CIA-3ubiquity: superm1 * r3863 ubiquity/ (bin/ubiquity debian/changelog): Raise permissions for misc.execute calls in bin/ubiquity.00:28
CIA-3ubiquity: superm1 * r3864 ubiquity/ (debian/changelog ubiquity/frontend/base.py): Don't allow oem-user-config and oem-config to both be enabled.00:39
evDoh. In ripping out large parts of ubiquity-dm, I seem to have forgotten about setting the locale on ubiquity exit. Fixing now.09:40
cjwatsonhmm, gfxboot is falling through to booting from the local disk on timeout from the splash screen. that's wrong10:48
davmor2cjwatson: I'm going to try a kvm experiment if it works we could get to the bottom of the blkid issue without resorting to ssh :)11:15
cjwatsonok11:15
davmor2ev: is it know that today's installer at least in kvm is displaying no slides11:32
evdavmor2: can you pastebin your syslog please?11:33
davmor2ev: http://paste.ubuntu.com/38755311:36
evah, I see what you mean (tested it myself)11:38
evbah11:38
davmor2all you get is the grey right?11:39
davmor2ev: I'll try it on hw for you after incase it's just a vm thing11:39
evI don't believe it is11:40
davmor2meh install broken dpkg erroe11:42
davmor2error even11:42
evseems to be the result of a recent change to webkit (1.1.21 works fine)11:52
* ev digs further11:52
davmor2my bag on the dpkg error didn't make the / partition big enough12:17
evright, so the slideshow issue seems to be a security check that's failing. Something is making the XMLHttpRequest think the request is coming from a different origin, or at least that what I gather from looking at the webkit source.12:34
davmor2cjwatson: Yay blkid issue is reproducible in kvm. install ubu manually create 3 primary partition one for /, /home and swap. Then do an install over that one using whole drive.12:40
davmor2done it twice and died both times12:41
cjwatsonok, cool12:42
cjwatsonwill try that later ...12:42
cjwatsonthanks!12:42
cjwatsonev: we need to not show the intro screen in maybe-ubiquity mode, I think12:42
cjwatsonany way we can put the intro text alongside the "Install Ubuntu" text? only up to beta of course12:43
evcjwatson: I had contemplated that but thought that, given that we're not in beta yet, we might want to show them that message still12:43
evah, good thinking12:43
evwill do12:43
cjwatsonthere seems to be plenty of room12:43
evindeed there is12:43
cjwatsonI wonder if we might want to change the title too12:43
cjwatson(from "Install")12:43
evindeed, suggestions? "Welcome to Ubuntu 10.04"?12:44
evthough repeating welcome seems a bit silly12:44
cjwatsonseems plausible-ish, not sure ...12:44
evmichaelforrest: ?12:45
evoh, I think he went for lunch12:45
evwell, either way, I'll sort it out12:46
evthanks12:46
cjwatsonev: oh, and at this point it will be worth putting the intro message somewhere where it can be translated :-)13:09
cjwatsonwe could maybe get rid of the intro page entirely, at least for GTK, as it seems to fit on the language page now either way13:09
michaelforresthi. can't really make sense of this conversation..13:35
evcjwatson: yeah, definitely13:55
evmichaelforrest: we're speaking of the first page that comes up when running the installer before beta, the one that says:13:57
evThis is a pre-release of the Ubuntu live CD installer. It is not a final release; that will come with the final release of Ubuntu 10.04 in April 2010.13:57
evThe installation process may resize or erase partitions on your hard disk. Be sure to take a full backup of any valuable data before running this program.13:57
michaelforrestok - I guess I don't really have an opinion about that screen since it doesn't go into the final thing anyway13:58
evsure, but what do you think the greeter should be titled?13:58
evit's currently "Install"13:59

mterryev, is startup disk creator working for you in lucid?14:49
evmterry: what issue are you having?14:53
mterryev, "Failed to install the bootloader"14:54
evmterry: can you pastebin your ~/.usbcreator.log?14:56
evand /root/.usbcreator.log (ugh, I need to fix that)14:58
mterryev, technical problems caused delay, but here it is: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/387647/15:08
evah, I think I see the problem15:12
evI see the problem15:17
evthe partition is mounted when we try to set it as bootable in the partition table15:17
evwhich parted exited nonzero on, which triggers the exception15:17
evnot sure how this ever worked before now15:17
* ev works on a fix15:17
mterryev, :) thanks15:26
evmterry: if you need it to work *right now*, wrap popen(['/sbin/parted', parent, 'set', str(num), 'boot', 'on']) (in usb-creator-helper) in a try/except/pass clause.15:27
mterryev, thanks!15:27
crow_hello can you help me with asus k50in lap top and ubuntu 10,04 alfa 3 i cant install OS15:28
evcrow_: what's failing?15:29
crow_First problem is I can not see GUI when I start Live CD. I solved that problem with F6 nomodeset. When I install Ubuntu and try start OS I got this15:30
crow_I got a 6 desktops and I can fix that display is freez15:32
evI don't follow. Are you implying that you were able to get to the installer and through it, you're just having issues post-install? Or did the installer crash at some point?15:33
crow_installer work if i boot live cd with F6 nomodeset15:36
crow_when I finish installation and reboot I cant enter in ubntu15:36
evcrow_: I'm afraid we only deal with issues with the installer here. However, you might want to make sure you have nomodeset on your kernel command line in grub by holding down shift when you start the computer. Hit 'e' on the first entry, then add nomodeset at the end of the kernel line.15:40
crow_ok thanks I try15:42
evcrow_: I would suggest filing a bug against 'xorg' or 'linux' in launchpad, following the instructions at the bottom of this page: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/X/KernelModeSetting15:42
evshtylman: apply to become an Ubuntu member already!16:44
* ev shakes his fist16:44
ev:)16:44
shtylmanev: yea yea... I know... im lazy :p16:51
shtylmanI need to catch one of those meeting times16:51
evyou sure do16:53

CIA-3ubiquity: Move the alpha warning for the GTK+ frontend to the language page.17:28
CIA-3ubiquity: It fits better there now that we have the greeter functionality.17:28
CIA-3ubiquity: evand * r3866 ubiquity/ubiquity/components/ubi-language.py: slight refactoring on previous commit.17:31
shtylmanev: the greeter you have... does the kde side need something similar?17:55
evshtylman: yes17:56
evshtylman: is that something you have time for?17:56
shtylmanev: yea..I can tackle it this weekend17:56
evyou rock17:57
shtylmanis it just a plugin?17:57
shtylmanhow does it interface with everything else?17:57
evshtylman: it's part of ubi-language18:01
shtylmanev: noted18:01
evshtylman: I have to unbreak it for oem-config, so watch out for those changes (will hopefully get to that tonight)18:05
shtylmanev: k... I also need to figure out how you prevent the desktop from loading... if you do currently (from the screenshot it appears so)18:06
evshtylman: all of that is done by non-frontend-specific code18:06
shtylmanev: cool18:07
ev(the bottom of bin/ubiquity-dm if you're curious)18:07
shtylmancurious indeed :)18:07
superm1ev, what else has to be unbroken for oem-config w/ it though?18:08
superm1oem-config uses a different language page18:08
evsuperm1: it uses a different ui file, but not a different ubi-language.py18:10
evand the code I landed assumes some things from the regular ui file exist, and doesn't guard against that with a check for oem-config.18:11
superm1oh this must be recent commits then related to the intro page stuff18:12
ev(It was not my intention to upload it in this state; I only realized this morning that I had failed to do this everywhere)18:12
