qman__I update the desktops first week or two, wait a little longer for the servers00:00
AnRkey8.04.4 is still rocking for me here00:00
AnRkeyi ran into a brick wall with 9.1000:00
AnRkeyi need to be more patient00:00
AnRkeywaiting is best00:00
qman__9.10 was a bit bumpy for some, personally I didn't have any problems, but I know others who did00:00
AnRkeymy desktop was shweet00:01
qman__I've been upgrading this desktop since 7.10 every cycle00:01
AnRkeythe thing that got me most upset though was that super+e key can not be bound to nautilus anymore00:01
qman__my biggest nitpick is that I really don't like amarok 2, at all00:02
qman__and now I can't get a music player I like00:02
qman__hoping exaile will get progress soon00:02
AnRkeyi feel the same way about winamp00:02
AnRkeynow i dont like winamp either00:02
AnRkeyi'm on a winblows 7 desktop now00:02
AnRkeybrushing up on it a bit00:03
qman__ah, my windows box runs XP00:03
AnRkey7 is quite nice00:03
AnRkeyMS got it right00:03
AnRkeyimho00:03
AnRkeyi miss 8.04 though00:03
AnRkeythat was my best00:03
AnRkeyeverything just worked for me00:03
qman__I don't like all the junk they added00:03
AnRkeymaybe was just luck00:04
qman__to be perfectly honest, I'd be using windows 2000 if app compatibility wasn't so poor these days00:04
AnRkeyi removed all the desktop crap and so on00:04
AnRkeyhehe, i have 17 x 2000 boxes left00:04
qman__I only use windows for games anyway, so it doesn't really matter00:04
AnRkeyi miss the shell00:04
qman__yeah, bash is where it's at00:05
AnRkeycant wait for lucid, cause then i'm going back00:05
AnRkeyshould know 7 by then00:05
AnRkeyi often open up cmd prompt and start "bashing" only to realise where i am :(00:05
qman__I do the same thing00:05
qman__cmd is so useless00:05
AnRkeywell, with the gnu tools installed i sometimes manage00:06
AnRkeyit's not the same though :(00:06
AnRkeywoot00:06
AnRkeybox is rebooting00:06
AnRkeycan go sleep soon00:07
AnRkey2:07am here :(00:07
AnRkeyrolling a blunt before bed quick :D00:07
qman__hah00:07
qman__it's only 1900 here00:08
AnRkeyis it friday though ?00:08
AnRkeyit's sat morning here00:09
qman__yes00:09
AnRkeythen u'r set man :)00:09
AnRkeyi'm going to shoot stuff with shotguns in the morning, my mates and i are going to a range00:09
qman__nice00:09
AnRkeyhehe, i'm just a 30 year old kid00:09
AnRkeywinchester 1300 defender00:10
AnRkeywoot headers are installed00:10
AnRkeydude, i owe u one ;)00:10
qman__no problem, glad it works00:10
AnRkeywell make install is running now00:11
AnRkeyand app is built00:11
AnRkeyand the barcodes start printing :D00:11
AnRkeyshweet, now i can go sleep00:11
AnRkeyk, g'night00:11
RoAkSoAxzul, for example, in vsftpd, what should the hook includes besides the conffile? I was putting the .log and that's pretty much it01:01
RoAkSoAxis that enough?01:01

herberoHi all, so I am reinstalling and re-partitioning my RAID setup after a dismal...dismal failure06:15
herberoI wanted to run it by someone to make sure I am doing it right06:15
herberocan someone lend me their ears?06:15
dns53you can ask, i'm not an expert06:17
uvirtbotNew bug: #533119 in qemu-kvm (main) "package qemu-kvm 0.12.3-0ubuntu6 failed to install/upgrade: " [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/53311906:21
dns53what i have done with my file server is have boot and the os on a separate non raid drive and use raid 10 and lvm on top of that06:22
herberodns53: interesting06:23
dns53what you probably should do is have a 100mb boot partition on one of the drives at least, maybe on all of them and copy the data between them06:24
dns53grub2  might help with booting problems06:24
herberodns53: so, how woudl that work in the partition editor? I was doing 2G across 2 drives as /boot and then mirroring it, and then RAID 5 across 3 drives so... /dev/md0 was sda1 and sdb1, and RAID 5 was sda2 adb2 sdc2 and sdd206:25
herberobut you are recommending putting /boot on an entirely non-RAID drive or just a non-raid partition?06:25
dns53non raid partition at least, i think it is possible to have everything in raid but you could have problems with grub06:27
herberoI did last time06:27
dns53i bought a cheap hard disk for my os after messing things up before06:27
herberoI think if RAID or hd crashes, I could at least salvage /boot from partition 106:27
herberothat is non-raid06:27
herberoless to configure too06:27
dns53i've heard that you could have a raid 1 /boot partition and have grub installed on both partitions so it is redundant but i have not tried it myself06:28
herberodns53: mine was that, lasted about a year and then MASSIVE grub failure when I lost a disk...I could get RAID 1 back but not /boot or my OS06:30
herberowas forced to attempt recovery from livecd06:30
dns53did you install grub on both disks?06:31
herberodns53: well, it was mirrored, but only sda1 was set to use /boot06:31
herberoso06:33
herberoit was on both disks, but really it was established on sda106:33
dns53you should be able to boot a live cd and mount your data06:34
ninjahI just installed ubuntu 8.04 i386 and it won't boot on my laptop. It says "This kernel requires the following features not present on the CPU: 0:6"06:34
ninjahAny ideas?06:34
dns53what laptop? strange error, might be that you have an atom cpu or something06:35
ninjahno06:35
ninjahthink pad06:35
ninjahold one06:35
herberodns53: nah a disk failed, and when I resynced must have dones something screwy cuz I had tons of superblock errors and fs errors06:37
dns53it was using software raid? and you failed a disk and rebuilt it?06:40
herberodns53: aye06:40
herberodns53: so how does this look for a RAID 5 setup? sda1 2G /boot sda2 500gb K RAID, sda3 498.2gb K RAID, sdb1 2G swap, sdb2 500gb k RAID, sdb3 498.2gb K RAID, sdc1 2G swap, sdc 2 500gb K RAID, sdc3 498.2 K RAID, sdd1 2G swap, sdd2 500g k RAID, sdd3 498.2g K RAID06:43
herberodns53: so /dev/md0 RAID 5 is sda2 sda3, sdb2, sdb3, sdc2, sdc3, sdd2 and sdd306:43
dns53so why sda3, sdb3  sdc3?06:46
herberodns53: I geuss you are right, but I was going to have separate /home / partitions o06:46
herberobut I prolly don't need to do that06:46
dns53i do that by putting lvm2 on top of md0, so i have a raid of /dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdd /dev/sde in a raid 10, and then have lots of lvm2 partitions split into /home and several storage partitions06:48
dns53that will hopefully allow me to buy another 4 disks, create another raid 10, add that to the existing lvm and then increasing the partitions06:49
herberodns53: not sure I can hack lvm on top of RAID, RAID gave me a lot of troubles alone. But I am told LVM makes it easier to switch out volumes as you grow the array and ass stuff gets freaky and weird06:50
herberodns53: is it feasible to just do sda2 sdb2 sdc2 and sdd2 as all mounted /06:50
herbero?06:50
herberoI mean, without LVM?06:50
dns53you need something to combine the disks, so either raid or lvm06:51
dns53i'd prefer lvm but that does not support raid 506:52
herberodns53: right, but if sda2 sdb2 sdc2 and sdd2 are all RAID, then it should sync everything ...and I will externally backup the rest on my sde106:52
herberoatleast whatever I can fit06:52
dns53i think you create a /dev/md0 device, and you can then partition that into partitions06:53
sherrninjah: that error is either you booting a 64 bit kernel, or a PAE kernel (or something), on a machine that does not support it i.e. wrong kernel type.07:00
qman__ninjah, how old? "Ubuntu i386" is actually i686, so if your CPU isn't at least an i686 it installs but fails on the next boot07:04
qman__you need to install the linux-image-(version)-386 kernel for older than i68607:05
digitalfizi was wondering if anybody knew what setup i had to have to make it so php scripts run in apache would be run under a specified user like cpanel does08:14
kaushalhi08:14
digitalfizi herd of suphp but theres baaaad talks about the performance hit you get from it. i dont have a cpanel server to inspect08:15

vegar_Hi, I don't know if this is the right place to ask, but I am trying to find out if there is an UPNP/DLNA server for ubuntu which can stream LastFM radio to its clients?16:13
vegar_My TV set supports DLNA and Mediatomb does an excellent job of sharing my videos. It would be plain awesome if I could also make mediatomb stream lastfm music to the tv16:14
vegar_I know that mediatomb 0.12 supports scrobbling, but I suspect that's scrobbling/submission only, not streaming16:15

BulleTh0Hi. I installed 2 internet extra cards a while ago, and it seems are not working properly. I configured them prperly in /etc/network/interfaces, restarted and ifconfig looked ok. If I unplug the first network card, i don't have ping on the ips. If I unplug any of the other 2, I still have ping on each of the 3 ips18:34

tonedevfI've got a puzzling situation here... I have a machine running Jaunty server that refuses to work with more than 1 IP addresse at a time.  I've tried the usual methods for binding multiple IPs to one nic, installing multiple nics and binding one IP to each, and i've even tried installing Karmic but to no avail.  Whenever a second eth is brought up, at least one ip stops responding. any ideas?20:37
tonedevfIt is an older-ish HP server, but this problem occurs both with the original NICs as well as new Intel Pro/1000 nics.  I've got other ubuntu boxes connected to the same switch binding to multiple IP addresses just fine.20:37
tonedevfThanks in advance for any help : )20:38
