tick-tock | hi all | 08:37 |
tick-tock | what is the current status of the ubuntu installer and UEFI? | 08:38 |
tick-tock | does the installer correctly handle and set up the boot/efi partition in non-mac UEFI machines (like HP elitebooks)? | 08:38 |
xivulon | ev ^^ | 10:15 |
ev | xivulon: replied | 10:15 |
ev | superm1: thanks for the fixes | 10:21 |
xivulon | hmm I've asked people to use the latest exe, it seems strange they still end up with an old ISO, is there a way to check the ISO build from the logs? | 10:46 |
xivulon | also not sure why there is no failure-command.sh | 10:47 |
xivulon | davmor2 can you please have a go at testing? | 11:46 |
davmor2 | xivulon: I can try and get some in today I need to do a couple of thins first. Am I testing anything in particular or just wubi in general? | 11:50 |
xivulon | davmor2 see http://ubuntuforums.org/showpost.php?p=9037049&postcount=12, it should be fixed, but there were multiple reports | 11:53 |
davmor2 | xivulon: yeah I'll have a look might not be till after lunch though | 11:58 |
cjwatson | hmm, psusi's parted patch breaks normal automatic partitioning | 12:41 |
* cjwatson digs | 12:41 | |

CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: Add LTS designator to the relevant distributions per | 14:13 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LucidLynx/ReleaseManifest. The release is | 14:13 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: 10.04 LTS, not 10.04. | 14:13 |
CIA-3 | base-installer: cjwatson * r397 ubuntu/ (debian/changelog library.sh): Handle armel metapackages in ordering hack (imx51, dove, and omap). | 14:54 |
davmor2 | xivulon: no installer icon here | 15:06 |
xivulon | davmor2, does the installation complete as expected? | 15:12 |
davmor2 | xivulon: Yes | 15:13 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: evand * r254 ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/ (4 files in 3 dirs): | 15:15 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: Reduce the slideshow by 49px from the top of the window, so that it fits | 15:15 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: better on netbook (1024x600) screens. | 15:15 |
davmor2 | ev: Like the new slides by the way very nice | 15:16 |
ev | davmor2: that's mostly michaelforrest and Dylan McCall. I'm just the middleman :) | 15:17 |
ev | thanks though | 15:17 |
davmor2 | ev: Oh well pass it on, Nice! | 15:18 |
ev | will do! | 15:18 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: evand * r4006 ubiquity/ (debian/changelog ubiquity/frontend/gtk_ui.py): | 15:19 |

CIA-3 | ubiquity: evand * r4008 ubiquity/ (debian/changelog gui/gtk/install_window.ui): | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: * Give the installer window a slightly larger bottom edge to make the | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: grey border look less ugly. | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: * Connect the new installer window's skip button to the appropriate | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: function. | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: * Slighly tweak the layout so the progress widgets are more centered | 16:20 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: in their frame. | 16:20 |
ev | ^ that doesn't quit fit on a 1024x600 GNOME session, but now the only thing cut off by the bottom panel is padding. | 16:21 |
superm1 | i wasn't sure exactly what to attribute it to, but the colors in the new installer window with only mode are different with running in gnome | 16:21 |
ev | yeah, I'm still trying to figure out why that's happening | 16:22 |
ev | I think we're actually missing something in ubiquity-dm | 16:22 |
ev | as even using get_style instead of rc_get_style results in the same inability to set the correct colors | 16:22 |
ev | but yeah, I should really be fixing high priority bugs instead of UI nits | 16:23 |
ev | so back to that | 16:24 |
davmor2 | ev: is there a mac way to create a usb ubuntu stick yet or is that the next project? | 18:21 |

bipolar | I'm trying to get a usable preseed file out of debconf-get-selections but it doesn't include the partitioning setup. Specifically I installed using full disk encryption and I'm trying to preseed it. there is no reference to partman in the output of debconf-get-selections even with the --installer option. Do I have to get that info somewhere else? | 20:41 |
cjwatson | bipolar: debconf-get-selections isn't really usable for preseeding the installer, sorry (we'd hoped it might be at one point, but it really isn't). Use the installation guide instead. | 21:10 |
bipolar | cjwatson: Unfortunately I havn't been able to find anything at all regarding preseeding full disk encryption in the installation guide. Google has not been very helpful either. :\ | 21:15 |
bipolar | I'm also worried that the lucid installer is in a bad state at the moment and maybe thats why it's failing. I'm going to try with 9.10. | 21:18 |
cjwatson | bipolar: I happen to have spent about half of today debugging encryption handling in lucid | 21:23 |
cjwatson | bipolar: are you by any chance running across bug 539324? | 21:24 |
ubottu | Launchpad bug 539324 in debian-installer "Setting up swap fails when setting lvm+encryption" [High,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/539324 | 21:24 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu: evand * r255 ubiquity-slideshow-ubuntu/ (2 files in 2 dirs): New Ubuntu One icon. | 21:24 |
cjwatson | bipolar: it's in the installation guide, but only very tersely | 21:24 |
cjwatson | you can either set: | 21:24 |
cjwatson | d-i partman-auto/init_automatically_partition select some_device_crypto | 21:24 |
cjwatson | or: | 21:24 |
cjwatson | d-i partman-auto/disk string /dev/sda | 21:24 |
cjwatson | d-i partman-auto/method string crypto | 21:25 |
bipolar | cjwatson: let me check that bug out. | 21:25 |
bipolar | cjwatson: yes. I have seen that bug when I tried to install off of cd. | 21:25 |
bipolar | cjwatson: I had to remove the swap partition manualy to get it to continue. | 21:25 |
bipolar | I'm currently installing via PXE. the cd install was just to make sure it wasn't a problem with the daily packges. | 21:26 |
cjwatson | I think I've worked out the root problem, but only in about the last ten minutes | 21:26 |
bipolar | cjwatson: I've tried those options in the past. I couldn't get the installer to get past a 'missing root partition' error. I thought I was doing something wrong. | 21:28 |
bipolar | I'll try it again. Maybe the swap partition issue is related | 21:28 |
cjwatson | certainly try with 9.10 rather than current lucid | 21:29 |
cjwatson | though I hope to have this fixed in beta-2 | 21:30 |
bipolar | ok. | 21:30 |
bipolar | I'll do that. thank you. | 21:30 |
cjwatson | if you get "No root file system" with 9.10, let me know and I can try to debug that | 21:30 |
bipolar | my pxe install uses an apt-cacher-ng repo. so as soon as a fixed package is out, I can use it. | 21:30 |
bipolar | ok | 21:31 |
cjwatson | hah! | 21:34 |
* cjwatson is triumphant | 21:34
bipolar | /cheer | 21:34 |
* bipolar trys to figure out how to preseed the encryption passphrase | 21:34
bipolar | partman-crypto/passphrase perhaps | 21:35 |
cjwatson | there's a bug about that, it's not preseedable, sorry | 21:36 |
cjwatson | I'm going to try to fix that for lucid though | 21:36 |
bipolar | ah. ok. | 21:36 |
bipolar | fixing that would be awesome | 21:37 |
bipolar | gotta automate as much as possible for my helper monkeys | 21:37 |
bipolar | let me know if you need someone to test anything lucid related. | 21:37 |
cjwatson | bug 546405 | 21:38 |
ubottu | Launchpad bug 546405 in partman-crypto "Can't preseed encryption passphrase" [Medium,Triaged] https://launchpad.net/bugs/546405 | 21:38 |
bipolar | cjwatson: it seems to be working on 9.10. I guess I should have tried that a long time ago. :p | 21:38 |
cjwatson | heh, ok | 21:39 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: cjwatson * r200 ubuntu/ (debian/changelog parted_server.c): (log message trimmed) | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: parted 2.1 changed the semantics of ped_disk_clobber: it now zeroes out | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: the first few and last few sectors of the disk, regardless of whether | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: there appears to be a valid partition table on it. Unfortunately, this | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: means that creating a filesystem on a whole disk device and then calling | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: ped_disk_commit_to_dev zeroes the filesystem header we just created. To | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: avoid this, call ped_disk_commit_to_dev only if the partition doesn't | 21:43 |
CIA-3 | ubiquity: superm1 * r4009 ubiquity/ (debian/changelog scripts/install.py): Fix installation of zh_CN and zh_TW language packs. | 21:55 |
CIA-3 | partman-base: cjwatson * r201 ubuntu/debian/changelog: releasing version 139ubuntu3 | 21:58 |
bipolar | cjwatson: ok. I just booted into 9.10 after installing. the encryption preseeding worked. Now I feel silly. | 22:04 |
cjwatson | that's curious | 22:04 |
cjwatson | oh, you don't mean the encryption passphrase :) | 22:04 |
cjwatson | right | 22:04 |
bipolar | cjwatson: right | 22:05 |
bipolar | the passphrase cannot currently be preseeded, as you said. but the preseeding of the partitioning works in 9.10. | 22:05 |
bipolar | cjwatson: did you just push out a fix for the swap issue or was that something else? | 22:06 |
cjwatson | yes, I did | 22:06 |
cjwatson | it'll take a couple of hours to build and publish | 22:06 |
bipolar | cjwatson: yeah. it's 5pm here anyway. I'll try it tomorrow and let you know :) | 22:07 |
cjwatson | thanks | 22:07 |
cjwatson | or attach it to a bug if that's appropriate | 22:21 |
