[01:28] * Takyoji tries to decide between ORM and MVC [02:05] Anyone testing Lucid still? [02:05] not I. [02:06] I may not upgrade to it. [02:16] If only I knew a little more of various development paradigms [02:28] I've been using Lucid since Alpha 1 [02:29] tonyyarusso: did you see the TED video about open formats? [02:29] kermit: I don't think I did. [02:30] Takyoji: I have Lucid on a VM and a laptop. [02:32] tonyyarusso: i don't know which one i saw, but these are related http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/tim_berners_lee_on_the_next_web.html http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/tim_berners_lee_the_year_open_data_went_worldwide.html [02:32] Was just curious if anyone else was having the boot issue of a missing file or not; of which I've found the answer to [02:35] tonyyarusso: do you do a lot of data mining? that's probably my strongest skill. [02:35] (and i need a job) [02:35] kermit: nope [02:35] Right now for work I mostly do technical writing. [02:37] tonyyarusso: oh, i recall you talking about data formats a few times (kml, the .ntr..) [02:38] Yeah, those would be from random things I try to do in my personal life :P [02:38] The KML because I'm trying to put together a web site about hiking trails. [03:24] does anyone here use hdmi on their computer? [03:24] w/ audio? [03:24] * Takyoji doesn't [03:27] isn't HDMI a key step in turning your PC into a cable box? [03:27] end to end DRM [03:27] i get chills when i see the acronym [03:28] To my understanding, yes [03:31] That's true, but you can also use it for non-DRMd purposes. [03:33] HDMI is patent-encumbered while DisplayPort isn't, correct? Or? [03:33] No idea [03:33] * tonyyarusso is still using D-SUB VGA connections [03:36] Takyoji: while I have you here, what's the status of a release event for MN South? [03:37] I'm going to email some people right now about getting a location yet. [03:37] Same question goes out to jenkinbr, exigraff, ripps, and h00k for NE, mr_steve for Metro West. [03:38] Takyoji: i recall something making me like displayport a lot better, relating to IP [03:38] Takyoji: okay, keep us posted [03:39] HDMI has CEC and royalties, DisplayPort doestn [03:40] i could help out with metro west stuff, but i dont really have experience with such things [03:41] Adremelech: None needed. [03:41] what does it entail? [03:41] Adremelech: A release event can be just about anything, from a social event at a restaurant to someone's house to an all-day installfest with speakers and the whole works. [03:42] coolio [03:42] organizing such a thing included choosing an event type, date, time, setting up a location, announcing the details on the web site and mailing list, possibly distributing flyers if you can, etc. [03:43] But by far the biggest thing is just deciding you're going to do something and telling us what it is and when. [03:43] Friday/Saturday/Sunday immediately following release (which happens on Thursday) is most common. [03:44] well, if it is going o be an installfest, i could help installing, but with my limited schedule thats about it [03:44] 80-100 hour work weeks suck :| [03:44] last fall we had two in Minnesota. One in St. Paul that was an installfest with a speaker from Canonical, and one that was actually in Superior, WI but drew from NE MN too that was a meetup for food & drinks at a restaurant. [03:44] well, 40-50 technically [03:45] It's the organizing that really needs work right now. [03:45] I want to see 5 or more events of some kind in the state for Lucid. [03:46] if someone could come up with some fliers, i could put them out on the counter at my work [03:46] i get a fair amount of technology oriented people in my store [03:46] If we get the date, time, & location decided within the next couple of weeks we can get flyers printed free. But you have to organize the details to put on the flyers first. [03:47] indeed [03:51] tonyyarusso: What's the release date? [03:52] !lucid [03:52] Lucid Lynx is the codename for Ubuntu 10.04, due April 2010 - Lucid is NOT released and is NOT stable - Discussion and support only in #ubuntu+1 [03:52] gah, darn your database lag ubot3. [03:53] tonyyarusso: So we don't have an actual date yet? [03:53] https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidReleaseSchedule [03:53] Of course we do - it was set ages ago. [03:53] Ah, April 29 [03:55] tonyyarusso: So we'd be looking at April 30 and May 1 and 2 for release party dates then? [03:56] sparklehistory: as the ones that make the most sense, but that's not required. [03:56] it can be June 19th if you want. [03:56] lol [03:56] Well that weekend is going to suck for me - exams start Monday, May 3. [03:58] So study now instead of cramming. [04:00] Yeah, that always works better in theory than in practice [04:00] The same can be said of cramming. [04:02] Frankly I prefer a mixture of both, I like to do my outlining and preparing study materials a few weeks before exams but it's important to review everything right before as well so it's fresh in my mind. [04:02] I just learn it all once. :D [04:03] of course, I'm merely in high school. :P [04:11] That's less practical when you have one exam that counts for 100% of your grade. [04:11] but normal people don't have those. [04:12] But I do and therefore I have to studing accordingly. [04:12] But you don't get to complain :) [04:12] Why not? [04:13] because you're the one that chose to go to crazy school. [04:15] Fine, then you don't get to complain about the idiots in your classes because you chose to go to your school. [04:18] which schools do you two go to? [04:18] Heh: http://www.php.net/manual/en/control-structures.goto.php [04:18] Apparently some complimentary xkcd comics in the PHP documentation. :P [04:19] Metro State [04:21] I'm in law school. [04:23] how generic of a name for a school [04:27] Lucid's been kind of disappointing as a development release cycle so far - I haven't had it become unbootable ONCE! [04:30] Today is my first day for such. :P [04:30] Due to a file being renamed; and I had updated between the change of the file name, and tweaking the files that depend on it. === ripps_ is now known as ripps
