[22:15] hmm, is beagleboard an a9? [22:18] oh, I see... [22:18] that's multi-core. [22:18] beagle is omap 3xxx [22:18] cortex a8 [22:19] ah. [22:22] DanaG: omap4 is cortex-a9 dual core [22:22] Is that what the beagle-XM will have? [22:22] no [22:23] DanaG: detail info on the new features of the xm - http://groups.google.com/group/beagleboard/browse_thread/thread/6604a0debf003c8a [22:24] I do find it a bit of a bummer that they didn't expose the USB+LAN chip's 15 GPIOs. [22:24] DanaG: why? [22:24] I heard arm cpus are missing a smp unit, what does that mean in consequence? [22:24] It would be nifty to be able to use an expansion board and still have a bunch of gpios. [22:26] DanaG: but you have a bunch of gpios already [22:26] Muxed with other stuff, though. [22:27] videorechner: the cores act independently in many way [22:27] DanaG: can you give me an example of a case condition? [22:27] I was more just theorizing, actually. [22:27] Right now I don't use GPIOs at all, anyway/ =รพ [22:28] prpplague but ubuntu can handle them like any other dual core? [22:28] hmm, what boards actually do have the dual-core ARM? [22:28] DanaG: it would be much much easier for you to use a i2c gpio expander than try to use the gpios on the lan9514 [22:28] Looks like XM will still be single-core. [22:28] videorechner: i do not know currenty [22:29] DanaG: correct [22:29] I'm interested in the Marvell 1.2GHz ARM stuff, also. [22:30] http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/02/17/texas-instruments-omap4-blaze-twin-screens-android-and-a-projector/ [22:30] thats dual core [22:30] and a very sweet bit of kit [22:31] XorA|gone: toooooooo bulky, hehe [22:31] heh, I was pondering replacing the sucky samsung netbook with a better HP one (5102) or that Onkyo DX dual-1366x768 thingy... then I tried an SSD and realized that'd be more useful. [22:32] prpplague: well your the board dude, shrink it to the size of my Touch HD2 :-D [22:32] XorA|gone: hehe [22:33] Who had sufficient lack of decency enough to make a bezel for that abomination. [22:33] ??? [22:35] It goes without saying you can make cases for stuff. What idea are they pitching, "ready for market"? "Dual vertical span with separation in between on a phone is a good idea"? [22:36] comradekingu: for which item are you refering? [22:36] http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/02/17/texas-instruments-omap4-blaze-twin-screens-android-and-a-projector/0 [22:36] http://www.electricpig.co.uk/2010/02/17/texas-instruments-omap4-blaze-twin-screens-android-and-a-projector/ [22:36] comradekingu: ahh right, there were very specific reasons for the size and shape [22:37] prpplague: Im guessing the gold trim has its reasons too, but come on... [22:38] comradekingu: i think that was just for show, all the ones i've seen are all black [22:39] prpplague: Actually it was the colour that made me want to keep my eyes closed. [22:40] comradekingu: if you could get your ultimate OMAP4 board what would be? [22:41] Pandora? [22:41] no, thats OMAP3 [22:42] comradekingu: i mean feature wise, is a case really that important ? [22:43] http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/0/0f/Wonderswan_color-JD.jpg [22:45] Feature wise id like displayport, other than that just the usual stuff [22:46] comradekingu: what type? [22:47] My ultimate ARM device of any sort: take HP Mini 5102, stick a 1.2GHz ARM in it, and have open graphics (or at least closed graphics with build scripts that don't suck). [22:47] "suck" being "tries to 'make clean' on a target workdir that doesn't exist". [22:47] DanaG: hehe, trustme i know all too well [22:47] common them here is having a case [22:47] prpplague: From what i remember the only useful feature of DP 1.2 was daisy-chaining displays [22:48] comradekingu: hdmi? [22:48] The PowerVR stuff makes NV installer look "wonderful", in comparison. [22:48] comradekingu: dvi-i ? [22:50] prpplague: Rather save the cash for something cool [22:50] comradekingu: ?? [22:50] Ultimate has to be unencumbered by lousy standards imo [22:51] comradekingu: which standard is lousy? [22:51] hdmi [22:51] comradekingu: interesting [22:53] Someone over at the hdmi consortium envisioned i would want to buy a 250$ soundcard to send undecoded audio to a reciever, a task which can only be done by one special release of a proprietary app on a proprietary system. [22:54] They can keep all their 8CH audio for all i care, i wont support it. [22:54] I'd rather just have a good sound card in the PC. [22:55] And a decent set of speakers (my Logitech Z-5300 are decent, once you turn the sub on its side so the port sits against carpet). [23:47] plars, http://people.canonical.com/~ogra/linux-image-2.6.33-500-omap_2.6.33-500.4_armel.deb that has the USB patch from the bug, please test and comment on the bug
