[02:32] There really needs to be an FAQ called "You don't know Jack" [02:34] claybustr: lol [02:34] how is it going? [02:34] you having JACK woes? [02:36] I have ubuntu studio karmic installed. I have jackd running, I have pulse dumping sounds to jack. I have hydrogen running. I have the meter bridge showing activity from both pulse (Rhythmbox) and hydrogen. I can run envy24ctl and see activity on HW1/2 inputs from my mixing board (but no output) - I'm 80% certain this is a patch bay problem, but I can't get anything in or out of the card - well into the card but it stops there. [02:37] hmmm [02:37] you got a maudio delta? [02:37] 1010lt or something? [02:38] did you choosed the outputs? [02:38] or the fullduplex? [02:38] hey rlameiro :) [02:38] maudio 2496 envy24ctl shows activity on inputs (so alsa seems to be working) but none of my apps have seen it [02:38] fullduplex [02:38] holstein: ma man! :D [02:38] hehe [02:38] * holstein high-fives rlameiro [02:39] claybustr: can you start over [02:39] a little more simple [02:39] * rlameiro low-fives holstein [02:39] maybe just jackd [02:39] re-expain or back up to setp one [02:39] and a softsynth or something [02:39] get pulse out of the mix for a minute [02:39] claybustr: have you ever heard anything running jack? [02:39] yeap.... good idea pulse.... is kinda.... welll [02:40] negatory [02:40] hmmm [02:40] is jack runnig? [02:40] I think he's deaf-mute [02:40] yes, jack is running, rolling [02:40] claybustr: you start jack with qjackctl? [02:40] yes [02:41] no errors then... [02:41] just rolling, and no sound.. [02:41] occasional xrun but no [02:41] yes [02:41] go to the setup section [02:41] showing load levels aroudn 14-20% [02:41] have you ever heard anything from the card? [02:41] no [02:41] hmmm [02:42] hold on a sec - lemme try something REALLY stupid [02:42] go to setup and tel us the right column choices that you have [02:42] claybustr: have you tried the other outputs? [02:42] LIKE 3/4 or whatever there called [02:42] yeap that could be it [02:43] ok - its not a bad cable. now back to asking the collective about my jack woes [02:43] claybustr: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/1333955/jackd.png [02:44] open the connections and oppen al the connections and take a screnshot [02:44] claybustr: try all the outputs too, just for S&G's [02:44] all four [02:45] it has four right? [02:45] holstein: could it be because of monitoring? [02:45] maybe im looking at a bad site [02:45] rlameiro: i suppose [02:45] but it shouldnt matter when playing a softsynth [02:46] yeap... [02:46] weard [02:46] i never used the envy so i cant help in there [02:46] check if al volumes are up etc.. [02:46] claybustr: when you look at that 'audio' tab [02:46] like the one from rlameiro 's screenshot [02:47] do you have some connections made? [02:47] rlameiro: what is your card? [02:47] with 4 outs? [02:47] intels.... [02:47] onboard laptop [02:48] interesting [02:48] do all 4 work? [02:48] i have two earphone outs :D [02:48] OH [02:48] cool [02:48] yeap [02:48] 8 outs, I hooked them all up [02:48] handy [02:48] i had a problem with it, it didnt play the pd patch, i found i had my earphones on the second plug, lol [02:48] but i use tha FA-101 [02:49] claybustr: i would open one thing [02:49] like hydrogen [02:49] and check the routing [02:49] LIKE [02:49] fire up jack [02:49] then hydrogen [02:49] then you should see hydrogen in the connections area [02:50] and make sure the output from hydrogen goes to the playback on your card [02:50] im also not too sure what eny24 looks like [02:50] OR how much of it takes over, if any [02:51] got an error on startup even though it was just running - could not connect to jack server as client [02:51] *the routing [02:51] claybustr: COOL [02:51] so jack wasnt tunnig,, [02:51] now were getting somewhere [02:51] running [02:51] no it was, rolling, and it was giving loads and occasion xruns [02:52] weird [02:52] rlameiro: i wish pipeman was around [02:52] hes got a 1010lt [02:52] and uses envy24 [02:52] yeahhh [02:53] brb going to use BRB to reset jack [02:55] holstein: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/UbuntuStudio/ControlsRedesign [02:55] what do you think of it? [02:55] are you running lucid yet? [02:55] studio-wise? [02:55] dualbooting [02:55] :D [02:55] karmic-lucid [02:56] whenever im about to upgrade [02:56] i'll hit an issue on the EEE [02:56] and i'll change my mind [02:56] i am going to test the firewire and jack and install a rt kernel from the ppas to test it audio wise [02:57] i got a spare box [02:57] i just havnet taken the time to config it [02:57] i got to change the HD and put in a firewire card [02:58] holstein: i am testing it on my 2nd hadd 7200 rpm for audio [02:58] i will redesign my entire laptop functionality [02:58] I will dualboot it with vanilla ubuntu and ubuntustudio [02:59] i like to do it that way too [02:59] i will try to use a comon /home [02:59] i dont know if it is a good idea... [02:59] i know you shouldnt need to [02:59] * rlameiro thinks common /home will have a lot of problems :D [02:59] hmmm [02:59] back - and jack restarted right away when I started up qjack, running again [03:00] i usually just keep separate installs [03:00] OR boxes [03:00] claybustr: some errors on the message box? [03:00] hmmm [03:00] no errors [03:00] I just have my lap, the boxes are for other familiar uses [03:00] SO you have just jack running? [03:00] yup - solo jack [03:00] fire up hydrogen [03:00] and lets try and track its path down [03:01] and make sure its routed all the way to the outputs [03:01] and go from there [03:01] holstein: Pipeman is on OSM [03:01] OH [03:01] claybustr: if you want [03:01] --- /j #opensourcemusicians [03:01] pipemanmusic has a delta 1010lt [03:01] ok - hydrogen running and the load shot up from 4 up to 12 and then settled back down a bit [03:02] normal [03:02] claybustr: thats cool [03:02] go ahead and start one of the demos in hydrogen or something [03:02] and then go over the the connections area of qjackctl [04:18] hello. Is the Nvidia driver 1.80 (or 195.36.15) supported by karmc? [04:20] if it is suported on the normal ubuntu, it will on ubuntustudio [04:22] i dunno if it is, im just askin, cause my ati card in my laptop is not supported by jaunty. And i dont want to touch my studio on the pc. But i will try with a live dvd. [04:25] when there is one ^^ [04:25] hey niwo [04:25] yup [04:25] i was going to say [04:25] the ubuntustudio DVD is not live [04:25] BUT you can try a live CD [04:25] just vanilla [04:25] and like rlameiro said [04:25] if its supported in ubuntu, ubuntustudio will be the same [04:25] so what i use a ubuntu karmic cd. I know ubuntu studio is just a bunch of packages ;) [04:26] basically yes [04:26] the power of deb packaging :D [04:26] w00t [04:26] well [04:26] gotta go [04:27] cya all [04:27] yes. [04:27] bye [04:27] laterz rlameiro === tarzeau_ is now known as tarzeau [09:44] hello, i am confused. I can hear my guitar through my sound card, but I can't seem to record it [10:03] ok [10:03] you set the recording input as the hole you're plugging your guitar into? [10:03] well, in audacity there's only one alsa option for input [10:04] i have the box checked in the alsa mixer for the correct input capture [10:04] and the volumes turned up for recording? [10:04] and not muted? [10:04] yes [10:04] dunno [10:04] i'd have to fire my studio up [10:04] and i need to recreate a partition table for that [10:04] so it'll be a minute, better of asking someone else? ;( [10:04] try #ubuntu [10:05] i posted in both [10:05] i'm thinking this is going to be a stubborn issue [10:06] considering that I had to reinstall ubuntu from scratch a couple weeks ago to get sound at all [22:26] has anyone here had luck getting jack and pulse to work together in 10.4 beta? [22:26] programs start dying all over on me when I start jack in 10.4
