[05:04] Why does DESKTOP DRAPES not startup when my computer restarts? It is listed in my startup applications. It is also set to do so in its preferences. [13:53] hi, I'm having connection problems with ubuntu studio, my b43 wireless card, and my home network [13:57] I installed the firmware with b43cutter [13:58] by hand, not with the app [13:59] it seems to authenticate, then disconnect itself with reason 3 [14:00] I dont know where to find what reason 3 is? [14:00] thats from dmesg | tail [14:01] I have a ping open to my gateway... [14:02] it says destination unreachable [14:02] most of the time [14:03] i has litle stable moments where it replys pings between 42ms and 2.6ms [14:04] its pinging it at about 80/6ms now.. [14:06] I really wish I could cut and paste to a pastebin right now.. [20:02] Hi there! [21:10] I have setup jackd as on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/HowToJACKConfiguration, jackd starts fine (i have xrun every now and then), but when I run, for instance, Rosegarden, and play a score, I hear no sound! I see the connections qjackctl dialog (audio and alsa, but no midi?), everything seems to be working, I just hear no sound. Audacious, mplayer, hydrogen and others work fine. I have Ubuntu 9.04, but installed all the [21:10] ubuntu-studio packages as on https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudioPreparation. [21:12] heyy MmikeDOMA [21:12] it could be this simple... [21:12] rosegarden itself does not produce sounds [21:12] you need to route it to software synths [21:13] if your able to hear audio otherwise [21:13] and softsynths [21:13] i think thats the issue [21:13] i dont have a lot of experience with rosegarden either [21:13] i usually just use ardour myself [21:14] BUT i can confirm thats the way rosegarden works [21:14] i fired it up and routed it to some softsynths and got it working [21:15] MmikeDOMA: vist #opensourcemusicians [21:15] holstein, do you know how can I verify that jackd is running properly, is there any other app I can use to play some music (i'll deal with rosegarden later) [21:15] ok, I will, thank you [21:15] hmm [21:16] you could try anything really [21:16] maybe fire up ardour [21:16] Name one :) [21:16] ok, hang on :) [21:16] and import a wav [21:17] do I need to have qsynth running? (i don't have any specialized music hardware) [21:17] nah [21:17] not for ardour [21:17] just import some kind of audio file into ardour [21:17] and then do your routing in jack [21:17] qjackctl [21:17] and you should hear it playback [21:18] if your comfortable with qsynth [21:18] that might be easier [21:18] you need a soundfont [21:18] for midi sounds [21:18] you can try running zynaddsubfx [21:19] that makes sounds out of the box [21:19] Ardour works! [21:19] BUT it was crashing jack on me a while back [21:19] MmikeDOMA: sweet! [21:19] I didn't do anything in qjacktl [21:19] so your god [21:19] Yes, thnx :) [21:19] good* [21:19] ive heard good things about Qtractor [21:20] but i have not looked at it yet [21:20] But. what exactley is qsynth for? I have some clue, but I don't understand where does it 'plugs'. Do I still need jackd? [21:20] What is qtractor? [21:20] ok, i read [21:20] neat! [21:20] i have been told by serveral folks that they prefer the workflow and layout of Qtractor to rosegarden [21:21] you'll want to run qjackctl for everything i think [21:21] qsynth just plays soundfonts [21:21] imagine [21:21] qsynth is kinda like the hardware in a keyboard synth [21:22] that allows you to use and communicate with different sounds [21:22] same idea [21:22] you can load different 'sound banks' (prettymuch) in there [21:23] So, do I need that to hear music that I imported to rosegarden or noteedit or something like that? [21:23] and route into/out of them with jack [21:23] sure [21:23] you can... [21:23] have rosegarden [21:23] routed into Qsynth [21:24] routed out to your soundcards out [21:24] rosegarden reads the MIDI data [21:24] sends it to Qsynth [21:24] Qsynth sends it to whatever sound [21:24] and it comes out through jack [21:25] i think you can use rosegarden to [21:25] change patches [21:25] and other stuff in Qsynth as well [21:25] to make it easier to use [21:25] BUT like i said, i havnet really done much of it [21:25] MIDI that is [21:29] holstein, thnxs for the info, now at least i understand what am I looking for :) [21:29] good luck MmikeDOMA :) [21:29] http://qjackctl.sourceforge.net/qjackctl-ss1.html [21:30] here is kind of an overview of the different windows and settings in qjackctl [21:30] I mean, it worked on older ubuntu, it should work here! :) [21:30] OH [21:30] ok [21:31] well, you'll get it sorted out soon then :) [21:31] just a couple UI changes and some defaults changed i bet [21:45] GOT SOUND! [21:45] :) [21:46] I needed to 'patch' rosegarden out to fluidsynth trough jackd! [21:48] poszedł [21:51] holstein, it's even more easy. Rosegarden allready 'patched' everythig to miditrough-in, i just needed to patch miditrough-out to fluidsynth
