KirkBNot sure where to go next with my display issue, so am hoping someone here can give me some ideas or help.  I have my Sony flat panel CRt hooked up to my Myth  box, but can't seem to get a good res on it through my HMDI --> DVI connection.05:22
KirkBI've manually mod'd xorg.conf to allow me to get the right resolution, as the EID was not being detected by the NVidia drivers05:22
KirkBhowever I can't seem to get a picture on the display - remote desktop shows it is up and working at the right res, but the TV just stays blank05:23
KirkBany ideas on how to prod this display to show the desktop being sent over the HDMI to DVI connection?05:23
KirkBI've posted to Ubuntu forums with no responses so far: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=143266805:25

popeyis this the right place to ask user support questions?14:28
Jay2k1what's wrong?14:31
popeyif i boot up my backend (which has a DVB-S PCI Card) it works fine, I can record programmes, and watch them on my frontend, and stream fine14:32
popeyafter a while it stops working, I can ssh to it, but using mythweb I get very long delays showing backend status / recorded programmes14:33
popeythe list of recorded programmes is empty14:33
popeyand I sometimes get this in my browser:-14:33
popeyWarning at /usr/share/mythtv/mythweb/modules/status/handler.php, line 35:14:33
popeyfile_get_contents( [function.file-get-contents]: failed to open stream: HTTP request failed14:33
Jay2k1FE/BE on separate machines?14:35
popeyif i reboot the box it comes back to life and i can see programmes that were recorded again14:35
Jay2k1and using mythbuntu right?14:36
Jay2k1any clues like high load, using swap or like that? (on either machine)14:37
popeyDaviey suggested i add the autobuilds trunk 0.22 repo too, which i did14:37
popeyload average is practically zero14:37
popeyno swap, plenty of free ram as cache14:37
Jay2k1did you check logfiles?14:38
popeyspecificially? mythbackend.log?14:38
Jay2k1umm dunno, for example yes14:39
Jay2k1as i have absolutely no clue whats going onm, thats what i would do14:39
Jay2k1syslog/messages, apache log, mythbackend..14:40
popeyyeah, there's nothing really jumping out14:42
popeywondering if the firmware for the dvb-s card is dodgy/faulty14:43
Jay2k1hmm maybe14:50
Jay2k1does that only happen when you're watching tv or record? or also when it just idles or plays music/movies14:50
popeyit happens when its idle14:51
Jay2k1when you can ssh to it in that state... did you try to check the db?14:52
popeyits like that now, so now is a good time to do that kind of thing14:54
popeymysqlcheck -uroot -p -A --auto-repair14:56
popeylike that?14:56
Jay2k1no, i mean if you can access it at all16:19
Jay2k1my thought is, when mythweb's list of recordings is empty, and mythweb runs on the backend, perhaps there's something wrong with accessing the db16:20
Jay2k1if you suspect the dvb card firmware, you could always try to put the card out of the pc and try if it works then16:21
Jay2k1you could also try to restart the mythbackend when it gets stuck to see if that helps...16:23
Jay2k1somehow you have to track down the problem i think16:23
jolarenHow long uptime do you haev on your servers when running mythbuntu with gui=16:24
mrandjolaren: depends on how often you update your kernel - that is typically the only thing requiring a reboot.16:36
mrandkernel updates are optional (but typically recommended)16:36
jolarenI know, was just wondering. I'm running a combined frontend and backend therefor the16:37
jolarenBut the gui has been buggy as hell on my combined fe/be16:37
Zinnjolaren: Please watch your language.16:37
jolarenZinn, My apologizes. Didn't intend to offend16:37
ZinnHi jolaren, something I can help you with today?  I am a bot, use !help to see what I can do.16:37
mrandjolaren: the gui as in the frontend has been buggy, or the window manager?16:38
jolarenperhaps the window manager causing the frontend to collapse16:38
jolarenand at some points it cannot view the recordings16:39
jolarentrying to view them causes the frontend to collapse16:39
jolarenalltho watchin the same recordings from my netbook doesnt crash t16:39
mrandI don't know why the window manager or other OS level things would cause that.  What does the frontend log say when it crashes?16:39
mrandIn other words, I suspect it isn't caused by the window manager.16:40
jolarenI will take a look next time it collaps16:41
mrandjolaren: you might make sure that you have auto-builds enabled so that you're running the latest bug fixes as well16:45
jolarenIt does not automaticly update kernels etc right?16:45
mrandno, auto-builds simply updates mythtv executables with bug fixes whenever they are issued by the mythtv developers).  It doesn't automatically move you to newer versions, just bug fixes.16:49
jolarenI think I have the auto builds enabled16:52
jolarenI will take a look16:52
jolarenmrand, can only do a partial upgrade tho16:59
jolarenbut I did that now16:59
seventoesi just did the latest update on 0.22-fixes and now it seems mythbackend is starting before /dev/video0 exists20:47
seventoesso the card doesn't exist till i restart mythbackend20:48
