[16:52] hello [16:52] hey timmy54321 [16:54] ive just got ubuntu studio anyone tell me any cool stuff i can try [16:55] what were you using before timmy54321 ? [16:55] standard ubuntu 9.10 [16:55] OK [16:56] what are you interested? [16:56] in doing ? [16:56] audio/video? [16:56] graphics? [16:56] all [16:56] well [16:56] a couple things... [16:57] ubuntu studio is no different than ubuntu [16:57] its just ubuntu with extra software [16:57] apart from the default [16:57] meta-packages [16:57] !vanilla [16:57] To install Ubuntu Studio on top of a vanilla Ubuntu install, read https://help.ubuntu.com/community/UbuntuStudio/Installation [16:58] you can find these packages listed there [16:58] timmy54321: i would suggest starting with some graphics programs [16:58] the GIMP [16:58] icescape [16:58] cool [16:58] NOT that these are easy to use necessarily [16:59] BUT they are basically click-and-run [16:59] the audio end takes some configuring [16:59] are you in too your gameing? [16:59] i do games much [16:59] hmm [16:59] i DONT do games much* [17:00] oo i was about to say check out the linux equivalent to steam its called djl [17:00] i heard about it [17:00] you use it? [17:00] how is it? [17:00] yeah im using it now [17:01] its pretty good [17:01] downloads are with out fail theres games ive never seen for linux [17:01] http://en.djl-linux.org/ [17:01] thats the deal right? [17:01] yeah [17:02] im doing some testing later today on a box [17:02] i'll try it [17:02] ok [19:37] Wireless not working ubuntu studio 64bit macbook pro 4,1. boradcom drivers installed according to hardware devices. any help? [19:47] patg: wich kernel? [20:00] um [20:00] latest? [20:00] I just downloaded and instaklled yesterday/todays [20:00] patg: humm [20:00] wich release, the 9.10? [20:01] with the RT kernel [20:01] i think so [20:01] ubuntu studio x64 9.10 1.5GB [20:01] because normally you will need to eneable proprietary drivers [20:01] ok [20:01] well [20:01] i did thaTt [20:01] boradcom drivers are active [20:02] according to hardware manager [20:02] ok [20:02] so what is happening ? [20:02] or whatever its called. [20:02] are you trying to connect and it doesnt work? [20:02] nothing. I have a wired connection atm but when i pull up "network" i enable it, puyt in the essid and pass. then no joy [20:02] or it stays trying to connect forever? [20:03] also there is no network applet in the top panel [20:03] hummm [20:03] that is strange [20:03] it doesnt even flash the icon in the panel. [20:03] it just says ok basically [20:03] i will advise you to install Wicd [20:04] but be carefull [20:04] then nothing [20:04] download it first [20:04] dont use the normal ubuntu install [20:05] sounds frightening [20:06] sudo apt-get install wicd [20:06] try it [20:06] if something goes wrong and you stay withou network [20:06] you can use the install dvd to reinstall the networkmanager [20:07] but maybe try to reboot first to see if its some weird block [20:07] patg: dont be afraid [20:08] reboot the computer, maybe it will help [20:08] i am not so expert in this matter, but normally Wicd is easier network manager [20:09] how do i install just network manager from dvd? [20:10] if it fails? [20:10] also, how do I manualkly add network manager applet? [20:15] this all worked fine under 32 bit GRRRR [20:18] patg: you need to add the cd to the synaptics package manager [20:19] then you search on the cd source for network manager and install it [20:19] patg: I am using 32 bits [20:19] the problems is taht the driver is proprietary, hence people cant build it for the platforms that are needed and make it work fine [20:20] this is not ubuntu/linux fault, but broadcom fault [20:20] patg: you could try to install the 10.04 beta iso [20:21] and see if it works for you [20:21] also it would help people testing it out and file bugs :D [20:21] well, i am going to install th beta now, cya [20:22] is there a 10.4 beta for studio? [20:22] patg: yes [20:24] Where can I find? [20:24] (goin mobile) (iPhone) [20:29] Where is 10.4 beta studio ? [20:33] Can I upgrade to 10.4? [20:53] Would 10.4 even possibly fix my wireless issue? Is that more likely than a 32/64 bit issue? [20:54] (I was in here a short time ago) [21:30] patg: Would 10.4 even possibly fix my wireless issue? Is that more likely than a 32/64 bit issue? [22:04] hello. I am wondering, is there anyone that can help me get wireless working? I am on a frsh instal of ubuntu studio 64bit on a 4,1 macbook pro [22:05] no network manager applet, restricted hardware is reporting that the driver is installed (broadcom) and it worked fine under regular ubuntu 32 bit with studio packages on top of it [22:07] ive done all updates, even manually added network details in network app. but in "network tools" app it says im using "lo" and that "eth0" and "pan0" dont exist [23:08] why do I get this error when trying to start "startBristol -jack -b3": [23:08] Requested Jack drivers, not compiled into bristol
