfs in thunar afterwards?17:03
TheSheepyeah, use 'gksu' instead of 'sudo' to have a gui for the password17:03
TheSheepbecause it will ask for the password the first time17:03
Soul_Shadowwell im trying to get it to load without password maybe su root passwordhere then the command? ther has to be easyer way to enter the command & pass17:04
TheSheepwhat did you put in the fstab exactly that it doesn't work?17:06
TheSheepanyways, I have to run now, good luck17:06
Soul_Shadowthe mount -a -t ntfs /dev/sda1/ /mnt/ntfs/17:06
Soul_Shadowbut will it ask for the pass every time I click it??17:07
eXpl0i7sudo request a pass17:08
Soul_ShadowI know but I am trying to allow it ot automaticly put the pass in & then open the dir using thunar17:09
eXpl0i7hmmm17:09
Soul_Shadowinstead of putting in a pass every time I want to mount & launvh it17:09
Soul_Shadowusing launcher to try & mount & open the dir after17:09
Soul_Shadowwhat do I need to put after the last command to continue another command?17:10
Soul_Shadow; & | does nothing im thinking , ??17:10
eXpl0i7try to create some .sh script17:10
Soul_ShadowI never made an sh script that basicly like using the perminal commands correct?17:11
eXpl0i7i go to try make some script....17:12
Soul_Shadowlol sh is actually like batch files only more commands :P DUH on me17:12
Soul_Shadowim making one now :P17:13
Soul_Shadowthank u17:13
vinnlSoul_Shadow, you could also try to use exo-mount17:13
Lusulehi guys, can someone help me out with restoring grub after a windows install please?  I think I'm still on an old version of Ubuntu17:13
vinnl!grub17:14
ubottugrub is the default boot manager for Ubuntu releases before Karmic (9.10). Lost GRUB after installing Windows? See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestoreGrub - GRUB how-tos: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GrubHowto - See !grub2 for Karmic onwards.17:14
vinnlLusule, there :)17:14
LusuleI tried using that guide, vinnl, but I got all confused because I haven't been able to auto-mount my xubuntu partition, I had to do it manually into /mnt/temp, so nothing's where it should be17:15
Lusuleatm i'm running off a live-pen17:15
`mOOse`isn't there some law or something that you have to mount foreign filesystems (cdroms too) in media, and not mnt?17:15
vinnlIt doesn't really matter17:15
Soul_Shadowno its a HD not media nature17:15
Lusulei was always taught to use mnt, so that's what i use17:15
vinnlBut hmm, then I don't know :S17:15
Soul_Shadowmedia is for flash cdtom floppy & whatnot17:16
Soul_Shadowcdrom*17:16
Soul_Shadowaka removable17:16
Soul_Shadowlooks liek it works :P lemme unmount & try again :P17:16
`mOOse`ok cause I seem to remember once upon a time that ubuntu wouldn't recognise the fs  if it wasn't in media - and now that I think about it - it was a usb drive17:17
Soul_Shadowubuntu 1.0?? :P17:17
`mOOse`heh shush you17:17
Soul_ShadowI started in ubuntu 3.x lmao17:17
`mOOse`slackware 1.6 here17:17
Soul_Shadowthink it was 3.4 lol17:18
bazhang!4.1017:18
ubottuUbuntu 4.10 (Warty Warthog) was the first release of Ubuntu. End Of Life: April 30, 2006. See !eol for more details.17:18
Lusulevinnl that second guide seems a bit more helpful, thanks :)17:18
`mOOse`although I did tend to ignore it in favor of my SCO box in the corner17:18
charlie-tcaThe debian guides say use /media for removable drives; you may optionally use /mnt for other items17:18
`mOOse`thanks charlie-tca17:18
vinnlLusule, ah, great :)17:19
Soul_Shadowwell yes 3.4 was unofficial release beta testing but I would have to look at my cd to see if it was 3.4 or 4.1 :P17:19
Lusuleright i'm going to reboot and see if that worked, thanks again!17:19
* charlie-tca thinks it is just trivia17:19
Soul_Shadowyeha how cus I cannot unmount17:19
vinnlOK, I'm off, bye everybody17:19
Soul_Shadownvm17:19
Soul_Shadowl8tr17:20
Soul_ShadowI will try my script :P17:20
Soul_Shadowyep that failed using launcher17:22
Soul_Shadowdamn caps :P it works17:23
Soul_Shadowim an oficial scriptor lol17:23
Soul_Shadowanyone knows how I would put a if /dev/sda1/ = mounted do thunar /mnt/ntfs/ :P17:24
Soul_Shadowim sure that not exact command17:24
Soul_Shadowor will it not matter its attempt of mounting every time I open it17:25
Soul_Shadowsup lus17:25
Lusuleyay that worked, thanks :)17:25
Lusulenow I just have to work out what to back up, so I can reinstall17:25
Soul_Shadowwb to the linux world :P17:25
LusuleI haven't used my linux partition for a while, too much gaming >< can't remember a thing now!17:26
Soul_Shadowbackup any manual installed packages17:26
Soul_Shadowyah I been using winblows for making websites & swf files17:26
Lusuleits more settings for things like irssi and xfce customisations17:26

talonstrikerHow can I access my windows partition through xubuntu?  w/ gnome and kde it'd usually be listed in the file manager20:00
charlie-tca!samba20:00
ubottuSamba is the way to cooperate with Windows environments. Links with more info: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/MountWindowsSharesPermanently and https://help.ubuntu.com/9.10/serverguide/C/windows-networking.html - Samba can be administered via the web with SWAT.20:00
charlie-tcaor !gigolo20:00
charlie-tca!gigolo20:01
talonstrikerok i managed to stumble upon gigolo on my own20:01
talonstrikerif i attempt to mount it20:01
talonstrikeri get an error message saying that it can't connect20:01
charlie-tcagigolo is just a wrapper for mounting. Check the connections, is the windows partition available? Xfce is not as easy as gnome sometimes, but it works better for some of us.20:02
`mOOse`talonstriker, unless you put your ntfs partitions in fstab, the only way I've figured out how to view them in xubuntu is to open catfish and choose "Other" locations in the folder dropdown20:03
`mOOse`once you do that, then your ntfs drives are visible in thunar20:03
`mOOse`it's kinda funky but that's the best I can give you (assuming that your ntfs is in your machine and not on a network, in which case samba would be your choice)20:04
talonstrikerthat seemed to work20:04
talonstrikerit's listed under the /mnt directory20:04
talonstrikerthanks20:04
talonstrikerseems to be a bit of a hack  >_>20:04
`mOOse`indeed20:05
`mOOse`time to put them in fstab I'm guessing20:06
`mOOse`if you want them to automount20:06
raevolBalsaq: why thank you, sorry i ran off so quick20:13

puxli need some help with grub in xubuntu 9.1020:31
Lusulehi there :) i just reinstalled xubuntu, which was fine, then updated, which was not so fine - now whenever I reboot and get to the log in screen, it gives me the option of choosing user (even though I told it to log me in automatically), I type in the password, and then it just sort of things for a while before bringing me back to the login screen, in an endless loop20:36
charlie-tca!question | puxl20:38
ubottupuxl: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-)20:38
puxlokay, GRUB just halts and waits for my enter to boot the OS, but I already wrote all the necessary things in the /etc/default/grub and did  the update-grub command to avoid the halt and make xubuntu auto-start.20:41
Lusulenm i'll just try reinstalling20:55

Lam3r_cowell, I'm just googling how to speed up xubuntu on my ancient via epia machine, I hope I'll find something. Can I use the same tutorials as for ubuntu?23:03
charlie-tcaIf they apply to items you have installed, yes.23:04
Lam3r_cosystem monitor is using 70% of cpu time... this one will be tough23:14
charlie-tcaYes, system monitor steals cpu, might want to open it to check things, then close it again.23:22
