cliffhangerDoes any1 know if I can upgrade a 32bit version of ubuntu 2 64bit without doing a fresh install? (looking 4 a way so that I don't lose my programs)21:16
jpdscliffhanger: I think it is possible, but I won't bother with the effort.21:18
jpdscliffhanger: What are your programs? Packages you've installed?21:21
cliffhangerI've installed a lot of packages... so i wont detail, basically had to waste a week getting the right packages to install on my machine to get audio and wlan, etc... some1 recommended I use dpkg or Synaptic and then later download them on another computer. how does this work?21:28
cliffhangeris there any way to sort of make a list of all my installed packages so that it can download them all in another computer, or something similar?? This might help me...21:31
jpdscliffhanger: "dpkg --get-selections" does exactly that.21:32
jpdsWell, that will output all the packages you have installed.21:32
cliffhangerThanks that's great, but how do I later download them?21:33
jpdsTo reinstall all the packages in that list, you just have to run: dpkg --selections < fileyousavedthelisttoo.txt and then run: sudo apt-get dselect-upgrade21:33
jpdscliffhanger: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReinstallingSamePackages21:35
cliffhangerThanks jpds, I'll go try it right now.21:35
jpds(You will need a net connection to redownload the packages).21:35
cliffhangerjpds: There's so many that it won't display the whole list, it dosnt fit in the terminal apparently, it just shows from the M down to the Z packages.21:38
jpdscliffhanger: Try: dpkg --get-selections > installed_packages.txt21:40
jpdscliffhanger: That will put the output into a new file: installed_packages.txt21:40
cliffhangerIt worked! Thanks Again!21:41
