ccheneyyep i appear to not agree with cipro, i feel 100% today :)02:00
LaserJockccheney: allergic reaction?02:35
chrisccoulsonpitti - i've just uploaded the latest gnome-user-share to the ubuntu-desktop PPA. It adds a new Nautilus extension, so it would be great if you could test the impact of this on login speed before we decide whether to upload it for Lucid16:03
kklimondachrisccoulson: can you upload bug 529318? pretty nasty one ;)16:12
ubottuLaunchpad bug 529318 in transmission "Removing transmission-daemon breaks dpkg" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/52931816:12
chrisccoulsonkklimonda, yeah, will take a look at that once i get back16:13
kklimondaok, thanks16:13
chrisccoulson(i'm just about to leave the house for the first time today) ;)16:13
kklimondawell, if it's good or bad depends on where do you live? ;)16:13
kklimondamaybe it's only 7AM in your TZ or maybe it's already 5PM like here..16:14

arandAre there any changes proposed for the login sound-config in lucid, any possibility of python-gdm2setup by default?21:34
hamza no system devices (partitions, usb, cd/dvd drive) are showing in my nautilus, but they show in disk utility, any fix?21:42
RAOFrobert_ancell: Good morning!22:00
robert_ancellRAOF, hey!22:01
brycehheya RAOF22:03
RAOFbryceh: Good morning :)22:03

robert_ancellhamza, ask in #ubuntu22:07
TheMusoMorning robert_ancell, RAOF.22:08
robert_ancellTheMuso, good morning22:08
RAOFTheMuso: Good morning.22:09
* TheMuso breathes in the cool fresh air and looks forward to the cooler weather.22:09
arandAre there any changes proposed for the login sound-config in lucid, any possibility of python-gdm2setup by default?22:29
TheMusoarand: What do you mean by login sound config?22:30
arand43742922:32
arandoops... bug #437429 pretty much, (I was planning on trying to answer the last comment, would the answer be "none, use gdm2setup from ppa if you need it"?)22:34
ubottuLaunchpad bug 437429 in ubuntu-sounds "No GUI to configure/disable login sound" [Undecided,Invalid] https://launchpad.net/bugs/43742922:34
TheMusoRight its a gdm related issue then.22:35
arandTheMuso: Not -desktop you mean?22:36
TheMusoarand: Its to do with the desktop, but its something that has to bexposed by gdm configuration somehow.22:36
arandTheMuso: Since it being a rather common annoyance, and A fix being available in the python-gdm2setup I was wondering if any discussions had been made to make it more accesible than as of now when it's simpla in PPA?22:39
TheMusoarand: I don't know whats going on there, I am not involved with that part of Ubuntu development.22:41
rickspencer3RAOF, hi22:43
RAOFrickspencer3: Good morning/evening!22:43
rickspencer3robert_ancell, TheMuso do you guys know RAOF?22:43
lifelessarand: if there is a fix in the PPA, and the fix looks suitable, I suggest you prepare it for ubuntu and submit it to the sponsorship queue22:44
rickspencer3RAOF, this is your first day, right?22:44
RAOFrickspencer3: It is indeed.22:44
rickspencer3welcome!!22:44
lifelessRAOF: did we hire you ?22:44
TheMusorickspencer3: yes22:44
RAOFlifeless: You did indeed.22:44
lifelessRAOF: \o/22:44
RAOF:)22:44
lifelessabout time22:44
rickspencer3RAOF, and you are in Sydney, right?22:44
robert_ancellrickspencer3, sure do22:44
TheMusoRAOF: Congrats and welcome!22:44
RAOFrickspencer3: Yes.22:44
lifelessRAOF: OTOH it makes it even harder to have an ubuntu-motu get together that has community folk in sydney ;)22:44
RAOFlifeless: :)22:45
rickspencer3we have quite the Sydney contingent, as well as quite the contigent of people named "Chris" irl22:45
RAOFlifeless: Even harder when I move to Hobart!22:45
rickspencer3:)22:45
TheMusoGetting as bad as the steves.22:45
lifelessRAOF: I'm moving to nz :P22:45
rickspencer3lol22:45
lifelessdon't forget the matts22:46
RAOFI have the advantage of having an unusual surname.  I confuse computer systems with great reliability :)22:46
rickspencer3hehe22:46
rickspencer3RAOF, try being the "third"22:46
rickspencer3robert_ancell, TheMuso may I suggest RAOF ask you if they have any questions about this crazy job?22:47
robert_ancellsure can22:47
lifelesswas rickspencer1 taken? So you're the forth ?22:47
TheMusorickspencer3: sure22:47
rickspencer3lifeless, no22:48
rickspencer3not quite22:48
lifelessRAOF: you can ask me too; if you feel the need :>22:48
arandlifeless: Well, it's a separate application, and I'm not quite sure what the developer's plan is really: https://edge.launchpad.net/gdm2setup  It not being finished with all features is anoter thing I guess.. I was wondering if I should give it a mention on this blueprint?:https://blueprints.edge.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+spec/desktop-lucid-gdmsetup22:48
rickspencer3the deal is that my grandpa was the first Richard Spencer, then my dad, then me, then my boy22:48
lifelessrickspencer3: ah22:48
lifelessarand: getting a discussion going is key; things that are not discussed generally don't happen. (necessay, but not a sufficient condition)22:49
arandrobert_ancell: I saw you've been drafting that blueprint, have you had a look at  python-gdm2setup?22:50
rickspencer3arand, we are past Alpha 3 and Feature Freeze ...22:50
* TheMuso still doesn't understand the whole "name" -> "name jr" -> "name jr/3rd etc"22:50
TheMusoWhere si the originality in that? :)22:50
rickspencer3as the engineering manager I am trying to get folks to STOP ADDING features22:51
rickspencer3:)22:51
TheMusos/si/is/22:51
robert_ancellarand, gdm2setup will not become the default but we encourage adding it to universe so it is easily installable22:51
rickspencer3robert_ancell, arand is there anything we can do to help the gdm2setup team get there code into universe?22:53
crimsunwelp, hopefully those were the last two userspace alsa uploads for Lucid.22:57
rickspencer3robert_ancell, TheMuso, RAOF fyi, I am based in Florida this week, which will slide my schedule back a bit ...22:58
rickspencer3making it a bit harder for us to stay in sync this week22:59
TheMusocrimsun: Thanks dude. You've always been one step ahead of me. As soon as I start chacing up fixes, you've got them in before I even get to test build. :)22:59
rickspencer3crimsun, are you saying that you think pulse audio bits are finished for Lucid?22:59
robert_ancellrickspencer3, nice location :)22:59
rickspencer3robert_ancell, yeah, visiting my folks22:59
crimsunrickspencer3: PA should be fairly close, but no, I'm referring to the userspace alsa portion only.22:59
rickspencer3ah22:59
rickspencer3still, that's significant23:00
rickspencer3congrats TheMuso and crimsun23:00
RAOFTheMuso: You were looking into doing a ports version of linux-backports-modules-nouveau (specificly PPC), weren't you?  How's that going, if at all?23:00
TheMusoRAOF: Haven't got to it. Its actually not that difficult to do, just some packaging work, but I need to test build and test the packages proper on ppc hardware.23:01
TheMusoRAOF: Hopefully I can get to it tonight.23:02
rickspencer3RAOF, robert_ancell how would you guys feel about doing Eastern Edition at 8am your time on Wednesday just this one week?23:03
RAOFOk.  Give me a ping if you need any help there; I'd prefer it for nouveau to not regress for PPC users.23:03
rickspencer3TheMuso has an appointment that can't be moved23:03
robert_ancellrickspencer3, can do23:03
RAOFrickspencer3: I'm fine with that.23:03
rickspencer3great!23:03
TheMusoThanks guys.23:03
rickspencer3RAOF, do you know what the Eastern Edition is?23:04
TheMusoRAOF: ok thanks.23:04
rickspencer3it;s a recap of our weekly team meeting, timed to not be at a gawd awful hour for our friends in Syndey23:05
RAOFrickspencer3: I believe it's where all the crazy future Canonical guys call up & report status?23:05
TheMusolol23:05
* RAOF likes to think of Sydney as in the future.23:05
rickspencer3RAOF, right23:05
rickspencer3well, I also push information and we have discussions23:05
rickspencer3we are very meeting light23:06
TheMuso"I remember the future, like it was only yesterday..."23:06
rickspencer3it's pretty much the only meeting that we have23:06
rickspencer3TheMuso, lol23:06
TheMusorickspencer3: Actually thats a line of lyrics from a song.23:06
robert_ancellI got a painting for my office in the weekend: http://imagebin.ca/view/vUjSJUR.html23:06
rickspencer3robert_ancell, nice23:07
rickspencer3robert_ancell, I bet simple scan works pretty darn well on the scanner there23:08
robert_ancellrickspencer3, best supported model!23:08
rickspencer3lol23:08
robert_ancellshame it's an awful printer23:09
rickspencer3robert_ancell, they'll probably see an uptick of their sales in May, be like wtf?23:09
RAOFrobert_ancell: I notice that's an HP?  I'm in the market for a printer/scanner/etc thingy; got any recommendations?23:10
robert_ancellRAOF, HP seems the best supported in general, don't buy the cheap one like I did - it paper jams all the time.  So I'd expect $200 is about the sweet spot for a multi-function23:14
robert_ancellRAOF, (which of course you can claim as a work expense at tax time)23:14
RAOFrobert_ancell: IRght.23:14
lifelessis there an IWrong?23:15
* TheMuso already had a flatbed scanner, which is more portable than any multi-function device, so I invested in a mono lazer printer. Best printer investment ever.23:15
robert_ancellTheMuso, how much for a laser?  What are the running costs like?23:15
RAOFlifeless: No, but there's an IWong23:15
TheMusorobert_ancell: $200 for the printer with network capability. Don't know about running costs yet, only ad it for a few months, and since I do very little printing, the toner is likely to last me quite a while.23:15
* RAOF 's brother got a $90 laser two years ago or somesuch; hasn't had to replace the toner yet.23:15
NafaiRAOF, I've had one since 2001 and still haven't replaced the toner23:16
TheMusoThats also why I got a lazer. The toner won't dry up if left for a while.23:16
robert_ancellI'm thinking of getting a new printer, so a laser might be a good investment23:16
rickspencer3robert_ancell, thanks for your great contributions to the Featured Applications blueprint23:20
rickspencer3you sir, are awesome23:20
robert_ancellrickspencer3, oh, I installed them all in the weekend and I've got a writeup I'm going to send to the desktop mailing list23:21
rickspencer3wow!23:21
* rickspencer3 bugs eyes23:21
robert_ancellI have a menu full of apps :)23:21
rickspencer3so basically, it will "Robert's Featured Apps"23:21
rickspencer3we could do worse :)23:21
TheMusolol23:22
robert_ancellthe wiki page is open for additions :)23:22
arandrobert_ancell: Okay to just edit away with some additions to https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DesktopTeam/Lucid/FeaturedApps ??23:42
robert_ancellarand, yes, of course!23:42
Sarvattsurprised neverball and openarena aren't on the games list :)23:51
robert_ancellSarvatt, add them!23:59
