sixofour604hrm, i am stuck on the router page of the wlan i am using lol00:00
sixofour604i can00:00
ubuntu_I have a pretty massive problem00:00
Benkinoobysixofour604: you can also use the middle mousebutton to paste after you marked it (without choosing copy)00:00
sixofour604cannot go to any websites''00:00
Benkinoobysixofour604: so how can u use irc?00:00
sixofour604no clue lol00:01
Benkinoobysixofour604: lol00:01
Benkinoobyok i will start a private channel with you... there you can paste as much as u like00:01
sixofour604ok00:01
ubuntu_can anyone help me?00:01
sixofour604state the problem, don,t state that you have a problem00:02
geniiubuntu_: A better description of the problem may be helpful00:02
ubuntu_oh sorry but you guys appear to only deal with kubuntu00:02
Benkinoobyubuntu_: mainly... but kubuntu and ubuntu are the same in some points00:03
Benkinoobyubuntu_: asking doesnt cost anything (maybe upload)00:03
Benkinoobyubuntu_: in case it is ubuntu related they will tell u for sure ;)00:03
geniiubuntu_: This IS the kubuntu support channel :) for Ubuntu use #ubuntu for Xubuntu use #xubuntu  etc. If you're not using any ubuntu-type dist you can be directed to which channel is correct00:04
geniihigh-rez: I have exact same problem. I'm on my 9.04 now as 10.04 won't even startx00:05
ubuntu_I installed a GDM theme on my ubuntu 9.10 and it removed the one I had preinstalled, now the gui wont load, im stuck in the command line mode00:05
tschee-Kubuntu_: indeed this would be better placed in #ubuntu00:10
Benkinoobyubuntu_: gdm is clearly ubuntu...00:11

mercutio22Hello, I am on debian trying to put the kubuntu live image into a usb drive. I tried with dd if=path-to-image of=/dev/sdc bs=1M (and bs=8M). The system wont boot from it. What to do?00:48
megamani got an easy one yall, how can i change my text color that you see when i chat online?00:50
megamanim willing to download a new irc program if i have to00:51

fabio123i'm using konversation right now00:52
megamanok cool!! i have xchat and konversation as well00:52
fabio123better than xchat in my opionio00:52
B|aSSwhy?00:52
megamani know cntrl + k works on konversation but do you really have to hit those buttons every single time you send a message?00:53
B|aSSno00:53
megamani wanna just set it and forget it00:53
fabio123it's a kde 4 application, better interface and dcc support00:53
B|aSSconfig ur colors just like u do on window using mirc00:54

B|aSStest00:58
megamanok i will try00:58
megamanthats in konversation?00:58
B|aSSon irc at all00:58
megamancntrl+b brings up a bookmarks window00:59
megamaniḿ on quassel right now cntrl+k does nothing00:59
B|aSSpossible just like ctrl-i for italic supress my window bar00:59
B|aSSstupid alias00:59
megamanneither does cntrl-b00:59
B|aSSyou can change that00:59
B|aSScan try irssi too01:00
B|aSSir on your console01:00
B|aSS*irc01:00
megamanwhy is this so easy to do when you access the chat through the website (you just click the color you want and thats it)01:01
megamanwhats irssi01:01
B|aSSanother irc client01:01
B|aSSopen console and type irssi01:01
B|aSSold school but efficient01:01
megamanyou can for sure change your text color on that (iḿ tires of downloading tons of irc programs just for one little option that seem like it should be mandatory)01:01
B|aSSu probably already have irssi01:02
B|aSSfor what you want to do you probably need to script alittle tho01:02
megamanok iḿa kinda new to linux (sorry had for about 1 month and trying hard to learn) could you walk me step by step?01:03
B|aSSto display colors to everyone whitout messing with ctrl-k b i all the time01:03
megamanok and what program am i doing this for?01:03
B|aSSu can modify your script from almost any irc client01:05
megamanis that hard?01:05
B|aSSno but u got to get use to it01:05
* B|aSS is back (gone 18:38:59)01:05
B|aSSthis should give you some basic pal:01:07
B|aSShttp://www.ircbeginner.com/ircinfo/colors.html01:07
megamanis it something i just do once, then i dont need to do it again, i have like a theme the i always want to use when i chat (blue and white) so i wouldnt need to change it back and forth01:07
B|aSSyeaj kind off just step tro the basic look that website i gave you01:08
B|aSSplenty of info to begin with that01:08
Gryllidawhat's KPackage website?01:08
megamanbtw Iḿ also very new to chattin (like 4 days new) i only started because frostwire has it as an option while your downloading01:09
megamanthank you bjass!01:09
B|aSSnp pal01:09
B|aSShttp://konversation.kde.org/01:11
B|aSSshould be usefull too if u wanna stick with konversation01:11
megamanand i wanna chat without using the frostwire tab because it slows down my system, so i figured chatting on a irc program would be a way around that (but i really want to do the color thing, which is so easy on frostwire program you wouldnt believe, next to your text you just choose the color click on it and boom its done!)01:12
B|aSSespecialy this section: http://docs.kde.org/development/en/extragear-network/konversation/scripting.html01:12
megamanthanks B iḿ bookmarking all these, are there any others?01:13
B|aSSshould be a good starting point pal01:13
B|aSSso whatever the irc client u use there a way to script it and modify it the way you want01:15
megamanyou know what i can say this, i considerd myself great with computers (always fixed everybodies) but when i switched to linux a month ago, i find myself getting frustrated doing what i think would be such simple things01:16
B|aSScan add stuff to menu and have your client to display text the way you want either to you or to the public01:16
B|aSSyeah thats the transition01:16
B|aSSbut it so f****** deserve it01:17
megamani like quassel the best because of its look and design but i also downloaded xchat and konversation to look for the color option01:17
B|aSSeverything so more simple once you get use to it01:17
B|aSSit faster as well01:17
B|aSSso there must be a way to configure and script this quassel pal01:18
megamanyeah i only have kubuntu on this machine (pentium 4 3.ghz 1gb ram and 64mb nvidia geforce2 mx/mx400) and I only use my other machine to play video games because it has a better graphics card01:20

megamanwell i mean i know how to do what i reallllllly need to do (surf the web, play music and such) but now i find myself stuck trying do personal things like change the way my text looks while chatting and such01:40
B|aSSyeah this will involve some scripting or to find a script that does that for the client u use01:41
B|aSSor the old ctrl + k01:41
B|aSS:P01:41
megamanyeah iḿ not going to settle for hitting ctrl+k every time i wanna say something (i type alot when i chat)01:42
B|aSShehe01:42
megamanthats just not going to cut it, i need to find another solution01:42
B|aSSso write or find a script for ur client01:42
B|aSSonce you get use to it you can built the menu of your irc client and be able to run almost anny apps you commonly use by starting them from your irc client menu01:44
B|aSSuse to do that back in the time with window and mirc01:44
megamanalso you know what when i boot up it says something like: cannot find drive ss34-sdfjkl-34jkj-djfkjd -343kd : hit any button to continue, i hit a button to continue same thing, so i hold shift and then edit and delete that line and cool!!! it starts up.... but i dont wanna do that everytime (although i dont mind it, becuase i leave the computer running all the time, i dont reboot much)01:45
B|aSSyou got sound video everything?01:46
B|aSSsound like a missing driver but im noob so cant be really sure :P01:46
megamanyeah i cant complain.... like i said, everything i reeeeallly need to do.. i got it down (booting, surfing etc..) so i cant complain....but every once in a while i find myself thinking: you know what this was so much easier on windows01:48
B|aSSu got karmic right?01:48

otter_how can i enable krunner to search for documents on my computer? i noticed that in mandriva 2010.0 w/ kde 4.4 you could do this but it doesn't seem to be the case in kubuntu w/ 4.4. is it cause a service is disabled?17:28
EagleScreenjmichaelx: run sudo aptitude remove packagekit kpackagekit, it will report to you the changes it is going to do before, pastebin it and we'll tell you17:29
daskreechjmichaelx: Then remove them17:30
daskreechotter_: Probably nepomuk or strigi not set up correctly17:31
jmichaelxdaskreech: the question was not whether or not i wanted to remove tem, the question was whether or not there would be any harm done in doing so17:31
daskreechI can't think of any but if there is a problem just add them back17:32
daskreechas long as you don't remove dpkg you should be ok17:32
vbgunz_does anybody have any idea why I suspend again after resuming the first time?17:32
jmichaelxdaskreech: ty for your input17:33
daskreechI rpm -e rpm once17:33
daskreechbad bad bad idea17:33
jmichaelxvbgunz_: does your machine wake up, then go right back down? my laptop is doing that as well in 4.417:33
jmichaelxdaskreech: lol, i can only imagine17:34
vbgunz_jmichaelx: exactly the same thing here but I am on a desktop.17:34
vbgunz_I can't believe more people dont suspend. it seems no one knows about this17:34
jmichaelxvbgunz_: power settings and related matters are very confusing right now in kubuntu... it seems that there are some options that appear very similar, but appear in more than one place17:35
jmichaelxand likely conflict, if one really knew what they did17:35
phrearchpretty impressive installer!17:36
vbgunz_jmichaelx: we're both going through exactly the same thing. im googling and can't find it17:37

WaltzingAlonghbbk: just uncheck the box next to play a sound on those two items18:59
WaltzingAlonghbbk: find it?19:00

codyOkay, so I just used "sudo apt-get install -f" because I was getting 'Software Index is Broken' error messages. Now I have sun java jre 6 up in the console installing or something. It is showing a semi-graphical interface and a license agreement. At the bottom it says <Ok> but pressing enter, typing 'ok' etc don't work.20:17
codyWow... never mind. I figured it out. You have to actually select things with the arrows keys20:18
Koliani1s: it is,20:28
Koliani1s: but i am looking for this: http://www.kde.org/announcements/4.4/screenshots/krunner-mediawiki.jpg20:29
Zorael^2Is there any way to shorten adding "&>/dev/null & disown %1" after applications launched from a bash shell? Perhaps prefix/suffix it with something else? I hear it doesn't have global aliases like zsh has.20:30

zeelot3khey, I think I saw 10.04 still having php 5.2.x, is there a reason the next release wouldn't have 5.3.x?20:43
MamarokKolia: you need to activate the Wikipedia plugin: Alt+F2, then click on the tool20:44
MamarokKolia: just don't expect instant results, it has to look up the internet first, so give it a few seconds :)20:46
Mamarokzeelot3k: maybe the people in #ubuntu+1 know20:47
KoliaMamarok: this is what i did but i get nothing20:48
KoliaMamarok: when typing "Amsterdam" like on the screenshot you get a result?20:48
MamarokKolia: works well here20:48
Mamarokyes, but it of course depends on the speed of your Internet connection20:48
Mamarokas I said above, give it a few seconds20:48
KoliaMamarok: i waited more than a few seconds and my connection is fast20:50
WaltzingAlongKolia: are you using the command or task orientated UI? should show up in both, but the screenshot shows in command orientated mode20:50
Koliaouch, krunner not responding anymore now :(20:50
KoliaWaltzingAlong: command oriented here too20:50
MamarokKolia, did you close the dialog and Alt+F2 again after checking the plugin?20:51
KoliaMamarok: working now!20:51
Koliai launched krunner from console this time20:52
KoliaMamarok: i closed the dialog and alt+f2 again when i enabled it20:52
Koliai wonder if restarting krunner is what made it work now20:52
KoliaMamarok: WaltzingAlong : thanks for your help20:53
MamarokKolia: you are welcome :)20:53

james_lhannibal101: I do sometimes.21:32
hannibal101how's the memory usage ?21:33
james_lI have 9.04 on an 8GB drive, split 4 GB ubuntu/ 4GB vfat, I can't install everything I'd like, but most things fit nicely on it. I'll probably upgrade that to 9.10, but just haven't gotten around to it. Memory usage in terms of RAM seems no different than off a hard drive (as it should)21:36

InvaderZimCan you tell me if it's planned to change starting cursor in kpackagekit at kde 4.4, because its a little annoying opening it and the search field not being already selected, so you have to click it. In 4.3 it was selected.23:56
