rlameiropatg: wich kernel?19:47
patgum20:00
patglatest?20:00
patgI just downloaded and instaklled yesterday/todays20:00
rlameiropatg: humm20:00
rlameirowich release, the 9.10?20:00
rlameirowith the RT kernel20:01
patgi think so20:01
patgubuntu studio x64 9.10 1.5GB20:01
rlameirobecause normally you will need to eneable proprietary drivers20:01
rlameirook20:01
rlameirowell20:01
patgi did thaTt20:01
patgboradcom drivers are active20:01
patgaccording to hardware manager20:02
rlameirook20:02
rlameiroso what is happening ?20:02
patgor whatever its called.20:02
rlameiroare you trying to connect and it doesnt work?20:02
patgnothing. I have a wired connection atm but when i pull up "network" i enable it, puyt in the essid and pass. then no joy20:02
rlameiroor it stays trying to connect forever?20:02
patgalso there is no network applet in the top panel20:03
rlameirohummm20:03
rlameirothat is strange20:03
patgit doesnt even flash the icon in the panel.20:03
patgit just says ok basically20:03
rlameiroi will advise you to install Wicd20:03
rlameirobut be carefull20:04
patgthen nothing20:04
rlameirodownload it first20:04
rlameirodont use the normal ubuntu install20:04
patgsounds frightening20:05
rlameirosudo apt-get install wicd20:06
rlameirotry it20:06
rlameiroif something goes wrong and you stay withou network20:06
rlameiroyou can use the install dvd to reinstall the networkmanager20:06
rlameirobut maybe try to reboot first to see if its some weird block20:07
rlameiropatg: dont be afraid20:07
rlameiroreboot the computer, maybe it will help20:08
rlameiroi am not so expert in this matter, but normally Wicd is easier network manager20:08
patghow do i install just network manager from dvd?20:09
patgif it fails?20:10
patgalso, how do I manualkly add network manager applet?20:10
patgthis all worked fine under 32 bit GRRRR20:15
rlameiropatg: you need to add the cd to the synaptics package manager20:18
rlameirothen you search on the cd source for network manager and install it20:19
rlameiropatg: I am using 32 bits20:19
rlameirothe problems is taht the driver is proprietary, hence people cant build it for the platforms that are needed and make it work fine20:19
rlameirothis is not ubuntu/linux fault, but broadcom fault20:20
rlameiropatg: you could try to install the 10.04 beta iso20:20
rlameiroand see if it works for you20:21
rlameiroalso it would help people testing it out and file bugs :D20:21
rlameirowell, i am going to install th beta now, cya20:21
patgis there a 10.4 beta for studio?20:22
rlameiropatg: yes20:22
patg_Where can I find?20:24
patg_(goin mobile) (iPhone)20:24
patg_Where is 10.4 beta studio ?20:29
patg_Can I upgrade to 10.4?20:33
patg_Would 10.4 even possibly fix my wireless issue? Is that more likely than a 32/64 bit issue?20:53
patg_(I was in here a short time ago)20:54
patg_patg: Would 10.4 even possibly fix my wireless issue? Is that more likely than a 32/64 bit issue?21:30
patrick__hello. I am wondering, is there anyone that can help me get wireless working? I am on a frsh instal of ubuntu studio 64bit on a 4,1 macbook pro22:04
patrick__no network manager applet, restricted hardware is reporting that the driver is installed (broadcom) and it worked fine under regular ubuntu 32 bit with studio packages on top of it22:05
patrick__ive done all updates, even manually added network details in network app. but in "network tools" app it says im using "lo" and that "eth0" and "pan0" dont exist22:07
vladawhy do I get this error when trying to start "startBristol -jack -b3":23:08
vladaRequested Jack drivers, not compiled into bristol23:08
