=== joerg__ is now known as joerg [14:02] morning all [14:04] morning mgariepy! [14:44] Morning all [14:51] morning sbalneav [16:32] what is edubuntu using for photomanagment? [16:33] The same as Ubuntu, f-spot I believe. [16:35] * Ahmuck-Sr is moving to showfoto i believe [16:44] k, nm [16:44] looks nice but functions bad [16:50] Ahmuck-Sr: I use both f-spot and gthumb [16:51] f-spot's quite nice, but It's a bit of a pain to keep two different f-spot installations in sync, owing to the "photos vs. metadata database" dichotomy [16:52] gthumb's nice in that it ONLY looks at the photos, unfortunately, if you want to tag a photo with a comment, it stores the comment as a .xml file in the directory with the photo, rather than embedding the comment in the photo the way f-spot does. [16:53] i need picasa's photo editing (simple and works) without all thier privacy issues [17:12] oops [17:12] closed konversation without knowing it [17:12] anywho, i've been using gwenview for viewing only [17:13] i find kde apps however void of gui icons for doing things [18:57] Meeting in 3 minutes? [19:07] meeting time ! [19:07] foo [19:07] there [19:55] It's looking more and more like I won't get to the handbook in time for release. But I'm thinking of taking the handbook wikifi-ing it, and I'll get some stuff together at about release time. [19:55] Does that seem okidokie with peoples [19:55] ? [19:55] handbook for what? [19:55] sbalneav: a wiki would be the best bet imho...so easy for people to contribute compared to other methods [19:56] sbalneav: +1, wiki seems nice for that [19:56] did we ever determine if we could go from moin->docbook in an automated way? [19:58] I think some converters exist, but they haven't been updated recently, so they'd need some maintaining [19:58] mhall119|work: Nothing "automated", I figure lets get the wiki thing started, and we'll burn the other bridge when we come to it. [19:59] I've been doing that alot lately, apparently ;) [19:59] i have edubuntu 7.04, i tried to sudo do-release-upgrade but i got some errors: http://ubuntu.pastebin.com/ELhB6nXq any help pls? [19:59] hoze: any reason you're using such an old version? [20:00] oh, nm hahaha [20:00] trying to fix that apparently ;) [20:00] yeah :) i got a laptop with that version installed [20:01] hoze: i dunno if this owuld help but are you totally up to date on 7.04? As in, apt-get update && apt-get dist-upgrade? [20:01] checking [20:02] 7.04 would try to upgrade to 7.10, which is out of support I think, that may be a problem [20:02] it seems to be [20:03] does your laptop have a DVD drive? [20:03] when i open the upgrade manager i have a button that 7.10 is available but it fails when i try to upgrade [20:04] no i dont, this is 9 inch monitor laptop :) [20:04] ah, a netbook [20:04] do you have a USB drive > 4.5 GB? [20:04] or however big a DVD is [20:04] The edubuntu dvd should fit in < 4 Gb... [20:05] i have 4gig atm [20:05] usb drive [20:05] perfect! [20:05] can i make it bootable from this version? [20:06] I don't think 7.04 included usb-creator [20:06] usb creator is available after 8.10 i think [20:07] try http://unetbootin.sourceforge.net/ [20:08] I don't know if it works with DVD images [20:08] i can make bootabe from my desktop [20:08] bootable* [20:08] so if not, just make a bootable Ubuntu 9.10 image, install then, then apt-get install the edubuntu packages [20:08] ttyl, ty [20:08] np [20:08] 1 more question [20:09] can i upgrade from the usb or i need a clean install [20:09] You can, but you'd need to go from 7.04 to 7.10 to 8.04 to 8.10 to 9.04 to 9.10 ;) [20:10] :) [20:10] Or, go from 8.04 to 10.04 (you can go from LTS to LTS) [20:10] there is a new lts??? [20:10] Not yet, it's in alpha 3 (tomorrow) [20:10] i'm on 8.04 at office, ill upgrade when itgets official [20:11] easiest to just do a clean install [20:11] But with the updates, you could stop in 8.04 until 10.04 is ready [20:11] backup any files you want to keep [20:11] ok, going on my desktop to create the usb [20:11] its new laptop, nothing i need here [20:11] thanx for the help [20:11] then don't bother with upgrading, do a clean install
