VinceNEvening folks, I was wondering if this was the correct place to ask a question about a specific Kernel bug?20:33
crimsunit could be, just ask.20:33
VinceNI'm concerned about a long standing bug the came up with the 9.10 release documented on launchpad under Bug #451337.  It's a cooling fan issue with an Acer Aspire series laptop.  I've been stuck using a patched -14 kernel and I keep hearing a fix is coming but nothing ever seems to materialize in the newer releases.  I'm very concerned about what those who are affected are going to do when Lucid comes out.20:35

persiaVinceN: Do you know if anyone affected has tested a prerelease kernel?20:38
VinceNI have contacted the Bug Maintainer, Andy Whitcroft and was advised someone had closed the bug out, it got reopened and he was going to try to find someone to work on it.  Never heard anything back.  I offered to help since I have one of the affected machines.  I'd work on it myself but i'm afraid this kind of thing is way way way way above my knowlage level.20:38
VinceNpersia, Not to my knowladge, and i've been afraid to upgrade myself because my 9.10 release was unusable until the -14 patch came out.  It isn't availible in Mr Whitcrofts PPA anymore so I couln't go back if it breaks.20:39
persiaVinceN: If you're affected, you might want to try downloading an lucid-beta2 ISO, and creating a bootable USB, and booting off that to see if you can replicate: this would let you leave your base system unaffected.20:40
VinceNI'd be happy to do that to see if the newer version is affected.  If it is what can I do to get this in the hands of someone who can fix it and how can I help them?20:41
persiaThat's harder to answer.  I know the lucid kernel is now hard-frozen, but you might have something eligible for SRU.20:43
persiaBut the best way is usually to communicate your testing experience with each available kernel to the bug.20:44
VinceNOk, I will work on downloading that and testing and get back to you on that.20:44
crimsunat this point you're probably better off using the latest daily-live iso.20:44
crimsunjust boot from it to test, etc.20:44
persiaOh, that's right.  There was a new kernel post-beta2.  Yeah, sorry.20:44
VinceNcrimsun : Where would be the best place to get that?20:45
crimsuncdimage.ubuntu.com/daily-live/current/20:45
crimsun(I think)20:45
VinceNGot it thanks20:46
VinceNI'll download that and try it out.  I would be so happy if we could get this fixed if it isn't already.  It's been a major pain in the neck since 9.10 came out.  Previous versions of Ubuntu worked great under this platform aside from some PulseAudio issues.  I'd be estatic if Lucid could be the perfect fit.20:48
VinceNThank's agian guy's, I'll let you know20:53
junminhello, please anybody could paste me the default ubuntu kernel config file? thanks23:16
persiajunmin: If you're running Ubuntu, it's in /boot/config-`uname -r`23:18
junminpersia: i am not running ubuntu :s23:18
persiahttp://paste.ubuntu.com/417568/ is my config : might be slightly different for different flavours/architectures23:19
junminpersia: thanks let me see23:20
