klucasHi all, is there a way to get a front end to play content in a loop?02:53
klucasI've got a series of machines that are using propriarery software that isn't much good.02:54
klucasI'm thinking of converting them all to mythtv.02:54
klucasbut it's in a retail environment where there are several machines playing content created from one in a loop02:55
klucasthanks in advance.02:56
tgm4883klucas, I think* you can set up repeat points, but i'd have to check the menu in playback. I'm upgrading right now so cant do it03:06
klucastgm4883: interesting.  I'll have to try it out here before I take it to the powers that be :)03:08
bcgrownhow can i view the bitrate of a stream i'm watching or have recorded?04:09
fleersbcgrown: might try mplayer04:38
fleersmplayer -vo null -ao null -frames 10 -identify <filename>04:38
fleersor similar04:38
bcgrownfleers: i think i'm a little late, but thank you.06:11
TechnophilCan someone tell me what file determines the channels shown on the LiveTV OSD when pressing the remotes up and down arrows?  I find some channels are missing yet if I press the channel number they are there and show that way.  I've scanned again and the mythweb settings seems to give them all the same treatment.  e.g TV2 is not in the list yet pressing "2" tunes that channel.06:34
TechnophilAlso cold rebooted.  (Using two 500T tuners = 4 tuners)06:35

ballAnyone happen to know off hand whether Mythbuntu would be able to use this thing?  http://www.bestbuy.com/site/Hauppauge+-+Dual+PCI+Express+TV+Tuner/Recorder/9539706.p?id=1218121172758&skuId=953970615:51

rhpot1991ball: most places are phasing out analog, I'd go look at a HDHR if I were you15:55
rhpot1991can do the same digital, has dual tuners, is around the same price range, and doesn't need to take up a pcie slot15:55
ballWhat is an HDHR?  Hard Disk Hedgehog Recorder?15:57
ballI thought about buying a Tivo box, but I'd rather use Mythbuntu if I can.15:58
ball...more expensive, but more flexible.15:58
mrandball, exactly right.15:59
mrandhdhr = hd homerun16:00

Zinn[www.silicondust.com] Silicondust16:00
rhpot1991they make the HDHR16:00
ballmrand: Does that thing work with Linux?16:01
rhpot1991yes16:02
rhpot1991ball: several of the developers here use one, and its a very popular tuner for mythtv16:09
ballAh, I didn't know it could be used like that.16:10

rhpot1991if you haven't found it yet16:11
ballJust found it, thanks.16:11
ballI like that it doesn't depend on any particular expansion slot.16:13
ball...have they been good about releasing documentation to Linux developers?16:14
mrandball: HD homerun is outstanding in all respects.16:15
mrandIf it fits your needs (digital only), it is by far the best thing available, precisely because they do support Linux directly.16:16
ballmrand: Okay, I'm sold.  I'll have to build a computer to go with it, but that's okay.16:17
rhpot1991ball: ya they work with mythtv itself to handle support there, and they release all their code for configuration utility as well (which I packaged up for the next ubuntu release)16:17
rhpot1991ball: are you familiar with VDPAU?16:18
ballrhpot1991: Never heard of VDPAU.  That they work with Linux people makes me more inclined to give them my hard-earned money.16:19
rhpot1991!vdpau | ball16:19
Zinnball: http://www.mythtv.org/wiki/VDPAU16:19
rhpot1991I'd recommend you build something with VDPAU support if you are going to deal with HD16:19
ballAh.  Has to be nVidia then?16:20
rhpot1991that is recommended, ATI doesn't have an equivalent available currently16:20

rhpot1991you can get an idea what some of us are running from that16:20
ballDaviey: I almost bought an ML115 once.16:21
jst_Aside from the control center, are there any other differences between Xubuntu and Mythbuntu?16:22
Davieyball: been solid for me16:22
ballDaviey: the ML110 has worked well for us as a file server.  About ready to buy a couple of rackmount DLs (or something) for a thin client project.  At home I'll use something more modest for Mythbuntu.16:23

jst_I've been using Xubuntu for my HTPC/file server/LAMP/print server/etc.  Just wondering if it made more sense to go with Mythbuntu, but I guess there's not really a big difference. :)16:27

ZinnHi rhpot1991, something I can help you with today?  I am a bot, use !help to see what I can do.16:30
jst_Guess I'll just stick with stable releases.  I'm not encountering any bugs, anyways.16:30
jst_hah16:30
rhpot1991jst_: the auto builds of .22 just contain any fixes that have been added upstream16:31
rhpot1991jst_: they are hardly unstable16:31
jst_Ohh, so as long as I'm using "stable" and not "trunk," I'll actually get bugfixes?16:32
rhpot1991yep16:32
jst_Nice.16:32
jst_I'd probably have to enable this on all the frontends as well.16:32
jst_That could be a problem since one of them is a Windows box.16:32
rhpot1991you wouldn't necessarily, as long as they are all the same version of mythtv it should be fine, IE 0.2216:33
* tgm4883 notes that auto-builds doesn't have stable/trunk anymore, just select 0.2216:36
jst_Ok, thanks.16:38
olejlI have enabled the 0.23 PPA of MythTV, but there is no MythNetvision plugin. Do you have plans to add it?16:44
olejlfound it as a package "mythnetvision", it is just missing in the Mythbuntu Control Centre frontend16:50

TechnophilCan anyone tell me the password for the user "mythtv" on mythbuntu 9.10?19:36
TechnophilI want to run mythfilldatabase as user mythtv19:36
DavieyTechnophil: sudo -umythtv -s19:37
Davieyuser mythtv doesn't have a password, you *could* set one.. but that command would seem cleaner19:38
TechnophilDaviey: Ahh, like logging in as a SU, presumably exit or quit releases again?19:40
DavieyTechnophil: yeah19:40
TechnophilDaviey: Much obliged to you, thanks.19:41
TechnophilHmmm That still runs mythfilldatabase  Using configuration directory = /home/{user}/.mythtv and not /home/mythtv/.mythtv   Can I manually make it run the mythtv/.mythtv version?19:46
DavieyTechnophil: try sudo -umythtv -i19:52
TechnophilDaviey: Yeah that does it.  I had hoped that would fix the missing data (icons and channel information)  in the OSD for some channels in TV with using the up and down arrows.  Some are fine, others missing the program data and icons.  Any suggestions where I might look? I've rescanned.20:04
