iggimincbwcjw: I've spent over an hour in "keyboard and mouse" - can't find a "launch terminal" option to set or a "launch browser" option - am I missing them?00:10
iggiminI want to launch a terminal with a keystroke00:10
cbwcjwOne second00:10
cbwcjwWell that's annoying, I can find this for GNOME00:13
cbwcjwbut not KDE00:13
iggiminright. me too.00:13
iggiminit is annoying00:13
iggiminplus, my onboard sound card works fine in gnome, but doesn't in kde - any idea there?00:14
cbwcjwThat's wierd because they should just use the same mixer, but i'm not a sound guy here.00:14
iggiminI completely agree - I have a friend who writes sound apps for Linux and he says the same thing. but they don't use the same mixer - KDE is different00:15
cbwcjwhttp://fosswire.com/post/2007/10/yakuake-a-drop-down-terminal-for-kde/00:15
iggiminAnyone in here know how to get this sound card running?00:15
cbwcjwWell, that link MIGHT help, it's a fancy terminal emulator, but isn't what you were looking for.00:16
iggiminthat's a helpful link there cbwcjw :)00:16
cbwcjwSure thing, I google EVERYTHING. If I help you with something I learn it too. Win/win.00:17
iggiminnext question - where is the list of startup items in Kubuntu? I can't find it either00:17
iggiminI want to add some items to start with X00:17
iggimin(or K or whatever it's called, heheh)00:18
cbwcjwAutostart, in advanced tab in System Settings00:18
iggiminhooray! that worked! Heheh, I added Yakuake to it also :)00:21
cbwcjwAwesome. Glad to help.00:21

ubottuprepeat: To replicate your packages selection on another machine (or restore it if re-installing), you can type « aptitude  --display-format '%p' search '?installed!?automatic' > ~/my-packages », move the file "my-packages" to the other machine, and there type « sudo xargs aptitude --schedule-only install < my-packages ; sudo aptitude install » - See also !automate01:04

ev0sx1that where dead easy on windows03:30
cbwcjwYeah, don't worry. I'm 16, and grew up with windows. To even use this is hard enough and i'm on my own.03:31
ev0sx1just a few hours ago i installed a fresh linux build, on a new partition (to don't loose my settings and files on the other partition where i originally had linux). So, then i thought: hey, it would be great if i could "reconfigure" linux to use my previous "home folder" where i have all my stuff03:32

cbwcjwSo all your settings follow you.03:32
cbwcjwBut it's entirely possible.03:33
ev0sx1so i went, searched a bit, thinked a bit, and then i went to user management and setted up the folder on the previuous partition. All ok. Rebooted, and guess what? i forgot to automount the partition on fstab03:33

nonameNNthe ppa is ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa and last version is 1.1.38-013:13
lalalol__to see if its installed or not, so then i know if the kmenu is bugged13:13

GalvatronHi13:17
GalvatronOn my Kubuntu 9.10, hhen I use "compiz --replace", the wallpaper and widgets on desktop disappear. Panels work as well as righht-click menu and windows (but without decoration). After that, I gen a debug message that Kwin crashed. My video card is Radeon 9200SE wih the latest X.org and open drivers from xorg-edgers. Reinstalling Compiz and X didn't help and so did creating xorg.conf with "X -configure" in recovery mode.13:17
lalalol__i entered sudo apt-get remove wine and it gave me: Package wine is not installed, so not removed13:17
lalalol__so with that command from u to uninstall chromiumbsu, i also uninstalled wine13:18
shadeslayerGalvatron: well i think you need to start nautilus too13:18
docmax_hi13:18
docmaxhi13:18
nonameNNGalvatron: u have to install compiz-kde and in system preferences, prefered apps, theres an option to choose the windows manager, then u choose there compiz, dont do compiz --replace on kde...13:18
lalalol__and the kmenu is bugged cuz it still shows wine13:18
nonameNNlalalol__: thats probably why ur missing wineconfig13:18
lalalol__what to do with the wine menu in the kmenu then? it still shows my game :S13:19
nonameNNlalalol__: if u have installed something on wine and if u have .wine, ull have wines menu13:19
lalalol__imma search for .wine13:19
nonameNNlalalol__: if u uninstall wine it doesnt mean u uninstall software installed on wine13:19
nonameNNlalalol__: ok dude, i wont advaice u anymore...13:20
nonameNNGalvatron: got it?13:20
lalalol__so i need to install wine again and ill have everything like before? :S also my games?13:20

nonameNNlalalol__: its all in .wine this is not windows man13:21
lalalol__nonameNN, in my software sources, the ppa for wine is still there13:21
nonameNNlalalol__: then just reinstall it and ur done13:22
GalvatronGot it13:22
lalalol__ok, im gonna search for the command to install the dev wine13:22
nonameNNGalvatron: u probalby dont want to mess with Xorg or anything about xconfig... its just a package so kde can support compiz and then telling kde to use compiz insted of kwin13:23
nonameNNlalalol__: just sudo apt-get install wine, if wines ppa is in the repos the lastest version will be installed13:23
lalalol__alright13:23
nonameNNhope i helped, im gone!13:24
lalalol__wait13:24

lalalol__http://pastebin.com/d1890725513:25
nonameNNlalalol__: do a sudo apt-get update13:26
lalalol__got an error with that :/13:26
nonameNNlalalol__: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-wine/ppa && sudo apt-get update13:27
GalvatronStill the same13:27
nonameNNGalvatron: u have to restart kde man13:27
GalvatronBut now it at least returned to Kwin13:27
GalvatronRestart KDE man - could you explain?13:28
nonameNNGalvatron: select compiz, logout and login13:28

Fieldyhello, I upgraded from 9.04 to 9.10 yesterday. Shortly after, I started having a problem with one of (but not my other) external USB drive. Kernel logs say: "sd 11:0:0:0: rejecting I/O to offline device", at which point it can't be used. It has to be unmounted, unplugged (USB) and plugged back in. Then it works, until the problem returns later. fsck shows no errors. The full description and full logs and other thoughts are here: http://paste13:42

kayvewhat's a tasksel?22:35
EagleScreentasksel is a tool to install some things which require installation of several packages in a friendy way22:35
EagleScreenbut i cannot remember if that thing was in tasksel22:36
kayveIt doesnt have Ubuntu instructions22:36
EagleScreenkayve: run: sudo tasksel and check for it22:36
kayvethere is not many things there.22:37
EagleScreenkayve: what is your Kubuntu version?22:38
kayve8.10?22:38
=== sourcemaker_ is now known as sourcemaker
kayveis that the latest or 9.10?22:38
kayve 2.6.31-19-generic #56-Ubuntu SMP22:38
EagleScreenthe latest is 9.10, the one you have by your kernel22:39
kayveI'm pretty sure I have the lastest. Installed a few weeks ago?  umm.. in January?22:39
EagleScreenokay kayve, then your list of taks in tasksel should be large, but it haven't to contain LADDAP22:40
kayvethere are 43 things in tasksel is that large?  I don't think so22:41
EagleScreenyes it is22:41
kayvenot by my standards22:42
EagleScreena few time ago tasksel used to have four or five tasks22:42
kayveNote: for the Ubuntu binary build offered here you will need to run the following commands in usr/lib: sudo ln -s libssl.so.0.9.8 libssl.so.6 and sudo ln -s libcrypto.so.0.9.8 libcrypto.so.622:42

e_t_What is FloodBot?22:49
nonameNNjust a bot that wont let u flood22:49
nonameNNhey, does any one here has an ssd drive??22:50
rbrunhubernonameNN:  I have one22:51
nonameNNrbrunhuber: how faster are they comparing with regular sata2 discs?22:51
nonameNNrbrunhuber: i mean, is it worth it?22:52
rbrunhubernonameNN: I've never made any benchmarks and I can't compare the current kubuntu on ssd to the experience on hdd.22:53
nonameNNrbrunhuber: k thanks... im just tryin to figure out if its worth to pay 500 dollars for one...22:53
rbrunhubernonameNN: What I see is that lucid starts extremely fast. I'd say under 5 seconds from grub till kdm dialog22:53
nonameNNrbrunhuber: thats 4 times faster than mine, an when u open apps, are they faster?22:54
rbrunhubernonameNN: I'd not pay this again. I've paid around 650 EUR for it.22:55
nonameNNrbrunhuber: when they first came out? im from argentina and they are like u$s 500 here22:56
rbrunhuberThis floodbot drives me crazy. Does this floodbot prevent users from flooding the channel by flooding it itself?22:57
james_lApparently22:58
SatManUKVroomfondle: ty for your help 2 day 4 distros and this is the only 1 my laptop would take22:58
nonameNNhehe22:58
SatManUKall rpm based distros have bios errors22:58
rbrunhuberSatManUK: This is a really big claim.22:58
james_lAnd unlikely to be true.22:59
SatManUKwell this is really a perculiar laptop22:59

SatManUKaqll distros i normally used failed in the last 4 days so i tried kubuntu it worked first time23:01
SatManUKsomeone kill that bot23:01
Torchwtf?23:02
SatManUKor fix it]23:02
SatManUKnight23:02
nonameNNdid anyone tried ubuntu on eeepc 1201n?23:02
james_lI'm pretty sure one of my laptops is peculiar, and in fact is the only one with the particular bios/hardware. :P23:02
SatManUKjames_l: hp pavilion dv7-2230sa23:03
SatManUK0000x001f causing conflict acpi region of smb - opensuse23:04
SatManUKfedora kernel panic suspected broken bios23:04
SatManUKkubuntu worked out of the box23:04
amdgoon_[B[A[A23:04
james_lThat's good23:04
rbrunhuberBut that does not support your claim that all rpm based distros have bios erros23:05
james_lThough if you can, you might want to track down why it failed and post a bugreport on the appropriate bugtracker.23:05
SatManUKi will test others and build a list23:05
SatManUKmost rpm are based on fedora or suse23:05
james_lAnd frankly, it's probably better when making that claim to add 'on my laptop', because I've had a number of machines where they were the only things that worked.23:06
SatManUKbut not tonight night23:06
SatManUKthats what i meant23:06
SatManUKspecific23:06
rbrunhuberOn this we can agree.23:06
SatManUKsuse runs well in all my desktops and last laptop23:07
cbwcjwSatManUK: I usually don't encounter problems with *buntu, but this is because the devs work really hard to make sure everything DOES work out of the box23:07
SatManUKgood23:07
cbwcjwReally, it ends up being that *buntu works the most times out of the box.23:07
SatManUKnormally suse did as well23:07
cbwcjwBecause of the ubuntu philosophy that it should "Just work"23:07
SatManUKbut not this time23:07
cbwcjwYeah, 11.2 was a wierd release.23:07
SatManUKbut the program that downloads drivers is superb23:08
SatManUKwish suse would adopt it23:08
james_lHeh, there's also the gentoo philosophy (which was needed a few years ago on a lot of hardware, (k)ubuntu wouldn't support everything) of 'If it doesn't work, you can make it work.'23:08
SatManUKthere are + / in every release23:09
SatManUK+ -23:09
rbrunhubernight all.23:09
SatManUKok im gone23:09

Pavelso if a page tells me to input this from a startup script, does  it mean the command line? '$ MOONLIGHT_OVERRIDES=effects=no firefox23:34
Pavel'23:34
RiddellPavel: yes23:43
Pavelwhen I open it with alt+f2 though, it won't run that23:44
Pavelriddell, is alt+f2 a command line or just krunner?23:51
RiddellPavel: it's a command line, not sure it's a full shell though, it might not work with the environment variable there23:52
Riddelluse konsole for a full shell23:52
Pavelkonsol tells me 'command not found: $'23:52
ZoraelWhen I connect a second monitor, my mouse sensitivity skyrockets. I guess it's defined as relative to my screen size, and the new monitor makes that much larger. Can I set the sensitivity to be an absolute value somehow?23:53
TorchPavel: don't enter the $23:54
ZoraelMake that touchpad sensitivity.23:55
Pavelthanks, that worked, now if nbc.com would stop shutting down firefox when I try to watch the olympics that'd be dandy23:57
