[03:45] Hi. Help? [03:52] hello lgc [03:53] duanedesign, I am new to UO, but it doesn't seem to work. The client just can't seem to connect. [03:56] lgc: ok [03:56] It's not OK ... :( ! [03:57] lgc: quit the applet r-click quit [03:57] And then? [03:58] open a Terminal (Applications > Accesories > Terminal) [03:58] Got it. [03:58] and run: u1sdtool -q [03:59] daemon stopped. [03:59] ok run: ps uaxxc | grep ubu [04:00] to make sure its all quit [04:00] All clear. [04:00] ok now start the client with Applications > Internet > Ubuntu One [04:01] "Oops! This link appears to be broken." [04:01] lgc: did that appear in the browser? [04:02] or in a dialog box? [04:02] Yes, after trying to add my computer. [04:03] lgc: what version of the client do you have: apt-cache policy ubuntuone-client [04:03] EX. Installed: 1.1.1+r321-0ubuntu1~ppa1~karmic [04:04] 1.0.2-0ubuntu2 [04:04] lgc: ok lets first update it to 1.0.3 they added a lot of fixes in that version [04:04] System > Administration > Update Manager [04:04] there should be an update waiting for ubuntuone-client [04:05] I thought it was automatic... [04:05] you can set how often it runs (update manager) [04:07] bottom left there is a settings button if you want to change how often it checks for updates [04:07] In fact, in the long list of updates there is UO (I'm not sure when the updating system changed, but I was more aware of it before. There was an icon always present, IIRC). [04:08] lgc: yes it was different in Jaunty [04:09] The updating is set to daily. However, I don't think it's doing it so. There are 167 packages to update! Can't be from yesterday... [04:15] duanedesign, you still there? [04:16] yes [04:16] sorry [04:16] i was looking for a bug on the update manager [04:17] mine is set to daily too. But i dont think that is the resulting behavior [04:20] I apt-get installed it manually and managed to register the computer. However, a popup asked me for the keyring password. By using my password (I'm the admin) I didn't go nowhere. But I recalled the first admin password and voilá! I could get through but I think I ran into a gnome-keyring-whatever bug. [04:23] So did not add your computer? [04:23] or it just asked for a different password than you were expecting? [04:23] It did, twice, with different codes (....). So I deleted both entries and UO refuses to work again! [04:25] you can go through the proces of quitting everything again. Quit the client through the applet and run u1sdtool -q [04:25] then App > Int> Ubuntu One should work [04:26] As regardsthe gnome-keyring thing, it in fact expects a different password. I was sick and tired of it not accepting my password when trying to go wireless. The thing is that SOMEHOW the very first admin password seems to be stored somewhere. [04:26] "ubuntuone-syncdaemon still running." [04:27] Had to kill it the old way... [04:28] ok and : ps uaxxc | grep ubu [04:28] will ensure that all is quit [04:29] It seems to be connected now, but no indication that it's doing anything. [04:30] u1sdtool --status [04:30] try that^^ [04:31] also: u1sdtool --current-transfers [04:31] will show if any current transfers are happening [04:32] Doesn't have the "status" option. And no transfers are active. [04:33] lgc: do you have a file ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/syncdaemon-exceptions.log [04:33] it's there, but empty. [04:33] ok [04:33] By the way, the icon disappeared from the panel. [04:34] lgc: you might have it set to only appear during 'activity' [04:34] lgc: you can go to App > Int > Ubuntu One [04:34] and if the client is already running the preferences box comes up [04:35] also untick limit bandwidth if it is checked [04:35] I changed it to "always", but the icon doesn't rear its head. [04:37] lgc: what did it say when you did: u1sdtool --status [04:37] u1sdtool: error: no such option: --status [04:37] huh [04:39] And the icon still refuses to show up. [04:39] ps uaxxc | grep ubu [04:39] (Or rear its "ugly" head. [04:39] and see if the syncdaemon is running [04:39] lgc 27596 0.4 1.4 88448 29480 ? Sl 22:28 0:01 ubuntuone-clien [04:39] lgc 27717 0.7 0.8 38840 18308 ? Sl 22:28 0:02 ubuntuone-syncd [04:43] lgc: is there anything in: ~/.cache/ubuntuone/log/oauth-login.log [04:44] if there is you can paste it on ubuntu.pastebin.com [04:44] http://paste.ubuntu.com/ [04:44] It's brief: [04:44] 2010-02-12 22:28:13,311:311.808109283 UbuntuOne.Client.Applet Error de salida: M [04:44] ethod "quit" with signature "" on interface "com.ubuntuone.SyncDaemon.SyncDaemon [04:44] " doesn't exist [04:45] "salida"=it [04:45] "salida"=output. [04:47] lgc run this to make sure everythin got updated. sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-client* python-ubuntuone-storage* [04:48] Ready. [04:48] Do I kill and restart anew? [04:48] yes try again [04:50] But: [04:50] u1sdtool --current-transfers [04:50] Current uploads: 0 [04:50] Current downloads: 0 [04:51] try placing another small file in the Ubuntu One folder [04:52] Nice. It worked this time. [04:54] lgc: if you have stuff existing in the folder. You might need to back it up : cp ~Ubuntu\ One/ ~Ubuntu\ One.old/ [04:54] and then empty the original and copy back over the contents. If that makes sense [04:55] I deleted some files from the folder and nothing seemed to happen. Is it supposed to update continuously? [04:57] lgc: i just deleted some too. It looks like the server might be a little slow right now. I know they were rolling out an update that might slow things down for a day [04:57] I was reading something along those lines as you pinged. [04:58] How good does UO deal with symlinks? [04:59] lgc: they will be adding the option to select folders other than Ubuntu One in Lucid [05:00] if you want to sym link. Put the folder in Ubuntu one not the link [05:01] Oh, I see. So I had it backwards. [05:02] This amount to moving things around and not just creating the symlinks... [05:03] Not that it's too much work in my case, but doesn't seem elegant, does it? [05:04] lgc: no. There will be a lot of improvements in Lucid [05:05] there are definetly a few rough corners. But Canonical has added some people to pretty up U1 and they have been working really hard and making some good progress. [05:06] there is a Customer Support Engineer 'rye' he is really helpfull when it comes to Ubuntu One [05:07] he is usially here from about...well 4 hours from now and usually satays in here for a good 10 - 12 hours a day [05:07] s/satays/stays [05:10] OK. The important thing is that it's working now. [05:12] By the way, am I supposed to see the "updating" (or whatever) icon constantly (while updating, that is)? Because I can't see it anymore. [05:15] lgc: i deleted some stuff. then looked at my syncdaemon log and the message has been sent so i think know it is up to the server [05:15] if that answers your question :) [05:16] Guess what? It only seems to work with small files. I copied a bunch of dirs to the U1 dir. But there are no transfers going on... [05:17] And I can't delete on the page the small file that did copy (I'ts not on the U1 dir anymore). [05:18] lgc: you cant delete the small file from the web page [05:18] Why not? [05:19] sorry, lol [05:19] that was a question [05:19] i am bad at punctuation [05:19] lgc: try reloading the webpage [05:20] Oh. There is this trash icon associated with the file, but there seems to be an error of some sort, since the background goes pink -or red-. [05:22] duanedesign, it's gone! Moreover, some of the dirs I moved to U1 already appear on the page. But how come no transfers seem to be active? [05:22] OK, let me take that back: Current uploads: [05:22] path: /home/lgc/Ubuntu One/C/example15.his [05:22] deflated size: 169205 [05:22] bytes written: 169205 [05:22] Current downloads: 0 === jamalta is now known as jamlata-afk [05:25] duanedesign, what about my Evolution contacts and my sticky notes? Are they supposed to transfer all by themselves? [05:25] lgc: yes. Those transfer i think every ten minutes [05:26] Oh, nice. [05:26] lgc: there is also this command [05:26] u1sdtool --waiting-content [05:27] i put a 3k file in my folder and its still waiting, lol [05:27] u1sdtool: error: no such option: --waiting-content [05:27] lgc: i am going to make a note about that error and ask about it tommorrow [05:27] Newcomers have the right of way...:)! [05:28] i have never seen that error [05:28] ha ha, right [05:28] duanedesign, are you a developer? [05:28] lgc: no, just a volunteer [05:29] I see. [05:29] volunteer = a community member who is interested in the project [05:29] Where do you get your options for u1sdtool? [05:29] man u1sdtool [05:30] duanedesign, my u1sdtool doesn't seem to have a couple of them, like "waiting content" and "status". [05:31] lgc: maybe they are in the package: sudo apt-get install ubuntuone-client-tools [05:32] It was already there. [05:34] lgc: must be because i am running the Beta from the Beta/PPA [05:35] It makes sense. [05:39] By the way, from the webpage I just navigated to a file and then I clicked it so it downloaded to my desktop. But when I deleted it, it was also deleted from the page, apparently. [05:44] (Actually no, it's back up there.) [05:45] lgc: ok, good [05:46] But I've waited longer than 10 minutes in order for my contacts to show up on the page, without luck. [05:51] lgc: make sure this is installed: apt-cache policy evolution-couchdb [05:51] EX: Installed: 0.3.4-0ubuntu2 [05:54] if you have not set up the contacts to sync before there is a guide here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuOne/Tutorials/Contacts [05:58] lgc: geting late here. If you still have questions tomorrow ill be around [05:58] have a good night [06:37] duanedesign, I took a pause for dinner, sorry. I finally got the address book on U1. Thank you very much and best regards from Mexico. [06:37] Good night. [18:27] If I delete a file in my Ubuntu One folder, will it also be deleted on the server and on my other PC? [18:48] mesula: yes [19:34] hello rye. [19:35] duanedesign, hi [19:35] duanedesign, have you upgraded your system to Lucid ? [19:36] No. I just have a VM [19:36] duanedesign, I did [19:36] and gnote broke [19:36] along with ufw :) [19:38] heh, thats no good [19:41] you like gnote? I have heard good things about it recently. I use Tomboy a lot so i am nervous to switch [19:51] duanedesign, no sync so far [19:51] duanedesign, i did a couchdb-to-.note files sync (w/o support for removed ones) but it is not compatible with current server ui code (it stores notes in HTML at the moment) [19:52] duanedesign, gnote is super fast [19:52] duanedesign, when it actually works, it seems that it is seriously damaged in lucid now, filing a bug report and will debug. [20:28] ok, debugging ufw, will be unavailable for some time (may disconnect spontaneously) [20:31] heh [20:32] are you familiar with the 'share_id' in U1 [20:32] duanedesign, not yet [20:33] * rye reboots! [21:50] DDC/3
