map7_ | I've just loaded up mythbuntu 10.04-beta1 64bit and found that it doesn't reboot properly after installation | 05:18 |
map7_ | Should I report this bug on 'https://bugs.launchpad.net/mythbuntu' | 05:18 |

pmcenery | I have "scan for ..." enabled... but it seems that it doesnt like DVD's for some reason. I have libdvdcss2 installed. | 07:33 |

Kevil | Hi, I am new to mythbuntu and I am trying to install with wibu for a dual boot on my media center. During the installation it asks a few questions about graphics drivers which I left as the open source option then it asks about the sql database which I have no clue about and just left as it is. Then it reboots but when I select mythbuntu as the boot option it takes me to a grub screen and only gives me the option to run windows 7. I have no | 12:24 |
dewman | has anyone had any luck using w_scan for getting a channel list? I find that the mythtv scanner doesnt really work so well and I am trying to find a viable solutions for scanning digital channels. | 15:33 |

dewman | anyone? | 16:07 |
mrand | dewman: if you're having specific trouble with the scanner in 0.22, you might try the one in 0.23 | 16:13 |
dewman | mrand, I am currently running trunk on .22 not sure if I want to make the dive to .23 yet.....23 is coming out pretty soon isnt it? | 16:15 |
tgm4883 | "I am currently running trunk on .22" what? | 16:28 |
mrand | tgm4883: in at least one place, 0.22 says trunk-0.22, right? | 16:39 |
tgm4883 | yes | 16:39 |
tgm4883 | Don't make me stab you | 16:39 |
tgm4883 | i'll do it :) | 16:39 |
mrand | I know you will. I'm not afraid. | 16:40 |
dewman | mrand, would you happen to know why there is conflicting channels on a new scan? I deleted all the sources and even deleted the capture card. and the scan on qam 64 shows 25 MPEG conflicting channels.... | 16:40 |
tgm4883 | !stab mrand | 16:40 |
* Zinn stabs mrand with superm1's Dell "mini" LHC. | 16:40
mrand | heheh. | 16:40 |
mrand | I'm sorry, I know not of the ways of digital scanning. If you don't get replies here, you might try a bigger audience on the forums or #mythtv-users | 16:40 |
dewman | anyone else? =) | 16:41 |
dewman | what are scte channels? | 16:47 |
ball | I just had Comcast cable television installed this morning. It's *awful*. | 20:24 |
mrand | ball: don't know that many people will argue with you on that. | 20:25 |
ball | mrand: Now I have to find some alternative. | 20:30 |
ball | :-( | 20:30 |
mrand | If the picture quality is that bad, they should fix/repair it, and/or cancel service with no charge to you. | 20:32 |
rhpot1991 | there is no alternate in most areas, unless you can do with just an antenna | 20:36 |
mrand | Well, satellite is available in most areas, assuming no line-of-site blockage. | 20:39 |
rhpot1991 | mrand: may as well just go antenna then :) | 20:40 |
rhpot1991 | unless you have a closet full of HDPVRs | 20:41 |
mrand | rhpot1991: not yet. In fact, the only thing in my closest right now is a router and cable modem. Don't even have a HDHR yet. | 20:42 |
ball | I would go with an antenna if I had the money to have it installed. | 20:57 |
ball | ...and to build a PVR of some sort. | 20:57 |
* tgm4883 uses an antenna | 21:02
tgm4883 | like 80 bucks and it sits inside my attic | 21:02 |
ball | tgm4883: In my attic, I'd pick up just one station. | 21:02 |
ball | ...with two streams. | 21:02 |
tgm4883 | ball, how far away do you live from the transmission site? | 21:03 |
ball | tgm4883: About 100km? (60 miles) from most of them. | 21:04 |
tgm4883 | thats about what mine is | 21:05 |
ball | House has a 30' (10m) tower, but I can't afford to get it painted and have an antenna installed. | 21:05 |
ball | That would probably cost more than a year of cable TV | 21:06 |
tgm4883 | Have you checked antenna web? | 21:07 |
* ball nods | 21:07 | |
tgm4883 | and it only listed 2 channels? | 21:07 |
ball | I know which antenna I'd buy, if I had the money. | 21:07 |
tgm4883 | you much have crappy terrain | 21:07 |
ball | No, one station is what I'd get if I had the antenna in the roof, as you mentioned. | 21:08 |
ball | On top of the tower I think I'd get about ten | 21:08 |
ball | ...though some of those would be Spanish. | 21:08 |
tgm4883 | have you tested in your roof at all? | 21:08 |
tgm4883 | what is your roof made out of? | 21:08 |
ball | tgm4883: wood, with ordinary tar shingles | 21:08 |
ball | asphalt | 21:09 |
tgm4883 | yea so i'm not sure why you think you would only get one channel then | 21:09 |
tgm4883 | Where are you located? | 21:09 |
ball | About 60 miles S. of Chicago | 21:09 |
ball | Oh, it's a ranch though, so the roof is lower than on a two story house. | 21:09 |
ball | I have to go | 21:11 |
tgm4883 | little man? | 21:13 |
tate | I have a hauppage PVR 500 that worked great for me until I went to 9.10 now my channels look really grainy. I've checked and it's set to my proper channel frequency setting. | 21:13 |
tate | Anyone else experiencing this sadness? | 21:14 |
tgm4883 | tate, did you upgrade or fresh install? | 21:14 |
tate | Fresh install | 21:14 |
tate | Is there a newer TV card that works better? | 21:14 |
tgm4883 | Did you up the bitrate? | 21:14 |
tgm4883 | i think it's kinda low myself | 21:14 |
tate | Well my sound is really crappy too | 21:14 |
tate | It's not just picture | 21:14 |
tate | There is some problem with reception. | 21:15 |
tgm4883 | tate, you have cable or antenna? or satellite? | 21:16 |
tate | normal us cable | 21:17 |
tate | It worked great until I upgraded | 21:17 |
tate | Anyone here have a HVR 1600 tv card? | 21:34 |
tate | I'm going to try to get a different card as they're inexpensive | 21:34 |
