virtuald101:09
virtualdwhy is this?01:09
RAOFvirtuald: Because I uploaded that package before 2ubuntu7.01:11
RAOFWhy don't I fix that now...01:12
virtualdok. what should i do if i have any crashes or other strange behavior?01:14
RAOFAdd a comment to the clutter-crash bug, I thin k.01:17
RAOFThat'd be bug #55021801:18
ubottuLaunchpad bug 550218 in xorg-server "xserver crashes when closing application using clutter" [High,Fix released] https://launchpad.net/bugs/55021801:18
RAOFBecause that's the bug that the glxfixes packages should fix.01:18

Sarvattwoohoo nvidia 195.36.24 with xserver 1.8 support19:39
BUGabundoyay?19:43
bjsniderit also supports fermi/tesla19:48
Sarvattputting it on xorg-edgers and x-updates now19:55
BUGabundoneed crazy testers?19:57
Sarvatti am completely failing to see the benefit of having fglrx/nvidia and such able to be installed at the same time when it doesn't actually work and we lost the ability to install things from the manufacturers websites for it..  not to mention jockey removes the packages when you dectivate anyway! bug #569871 has got to be the 100th bug i've replied to in that situation21:30
ubottuLaunchpad bug 569871 in fglrx-installer "Fglrx does not setup the ATI driver files properly." [Undecided,New] https://launchpad.net/bugs/56987121:30
bjsniderSarvatt, the nvidia-installer doesn't work particularly well, unless you think overwriting system files is a good idea21:31
bjsnideryou can't really have one universal installer. it has to be distro-specific21:32
Sarvattthat doesn't stop people from using it and filing bugs because its guaranteed broken instead of possibly working before21:32
bjsniderwell, nvidia tells them not to use it, and ubuntu does, and if they use it anyway so be it. it's their problem21:33
BUGabundoSarvatt: so an user can have two GPUs? from ati and nvidia at the same time21:33
Sarvattnvidia tells them not to use it? since when21:33
Sarvattwe have aaronp telling people to use it in a bunch of launchpad bugs21:34
bjsnider"Whenever possible, it is recommended that you use your Linux distribution's NVIDIA Linux graphics driver packages. This will ensure better integration with the distribution's native package management system and reduce the likelihood of problems after system updates, etc.."21:34
SarvattBUGabundo: they can't have that with proprietary drivers now, having fglrx + nvidia installed at the same time doesn't work but we allow it and peoples systems are all kinds of screwed up because of it21:35
bjsnideryou should be able to use jockey to switch between fglrx and nvidia21:36
Sarvattexcept  it uninstalls it when  you deactivate one21:36
Sarvattso its just people who install outside of jockey who are getting things screwed up21:36
bjsniderthey shouldn't be doing that21:36
Sarvattif you mean they shouldn't be installing from outside of the package manager I agree, but making it so things are broken if you install with a package manager doesn't make sense21:40
bjsniderok, maybe i don't understand what you're saying here. jockey is broken?21:40
BUGabundono21:40
BUGabundojust makes it impossible to have both21:41
bjsnideri still don't get it21:41
Sarvattjockey is the only way to use proprietary drivers, apt, synaptic, etc all dont work right21:41
Sarvattworse installing with apt ends up allowing combinations that will be broken but jockey doesn't just because it uninstalls when you deactivate one anyway21:42
Sarvattand people are shooting themselves in the foot using apt-get (if they are in recovery for instance because jockey requires X even with jockey-text)21:44
BUGabundoeheh21:44
bjsniderthey're ok with apt-getting a restricted driver as long as they update the xorg.conf right?21:44
Sarvattno because the alternatives are only set up right if they use jockey21:45
bjsnidermy understanding is that apt-getting nvidia-current updates the glx alternatives21:45
bjsnideri think you're wrong about that21:46
bjsnideralberto told me that installing nvidia-current updates the alternatives21:46
Sarvatti'll test it out in a bit when the wife gets off that laptop, it didn't when I did it last and if it does now then \o/21:49
bjsniderwhen did you try it last time?21:50
Sarvatthmm looking at the postinst's it does, woohoo! so the problem is still that nvidia and fglrx is broken if installed at the same time and fglrx is the desired one since the default level for nvidia is higher than fglrx21:50
bjsnideryeah but why would someone want or need both installed at once? they're mutually exclusive21:51
Sarvattif someone switched to an ati card from nvidia for instance, i agree they shouldn't be allowed at the same time and thats what I was getting at :)21:53
bjsniderSarvatt, jockey doesn't let them exist at the same time right?22:08
