[BG]ZloboMiRhi15:56
axleI've got a problem with creating a launcher on the desktop... there is a executable file that launches a program, and i need to create a launcher for this executable. the problem is, it needs to be executed from inside it's directory to work. and giving the launcher a command like "cd /go/to/dir && ./executable" does not work... a sh.-file which does the same works fine, only i can't give it a different icon :/15:59

millman12345ok so i have a question that maybe someone could help me with... i don't think it's xubuntu specific, but maybe someone can help nonetheless... whenever i plug in first start my laptop up, it won't automatically mount my usb flash drive the first few times i plug it in... sometimes i have to plug it in 10-12 times over the course of 5-10 minutes before it'll properly identify it as a mass storage device... it doesn't even show19:26
millman12345up in my /dev so i can't even manually mount it... when i plug it in and do a "dmesg" I get usb 2-1: new full speed USB device using uhci_hcd and address "x" (where x increases by one every time I plug it in)... eventually i get the "Initializing USB Mass Storage driver..." message, but not ever within the first 5 minutes of trying... after it correctly detects it that first time, it automatically detects it perfectly every sub19:26
millman12345sequent time after that, until I restart the computer... then it does it all over again19:26
millman12345it's also worth noting that I'm on an old laptop with only usb 1.1 functionality and it's a usb 2.0 flash stick... but that shouldn't make a difference in theory... and like i said, once it works once, it works fine every time after that... also i am using the uhci_hcd module and i don't even have the ehci_hcd module loaded (i only say that because most people say it is a problem with the ehci_hcd module so i tried to do an rmm19:29
millman12345od for that module but it says it's not even installed in the first place... so that's not it)19:29
millman12345unfortunately, I can't stick around, but please feel free to post any suggestions to the channel and I will check the log later... thank you ahead of time19:32

mr_pouityeah? so you removed it today at 14:52:5321:58
knomeline 2153: Removing xchat ...21:58
mr_pouitreinstalled at 14:55:3121:58
mr_pouitand removed again at 14:56:5221:59
KangaroooDate: Wed, 28 Oct 2009 14:23:09 UTC  its in first file. but u say xchat already from 8.04 in xubuntu? i cant remember now but maybe it also wasnt in 8.0421:59
mr_pouitso it was installed :}21:59
charlie-tcaKangarooo: please stop trying to pick everything apart22:00
Kangarooois all aptitude commands showing in there? all i did i installed couse it wasnt installed and removed and installed again and removed again with aptitude install/remove22:00
mr_pouit(it is installed by default since intrepid btw)22:00
Kangarooono this is serious bug then. tomorow ill post the same that dpkg -l '*xchat*' from another pc22:01
mr_pouitpleas don't22:01
mr_pouitit is installed by default in xubuntu, please stop arguing about that22:01
Kangaroooits showing that it was removed before that it was installed and before that removed but theres missing one more install.22:02
mr_pouitwell, it can't be removed if it wasn't installed first…22:02
knomeKangarooo, it is installed by default. end of conversation.22:02
Kangaroooi think maybe someone who knows aptitude can tell why that one install is missing22:03
Kangarooono its not22:03
Kangaroootry urself dl iso and try cd22:03
Kangaroooi have 2 cds of same image iso22:03
mr_pouitno, you try22:03
knomeKangarooo, finding bugs for us is great, but sometimes when you try too hard, it only gives us more work. which means we are not able to fix that many bugs.22:03
knomeKangarooo, charlie-tca downloads the iso's EVERY DAY and tests them. xchat IS installed by default.22:03
Kangarooook ill now go to live cd and do the same command ok? ill be in pidgin after 10 min22:04
mr_pouitlook at http://cdimages.ubuntu.com/xubuntu/releases/karmic/release/xubuntu-9.10-desktop-i386.manifest, it's the list of package contained in the cd22:04
mr_pouit*packages22:04
mr_pouitand xchat is in there22:04
Kangaroooyes xchat is listed in manifest 2 files located in file:///media/cdrom0/casper/filesystem.manifest-desktop22:05
Kangarooobut as i sayd ill be in 10min in pidgin with live cd22:06
ryan_i've tried adding a script to /Desktop/Autostart, which moved it to .config/autostart, with a desktop file - neither worked, and i tried a ~/.xinitrc22:07
mr_pouitbut you can keep on being convinced that xchat isn't installed by default, even if it's wrong :)22:07
mr_pouitryan_: what are you trying to do?22:07
ryan_file, im trying to run xmodmap, when the xfce session starts22:07
ryan_to remap some keys22:07
mr_pouitryan_: mmh, a .Xmodmap file doesn't work?22:07
ryan_i have an xmodmap file22:08
ryan_which is part of a git repo22:08
mr_pouitI don't remember exactly, I'm not sure if it's taken into account by xfce4-settings or not22:08
ryan_so i wanted to tell xmodmap to look there, explicitly22:08
ryan_i guess, i could symlink it22:08
ryan_well im here,22:10
ryan_im also trying to22:10
ryan_set that dontzap feature22:10
ryan_on session startup22:11
ryan_setxkbmap -option terminate:ctrl_alt_bksp22:11
ryan_i found that, which works for me22:11
ryan_but where should i put it , to get it to run ?22:11
xchati am not installed on clean system. kangaroo is right22:20
mr_pouit22:21
knomeKangarooo, hello. can i PM you?22:27
Kangaroooyes now im back in installed system. it was in live cd so im assuming that its also installed on other pcs also and it was installed on mine but i havent seen it maybe thats my blindspot. and it wasnt showing that i was installing it 2x couse it was already installed22:29
Kangaroooin that var/ log file22:29
Kangarooohttp://www.zimagez.com/zimage/screenshot637.php# theres next to clock Mixer and left to him new icon that wasnt after update yesterday.22:44
Kangarooobut now it showed up and 1. why did it came up? 2. cant remove it left clicking it.22:45
charlie-tcaThat icon came from the developer adding the notify-osd stuff to xfce mixer22:49
Kangarooowow mixer properties also different22:49
mr_pouitwhich icon exactly?22:49
mr_pouitthe one with a red cross,22:49
mr_pouit?22:49
Kangaroooyes22:49
mr_pouitafaik, it's the gnome mixer22:50
charlie-tcaI think you can get rid of it by opening Applications -> Session and Startup -> go to Application Autostart tab, uncheck Volume Control22:50
charlie-tcaBut it really doesn't make any difference, either, if it stays there22:51
Kangarooohmm i think i today saw that when i change volume u know then comes up notifier.. it had red cross and still sound coming but now when i try to replicate that pressing on keyboard mute and also making sound to max now i cant.22:56
Kangarooook that maybe someone else will be able to replicate now i cant anymore but new bug i got. mute doesnt un-mute22:56
charlie-tcaIt happens when you restart. I don't know how to reproduce it except restarting, though22:56
charlie-tcaThen you have to left-click the speaker, unmute in properties, click close22:57
Kangaroooanother strange thing .. i closed that new icons properties and icon went away22:57
Kangaroooah no it changed. soory22:57
Kangaroooah yes becouse i unmuted it in properties22:58
charlie-tcagood22:58
charlie-tcaWe seem to have all that fixed in lucid. I am hoping it will work, anyway22:58
Kangaroooim thinking maybe dl lucid and try to make it faster better by finding all bugs in there. maybe those bugs will be faster fixed? i already asked similar question yesterday i think22:59
charlie-tcaThey might, but the developers still have to have time to fix them.23:00
charlie-tcaIf we report them soon enough, some will get fixed23:01
charlie-tcabut some days lucid don't work at all, too23:01
charlie-tcaIf you install lucid on a system you have to use, it can be a big problem.23:02
Kangaroooyeeees.; ok. and this mixer? the new one will go away on some of next updates?23:03
charlie-tcano, not in karmic23:05
charlie-tcayou just ignore it23:05
Kangaroooshould i report bug about the new one? when new one preferences is opened and on keyboard pressed mute and then un-mute it doesnt un-mute. when preferences closed and it.. oh wait ill make video23:06
charlie-tcaIt has been reported23:07
Kangarooocan u give me link?23:09
mr_pouitBug #37847023:11
mr_pouit(but no need to add another comment, it's already a known issue, and won't be fixed in karmic)23:11
Kangarooosimilar in some way https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/gnome-applets/+bug/40129423:12
Kangaroooi see that bug is having last post 2months ago. why im getting this bug only now?23:14
Kangarooothis then maybe is different im having?23:14
knomeKangarooo, it's surely the same one.23:22

charlie-tcaWhat were you doing when it froze?23:52
robinking623charlie-tca: with the power off and .......23:53
robinking623charlie-tca: oh, you mean what I was doing?23:53
robinking623charlie-tca: everytime different23:53
charlie-tcaWhat application were you using. You just turned the system on?23:53
charlie-tcado you have a live cd?23:54
robinking623charlie-tca: no. sometimes I try to input something and sometimes I just move the mouse23:54
robinking623charlie-tca: yes23:54
charlie-tcatry running the memory test23:54
charlie-tcaIf it is freezing at different times, something hardware is usually causing it23:55
charlie-tcaMake sure all the plugs are tight23:55
robinking623charlie-tca: but when I am using windows it is ok.......23:55
charlie-tcayup23:55
charlie-tcamicrosoft uses lots of tricks to make it look like it is okay23:56
robinking623charlie-tca: I think I can also running the memtest with grup select23:56
robinking623charlie-tca: lol23:56
robinking623charlie-tca: ok. I will just do it23:56
charlie-tcaokay, grub memory test should work, but you have to run that test for a while, like a couple of hours at least23:56
charlie-tcaHow much memory is in the system?23:57
robinking623charlie-tca: 512mb23:57
charlie-tcaDrive is not full, is it?23:58
robinking623charlie-tca: no. now I have only xubuntu on it.23:58
robinking623charlie-tca: harddisk is 20gb23:58
charlie-tcaRunning out of drive space, no swap partition, loose plug on the mouse or keyboard, bad memory, too many applications running at one time23:59
charlie-tcahmm23:59
charlie-tcathis is not after suspend or hibernate?23:59
charlie-tcaor screensaver?23:59
