chelzi'm looking over info about the Global Jam but in terms of a time or event where people are encouraged to seek out all the hardware they can, and encourage people they know to seek out all the hardware those people can, for making any necessary tweaks in default Ubuntu so it works out-of-the-box. is there a time/event one focused on hardware07:53

edakiriI would like to propose 2 changes to pre-release Ubuntus to increase reliability and aid testing:11:28
edakiri#0 : Have the default color scheme be atypical (such as light foreground and dark background) or randomly generated.  This will increase awareness and fixing of faulty color handling in applications.11:29
edakiri#1 : Everything compiled with GCC gets at least debugging symbols of level -g1, which enables a stack trace.11:30

jpdsedakiri: We have -dbg package for #1.13:04
persiaWell, if there is no -dbg package, there may be ddebs15:07
edakiripersia: Some times there is no -dbg package.   Some other times I have been unable to find it. Some other times, many packages debug symbols were bundled into a big debug package, which i had inadequate space to install.  Some times the error is sporadic and if you do not already have the debug information installed, you will miss the opportunity. Everyone should be considered testing if it is not a released distribution. The debug package15:36
persiaedakiri: Like I said, lots of packages have ddebs, rather than -dbg packages.15:37
edakirii don't know about ddebs. i will look into it15:37
persiaHaving everything with debug symbols until release freeze means a 3 month gap between when work stops on a release and when the release happens: that is too expensive.15:37
edakiripersia: why would there be a gap?15:38
persiaBecause we'd have to recompile everything to not have the symbols in order to fit it on a CD.15:39
edakiriIt doesn't take 3 months to recompile, does it?15:39
persiaAt least.  Maybe longer.15:39
persiaRemember that there are more than 20,000 packages.15:39
edakiriI used to run Gentoo.  It makes installing from source packages sound more efficient. --or a mix.15:41
persiaThat only works if you have relatively fast hardware.  At least some of my devices would be useless with that model.15:45
edakiriI don't know how it would work with a mobile phone, but compiling without optimization, it installed swiftly enough - and i installed the way that rebuild even libc.16:05
flaxhello, i have this freezing 10.04 ubuntu, it happens after i press the <enter> key19:59
flaxthe system is still running (have an sshserver running)20:00
flaxbut it appears as if the system is completely frozen,...20:00
flaxany clues how i can recover my system?20:00
persiaflax: There's a bug about that (I forget the number), and I think it was fixed.20:02
persiaSomeone in #ubuntu+1 might be able to give you support on working around it.20:02
flaxthanks!20:02
