[01:09] hi all, bug 557459 was previously fixed under bug 501877 but now occurs again would that be considered a duplicate? [01:09] Launchpad bug 557459 in empathy (Ubuntu) "Jabber account: can't see contacts (affects: 1) (heat: 6)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/557459 [01:09] Launchpad bug 501877 in empathy (Ubuntu) "Ubuntu.LucidLynx.x64::Empathy; Contact List shows none independent of settings (affects: 3)" [Low,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/501877 [01:11] mrburns, unless you're absolutely sure that it's the same bug and has regressed, then you probably should leave them separate for now [01:12] ok [01:21] chrisccoulson: would i set the bug to incomplete and have it handled upstream? === cyphermox_ is now known as cyphermox [09:01] hi [09:02] I need to file a bug about files being truncated during and hard lock [09:02] which package should I use ? [09:33] joaopinto: start with the program whose files are being truncated; its likely doing something unsafe [09:35] ok, that would be dpkg [12:33] [GNOME] What program package provides the dialog System > Preferences > »Personal File Sharing« > »Personal File Sharing Preferences«? [12:57] bullgard, gnome-user-share [12:58] thekorn: Thank you very much for your help. [12:58] sehr gerne [13:06] Afternoon all! [13:23] Talkative today :P [14:00] I had my second random freeze today [14:00] any guideliens for reporting ? [14:01] I think one ideally drops into Sysreq mode and gathers some information to debug the hang. That said, I've never quite figured out how to do that successfully. [14:06] neither did I [14:07] I tried some sysrq combinations on saw on some page [14:07] nothing happened [14:07] I hate hard locks [14:07] Indeed. [14:07] for system locks linux looks like windows :P clueless [14:08] let me try the key combination now [14:15] ok, sysrq keys do work on regular conditions, except for the B which was supposed to boot and didn't [14:15] so on my case not event sysrq works [14:15] does that indicate a kernel hang ? [14:20] hum, let's try to get some luck with sysrqd [14:22] hi folks. I filed a bug that has been mark a duplicate. However, when I browse to the duplicate I get "Not allowed here. Sorry, you don't have permission to access this page." bug #533095 [14:22] pjbroad: Bug 533095 on http://launchpad.net/bugs/533095 is private [14:22] ah, that's the reason:) [14:23] grr, sysrqd does not run [14:23] and doesn't provide a man page :\ [14:31] My problem with the private parent of a duplicate appears related to Bug #179587. It does seam a little silly to use a private bug as parent for duplicate. [14:31] Launchpad bug 179587 in malone ""Sorry, you don't have permission to access this" bug report -- well, why not? (affects: 1) (heat: 1)" [Undecided,Confirmed] https://launchpad.net/bugs/179587 [14:33] hi, just installed Xubuntu Lucid beta 2 on an old PC, everything works fine, including sound but I can't play audio CDs: Rhythmbox doesn't see the CD at all, while Exaile sees the CD, identifies the tracks but can't play any of them. Any idea where I should look to debug that one? [14:36] And the same CD works on same hardware in Xubuntu Karmic. [14:45] pjbroad: bug 533095 should be ok now, I've unmarked it as private [14:46] Launchpad bug 533095 in zim (Ubuntu) "zim crashed with AttributeError in __getattr__() (affects: 3) (dups: 2) (heat: 162)" [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/533095 [14:46] sorry - bad english... I've set it to public now ;) [15:13] '~$ ubuntu-bug firefox' opens Apport. When pressing »Send Report«, the dialog window disappears after one second. How can I report a bug on Chatzilla Firefox plugin? [15:19] bullgard: You could try using "apport-cli --package=### --file-bug" instead? [15:20] bullgard: package name mozilla-chatzilla, likely. [15:22] arand: No. mozilla-chatzilla is the dummy upgrade package for the _SeaMonkey_ Chatzilla IRC client. [15:22] Ah, right... [15:24] bullgard: Well if it's the extension, then you're possibly better of reporting it directly upstream, since it doesn't have an ubuntu package? [15:25] Apparently it does not have an Ubuntu package. [15:34] hello [15:35] to whom can i talk about some bugs [15:35] ? [15:36] just say your problem and someone will respond asap [15:38] the second beta of the 10.04 release is giving me issues with the ati driver and I always have to login in low resolution, thus not enabling me to use the desktop special effect [15:38] just to let you know i had no troubles of this sort when i was using ubuntu 9.10 [15:39] did you check if it's required to install special driver? [15:39] did you check with hardware driver in system? [15:39] I activated the driver for ati and when i restarted it was giving me that problem [15:39] what do you mean exactally? [15:41] nothing as you activated the propirty drivers [15:41] did you try in ubuntu+1 [15:42] the first beta ? [15:42] a channel for beta tester [15:42] #ubuntu+1 [15:42] oh ok I'll check there then [15:42] thanks for all your help [15:42] i really appreciate [15:42] np [15:42] I didn't help much :) [15:45] is there someone I can talk to because knowone appears to be answering [15:45] ? [15:50] Sabre-Edge: remember this is a weekend... ask, and wait [15:50] Sabre-Edge: but, things you can do: (1) search launchpad for ATI-related bugs on Lucid; [15:51] (2) open a new bug: ubuntu-bug xorg [15:51] thanks [15:51] I'm sorry [15:52] Sabre-Edge: I had a similar problem during one of the alphas. did you run "sudo aticonfig --initial" after installing the proprietory driver? [15:53] no i did't, what is that supposed to do ? [15:54] it is needed to "intialise" the driver (not sure if that is the correct terminology) [15:55] Sabre-Edge: I'll give you instuctions in pm if you want so we don't clutter up the chan [15:56] mmm i see i'll give it a try, thanks [15:56] ok kermiac [16:33] @kermiac thanks for setting bug #533095 public [16:34] np pjbroad :) [16:38] In Lucid, apport prompted me to file a bug with this summary: "gnome-settings-daemon crashed with SIGSEGV" [16:38] Now that I'm about to file it, there's other bugs with same title. How do I know if it's a duplicate? [16:38] Is it safe to file another bug and let them decide if it's duplicate? [16:44] dragon: There are some mechanisms that automatically can determine it based on the uploded crash logs, otherwise, you could file it, examine it yourself, and mark it as duplicate if they do correlate... [16:45] dragon: also check out the other bug in full. [16:46] arand: other bug has been triaged, and has 8 duplicates [16:49] I decided not to file this one. I'm sure I'll get more opportunities. [16:49] Thanks. === yofel_ is now known as yofel [18:45] I catn enabled desktop effects using nvidia and i want to report this bug [18:46] what is the best way to do so? [19:00] JoshuaL: are you using Nouveau, or the closed source drivers? [19:00] closed source [19:00] the desktop effects thing just freezes.. [19:00] are you sure compiz wasn't removed yesterday? [19:00] removed? [19:01] removed? [19:01] on his system? [19:01] or from the repositories? [19:01] we had a metacity / compiz dep conflict yesterday [19:01] from the system [19:01] ah [19:01] ah [19:01] let me check [19:01] The following NEW packages will be installed: [19:01] compiz compiz-gnome{a} [19:01] so i assume it got removed [19:02] JoshuaL: assuming that you're using gnome actually [19:02] yoasif, i am :) [19:02] this /always/ happens [19:03] yoasif: sorry :D [19:03] hehe [19:04] installed compiz [19:04] probably i need a reboot because some stuff like alt+tab doesnt work [19:04] re-login should be enough I think [19:05] k let me try [19:05] brb [19:06] thanks, it works like a charm! :D [19:06] ok, the fact that the settings window just freezes instead of giving an error might be a bug though... [19:07] yofel, hmm true, how would i report such bug? [19:08] not sure, I don't know what the properties window belongs to [19:08] gnome-utils [19:09] qense, ty [19:40] I've got a problem upgrading to ubuntu 10.04 beta2 [19:41] The upgrade is stuck at Installing the upgrades, and below the progress bar says Preparing memtest86+ [19:41] and in the Terminal its saying Found linux image: /boot/vmlinuz.... over and over again [19:42] And I think its the image that won't boot [19:44] can I just remove that image? [19:45] Micc_: I'd advise you to ask that question in #ubuntu+1 as that is the support channel for testing releases and this is not. [19:45] ok. === radoe_ is now known as radoe [19:49] Ohw and I have another bug. I can't suspend my laptop. Screen goes black and furthermore nothing happens (fan stays on, lights stay on, wont respond to any keys and have to shutdown by force (even the mafic reisub doesnt work)) [21:46] Hi there [21:47] I guess I've found a bug but I can't determine wich package it affects. May someone help me? [21:53] !ask | bodom [21:53] bodom: Please don't ask to ask a question, simply ask the question (all on ONE line and in the channel, so that others can read and follow it easily). If anyone knows the answer they will most likely reply. :-) [21:55] The suspected bug is: my IPv6 connection doesn't work after boot. When I start tcpdump to investigate the problem, even if I terminate it later, the IPv6 connection starts working and continue working. [22:12] hey. I'm back :) [22:14] bodom: sounds odd. could be that enabling promiscuous mode on your interface lets the kernel "see" the router advertisements [22:14] but assuming the router advertisements aren't broken in some way it would suggest a bug in your network card driver or the ipv6 stack... [22:15] David-T: but when I kill tcpdump it doesn't disable promiscuous mode? [22:15] it would, but once your computer sees the router advertisement it would configure itself and start working [22:15] i'm assuming that before, when it isn't working, your interface doesn't have an ipv6 address. [22:16] otherwise something else must be going on [22:17] David-T: an ipv6 address is statically assigned in /etc/network/interfaces [22:17] oh. [22:18] so what are you trying to connect to? [22:18] just ping6 ipv6.google.com [22:19] I can see that google receives my packets and echoes. Router receives echo on ext iface and retrasmits it on lan iface to my ubuntu client [22:20] ok, I was assuming you were using radvd. in that case i'm not sure what's going on
