I haven't irc'ed in ages [19:54] quick question: I'm new to laptop testing and I have an issue with the hibernate function. I want to log a bug for it but don't know to which component it belogns [19:55] is this part of the kernel? [20:08] How are you testing hibernate? If you're just tossing values into /proc, yeah, that would be the kernel. [20:09] If you're using some userspace tool, it's less clear where the bug resides. [20:11] hi persia. thanks for responding. [20:12] I'm clicking the power button on the menu/task bar and select hibernate then [20:14] OK. Take a look at pm-hibernate from the pm-utils package. Going through that you ought find a way to manually trigger the hibernation in the kernel. [20:14] If that works, and the GUI method doesn't, the bug lies in the GUI tool (e.g. gnome-power-manager). [20:14] If that doesn't work, the bug lies in the kernel. [20:15] If by going through the pm-utils code you can't find any way to actually hibernate, file the bug against pm-utils. [20:15] If you need help tracking this down, I'd recommend asking for help in finding the right package in #ubuntu-bugs. [20:16] This channel is mostly about strategies to discover problems. Once you have a known problem, #ubuntu-bugs is a better place to find out how to get it reported correctly. [20:21] cheers man. this is great info! :-) === kermiac_ is now known as kermiac
