[00:20] Hi. Is there a graphical way of connecting to a win32 share from xubuntu? [00:37] satz add to that a printer [00:38] satz look up nautilus [00:38] network tab right there === genii is now known as Amastasius === Amastasius is now known as genii === emma is now known as skampler === skampler is now known as Guest79289 === Guest79289 is now known as emma [02:05] Hello, I'm trying to backup some files from windows using xubuntu but I can't find the windows partition [03:06] The way Ubuntu is moving, Xubuntu keeps looking better and better... ;-) [03:13] I've thought for years it looks better [03:14] Yeah... I don't understand the direction they're going. GNOME seems really buggy to me. And 10.04 looks awfully Mac-wannabe. :-\ [03:26] Looks like Ubuntu 10.04 is a failed OS X ripoff [03:26] >.< [03:26] So I, as a *Mac user*, am switching to Xubuntu ^_^ [04:27] Hi all, I am trying to get desktop effects working in Xubuntu Lucid beta, and have no idea where to start as there is no longer an xorg.conf file. Any advice? [04:55] Good morning... [05:39] can some one possibly help me? [05:41] anyone? [05:42] i need help i burned a cd rom on a windows computer but my limux computer dosent show what i burned on the cd [05:45] why does ubuntu show what i burned on the cd? [10:57] yes [10:57] <_Techie_> any luck? [10:58] and only have time to typed one or two command [10:58] <_Techie_> add the "text" option to the end of thr grub line [10:59] <_Techie_> so blah blah blah --quiet splash text [11:00] <_Techie_> sysi, ima head to bed... its all yours [11:00] thank _Techie_ [11:00] <_Techie_> check whether its a problem in the init, or whether its a problem with GDM [11:00] <_Techie_> if text mode boots fine, log in [11:01] <_Techie_> and run startx [11:01] <_Techie_> if your desktop loads [11:01] <_Techie_> then youve got a problem with GDM [11:01] <_Techie_> wait, the command may be startxfce4 [11:02] <_Techie_> try both [11:02] <_Techie_> anyway, goodnight [11:02] ok, thanks ! [12:56] hi. comes the karmic koala with emerald/compiz? [12:57] no [12:57] oh :/ is it easy to use xfce with emerald? [12:58] i think it is, for me it only worked with emerald [12:59] ok! so is there a workaround out? ;) [12:59] because i want to mod xfce to this http://deskworld.deviantart.com/art/DSTRY-136679032 [17:22] hi. is there any way to make automounting work without GDM? [17:27] vonderer: automounting the hard drives? [17:28] no, dvd, flash drives [17:28] Same, answer is yes. Server install does it all the time without gdm or gui [17:29] Probably needs an entry in /etc/fstab or an entry in udev now [17:29] everything's ok while I use GDM, but when I use SLiM, thunar and nautilus refuse to mount newly inserted media =/ [17:30] Can't really help you with slim, myself [17:30] thanks for the idea about udev. I usually get answers about fstab, but hey, GDM doesn't modify fstab and works perfectly [17:31] Yeah, lotta changes happening in Ubuntu and Xubuntu these days. [17:32] gdm became awful, that what's happened. :)) [17:33] Gnome re-wrote it and made it very hard for anyone else to use it [17:33] think simplification, I think [17:34] yes, it's a bit frustrating. I think they're oversimplifying it [17:34] yup [17:43] hi [17:43] hi [17:48] hi vonderer [17:54] seems like a problem with PolicyKit =/ [17:54] found something on ubuntuforums [19:20] Hey, guys. I want to install the package "gnome-applets," but it depends on way too many packages (pulseaudio included). Is there any way just to install some of the gnome applets? I'm really only interested in the CPU and network utilization applets, as XFCE's are lacking. [19:35] jst, do you think gnome-applets will work in xfce? [19:36] Besogon, yes, the package needed is called "xfce4-xfapplet-plugin." [19:36] I've used it before... I just don't want to install an absurd amount of GNOME packages in order to get a nicer-looking CPU graph. [19:41] jst, try to install applets from source code http://projects.gnome.org/ [19:42] Besogon, yeah, I'm trying to figure out which applet it is. :) [19:45] I think it's "system monitor," but I can't find the source. [19:48] jst, I have an idea. Applets work. All applets need at least 2 files. one of which is executable and second is a serve file (This file contains all the information about the resources the applet will use for its execution.). [19:50] You can download just one gnome-applets.deb package. unpack it find this 2 file and put them in appropriate place [19:51] look more about gnome applets http://www.pygtk.org/articles/applets_arturogf/ [20:01] Besogon, thanks. [20:55] bye [23:35] good evening Xubuntu
