schlaftierAre there gstreamer plugins in Lucid to support H.264?01:35
MTughanschlaftier: Open a H.264 file in Totem and let it try to find a package.01:41
schlaftierMTughan: apparently it works, just not when I try the Youtube HTML5 Beta in Midori (which is supposed to use gstreamer)01:45
MTughanschlaftier: Does Midori specify HTML5 video as supported?01:46
mM94anyone else still suffering from the slow browsing regression from karmic?01:47
schlaftierMTughan: It does, but all I see is "Your browser does not currently recognise any of the video formats available."01:47
schlaftierMTughan: and in the Midori FAQ it says "Webkit using gstreamer 0.10 as a video framework. So in order to make it [HTML5 video] work make sure that you have following gstreamer packages installed:"01:49
MTughanschlaftier: And you have the specified packages installed?01:49
schlaftierMTughan: of course. It's only gstreamer0.10-alsa and gstreamer0.10-plugins-good and gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg01:50
MTughangstreamer-plugins-good? That sounds odd...01:51
MTughanH.264 is a patented format, I don't think its codec would go in plugins-good.01:51
MTughanCould be in ffmpeg though actually.01:51
schlaftierMTughan: that's for theora, I suppose01:51
MTughanYeah, theora would be in plugins-good.01:51
schlaftierMTughan: H.264 should be in ffmpeg, yes01:52
MTughanHold on, let me fetch my Ubuntu laptop. This desktop runs Fedora 12.01:52
Chipacah.264 is patented?01:53
MTughanYes. Which is why Firefox won't support it.01:53
MTughanBy the MPEG-LA.01:53
Chipacayep, reading up on that01:54
Chipacasucks01:54
MTughanschlaftier: Midori plays HTML5 video on my laptop here. I have -ffmpeg, -plugins-good, -plugins-bad, -plugins-base, and -plugins-ugly installed right now.01:56
MTughanI'll try removing ugly and bad and try again.01:57
schlaftierMTughan: wait a second01:57
schlaftierMTughan: I have no problem with HTML5 per se (theora plays fine), but with H.26401:57
MTughanschlaftier: Sorry, this was on YouTube, so it's H.264.01:57
schlaftierI see01:57
schlaftierwhich is exactly what I'm after01:58
MTughanOkay... Video plays with -bad and -ugly removed, but the sound's gone.01:58
MTughanSound back with -bad readded.02:00
schlaftierMTughan: okay, so we know the sound is in -bad, but which package is the video in?02:00
schlaftierand why does Totem play H.264 while Midori does not?02:01
MTughanschlaftier: I suspect ffmpeg. Let's confirm that.02:01
MTughanschlaftier: Yep. Sound, but no video with ffmpeg removed.02:02
MTughanSo my machine with Lucid needs gstreamer0.10-ffmpeg and gstreamer0.10-plugins-bad to play YouTube video.02:03
schlaftierMTughan: this is strange, as I have both of these, and have H.264 support in Totem but not in Midori02:05
MTughanschlaftier: Did you restart Midori after applying those packages?02:06
MTughanIt seems to require a restart to apply changes.02:06
schlaftierMTughan: I did. Actually I had them already, removed them (no video in Totem), installed them again, restarted Midori02:07
MTughanschlaftier: If Totem can play H.264 with sound, then I don't know why Midori can't.02:07
MTughanYou've enabled the HTML5 part I presume, and it's not trying to send you Flash?02:08
schlaftierMTughan: probably my Midori is broken.02:08
schlaftierMTughan: yes, it even tells me I do not have the necessary codec and provides a link to HTML5 troubleshooting02:08
MTughanschlaftier: Midori says I have version 0.2.2, with WebKitGTK+ 1.1.21.02:09
schlaftierMTughan: thanks for your help, but still no luck with H.264. I will stick with Flash for the moment (after all, there are more important things than Youtube) and try again on a fresh Lucid stable install02:18
MTughanschlaftier: Sounds good. Sorry to disappoint, but it's hard to figure something out when it's not happening to you.02:19
schlaftierMTughan: After all, it's really strange, isn't it? Totem plays H.264, Midori plays HTML5 videos, but no HTML5+H.26402:20
MTughanAgreed, it is odd.02:20
MTughanUnless we're using different versions of the packages, and there's a problem somewhere in there.02:20
schlaftierMTughan: I'm glad it works for you, I already assumed it was not possible at all due to licensing issues02:21
seidoswhat flash package should I install to get flash working?02:21
seidosI tried flashplug-installer02:22
seidos*flashplugin-installer02:22
seidosnevermind02:24
seidoshad to restart firefox02:24
schlaftierMTughan: I compiled the most recent Midori from source and it works! Yay!02:30
MTughanschlaftier: Perfect, sounds like your Midori was out of date then or something.02:30
MTughanAlso, while I remember, is it possible to disable the "scrolling" of programs if I accidentally hit the horizontal scroll on the program bar?02:30
=== KatieKitty is now known as KatieOffline
schlaftierMTughan: I thought I had made sure everything was up to date, though. But I'm just glad it works02:32
schlaftierMTughan: what's a program bar?02:32
MTughanschlaftier: Not sure what to call it. The opposite end of the screen from the menu bar. I mean the bar at the bottom with the virtual desktops and the running GUI programs.02:33
schlaftierMTughan: ah, the bottom panel. It's just an instance of gnome-panel (or xfce-panel or whatever DE you're using). But I only use one panel and no task switcher, and it's fixed, so no idea02:35
wageslaveHi, I have a problem with the install on 10.04.  Is this the place to ask a question about that issue?02:36
MTughanwageslave: Yep.02:37
wageslaveMTughan:  It may actually be bug with isolinux or gfxboot.  The graphical boot doesn't appear and instead I get a ncurses menu.  I went back and I had the same problem with 9.10 and 9.04.  8.10 worked, however.02:40
MTughanwageslave: Have you tried searching the Launchpad for a bug? If it's been around since 9.04, it's likely been filed.02:41
wageslaveMtughan: My video card is an antique TI TVP4020 [Permedia 2]02:41
wageslaveMTughan: Yes, I searched and didn't find anything.02:42
MTughanPerhaps it's not supported anymore even in Linux then?02:42
wageslaveMTughan:  The glint driver still works under X.02:42
MTughanwageslave: Do you know where the menu shows? Is it in GRUB or past GRUB?02:43
wageslaveMTughan:  Right at the beginning.  I get the isolinux banner, then "boot:" and when I hit enter I get the ncurses menu.02:44
MTughanSounds like GRUB, I think...02:44
wageslaveMTughan:  To me it's not such a big deal if it doesn't get fixed as I am fine with a non-graphical installer, and the box is just a sandbox.02:46
wageslaveBut if this card isn't supported I think that should be noted.02:47

dbuggerReally?? Well, anyway, I'll wait for the Official Release. But this was really awful bug03:54

ImunaliaK, I can't get any error messages because the screen doesnt get the command to turn back on, all I can do is press power which reboots the computer05:32
Imunaliahow would one go about disabling the button from being read or forcing its state to stay in the open position05:32
git__lucid is still having the same suspend and resume problem as 9.10 :(05:33
Lajoswardso just tell him to go ahead and go with lucid?05:34
ImunaliaI had a similar problem in 9.10 but It didnt crash it just flickered05:34
git__my problem was when i close and open the lid, the screen is blank but my laptop seems to be on05:35
git__i believe most suspend/resume are the result of poor video driver interacting with X05:36
Imunaliawhen you press the power button does your computer reboot05:37

zzz_Some days ago I performed a partial upgrade, and learned here that they should be avoided. In addition I read the link explaining why, and since then have searched trying find how to recover from my error, leaving the system running in hopes of receiving a notice that an update was available that would repair my error. None has been received, and I am totally at a loss as to how I should...06:23
zzz_...proceed. Would anyone care to explain how? Thanks06:23
ddecator_go for the full upgrade?06:24
ZykoticK9ddecator, if only that was an option06:25
ddecator_it's not? i've never done a partial upgrade haha, i figured you could just upgrade everything else06:25
ZykoticK9ddecator, the partial upgrade comes up every once in a while - i don't fully understand it actually, but know it's explained in the FAQ06:26
=== Imunalia_ is now known as Imunalia
ddecator_i'd look it up if i wasn't pulling my hair out trying to fix this bug06:27
zzz_ddecator: I'm not sure what you mean. I upgraded to 10.04 Beta which  fixed my video problem, and then checked for and applied updates as they were found available until the last one which claimed only a partial upgrade could be made, without warning that such is not recommended.06:27
ddecator_zzz_: sorry, don't listen to me, i guess i don't know what i'm talking about =p06:28
ZykoticK9zzz_, i "believe" if you wait a day or so - and reupdate apt (sudo apt-get update) the partial will disappear06:28
zzz_ZykoticK9: It's been about a week or so now, would it be safe to do the (sudo apt-get update) without causing further complications?06:30
ZykoticK9zzz_, i'm not sure - i can say that i have done several "partial upgrades" over the course of Lucid (i personally haven't run into problems)06:31
arandAt some points when a package becomes deprecated in favour of another, full-upgrades are OK, in most other cases, waiting is the proper way.06:33
bullgardzzz_: I would encourage you to dist-upgrade now. I have done it myself in similar circumstances.06:34
zzz_ZykoticK9: Actually it's been 9 days now, and since then I have lost access to my NAS drives, which was a problem that existed after upgrading to the 10.04 Beta, but later disappeared only to recur after the partial upgrade.06:35
arandzzz_: What exactly did the partial upgrade you did, do?06:35
ZykoticK9zzz_, see arand & bullgard's answers!06:35

wolterAs in gnome desktop manager?06:41

woltertoogreen, well, if you use gnome as interface, then its vital06:42

LaibcomsFireCrotch, happened to me before. Most of the time, the lock-file is still intact so I have to delete it.06:49
LaibcomsFireCrotch, then just continue downloading or updating normally.06:50

msanchezHi, does anyone experienced problems with plymouth after updating packages this weekend?07:28
ZykoticK9msanchez, can you be more specific?07:29
msanchezI get a black screen after rebooting so the computer wont boot, and I can see plymouth packages are getting upgraded07:29
msanchezyeah, sure :-)07:29
msanchezI just apt-get update && upgrade this weekend and, when rebooting, I got a black screen right when the plymouth screen should show up07:30
ZykoticK9msanchez, personally graphical plymouth just started working for me!  so i'm having the reverse effect then you.07:30
msanchezand the booting process gets stuck07:30
msanchez:-)07:30
ZykoticK9msanchez, sorry i have no idea -- i was wondering if your plymouth issue was about the missing plymouth-set-default-theme -- but you have a very different issue07:31
msanchezI considered removing plymouth but apt-get says it will remove cryptsetup as well, and that's not an option for me07:31
msanchezI'm looking through launchpad and other bugzillas but I could not find anything yet07:31
msanchezno problem, thx for reading anyway07:32
ZykoticK9msanchez, best of luck man07:32
msanchezthe thing is that I'm pretty sure something is wrong with this upgrade, since I restored a backup from friday, and everything worked... then upgraded and everything screwed up again07:32
msanchezthx07:32
ZykoticK9msanchez, if that's the case - it would be great if you could somehow file a bug, but VERY difficult if your system isn't starting07:33
msanchezhey! my system is starting ;-) but with a backup from friday07:34
msanchezZykoticK9: I have a wild guessing about what could be going on here... just in case you were interested07:41
msanchezwhen upgrading with apt-get I just get packages upgraded but no new packages installed07:42
msanchezif I do aptitude upgraded I get that plymouth-theme-ubuntu-logo plymouth-theme-ubuntu-text are going to get installed. Same thing if I use the graphical tool for updating software07:42
msanchezperhaps my problem was a matter of upgrading already installed plymouth packages without installing these new ones07:42
msanchezI'll risk my computer one more time and tell you later :-)07:44
Ichatcould anyone plz help me with installing a headless torrent (client)  on   10.04 server   ebox.1.507:44

msanchezZykoticK9: I'm back here, so that means my guessing worked07:54
msanchezso, better use aptitude upgrade or the graphical tool, not apt-get upgrade, just in case07:54
ZykoticK9msanchez, well i'm glad its working then07:54
msanchezme too. No need to file a bug then07:55
FireCrotchJust upgraded to Lucid on Kubuntu - isn't there supposed to be some sort of fancy screen or something during boot? I just get a black screen with a single _ cursor at the top until kdm starts07:57
msanchezFireCrotch: that sounds like if plymouth were not working for you08:03

BlackgibsonHello. i have a broken GDM on 10.04 beta 1 with all available updates. It seems the custom.conf file is missing. Ubuntuforums suggested running gdmsetup, setting to autologin, then restarting gdmsetup and disabling autologin to fix it. Problem is, I can't unlock gdmsetup. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated08:20
FireCrotchbullgard: thanks08:21
BlackgibsonDoh! How GDM is broken is that i cannot login. When I click on a user to bring up the password entry box, it animates, but never brings up the entry box08:24

Bittarmanmich_lucid, set the liveCD up as an apt source, and do a dist-upgrade from there11:41

Dr_WillisAnyone else notice that the customize partions tool - rescans EVERY time you do somthing trivial. Like set a mountpoint for a ntfs partion, or other things.. it takes me longer to tellit where to mount my 6 partions then to install it seems12:17

zzz_bbordwell: I reinstalled plymouth, set visual effects to Normal, and rebooted. Now I see the screen you were talking about, but I returned visual effects to None. Don't need anything fancy. So firefox remains broken, and NAS access is not working again. I'll update my firefox bug report, but don't know what to do about the NAS problem.15:08

Lajoswardsame here my skype works fine15:14
Aidar-NagatoMichalxo, i need to turn on SHMConfig first, but i cant, because there is no xorg.conf on 10.0415:15
omacmy wifi connection at work is max 60KB/s.  That may have something to do with it, but the fact remains the wifi is flaky at work or skype is flaky at low bandwidth speeds.15:15
omacGlad to here that skype video works.15:16
omacHow much is the min bandwidth for skype?15:16
patdk-wkheh15:16
MichalxoAidar-Nagato I've heard that you can make your own xorg.conf if you have probelms, but I am not sure if it applies for SHM too :-/15:16
patdk-wkI found wifi to not work ever anymore :(15:16
patdk-wkbut that is due to everyone seems to have installed more wifi units since christmas15:16

Oxymoronomikron4: Yeah?15:26
devilsadvocateOxymoron, its probably to do with your specific graphics drivers or so.15:27

jameswfremember if you didn't find or file a bug it is not a bug17:20
Roasted_jameswf, toshiba satellite L25. Atheros 2413 card. 8.04.4 works fine with WPA security, 9.04 works fine with WPA security. 9.10 only works unsecured, and 10.04 Beta only works unsecured. However, I only tested 10.04 from the LiveCD. I tried to install and update it and try from there but it kept freezing during the installer. Even tried another CD - both burned at slowest speed.17:20

Roasted_my SSID and netowrk is picked up out of box. It's just when I try to connect, it just... doesn't.17:21
Roasted_unsecured with 9.10 it works. like I said, tried with 10.04 too and it did the same thing.17:22
Roasted_though I didnt try it unsecured in 10.04. kept having freezing issues with the livecd.17:22
jameswfwierd I am using atheros works great granted a different chipset. Are you using the real atheros driver or ndiswrapper17:23
jameswfs/real/madwifi/17:23
Roasted_whatever is working by default. there's no hardware drivers for me in the restricted manager, and I tried ndiswrapper but that failed too.17:23
Roasted_I tried using the XP 32 bit driver for it but it said something about unsupported hardware or something or another....17:23

blackvdjust did a clean install of beta 1 on my compaq CQ50 laptop and for some reason i cant connect my network?18:55
blackvdis this a known issue18:55
melkorblackvd: its way to vague, what sort of connection are you trying.  Have you looked for any error messages?18:56
blackvdtried plugging directly into my router but its unable to connect18:57
blackvdtries to connect for a while then says network disconnected18:57
blackvdi knew the wireless wouldnt work out of the box but never had an issue with the network not working when plugged in18:58
SEJeffdupondje, Have you seen the other zarafa stuff?18:58
SEJeffIt is basically open source outlook web access with activesync18:58
melkorblackvd: yes that is pretty strange after you plug in the cable, what do you get with dmesg?  You should paste it though.18:59
dupondjeSEJeff: well zafara is to closed :) but z-push is nice, as it has IMAP backend19:00
dupondjejust to bad it has some bugs :(19:00
blackvdmelkor, complains about no wireless drivers found and then says eth0 link up ADDRCONF(NETDEV_CHANGE): eth0: link becomes ready then eth0 no ipv6 router present then link down up down up19:02
melkorblackvd: how about killing network manager and just using dhclient?19:03
melkor(just as a test)19:03
blackvdmelter, DHCPDISCOVER on eth0 to 255.255.255.255 port 67 interval 319:06
SEJeffdupondje, You are mistaken. The webui is agplv319:06
blackvdmelkor, No DHCPOFFERS received19:06
SEJeffdupondje, http://www.zarafa.com/wiki/index.php/Compiling_source_code """ The Zarafa source code is licensed under the AGPLv3 license.  """19:06
melkorblackvd: did you sudo ifconfig eth0 up; sudo dhclient eth0 ?19:07
blackvdmelkor, yeah same error19:07
melkorAnd you kill network manager?19:08
dupondjeSEJeff: but it has only a licence for 3 outlook in the 'free'19:08
blackvdmelkor, yep19:08
dupondjeanyway, would like to extend the Z-Push, but need to get a picture of the structure :p19:08
melkorI would suggest use lspci to figure out what your ethernet card is and get the dmesg part then google with relevant snippets to see if it is a bug that has been reported.19:09
SEJeffdupondje, I think it is like virtualbox debs you download from virtualbox.org. Free but closed source, where as the gpl version is a bit different19:09
SEJeffdupondje, If it had those restrictions it would not be in the fedora repos: http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/rpminfo?rpmID=1880881 http://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=16282819:09
SEJeffUbuntu is way more pragmatic about licensing than fedora19:09
dupondjeSEJeff: just want to modify Z-Push now, so it uses IMAP, and saves contacts to vcard and calendar to ical file19:13
SEJeffdupondje, That would be really hot19:13
dupondjeSEJeff: there is IMAP backend, there is VCard backend, just need to combine it and add iCal backend19:16
SEJeffAbsolutely19:16
dupondjeits just a bit shitty documented :)19:17
dupondjelike how it exactly works :P19:17
SEJeffSo you're saying it is like most open source... You get what you pay for. Every now and again you get a bit more heh19:17

GodfatherofEireDoes anyone know if it's possible to chainload grub2 into an isolinux loader?21:04
yofeltopyli: not quite up-to-date, but it should be fine I think21:04
Oxymoronyofel: Yeah, I got low graphic mode without nvidia driver ... So it means nvidia driver isnt working or what?21:05
yofelOxymoron: propably, ask bjsnider maybe when he's online21:05
topyliyofel, ok i'll see eventually. thanks :)21:05
Oxymoronyofel: Why just bjsnider?21:06
Oxymoronyofel: Everything else work and change video output mode in VLC make it work?21:06
yofelOxymoron: he knows a lot about bjsnider (and he's the only one I know that is in here)21:06
yofelOxymoron: well, you could always ask in #ubuntu-x if they can send you in the correct direction21:07
Oxymoronyofel: Alright, thanks :) Do you know if there is some nvidia driver channel or anything similar?21:08
KB1JWQbjsnider hauled my arse out of the fire back when I got started with Lucid.  I owe him a beer at a minimum.21:08
yofelOxymoron: I know #nvidia exists, but that's all I know21:08
Oxymoronyofel: Yeah, seem to be right place :) I will ask in there :)21:10
nightsjammiesWell, hell. I just restarted from upgrading, and I got an error saying something about the kernel crashing..and now it's telling me that 'the problem cannot be reported', this is not a genuine Ubuntu package'..21:14
nightsjammiesAny ideas?21:14
Bradpittguys. what is the cmd line to kill /var lock ..... i choose the wrong repos :(21:15
Oxymoronyofel: Sigh, nobody seem to know anything about nvidia in #nvidia channel xD21:15
yofelnightsjammies: can you refresh your package cache and try to report it again?21:15
yofel!aptlock | Bradpitt21:16

maxbIs anyone else finding the contrast in the initial GDM screen such that you can't see the controls on the top/bottom panels?21:18
maxbe.g. the "Shut Down" button21:19
yofelnightsjammies: recheck in synaptic I think, or type 'sudo apt-get update' in a terminal21:19
yofelmaxb: I think someone filed a bug for that21:19
yofelagainst gdm iirc21:20
nightsjammiesyofel: then restart?21:20
yofelnightsjammies: no, just let it refresh the cache and try to report the bug again21:20
nightsjammiesah, okay21:21

Oxymoronyofel: For the video output error I mena21:29
yofelOxymoron: no idea, could be it, but I wonder why changing the output mode helps then21:29
=== uaa is now known as damascene
arandyofel: Yea, exact one, cheers, I'm in tty atm (unrelated issue) hence the LPIYF fail.21:30
Oxymoronyofel: Yes, I dont understand at all why it doesnt work. But MOSTLY I dont freaking understand WHY JUST ME cant get it working, some other guys it work for perfectly21:30

Oxymoronyofel: But change output mode in VLC for instance, the video render is REALLY slow and you cant go fullscreen xD21:31
guntbertdamascene: please tell us, what it is about - no one likes to follow blindly21:31

guntbertnightsjammies: do you really want to different every 6 months? ;-))21:33

Oxymoronyofel: Compiz (Not the problem), XServer (Doesnt seem to be the problem), nvidia 195.36.15 (Seem not to be problem itself because it work for others) and I think about codes, phonon, KDE 4.4.1 packages for Kubuntu or something misconfigurated after an update21:35

billybigrigger_is there a proper adobe repo or .deb for flash? or are we still using the one from adobe's site?21:41
penguin42billybigrigger_: Install flashplugin-installer21:42
* Oxymoron wonders if someone know a way to reconfigure xserver, codecs and so on completly to default settings?21:43
penguin42Oxymoron: Well, ignoring Nvidia, the X config default is no xorg.conf21:45
Oxymoronpenguin42: How do you mean, the sentence make no sense for me? :P21:45
penguin42Oxymoron: By default there is no xorg.conf file, so to put the xserver back to the default remove the xorg.conf; however I know the Nvidia closed source binary may do things differently21:46
Oxymoronpenguin42: Alright :P Well, without xorg.conf file it works, but I want my high resolution and graphic acceleration :P But I dont think it has anything to do with nVidia or XServer at all anymore. Its something else, the interaction between nvidia and whatever it could be.21:48

ubottuUbuntu bug 504165 in evolution "Evolution freezes when pressing HOME while editing RTL email with weak directionality characters" [Medium,Confirmed]21:49
damasceneI've confirmed it21:49
Oxymoronpenguin42: What protocols are responsible to provide multimedia apps like Dragonplayer with a video window? Because Wine cant either create windows, it complained about something openGL I think.21:49
penguin42damascene: I'm curious, what is a 'weak directionality character' ?21:50
damasceneI don't know exactly but there is one line that can make this problem21:50
damascenethis:21:50
damascenehttp://wiki.arabeyes.org/ نعم21:50
pepeeevery time there is a kernel update, I have to install the headers manually...21:50
penguin42Oxymoron: Well video is done by one of 3 or 4 mechanisms; OpenGL, Xv,  or basic stuff where the X server doesn't do anything special;  If you have OpenGL issues on Wine and you've got Nvidia then it's probably the nvidia driver21:50
damascenecopy it to new messeage go to the end of the line then press Home21:51
pepeeis there a way to force dl the headers for the updated kernel?21:51
pepee(in the same update)21:51
penguin42damascene: But can you explain to me what a 'weak' character is - aren't all characters either ltr or rtl ?21:51
Lajoswardanyone haveing problems with the wine being provided by the software center?21:51
Oxymoronpenguin42: I dont know, it said before unable to create window in terminal ... Now I got winecfg work anyway in temrinal :P Xv is the output channel in VLC for the moment and then video work, but really slow.21:52
penguin42pepee: Install linux-headers-generic; that will keep it uptodate (although not necessarily in line with the kernel?)21:52
penguin42Oxymoron: Does glxgears work?21:52
Oxymoronpenguin42: What more combinations and protocols could it be?21:52
damascenepenguin42, may the reporter meant marks like * . - that behave in strange way with bidirectional text21:52
pepeeok, thanks21:52

penguin42Oxymoron: OK, so if you're Nvidia then you need to configure the driver for it, it sounds like you don't have something set up for OpenGL at all21:53
penguin42Oxymoron: Video is done by one of mplayer or xine backends; but they use OpenGL, Xv or a few other things to actually do teh rendering21:54
bjsnidernvidia-current must be installed and activated and in the xorg.conf file21:54
Oxymoronpenguin42: How to setup for OpenGL then? xD21:54
Oxymoronbjsnider: Oh yeah, activated how in xorg.conf file?21:55
penguin42Oxymoron: That's an nvidia specific21:55
Oxymoronpenguin42: How for nVidia then? xD21:55
bjsniderOxymoron, just use jockey. it's all been done for you21:55
penguin42Oxymoron: Follow bjsnider, I'm an ATI guy!21:56
Oxymoronbjsnider: Funny thing is that Jockey tells me that nvidia-current us activates but not in use? :D21:56
Oxymoronpenguin42: LoL, traitor :D21:56
penguin42Oxymoron: Hey, ATI released all the specs and I'm using the OpenSource driver - now what were you saying?21:56
bjsniderpenguin42, in that case, fire yourself so they can hire someone good21:57
IntuitiveNippleIs there a known issue with a fresh Lucid Gnome install causing nautilus to restart constantly (twice per second) eating CPU and flickering the screen with a "Starting File Manager" tasks icon ?21:57
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron: I was looking at that issue (nvidia-current not active, but in use) the other day; it looks to be a mix-up with the module aliases in jockey21:58
penguin42bjsnider: Hey I'm not employed by them21:58
Lamocurious what was the reason for moving the close, minimize, expand panel to the left side?21:58
bjsniderpenguin42, oh, i misunderstood21:59
Oxymoronpenguin42: That it doesnt matter, nVidia is still better? :D OpenSource != automaticly best xD22:00
SEJeffLamo, They want to add a new button on the right that does some crazy stuff in the release after Lucid from my understanding22:01
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Hmm alright, well nvidia is switched on then I guess :) But still got error, please help me fix this before I go berserk and Kill my GNU/Linux distro :D22:01
LamoSEJeff, thanks22:02
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, as long as it is working... just don't stare at the Jockey dialog all day!22:02
dbuggerHey guys!22:04
dbuggerAnybody knows if the mythbuntu bug has been solved?22:04
IntuitiveNippledbugger, There's only one?!22:05
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Jockey isnt the problem :P That I have been left behind me ;) And no it isnt working, I NEED to get video working. Its strange, no video output in one single multimedia player, not even mplayer22:05
dbuggerIntuitiveNipple, one what?22:05
aranddbugger: Yes, if you got hit by it, you need to do some package business manually though.22:05
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, ok, then have you confirmed the nvidia proprietary driver is in use by X ?22:06
dbuggerarand, Im already back at the clean Karmic install. Im waiting for that bug to pass, to upgrade. I wanted to know if it's safe now22:06
aranddbugger: fix was released 22h ago, if you're not using a very slow-syncing mirror it should be in.22:07
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: YEs, 195.36.15 is in use by X, but I dont know if its proprietary?22:12
yofelit is22:12
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: As I said before and tell again, I dont think its anything to do with X or nVidia driver22:12
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, If you checked using glxinfo and saw "OpenGL version string: 2.1.2 NVIDIA 195.36.15" then it is22:13
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Not my themselves anyway22:13
bjsniderOxymoron, you are not using the nvidia driver22:13
Oxymoronoxymoron@oxymoron-desktop:~$ glxinfo22:13

OxymoronError: couldn't find RGB GLX visual or fbconfig22:13
Oxymoronbjsnider: How do you know that?22:13
bjsniderbecause if you were, glxinfo would give you a very different response22:14
Oxymoronbjsnider: How do I activate nvidia driver then?22:14
bjsniderOxymoron, what is your graphics hardware, sir?22:14
Oxymoronbjsnider: nVidia 7950 GT22:14
bjsniderupgrade that, please sir22:15
bjsniderwhat does your xorg.conf file say?22:15
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, This is what you should expect to see: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/406185/22:15
penguin42anyone use html5 in chromium? I have a bit fo an odd problem with it22:16
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Yes, I saw that eralier today ...22:16
Oxymoronbjsnider: Upgrade to a better graphic card? pfft22:16
veszIs there any info posted somewhere on how to get the fglrx module working with X? Can't seem to google well enough to find anything22:16
Oxymoronbjsnider: Wait a sec and I send you pastebin of xorg.conf22:17
bjsnideryou can benefit from vdpau with a newer card22:17
bjsniderand opengl 322:17
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, ok, then you should look first at /var/log/dmesg to ensure the nvidia stub is loaded, and that at /var/log/Xorg.0.log to see what driver and config X is choosing22:17
OxymoronIs there a good command to copy source from e text file to clipboard?22:17
IntuitiveNippleSelect the text; Ctrl+C to copy22:18
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: yofel said that Xorg.0.log showed that it uses nVidia 195.36.15, not exactly surw about dmesg though.22:18
alex88to remove"this feature cannot be enabled because the required packages are not installed" from gnome-file-share-properties what should i install? i've installed samba22:18
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Yeah, but isnt there any good command?22:18
alex88and no solution22:18
IntuitiveNipple(assuming you're using a GUI text editor of course)22:18
yofelbjsnider: btw, do you know any newer cards that don't require an PCIe x16 2.0 slot? I wanted to get myself a newer one, but it seems something along a 8800 (or 8600?) gts would be the only thing that fits in my mainboard22:18
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, do you have a pastebin link to your Xorg.0.log ?22:18
Oxymoronbjsnider: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/406186/22:19
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Wait a sec I copy that too22:19
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: http://pastebin.ubuntu.com/406187/22:20
veszOxymoron: you can install pastebinit and then 'cat xorg.conf | pastebinit22:21
veszOxymoron: and you get an URL back22:21
Oxymoronyofel: I would wait until nVidia discover that they actually can design smaller graphic cards and not every body are FPS fanboys xD22:22
yofel^^22:22
Oxymoronvesz: Oh my god, seriously?! Why havent somebody tipped me about that one, awesome! <3 Thank you very much!22:22
veszOxymoron: np :)22:22
veszagain, anyone got any guidelines for catalyst/fglrx drivers/modules in 10.4?22:24
penguin42vesz: I saw a fix go in for that yesterday I think22:24
Oxymoronvesz: I love it, do you know if that url come to clip board or do you need to copy URL?22:24
veszOxymoron: need to copy it I'm afraid22:25
veszOxymoron: still alot less to copy, and fewer times22:25
veszpenguin42: fix go into the repos? or some docu22:25
veszpenguin42: or is it lost forever in the irc logs :)22:25
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, can you give me this: grep -i nvidia /var/log/dmesg | pastebinit22:26
penguin42vesz: I think it was a fix that went into a repo22:26
darkfilecheck this: http://bit.ly/cRQWcB22:26
veszpenguin42: doesn't seem to work on my end, but perhaps I'm doing something wrong :)22:26
veszpenguin42: I'll just wait and see22:27
veszpenguin42: ty anyway22:28
bjsniderOxymoron, run update-alternatives display gl_conf'22:28

redi did, no such file22:31
redand it was a clients webpages index.html :D22:31
IntuitiveNipplered: restore from VCS then22:31

Oxymoronsorry about "spam"/flloding22:32
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, Argghhh... the idea is to pastebinit :p22:32
bjsniderOxymoron, have you got /usr on a separate partition?22:33
jemarkthe ubuntu one doesn't work anymore in lucid for me... 100% CPU usage, etc...22:33
Oxymoronbjsnider: No, /usr is on same partition what I know about22:33
SEJeffjemark, Can you /j #ubuntuone22:33
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: How to use pastebinit on temrinal command output? :P22:34
IntuitiveNipplered: Useful Tip: when working on important files add them to a VCS. I use git-core. git init; git add *; git commit -a -m "Original Files". Then I commit each change and I can back out at any time and later can return to the history22:34
redIntuitiveNipple: I know VCS and I use it on my own projects, as said, I was just taking a looksy on a clients webpage whom I've made an intranet for. Was gonna see how its built up before adding the url to the intranet there.22:35
redGeany just went awol and blew the damn thing apart somehow22:35
FFForevezHi ya22:35
FFForevezHas anyone else lost sound with the last round of updates?22:35
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, For any command that writes its output to STDOUT (console) you can 'pipe' | the output to a following command. So, append " | pastebinit" to a command22:35
* Oxymoron almost cry like a baby that he cant get it to work together with people who know what they are doing :P22:35
redGuess I'll e-mail the webhotell administration since they must keep backups22:35
redthen I'll backup the whole ordeal before touching again :p22:35
IntuitiveNipplered: yeah, my point is I *always* VCS something before I touch it22:36
FFForevezVCS?22:36
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Alright :) btw, cat ... or nvm I look on manual22:36
redversioncontrol22:36
IntuitiveNippleFFForevez, Verson Control system22:36
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, You'd use 'cat' to write a text file to the console, but if a command generates output you don't cat to capture its output, just add the pipe22:37
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, so "update-alternatives --display gl_conf | pastebinit"22:37
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: Alright, good to know. Hopefully I remember this now in pastebinit :P22:37
Oxymoronhttp://pastebin.com/mmqjBDjQ22:38
OxymoronAh, fast as hell <322:38
bjsniderOxymoron, update-alternatives --set gl_conf /etc/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf22:38
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, Right, and that shows the problem22:38
bjsnidersudo ldconfig22:38
Oxymoronbjsnider: Uhm, I got this problem: "update-alternatives: error: alternativet /etc/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf för gl_conf har inte registrerats, ställer inte in.   "22:39
IntuitiveNipplebjsnider, Oxymoron might be better to do "sudo apt-get --reinstall install nvidia-current"22:39
xfacthello22:39
Oxymoronbjsnider: WHich mean it havent been configured for gl_conf and dont setup22:39
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: I have removed and reinstalled like million time :P22:39
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, do the apt-get --reinstall I've recommended. That should ensure the package is correctly setup22:39
jemarknobody responds in ubuntu one...22:40
bjsniderOxymoron, i don't speak that language22:40
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: If I remember riht, as of Lucid you have to manually register nvidia driver22:40
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, when it reinstalls, check if any errors or warnings are reported22:40
Oxymoronbjsnider: Yes, I explained ;)22:40
orbarronhello all --> I am trying to download Lucid beta release but I am having an issue with debootstrap... I removed it and reinstalled debootstrap_1.0.20_all.deb but I am still not able to pull down Lucid getting the following error --> Your debootstrap installation does not seem to have support for the Lucid distribution22:40
OxymoronIntuitiveNipple: If I remember riht, as of Lucid you have to manually register nvidia driver22:40
Oxymoronbjsnider: update-alternatives: error: alternative /etc/nvidia-current/ld.so.conf for gl_conf havent been registered, dont setup.22:41
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, I've not seen anything documented along those lines; the package is responsible for ensuring it is fully installed and configured22:41
bjsniderOxymoron, reinstall nvidia-current22:42
IntuitiveNippleI have to do some work here that involves logging off - still got nautilus restarting twice a second, grrr22:42
IntuitiveNippleOxymoron, Good luck with that22:42
xfactAnyone can tell me that duel booting Karmic and ;ucid is possbile?22:43
almoxarifeok, so I debified the latest irssi client, is there a way to submit something like that into the ubuntu world?22:43
xfact*Lucid22:43
FFForevezHow can I get my sound back?22:44
FFForevezI stand corrected I just have no sound in flash =\22:45
yofelalmoxarife: usually we sync the irssi package from debian, but if you want to try ask in #ubuntu-motu22:45
yofelalmoxarife: but as we are past the feature freeze I doubt they'll accept it for lucid22:46
ZykoticK9xfact, i'm duel booting karmic & lucid right now22:46
xfactZykoticK9, Cool, I should go for it22:47
almoxarifeyofel: perhaps you right, as it turned out the client is a reminder of what it was like to go back to manual clothes washing, I am not sure what the hype is, or there is something I am not seeing, both!22:47
Oxymoronbjsnider: I got this ... http://pastebin.com/qqDx5QtK22:49
yofelalmoxarife: haha, well I think irssi is the best cli client out there, and irssi+screen+ssh is great if you want to stay connected all the time and have a server (well, quassel can do that too now)22:49
xfactOnly one thing fears me, that is last time after running an update my gnome was inaccessible, so if this time happens then I will lose lots of data like last time22:49
veszFFForevez: could try removing ~/.mozilla/firefox/*.default/pluginreg.dat and restart firefox, if that's what you're using :)22:49
veszFFForevez: otherwise I have no idea22:49
kklimondagreat, my firefox is leaking memory like crazy..22:50
kklimondaand using a lot of cpu.. hmm..22:50
almoxarifeyofel: I barely scratched the surface of the client I guess, what's the 'screen' importance?22:50
yofel!screen | almoxarife22:51
ubottualmoxarife: Screen is a window manager for terminal sessions, also useful over SSH. See https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Screen22:51
bjsniderOxymoron, now do sudo ldconfig and restart x22:51
almoxarifeyofel: is 'terminator' a 'screen'?22:52
FFForevezvesz, you rock, what is in pluginreg.dat?22:52
almoxarife!terminator22:53
yofelalmoxarife: only if you can open terminator in an ssh session, disconnect from it, close the ssh session, create a new ssh session and open the terminator window again that you had running before22:54
veszFFForevez: think it's where the flashplugin etc is auto confed when you launch firefox22:55
veszFFForevez: new flashplugin, but you probably had your old 9.10 .mozilla folder22:55
veszFFForevez: so confed for an old plugin :)22:55
veszFFForevez: or something, I don't know the internal workings exactly22:55
FFForevezvesz, it worked before ;)22:55
FFForevezI have been on 10.04 for ~2 weeks22:56
veszFFForevez: aha22:56
veszFFForevez: glad it worked anyways :)22:56
almoxarifeyofel: I am guessing terminator does not.22:56
yofelalmoxarife: screen is even useful on the pc you're working on, like you install updates  and X dies, if you run apt-get in a screen session it will just continue and you can open the screen session from a tty for example, or just restart X and continue where you left of22:56
FFForevezyeah you are a life saver22:56
vesz:)22:56
almoxarifeyofel: I understand now, thnks, does it have a gui ??? :)22:57
yofelalmoxarife: there's a bunch of scripts called byobu that make screen a bit nicer to use22:57
Oxymoronbjsnider: Doesnt seem to work after ldconfig either and restart x22:57
yofelalmoxarife: well, no, it's a terminal manager, like: open a terminal, run  screen, disconnect from it, open a new terminal and open the running screen session there22:58
BUGabundoguys tell me something22:59
BUGabundoopening one of the new indicator applets23:00
BUGabundoand then moving/hoovering the mouse over another23:00
BUGabundowill also expand that one23:00
almoxarifeyofel: I am the gui who would rather take a week to find the gui method to a problem than to just open a terminal23:00
BUGabundois this desirable ?23:00
almoxarifeguy23:00
yofelalmoxarife: heh, understandable, well like I said, quassel is like a gui version of what irssi+screen+ssh can do ^^23:01
BUGabundoalmoxarife: OTOH the first thing to show up on my laptop, after login is gnome-terminal23:01
penguin42BUGabundo: Some people prefer it that way23:01
BUGabundopenguin42: I rather don't!23:01
BUGabundoI want it to open WHAT I click one23:01
BUGabundoif I get +1 from anyone, ill file a bug23:01
* yofel has byobu open in yakuake all the time :D23:01
BUGabundo(yay for 4th UI bug I file)23:02
almoxarifeI loaded kubuntu on top of ubuntu after an upgrade and kubuntu was/is problem free, good job ubuntu/kubuntu23:02
=== KatieOffline is now known as KatieKitty
almoxarifeyofel: quassel you say, must look then23:02
Oxymoronbjsnider: Do you have any more suggestions? :)23:03
qebexhello, i removed lxdm and installed slim. in lubuntu now there is no boot at all23:03
almoxarifenevermind there is a bug of sorts, my pointer is the kubuntu default, but I am in ubuntu, that a bug or just the way it works?23:04
penguin42almoxarife: Now I've got that problem as well!23:05
almoxarifepenguin42: the pointer from kubuntu?23:05
yofelqebex: is slim set as the default window manager for X? and did you make sure it get's started on boot?23:05
BUGabundoI guess I'm alone on this :(23:05
penguin42almoxarife: Yeh23:05
almoxarifepenguin42: and trying to change it in destop prefs does nothing23:06
qebexyofel: there is not inittab and even run level 1 will not work23:06
yofelpenguin42, almoxarife: the default pointer should be set by some update-alternatives setting iirc23:06
penguin42yofel: Isn't it part of the theme?23:06
penguin42actually it is, I've frigged with that code before - I bet KDE has put a custom pointer in the home directory or something23:07
almoxarifeyofel: I don't understand what you said23:07
yofelpenguin42: if you set it yes, but the default is defined by /etc/alternatives/x-cursor-theme23:07
yofelwhich should use oxygen-white if it's installed I think23:07
penguin42yofel: Good spot! It's got itself set to oxy-white.theme23:08
almoxarifeyofel: that's the pointer I have now, oxy white23:08
WizzupCurrent ubuntu packages break nautilus: nautilus-data wants to remove nautilus23:08
yofelalmoxarife, penguin42: best you use galternatives to set something different then ;)23:08
Oxymoronyofel: Do you know where bjspider and the other guy went? :P23:08
yofelOxymoron: the other guy said he had to work, dunno about bjsnider, what's your state now?23:09
Oxymoronyofel: Status quo I guess, which mean nothing new still same old computer I guess ...23:10
yofelOxymoron: so gl_conf still broken?23:10
RambJoehow do i install ati drivers?23:10
Oxymoronyofel: gl_conf seem to work okey :)23:11
almoxarifeyofel: so, if I start quassel client in ubuntu and log out of ubuntu into kubuntu I should still have the client up?? is that the point?23:11
orbarronall: can lucid be created from rootstock? or are the  ISOs and  torrents the only way to go?23:11
yofelOxymoron: but glxgears still doesn't work?23:11
RambJoehttps://launchpad.net/ubuntu/lucid/+source/fglrx-installer/2:8.721-0ubuntu1 does that work23:11
yofelalmoxarife: well, the point is more like: have the core running on your sever and be connected 24/7 and you can connect from every pc that can connect to the server23:12
yofelalmoxarife: but yes, you can use it like that too23:13
Oxymoronyofel: glxgears work :)23:13
Oxymoronyofel:23:13

yofelOxymoron: but video still doesn't ?23:13
yofelOxymoron: hm, vdpau should be HD video acceleration, not sure if you need it (more like it shouldn't work with a GF723:14
yofel)23:14
veszRambJoe: don't think ATI has given us a driver that works with xserver 1.7 yet, which lucid uses23:14
veszRambJoe: They have promised to release one before the offical release though :)23:15
Oxymoronyofel: Yeah, video doesnt work unfortunatly ... Alright, well I dont need HD Video anyway23:15
RambJoecool thanks :)23:15
RambJoeso like a month23:15
penguin42RambJoe: Try your 3d app anyway, the opensource drivers work well enough for google earth and some 3d shootem-ups23:15
RambJoewhich open source ones do i install?23:16
RambJoei ahve none atm lol23:16
penguin42RambJoe: The drivers installed by Ubuntu by default should do 3d on an R6xx or R7xx video card or older, maybe not newer ones than that23:16
RambJoeoh cool, is that 4870?23:17
RambJoei'm getting 5870 soon but they're should be official drivers then? :)23:17
penguin42I think that should work23:17
RambJoeshame it has no Steam yet D:23:18
drbobbOK so I made a bootable sdcard from the desktop iso image by using unetbootin, but found it unusable cause my video does not work with lucid, at all. Are there boot args that would make the live desktop start in vesa mode23:18
drbobb?23:18
penguin42RambJoe: I have the Radeon 4350 (RV710 chip) and it seems good23:18
RambJoe:)23:18
veszpenguin42: not sure if they work on the newer desktop cards, atleast neither radeon or radeonhd works for me :( both monitors auto shutdown23:19
veszpenguin42: if you did something special to get your to work please share :)23:19
penguin42vesz: Which card?23:19
drbobbI used to know how to achieve this but this stuff changes with every release23:19
RambJoei didn't do anything to make my 4870 work23:19
veszpenguin42: HD577023:19
RambJoejust could be a bit smoother23:20
penguin42vesz: I use the xorg-edgers daily stuff, so that's pretty new - ah the 5xxx are different chips again I think23:20
veszpenguin42: aha, reading some bug report thread now, see if I find something invigorating23:21
veszpenguin42: hope those ATI guys release a good driver when they finally do23:21
penguin42vesz: The RV7xx chips should work with the free drivers, not sure if they've looked at whatever is in the 577023:21
RambJoethe new drivers have ogl 3.3 and 4.0 dont they?23:22

bcurtiswx_laptopwhy isn't evolution 2.29.92 in Lucid?23:31
penguin42vesz: Yes so I think that will need frglx for a while23:31
bcurtiswx_laptopis it because it's in experimental?23:31
arandbcurtiswx_laptop: 10.04 was synced from debian-testing afaik..23:32
yofelbcurtiswx_laptop: I guess  nobody came up with a justification why to sync it from experimental, what we have now came from unstable23:33
bcurtiswx_laptopyofel: yeah, i don't get it23:33
yofelbcurtiswx_laptop: why?23:33
bcurtiswx_laptoplucid has 2.28.3, just seems off it's not at 2.30 right now with evolution upstream23:34
bcurtiswx_laptops/off/odd23:34
yofelfor an LTS we auto-sync from testing, you can request syncs from unstable, but syncing from experimental requires a good explenation23:34
yofelbcurtiswx_laptop: well, ask the debian maintainers why it's in experimental then, the new debian release should be soon as well I think, and they'll propably stick with 2.28 too23:35
bcurtiswx_laptopyofel: im not even sure its in experimental23:35
yofelbcurtiswx_laptop: it is, I checked23:35
yofelhttp://yofel.pastebin.com/hEuXmStP23:35
bcurtiswx_laptopyofel: ok thx23:36
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: destkop team has decided that evolution 2.30 is too risky for LTS23:37
Viper1432speaking of evolution...just went to do my lucid daily updates, and its wanting to do a partial upgrade by getting rid of about 50 apps....and not putting them back...including evolution.  would that be a sync issue?23:37
bcurtiswx_laptopkklimonda: is there a discussion on the ML i can read?23:37
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: hmm.. I haven't seen any23:38
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: the main argument against 2.30 is the fact that upstream have rewritten quite a lot of code and it's not as stable as it should be.23:39
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: RedHat is going to do the same and upstream has agreed to keep 2.28 branch alive for some time23:39
bcurtiswx_laptopkklimonda: yeah, i figured that may be the case.  I noticed they were doing a good chunk of rewrite.. surprised a lot of other packages haven't  with GNOME 3 coming23:40
kklimondaprobably because evolution carries a lot more ancient code than most..23:40
kklimondaI still think the new mail client should be written on the Evo backend23:41
bcurtiswx_laptopkklimonda: lol, good way to put it.  Thx23:41
kklimondaand separate contacts, calendar etc.23:41

kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: true, it should also use telepathy (but evo have a really good backend that can be reused - anjal does it)23:42
=== apt-get-4-lif is now known as Cloaky8x
kklimondaunfortunately anjal is uninstallable in lucid23:42
topylikklimonda, i agree. e-d-s is okay, but we could use separate apps for all that stuff. the address book should be telepathic of course, and integrate with emmpathy23:42
bcurtiswx_laptopkklimonda: getting things gnome is a good start23:43
Cloaky8x@ Obsidian1723-2 :)23:43
bcurtiswx_laptopseparate to-do list23:43
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: I'm not going to comment on that because I've used GTD application on Mac and I'd rather not hurt feelings of people who do code in their free time :)23:43
topylie-d-s should still remain, we have great synchronizing stuff i would hate to throw away23:44

arandbsmith093: hardy->lucid is (or will be) supported, otherwise it needs to be done in steps23:47
Obsidian1723-2afaik you must go 9.04 > 9.10 > 10.0423:47

kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: hmm.. no, I don't think so23:49
bcurtiswx_laptopi have three servers at work with last LTS.. i really hope the LTS to LTS upgrades work pretty darn well23:49
bsmith093so if i have jaunty can i just wait for lucid to come out and upgrade then23:50
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: as long as you don't do the upgrade in the release day - I think LTS->LTS upgrades are going to be postponed for some time23:50
penguin42bcurtiswx_laptop: They do test that, now whether it works for your particular servers or not - certainly not an upgrade I'd plan while having the users waiting23:50
yofelbsmith093: you'll have to upgrade to karmic first and then to lucid23:50
bcurtiswx_laptopkklimonda: i don't mind waiting, but Im strongly for upgrading.  Just hope all our services don't break (too badly).. otherwise it'll be a busy weekend for me and my boss23:51
yofelbcurtiswx_laptop: the LTS->LTS upgrade tests I did before beta1 went fine, but I'm not sure how good init script migration for servers is done at the moment, the simple desktop setup works23:52
penguin42bcurtiswx_laptop: It might be worth setting up a vm replicating the conditions on your existing machines and trying upgrading that23:52
kklimondabcurtiswx_laptop: you should really do a test or two :)23:52

Does anyone have any idea ?23:53
kklimondaObsidian1723-2: hmm?23:53
