benomatictricky question.  I have a backup (mysql db + original files) of my mythbuntu-9.04 (myth 0.21) db.  since then i have a clean mythbuntu-9.10 machine running 0.22, setup from scratch.  can i somehow merge all my old stuff from the 0.21 installation?00:34
benomatici assume the hardest part is any sql schema changes, but i have just started looking.00:34
benomaticsecond question: mythfilldatabase doesn't seem to be auto-running in my new installation; where is this configured so that i can set it up properly?00:35
superm1benomatic, mythbuntu.org/upgrading explains how to load the new stuff in00:36
superm1benomatic, the schema updates happen automatically next time you start the backend00:37
benomaticsuperm1: i figured that the in-place schema changes "just work", but i wonder how to apply the schema update process to my backed-up db, so that i can merge it into existing one00:38
superm1benomatic, merging is asking for trouble00:38
superm1you are better off dropping the new db00:38
superm1and inserting your old onw00:38
superm1and letting schema updates happen on their own00:39
benomaticurg.  perhaps i will do a backup of current, try to upgrade old, then backup, so they're at least both in same schema.  then i could play the merge game :)00:42
superm1trust me, you really dont want to play the merge game00:42
superm1the schema update works on it's own from 0.21->0.22 schema updates00:43
benomaticwhy do you say that?  have you tried?00:43
superm1unless you have very particular tools for comparing the differences and feel like reading code, it's gonna be a waste of your time00:44
benomatic(perhaps foolishly i'm not too afraid of sql, having done lots of it elsewhere)00:44
benomatichrm00:44
superm1it's not gonna buy you any benefit since the schema updates are otherwise automatic00:44
benomaticperhaps i was a bit unclear -- i have shows in both dbs that i'd like to keep.  i don't want to manually update the schema... just keep all my shows :)00:45
superm1ah that wasn't clear at all00:49
superm1then you should just backup the table containing all those shows you want to keep and write off the rest of the data from one of the installs00:49
superm1merging in one table is doable00:49
benomaticexcellent.00:51
benomatici will start the backup current, restore old, backup old process now and see how that goes :)00:51
benomaticsuperm1: so... is there anything to do other than merge in the 'recorded' table?01:44
benomatici think i've got everything setup :)01:44
superm1that's all you should need, but you might want the oldrecorded too01:45
benomaticgracias :)01:46
benomaticsuperm1: i have them all!  thanks :)02:05
superm1great!02:08
pteaguenow i see what my problem is...  the upgrade process changed uid & gids in /etc/passwd, /etc/group, & /etc/shadow & now that they don't match across boxes mythtv (or perhaps the upgrade process while the nfs directories are mounted) sets permissions to the local boxes mythtv:mythtv which changes what's on the backend02:50
boneliferCan anyone suggest a USB wireless G dongle that just works on a plain install of MythBuntu?03:20
=== jst is now known as jst_
jst_Anyone here using Comcast or FiOS?  I know they have some, uhm, idiosyncrasies.  I'm just curious as to what your solutions are... HD-PVR, Firewire capture, etc.05:29
rhpot1991jst_: I use comcast, whats up?06:17
jst_Do you use DTA converters or HDPVR or what?06:18
rhpot1991my hardware is listed here: http://mythbuntu.org/developer-hardware06:18
jst_Sweet... What do you mean by "Tuners 7-8: Daisy Chained Firewire Controlled Motorolla DCH3200?"06:20
jst_Is that what connects to your HD-PVR?06:21
rhpot1991well one of them is hooked up to the HD-PVR06:21
rhpot1991but they are both hooked up as firewire devices, so I can record off both of them06:21
rhpot1991daisy-chained is one wire into one, then another wire from stb 1 to stb 206:22
jst_Ahh, so you're recording non-5C stuff with them?06:22
jst_STB -> 1394 -> MythBox?06:22
rhpot1991I used to, before I got my HDPVR06:22
rhpot1991now I don't really need to, but they are still there for conflicts and such06:23
jst_Wait, can you use one HDPVR with two STBs?06:23
jst_I'm confused.06:23
rhpot1991no06:23
jst_heh06:23
rhpot19912 stbs06:23
rhpot1991both connected by firewire06:23
rhpot1991one of them also connected to a hdpvr06:23
rhpot1991my main tuners are my HDHR and HDPVR06:23
rhpot1991the others don't get used so much anymore06:23
jst_Ahh, I see.06:24
jst_I was mistaken about how the HDPVR works, but that makes sense.06:24
rhpot1991I use the firewire connection to tune the stb for the hdpvr as well06:24

Zinn[images17.newegg.com]06:26
jst_I'm not seeing a Firewire port on there... Can you use USB to tune?06:26
jst_Oh wait, USB sends the stream to your 'puter.06:26
rhpot1991ya usb to your computer, firewire from your computer to the stb06:28
rhpot1991jst_: heading to bed, if you have any other questions feel free to ask, someone else may help, or you can ping me tomorrow06:41
jst_Ok, thanks for your help.06:41
jst_I accidentally marked something as "never record," and it's not showing up under Recording Rules... Is there any way to remove "never record" rules?08:22
Geoff918I'm getting an "Irrecoverable Player Error" on Mythbuntu. I can't find any information about this via Google, MythTV forums, or Mythbuntu forums. Anybody familiar?20:52
rhpot1991Geoff918: check your logs?20:53
Geoff918Yes, I can pastebin something if you'd like20:54

mrandGeoff918: upstream has shifted most of their focus to 0.23.  If you aren't already on auto-builds for 0.22, you might try that.  Otherwise, I'm afraid you'll need to try 0.23 (which is also available via auto-builds, but back up your database first!) before filing a bug report.  capturing a -v playback might yield more info as well.  Looks like the error  in the log is:21:55
mrand2010-03-04 15:11:52.947 NVP(1), Error: Unknown recorder error, exiting decoder21:55
mrandJust a fly by comment.  bbl21:55
mrand(btw, 0.23 hasn't been released yet... that's still a few weeks out probably)21:56
