seidosis there a particular place in launchpad to create bugs for lucid?00:22
nhandlerseidos: What is the bug?00:22
seidossuspend/resume isn't working properly when I open my laptop's lid to resume.  it restarts instead of resuming00:22
seidosit doesn't appear to happen when I suspend then use the power button to resume without closing the lid00:23
seidosnhandler ^00:24
nhandlerseidos: Maybe try https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/SuspendResumeTesting00:26
nhandlerseidos: It looks like if the tests fail, apport will detet the failure and prompt you to report a bug (with lots of useful info attached)00:28
seidosnhandler, the script doesn't work on my system, and the bug that I have won't turn up on the scripted testing they are performing.  maybe I can get some information on what I should do here:  http://www.ubuntu.com/testing/lucid/beta100:35
nhandlerseidos: File it against linux and read https://wiki.ubuntu.com/KernelTeam/KernelTeamBugPolicies00:41
seidosnhandler, sorry I meant to post about this link: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs in this channel, not in dev01:14
the_Mechanichi i'm having a static ip issue; ubuntu 9.1 I had it working but then I got a new router. the old router was 192.168.1.1 this one is 192.168.2.1, i changed my /etc/network/interfaces file to match that now i get an error "SIOCADDRT: File exists" when i tried to restart networking, i googled that but nothing I found seemed to help/apply so i'm kind of stuck01:15
the_Mechanichttp://codepad.org/FVpoTQBi   is what my interfaces file looks like (currently its set to dhcp so i can get online :)01:20
seidosthe_Mechanic, if it were me I would try to go back to 192.168.1.1 on your new router to see if that fixes it.01:27
the_Mechanicok yeah thats a thought01:32
the_Mechanicstill id like to figure out how to do it the "right way"; actually i find a setting in this new router to always assign the mac address on this pc a set number so I've got my static now (in a round about way) but yeah i'm just trying to learn some linux now, trying to figure out what i did wrong01:33
seidosthe_Mechanic, I don't know enough about networking to help.  I don't even remember what file you have to edit to assign a static ip.  Isn't it like interfaces or something?02:01
the_Mechanicyeah that is the file i was messing with02:01
seidosI think I assigned a static ip once when I was messing with the idea of setting up a server02:02
seidosI don't see why it wouldn't work.  your interfaces file looks fine to me, that's why I thought it might be the actual ip addresses assigned for gateway, subnet mask, etc.02:03
seidosI forget what that's called.  The tcp/ip configuration I guess02:04
seidosI know their are rules like 255.255.255.0 specifies what part of the address is the network address and what part is for the client02:05
the_Mechanicyeah i did some reading, it seemed like the new network setting might conflict with a different file but i couldn't find it.... i really didn't understand much of it02:05
the_Mechanicyeah that the mask02:05
seidosthere's another file aside from interfaces where static ip address information is kept?02:05
the_Mechanicthat is what my googling led me to believe, but i didn't understand much of it02:05
seidosweird02:06
the_Mechanicsomething like it was conflicting with maybe the network card settings or something02:06
seidosthat doesn't say very much to me02:07
seidossomeone else might be able to help you02:07
the_Mechanichttp://ubuntuforums.org/archive/index.php/t-557623.html02:07
seidosthere are some really knowledgable guys on here02:08
seidoslike ibuclaw might be able to give you some more help, but he might want more details about your set up and your problem02:08
the_Mechanicyeah i'm sure lots of peeps know, just they are afk :)02:10
the_Mechaniclike that forum mentions /etc/iftab file, but i don't have that file02:10
the_Mechaniclike it said "The only times I've seen "SIOCADDRT: File exists" is when setting the same route multiple times. If multiple interfaces are on the same net, try omitting the gateway on one config."   but this confuses me02:11
seidosomitting the gateway kind of makes sense to me02:13
seidosif you have multiple cards on one system won't having two gateways kind of mean the system is acting as a router?02:14
seidosI don't have an /etc/iftab file either02:14

st4aluckCan somebody help me to install and configure my wireless router?09:27
lukjad86st4aluck What model is the router?11:22
lukjad86Bah :\11:24
DonScottlol, in his defense he asked about 2 hours ago.11:25
lukjad86DonScott Yeah, but the timing was amazing :D11:25
lukjad86st4aluck What model is the router?11:47
lukjad86afk11:47
st4alucklukjad86:  it' conceptronic C300BRS411:49
st4alucklukjad86: I was playing for 2-3 huors and still can't do it11:50
lukjad86Yeesh11:56
st4alucklukjad86: I conect it the computer but it doesn't asign the IP address automatically!?!?11:56
lukjad86st4aluck Can you ping the router?11:57
st4alucklukjad86: how!?!11:57
lukjad86st4aluck Pull up the command promp11:57
lukjad86st4aluck Pull up the command prompt11:57
lukjad86That's at Applications->Accessories->Terminal11:58
st4aluckok11:58
lukjad86and type: ping 192.168.1.111:58
lukjad86Tell me what happens11:58
st4aluckso I have to diconect now and to conect the router!?!?11:59
lukjad86if it gives you something like:11:59
lukjad86PING 192.168.1.1 (192.168.1.1) 56(84) bytes of data.11:59
lukjad8664 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.776 ms11:59
lukjad8664 bytes from 192.168.1.1: icmp_seq=1 ttl=64 time=0.776 ms11:59
lukjad86st4aluck Then that is good11:59
lukjad86st4aluck Then what you would do is go and open firefox and type: 192.168.1.111:59
lukjad86st4aluck The router box should tell you what the default IP of your router should be12:00
lukjad86Or the box the router came in12:00
lukjad86If it's not 192.168.1.1, replace with what it says12:00
lukjad86Then follow the steps12:00
lukjad86When you are in firefox, it will ask you for a passworld12:01
lukjad86*password12:01
lukjad86st4aluck The username sometimes is blank, or admin. then the password is usually admin or adminadmin12:01
st4alucklukjad86: ok but first  I have to ping the router and let you see what is giving, right?12:02
lukjad86st4aluck pinging the router is just the first step12:03
lukjad86st4aluck if it fails and says something like: ping: unknown host 192.168.1.112:03
lukjad86then you know that the IP is not 192.168.1.112:03
st4alucklukjad86: ok then I am going to disconect for a minute12:03
lukjad86st4aluck Okay, bai :)12:03
s4alucklukjad86: $ ping 192.168.0.112:08
s4aluckconnect: Network is unreachable12:08
lukjad86s4aluck Did you check the box for the IP address?12:08
lukjad86s4aluck usually they list it12:08
lukjad86Or in the manual12:08
lukjad86s4aluck Try  192.168.2.1, that's what the manual says12:09
lukjad86s4aluck http://download.conceptronic.net/Network/C100BRS4H/C100BRS4H_EN.pdf12:09
lukjad86That should help you set it up a bit12:09
s4alucklukjad86: IP of the router is 192.168.0.112:10
lukjad86s4aluck Ah, okay, try that then12:10
s4aluckI tryied both just I have to try 192.168.2.1 in my manual is 192.168.0.112:11
s4alucklukjad86: I tryied both just I have to try 192.168.2.1 in my manual is 192.168.0.112:13
lukjad86s4aluck Does network manager say you are connected to a wired/wireless network? Also, can you connect to it via a wire?12:14
s4alucklukjad86: I conected it but there was no internet acces12:15
lukjad86s4aluck Did you set it up with your password?12:16
lukjad86for your ISP12:16
s4alucklukjad86: no12:17
lukjad86s4aluck Well, I guess you need to do that12:17
s4alucklukjad86: tell me how12:18
lukjad86s4aluck There should be a quick setup button when you go to firefox and type 192.168.2.1 or 192.168.0.112:21
s4alucklukjad86: ok let me try, bye12:22
lukjad86k12:22
lukjad86s4aluck Don't forget the password12:22
lukjad86s4aluck It should be in your manual12:23
st4alucklukjad86: nothing, there is no internet acces only the router was conected when I gave an IP 192.168.0.112:36
lukjad86st4aluck But did you manage to get to the router?12:37
st4alucklukjad86: no it gives me an error mesage12:38
lukjad86st4aluck Does your ubuntu network manager notice you are connected to the router?12:39
st4alucklukjad86: couldn't access the address12:39
st4alucklukjad86: yes12:39
lukjad86st4aluck Well, you should be able to connect to the router then... :\12:40
st4aluckmay be the router is fucked up cause I took it from my sister12:40
lukjad86The only thing I can think of is that someone changed the default IP of the router12:41
lukjad86st4aluck Can you reset the router?12:41
st4alucklukjad86: yes I reseted it several times and it's all the same12:42
lukjad86hm...12:42
st4alucklukjad86: I better go to the shop cause is still on warranty!?12:43
lukjad86So, let's be clear. You can't ping 192.168.x.1, the network manager which is up at the top right shows you are connected to the network but you can't go to firefox and connect to it.12:44
lukjad86Am I right st4aluck ?12:44
st4alucklukjad86: When I search for the IP I actualy don't connect tointernet but to the router is that right12:44
lukjad86st4aluck so you can get to the router from firefox?12:46
st4alucklukjad86: that right firefox is giving me error mesage even the menagger shos me that I am conected12:46
lukjad86You get a page or at least a prompt for the password?12:46
st4alucklukjad86: no12:49
st4alucklukjad86: nothing, firefox says could not load the address12:50
st4alucklukjad86: so the addres is wrong or somebody changed it12:50
lukjad86Hm12:51
st4alucklukjad86: even I reset the router it's the same12:51
st4alucklukjad86: should go to the shop I think12:52
lukjad86Give me a sec12:52
lukjad86st4aluck Do you have nmap installed?12:53
st4alucklukjad86: I don't know, let me check12:54
st4alucklukjad86: no I don't12:54
lukjad86st4aluck sudo apt-get install nmap12:54
st4aluckok12:55
st4alucklukjad86: then12:55
lukjad86k, just testing at home, then I'll tell you12:56
st4aluckok12:57
lukjad86st4aluck I want you do run these commands when you switch back the the router:12:58
lukjad86nmap 192.168.1.0-255 > /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/Desktop/nmap.txt12:59
lukjad86nmap 192.168.2.0-255 >> /home/YOUR_USER_NAME/Desktop/nmap.txt12:59
lukjad86Replacing YOUR_USER_NAME with whatever you call yourself on your PC12:59
st4aluckThat's all?12:59
lukjad86st4aluck Yeah, I want to see if we can find your router13:00
st4aluckok13:00
st4aluckbye13:00
lukjad86st4aluck When you get back, you'll show it to me13:00

lukjad86st4aluck Okay, could you go to pastebin.com and paste what you got?13:08
st4alucklukjad86: nmap 192.168.1.0-255 > /home/stc/Desktop/nmap.txtmass_dns: warning: Unable to determine any DNS servers. Reverse DNS is disabled. Try using --system-dns or specify valid servers with --dns-servers13:08
lukjad86oh13:08
st4alucklukjad86: hoe to enable it13:09
lukjad86st4aluck Hm, well I'm tapped out. I can only advise you to try posting a question on the forums or going to #ubuntu and see if anyone can help13:10
lukjad86st4aluck http://ubuntuforums.org/forumdisplay.php?f=33613:10
lukjad86st4aluck that would be the forum you should post this to13:10
st4alucklukjad86: The DNS serve is to be on the router?13:11
lukjad86st4aluck Usually, yeah13:12
lukjad86so it sounds like the router isn't working or something13:13
st4alucklukjad86: my sister told me that she had problem with it13:13
lukjad86st4aluck Hm, then I would bring this back to the store if it's under warranty13:14
lukjad86Hey nigelb13:14
st4alucklukjad86: she runs windows and it was disconecting13:14
lukjad86st4aluck Looks like the router is borked then13:14
lukjad86st4aluck I had a router that was like that13:15
lukjad86It would randomly disconnect me, after a point just died completely13:15
st4alucklukjad86: I'll go to see soon, that it was doing13:16
lukjad86Yeah, looks like hardware failure13:16
st4alucklukjad86: 78 Euro13:16
lukjad86ouch13:17
st4aluckhahaha13:17
lukjad86That's expensive for a router. I wouldn't spend that much unless it was for a company13:18
lukjad86Or I had a serious network going on at home13:18
st4alucklukjad86: do you remember my other problem with the battery power on my laptop?13:18
