R3cur51v3Wil Xubuntu 10.04 feature an updated theme?02:44
_Techie_R3cur51v3, i would think so02:50
_Techie_https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Brand02:50
_Techie_R3cur51v3, feel free to check for yourself, lucid is due to be released within 24 hours02:53
zubuntzWouldn't RC have updated themes?02:53
_Techie_zubuntz, yes, being the release candidate it would most likely have the updated themes that wil be used in the final release02:54
Presario2500hi03:08
Presario2500why does my .doc file look different in various word processors?  I'm editing a document in Microsoft Word 2007 on one PC, and AbiWord on another PC03:08
zubuntzPresario2500, Abiword isn't very good in my experience.  Have you tried OO?03:11
Myrttibecause .doc is a proprietary format that other editors can try to display the best they can03:12
Presario2500what format should I use instead of DOC that will look the same on all PCs?03:12
Presario2500RTF?03:12
zubuntzRTF won't have any of the formatting you might need.  ODF is better, methinks.03:13
zubuntzI think Office 2007 works with ODF files too.03:13
Presario2500ODF is nice, but the people that work with me don't use OpenOffice03:14
zubuntzPresario2500, I'm almost positive that there is a plugin for 2007 that allows them to view ODF files.03:17
zubuntzhttp://www.microsoft.com/Presspass/press/2008/may08/05-21ExpandedFormatsPR.mspx03:18
Presario2500I'm sure there is, but I need something that is going to work on the most computer illiterate peoples' computers03:18
zubuntzJust set their computers to use the ODF format by default.03:18
zubuntzBut I hear you. :)03:18
zubuntzAs a last resort, you could try using Microsoft Office with Wine.03:19

mikubuntu*does anyone know where the settings are?06:28

robertzaccourmore than likely you'll get it installed before finding an answer lol but i may be wrong06:30
mikubuntuthat's great, took me hours and hours to upgrade thru the manager with my slow att connection06:30
robertzaccourbut thats on my dual core, which i'm trading tomorrow for a mini 9 and $200 :)06:30
robertzaccourouch that sucks06:30
mikubuntuyes, it did06:31
mikubuntubut everythings fine now, except the pesky screenlock issue06:31
mikubuntuhttps://help.ubuntu.com/7.04/keeping-safe/C/lock-screen.html  but it doesn't say anything about disabling the feature06:33

charlie-tcaBecause that is obsolete now. The final image will be released shortly.18:29
flansusecharlie-tca, that quickly?18:29
flansuseI thought Xubuntu usually lagged a month behind the Ubuntu release?18:30
Sysino?18:30
charlie-tcaNo, it doesn't. It normally releases at the same time18:30
flansuseWell hot dog.18:30
flansuse<--- Someone's slow in the brain.18:30
flansuseXubuntu makes for a fine netbook OS.18:31
flansuseDoes the Alternate installer require a special initrd in order to install from a USB stick?18:34
Sysii just used unetbootin and it worked18:35
Sysidarn, my broadband started working badly18:35
flansuseSysi, for the desktop CD or alternate CD?18:36
Sysiflansuse: both18:36
flansuseSysi, alright, cool. I remember on Jaunty and Karmic it gave me an error about "No CD drive found!"18:36
flansuseSysi, and I had to grab a special initrd and throw it on the stick, or something. I don't remember exactly.18:37
Sysii did something like that with debian18:37
flansuseSysi, yeah, and the alternate CD uses the text installer as well. No problems with the desktop CD. The thing is, I want to use full disk encryption during installation, which the desktop CD cannot do.18:38
flansuseAnd there's no CD drive on a netbook.18:39
flansuseSysi, when you used UNetbootin, did you point it to the .iso or use one of the available presets/downloads from within UNetbootin's list?18:42
flansuseSysi, I see "Xubuntu 10.04_HdMedia" in the list.18:43
Sysii used already downloaded iso18:47
Rytiswhy there is rat in xubuntu logo? :o18:48
flansuseSysi, alright, thank you.18:48
flansuseRytis, from Xfce's logo?18:48
charlie-tcaRytis: it is a mouse, because that is the xfce mascot18:48
Rytisoh.. that makes sense then18:49
flansuseI hope in Xfce 4.8 they reintroduce a menu editor, like how GNOME has alacarte.18:49
charlie-tcathere is supposed to be one, but I don't know  how much like gnome it will be18:50
flansusecharlie-tca, as long as it's practical and uses a friendly GUI. Modifying .xml files isn't exactly appealing to desktop users.18:51
charlie-tcaIt isn't using xml anymore. It is now set up per freedesktop.org specs18:52
flansusecharlie-tca, 4.6.1?18:53

charlie-tcaheh18:54
flansuseI can't wait for the 2.6.x kernel series to be developed!18:54
charlie-tcayou will catch up18:54
flansuseThank god there are menu icons in Xfce, unlike in GNOME 2.30. (Not only that, but the option to reenable them from the Preferences has also been removed. Only possible through gconf-tool2 now...)18:59
charlie-tcaheh, Ubuntu is for the beginners. Don't want to confuse them with usefulness18:59
charlie-tcawell, that is not what I wanted to say.19:00
flansuseLOL19:01
charlie-tcaI think they are trying to keep from confusing people with icons that can change19:01
flansuseIt's more specifically a GNOME issue. One comment said "Someday with GNOME you will only be able to change the wallpaper using gconf."19:01
flansuseThat made me burst out in laughter because I wouldn't be surprised if it does eventually happen.19:02
flansusecharlie-tca, but it's random. Some menus are filled with icons, which look very nice and are usual for the visually impaired. Whereas other menus and context menus have NO icons which look extremely bland, and can be confusing for disabled users.19:03
flansuse*useful19:03

kangarooogrub-pc is asking me what i want and i dont know. install the package maintainers version or keep the local version currently installed?22:40
