kmanUbuntu update issue.  I had ubunto 8.?  installed and running.  Upgraded to 8.10(?) OK and then decided to upgrade to 9.04.  It hung and now when I start up I can login but then just get a blank screen. Any suggestions?03:03
kmanOK another question.  Control panels.  I have played around with C-Panel and was wanting something like that for Ubuntu.  I could see reference to a Control Panel for Ubunto v 9.04 and that's why I had been upgrading.  I was surprised that KLOXO was not supported.  It looks really good and very much like C-Panel.  It says it is only supported on Centos.03:12
kmanIs there a  more active IRC for Ubuntu out there?03:13

SaudrapsmannHi, I have a question. I have my notification area in my top panel, but the notifications end up an inch below the panel like in this picture: http://i41.tinypic.com/ngcbon.png08:07
SaudrapsmannI can't seem to find any way to change the location of where they go vertically08:07
SaudrapsmannCan anyone help me?08:07

jfoozie420im in for a q!!09:59
Akoshi jfoozie420, please, go ahead (:10:00
jfoozie420Akos: anyways how is it that im downloading things with ubuntu and its alot slower that when i download anything else from microsoft's os??10:00
jfoozie420is it because im using the synaptic servers?? does that have to do with it??10:01
Akosjfoozie420: i have no clue, you are downloading the same things?10:01
jfoozie420yeah, like when im download i long ass .ppt presentation it downloads it at 45 kb/s with ubuntu10:02
jfoozie420and 1.6 mb/s with microsoft10:02
jfoozie420(without a d-manager)10:02
Akoswell, i didn't notice anything like that, if you have a router, make sure everything is setup correctly10:03
Akosthe synaptic downloads depend on the server you are downloading from10:03
jfoozie420can you configure automatic server lists that you download from instead of using one from default?? cause i dont want to keep scrolling though find one everytime10:04
jfoozie420scrolling and finding the servers everytime""10:05
jfoozie420is there a download manager that's stable and compatible with ubuntu?? cause i haven't seen anything that's up to par with internet download manager (cause its only available for microsoft)10:06
jfoozie420cause i hate just straight downloading with microsoft when you have a good chance of getting a virus lol....10:13
jfoozie420no one up for bat?10:14

LzrdKingmy new server works so good now, using just openbox without gnome and nfs instead of samba i can now stream HD wirelessly in Boxee!15:31
swoodyLzrdKing: that's very good to hear :)15:32
LzrdKingyeah, but when i reboot i have to play with the sound to get it to come back through the speakers plugged into the headphone jack instead of the internal speaker15:33
LzrdKingthe only other thing i want to do is have it log into xdm automatically; i was able to use login -f to get it to log in on tty1, but X runs on tty715:34

Phreasay, is running a wubi install SO different that the ATI drivers+management stuff are limited? I couldnt find the dualscreen option [B2] and I'm planning to switch this box fully over to lucid16:51
phillwPhrea: wubi is quite different from dual booting, with wubi the ubuntu 'lives' inside windows, albeit on a 'virtual' area, with dual booting they bot have their own, seperate areas, only sharing grub for booting.16:54
phillwbot=both16:54
PhreaI understand :)16:54
Phreabut does a wubi install limit stuff like drivers and monitor settings?16:54
phillwdual booting is a good way to start, not all of the things available to a full ubuntu are available to wubi from reading peoples experiences16:55
Phreathis will be the last box I'm converting16:56
Phrea:)16:56
PhreaI just did the wubi install because I was curious as to how it worked :)16:56
LzrdKingPhrea: wubi does not limit wnaything except hibernation16:56
Phreaand then I noticed the limited ati options16:56
phillwthe two systems live very happily side by side, and you will have fewer headaches16:56
Phreaoh...16:56

Phreaphillw: ubu doesnt give me headaches :)16:56
LzrdKingphillw: anything in ubuntu is available in wubi16:57
phillwnor i, i have vista16:57
Phreaand I hate dualbooting, dont see the point [I dont work, or work with office stuff or so]16:57
LzrdKingPhrea:  install ubuntu and run windows in a vm16:57
PhreaLzrdKing: nah :D16:57
PhreaI dont do that on my other boxes neither16:57
phillwi use photoshop, gimp is okay, but it is not photoshop :-(16:57
Phreait would be fun to play around with, maybe :)16:57
PhreaI'll see what I'll do16:58
Phreait's just that the ATI settings thingy was scaringly limited16:58
phillwati is not terribly well supported, this is down to ati.16:59
Phreait was nothing like the 'ati drivers are coming of age' thread :\16:59
phillw10.04 is making massive strides with all the drivers16:59
PhreaI hope it'll work, I need my two mons on this box17:00
